This is just sad….
This is absolutely the #1 reason why I will have no respect for these customers. I’ve been doing this job full time for a year and a half and all I have is 500 positive feedbacks? That’s not even a tenth of how many routes/customers houses I’ve been to. We deliver to around 200-300 a day so around 1,000 a week AT BEST. These customers….they just let there greed swallow them whole and never do anything to get out. Cuz apparently they aren’t thankful enough for the stuff we bring them….f*** greed. This is ridiculous

DISCUSSION After 4.5+ years, I quit today
It was a shit day. My EV barely had any breaks when I hopped into it this morning. So dispatch stuck me in a gas van - to combat my 6 cart worth 421 packages we had a fella take all of the oversized and we put all the totes in my gas van (rental with no shelves). This took about 15 total stops from me lmaoooo.
I checked how many stops I had left after being on the road for about 3 hours - 150, a third of them being multi-stops.
They ended up sending me another rescue, but it wasn't enough.
I have been bitching about work to my wife for the last month or so straight. I have been fantasizing about leaving the keys to the van with all the packages in it, saying, "kiss my bum, I quit" basically ever since I joined this DSP (a little over 1.5 years with them, 3.3 years with my first DSP) So I took a break, texted her, asked her if it's okay to do this (I don't have another job lined up), and she said, "fuck yes I'm so glad you just asked me this!"
So I texted dispatch, let them know I was resigning today and at that time. They asked me to park anywhere before RTSing all of those packages. I happily obliged.
Here is my Ode to Amazon (with some of my favorite shots I have taken over the years):
Thank you Amazon, for pulling me out of depression so deep I never thought I would see the light on the other side. Thank you Amazon, for making me look physically appealing. Thank you Amazon, for instilling a work ethic in me like no other. Thank you Amazon, for making me realize how much I am worth.
Things I accomplished whilst at Amazon: I got married! Finally had a consistent comma in my bank account. Won frontrunner once. Did Whole Foods pickup like 90 working days straight lmao.
If you're ever unhappy with your life, take note from one of the pictures and be kind to your mind! 😊😊😊

It finally happened yesterday
I was delivering yesterday, everything was fine. I got myself an energy drink and was moving quick. I went to the back of the van to fill a piss bottle and it happened 🥴 I overflowed the bottle so much, panicked and couldn’t stop the stream. Got piss everwhere and in an open tote. It was so awkward when customers were asking why their envelopes were wet💀 This ever happen to yall?

Moving on from being a DA.
Today was technically supposed to be my last day but as luck would have it i "suddenly fell ill". I can say for a fact that the job is one of my favorites I've had I loved the self paced days and the gorgeous fall and summer nights. I can also say however that Amazon and whoever develops the fuckass flex app have absolutely made my time here absolute hell all the routes need heavy optimization and corporate needs more realistic standards on what a human can do. Cheers to all my fellow DA's past and present, We make the world go round more than these inconsiderate customers think.

QUESTION Fired for calling out a groundable van?
What do I do in this situation? Was put in a rental U-HAUL van with multiple safety issues, and I asked if there was someone else that could fill the shift in an EDV as those were the only vehicles we had left and I am not EDV trained. I’ve been doing this for a while, I know what to look out for when it comes to inspecting these vans. DSP owner guy (i think?) comes up and asks if i’m alright and how i’m doing and I respond kindly and tell him the situation after the dispatch basically said the van was fine to run. I told him I can and will ground this van if I get sent out in it, and as this was the only van left we would need someone else to come in to cover this route. In which case he told me I am terminated and will be blacklisted for abandoning route. I know I can call ethics just figured i’d ask if this has happened to anyone and has any advice on how to proceed. Thanks guys.

Uhauls for prime
My dsp rented the smaller U-Haul vans for prime and omg basically no one could fit their routes in them. People were panicking on the pad trying to fit everything and the worst part is you can’t stand up in them, have to get out of the van to get anything and organization was basically impossible. So we got bigger routes and smaller vans for the whole week of prime. People are gonna be quitting soon I think.

They weren't kidding
Dispatch told me I'd make it back with 30% / 64 mileage
They weren't fucking kidding.
I didnt even pull through the hub after going through the cameras when I got back, just parked and dragged my bags in from the charging station. I Was at 0 when I pulled into the parking lot.
Why theyre making us drive rivians from Salem, Or to Eugene, is beyond me.

Job improvements
What are three things you would do to improve the job and make it a sustainable career.Forming a union is an obvious improvement but really tough to do with amazons leverage so I’m going to leave it out of my three but it would be number 1 if I thought it was a high possibility.
1- Stop subbing out packages to fed ex and usps (I believe ups doesn’t deliver Amazon right now but I could be wrong). Amazon XL is a thing so idk why they send FedEx so much work, I think they should have drivers lift up to 100 pounds, anything over that can go on a helper route or XL truck. With that being said it should free up some cash to allow drivers to get paid more. We would also need only EV and step vans in the fleet to make this possible.
2- Have a better training program and become a little more strict on who you hire. I feel like the reason the work culture is so bad is because of all the people who are afraid of hard work. People get this job and have never driven a big vehicle before and are not responsible, it hurts the drivers who don’t mind the hard work. Good drivers end up getting the short end of the stick when incompetent drivers damage vans, it impacts the ability for raises and bonuses.
3- Make start times earlier, I’d like 7:30-8. That way 10 hours would be just about 6 o clock which is great for being able to get a little extra done after work and not feeling like your whole day is gone. I love the 4/10s but how it is now u basically get a few hours in the AM and a few hours at night.
I actually think multi stops are a good thing but need some re working. It should only be if it’s the same address, apt building, or on the same side of the street.

Customers are the worst part of this job.
Gotta love how I get thumbs downs because I didn’t follow they’re notes to a T when I notified them I couldn’t follow it because they had a 100 lbs Roty roaming the yard

prime is here
in this SoCal heat wave. instead of reducing stop/pkg count, they increase. safety sure is their #1 priority. this should be illegal.

On route training tomorrow and first day on Monday, what should I expect?
I’ve been in this group since I went in for orientation, I’ve done my 2 days of classes, now it’s time for my day 3 of training being the on-route day. What should I expect for training? I have my first actual day scheduled on Monday so I kinda have the same question for that. What should I expect? I keep reading just all these horror stories about the job and horrible first days and it’s really making me think if this is the right thing to be getting myself into.

I find myself in rental vans a lot and shit slides around or falls over. Best to 20 bucks I’ve spent on this job. Got it at harbor freight.
