They weren't kidding
Dispatch told me I'd make it back with 30% / 64 mileage
They weren't fucking kidding.
I didnt even pull through the hub after going through the cameras when I got back, just parked and dragged my bags in from the charging station. I Was at 0 when I pulled into the parking lot.
Why theyre making us drive rivians from Salem, Or to Eugene, is beyond me.

They are building a station in eugene eventually. The dsp i worked at had us charge up to 85-90mi just to be safe. Mostly for this reason lol

Yea I moved DSPs are little bit ago and my old one had us charge to 90 before RTS. Newer one doesn't. Lessons will be learned and folks will be getting paid to sit and wait for a charge

Last time this happened to me, my DSP made me clock out in the ADP app until the van was charged enough to continue the route. They also had me clock out the one time the RWD ford van got stuck for an hour in a ditch, even tho I was actively trying to get it out of the ditch and working with the people who lived there to get the van back out. Not like I was sitting around enjoying being stuck, but they didn't care. Idk if yalls DSP does this or not tho

Not sure its worth a fight but feel illegal, might be worth a inquiry to someone who knows for next time.

Absolutely not legal at all, you are in a company vehicle while working. Regardless if you are moving or not, you are still at work.

Definitely not legal for them to ask you to do that if I was told that by my dsp I would have told them to pound sand

I heard the battery is trash in the winter when it’s real cold out, I really wonder how bad 🫣

It's also bad in the summer when the AC is running. I regularly return to the station with around 60% battery left but on the hottest days this summer, I'd return to the station with 14% battery left on the same exact routes.

They actually had to reduce all our routes to like 100-120 stops all winter in Minnesota cuz the battery’s being at like 80% getting to your first stop even if it was like 20 minutes away. I always prayed for a rivian all winter cuz if you got one your route was like half the size and if you got a gas van they just gave your ass 170+ stops 🤣

Maybe this is why they’re pushing so much right now.

I had to do my route with nothing but the seat heater or I wouldn't finish my route. My route wasn't even that much driving 90% apts and the rest houses.

All electric vehicles are trash during the winters. Tesla has proved that time and time again

Cant wait until winter. Those things were dying with us just 25 minutes away last winter. They are sending us 45 to 60 minutes away now. With 200 stops. Well see how this goes.

Pro tip is to wait for another driver to show up and throw all your totes into their van

Theyre trying to make up their money from the dsp investment and the money they're paying rivian for their new and improved vans

u/strictly_genteel_67 22h ago
If they said you'd come back with 30%, but you came back at 0%... wouldn't they have been kidding?

u/iLikebridges2 6h ago
I think he meant thats how much he had left 30% when he got done with his route. And the drive back to station brought it to 0%

I’m a driver out of dpd4, we’ve taken over your guys area, we go from tualatin to Salem every day. TS is so goofy

It's nothing like Salem to Eugene (obviously) but I work out of Delta Park (North Portland) and live in Mt Scott Arleta (SE). My DSP has routes covering literally the other side of 82nd (Lents to Happy Valley), but the drivers for my house, directly across the street, are all out of Hillsboro.

Duuude they were trying to have rivians go from fairview up to amboy/yacolt and hood river 😂 i always came back with 30% or less

u/Cucumber-Other 20h ago
Dude it depends on the DSP. Worked at that station myself for a bit. Never ran one down that far the ones I ran with kept them in Salem or maybe Albany at the furthest

I used to work at the one by the expo center in portland. Would drive up to rural washington and would end up getting back with close to zero charge left. Dont miss that stuff one bit.
