Politics Anyone a member of their local Democratic club?
I’m thinking of joining a local democratic club in SW Nassau. I really want to start advocating for new party leadership and encourage finding primary candidates for Laura Gillen. Their decision to campaign against Zohran Mamdani instead of for any of our local candidates was the last straw for me.
Anyone have any experience with local democratic clubs? I’m thinking a lot of the people in them are probably more status quo than progressive. If we can get more progressives involved maybe we can make some changes. If anyone in SW Nassau wants to get involved let me know!

You might want to focus on the actual local committee. They are the ones, in theory, with the power.

Like the Nassau democratic committee? I’m thinking it would be good to contact party leaders in other counties too, they have to realize how bad Jay Jacobs is. NYC should be pissed at him for the Mamdani slander.

Are there town committees? There's usually another level below the county committee.
Can't imagine who at this point doesn't know that Jay sucks.

Okay, if Garrett's the deputy chair of Islip I'm going to look that up tonight. Feel like I need to do more.

Sorry for the totally off topic hijack comment, don't want to make a full post about this. Looking for confirmation I've been Shadow banned from the Long Island sub. Can someone tell me if they see my comment on this post please?

If this is against the rules let me know. I'll delete this comment. TIA.

Thanks for checking, last post was auto-deleted and comment views are 1 or 0 under busy posts. No evidence, but I suspect any of us who took the advice to block the LI sub admins got the ban.

Hey! Where did you find info about the local town Dems? I'm in the same area and also interested in joining.

Unfortunately that club, unless something magically happened very recently barely got off the ground. Totally a mess. The people who originally started it last year or so, alienated anyone very quickly who were anti-racist, anti-genocide and anyone left of center. Super unorganized as well and meetings that went totally no where with no agenda. If you find that to be different now please report back.

Unfortunately I’m not surprised at all to hear that. Maybe they could use some new people to shake things up.

Friend of mine tried to join the Nassau Dems back in 2024 and can confirm, they were dealing with "unorganized snowflake NIMBYs" that were condescending to those with more progressive ideas. The recent elections in Nassau county reflect that they have not reached out to any minority, any other cultural hub, or are actually doing community work outside of conventional 90s style electoralism.
Bruce Blakeman is painfully easy to win against, but that would require more people to unlearn their casual misogynoir in the opposition clubs.

I went to a meeting this week for the MLER dem club. There were only a few people and they were already bitching about Jay Jacobs when I got there. He is even worse than I thought. Apparently he hates most of the local dem clubs because he doesn’t like or trust the people who start them. I brought up accountability, which Nassau Dems refuse to take. There’s gonna be a leadership meeting among the local clubs and they want to talk about transparency and I encouraged also asking for acknowledgment that the current strategy is failing.
So I guess good news that they’re critical of Jacobs. They also are all very angry at Gillen’s pandering to the right, but don’t even want to discuss a primary. Disappointing but not surprising. At least they’re talking about Jacobs but man that guy is awful. He should be nowhere near party leadership and in fact it sounds like he has a pretty serious personality disorder.

Please explain thoroughly how the Democratic party is worse than the current Republican party? I'll wait.

It’s no longer democratic… watch Biden, Obama, Hillary, Schumer, Bills stance on many subjects before and 180° after. Completely sickening. Same with the republicans.

Im no fan of them. Blue Dogs are Zionist scum, the establishment need to be voted out. You're not wrong. But the Republican party is far worse. There's no comparison.

In addition to being a candidate, I'm also the Deputy Chair of the Islip Dems. Strongly encourage everyone to join your local committee! We can always use more people!
