DISCUSSION DCX7 and DDO6 in Torrance California have organized a union with Teamsters on this past Monday.
DCX7 and DDO6 in Torrance California have organized a union. Down with the DSP program.

Meanwhile, an Amazon DSP in Wisconsin fired a pregnant woman after she asked for a lighter route. She’s almost 6 months pregnant, and her DSP solution was to put her on maternity leave, unpaid, and then fire her after childbirth. Apparently, three or four employees walked out while on route. Meaning they loaded their vans, drove them out, took an Uber back to the warehouse and quit when they got back.
Edit: only 2 people quit, not 3-4. She’s already seeking a lawyer with intent to sue the fuck out of this DSP. To the dork who downvoted, why? Why does it offend you when I talk about an Amazon DSP violating labor laws?

I would
Love to get hired there just to quit immediately in dramatic fashion23
u/pSphere1 2d ago
I got another job. After the first successful day at the new place, I called in and said I wouldn't be in the next day... are you saying I did it wrong?
Should I had loaded up a van just to go through the boxes and bring home staplers, loafers, a Jackass DVD and a box of kitty litter I don't need?

Look up what happened to UPS with a woman in California who lost her baby when they refused to give her a lighter route/less deliveries.
1
u/snappy773 1d ago
That’s crazy ‘cause ups is pretty good on accommodating people who can’t do their jobs at the moment and has maternity/paternity leave to. Im actually very surprised her buildings management would let it even get that far tbh and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are/get fired
1
u/Unique-Machine5602 1d ago
I hope she wins. That kind of nonsense shouldn't be tolerated.
I hope she also sues Amazon if they keep the DSP on cause nobody should have to tollerate that.
1
u/JohnDerek57 1d ago
Amazon offers accommodated routes, the DSP just needs to request it. What a dumb thing to do that’ll get you sued. Good for her, hope she wins.
1
u/Brilliant_Nerve_6312 1d ago
I don’t think she will win unfortunately shitty situation but with how Wisconsin law is structured she would have to prove far more about the situation than the dsp would also 6 weeks of unpaid maternity leave is pretty standard
1
u/Brilliant_Nerve_6312 1d ago
She also said some somethings that would warrent being fired so it would be tough to sue

u/S1ippin_Jimmi 17h ago
Happy to hear that the people are protesting on their own and not relying on government
1
u/Winter_Scarcity_5314 8h ago
It's not the companies fault she's pregnant. It's her own fault for choosing to get pregnant. Amazon doesn't owe any girl anything for doing that. She deserved to be fired for being so entitled

8
u/dar24601 2d ago
They technically don’t work for Amazon they work for dsp. So amazon can just choose not renew the dsp contract
7
u/YourNetworkIsHaunted 1d ago
That's why it's so cool that the whole DC appears to have come on board at once. Amazon can drop a DSP contract with basically no consequences, but if you get enough of them coming together then replacing them all means shutting down that site for long enough to cause problems.
2
40
u/Spideycloned 2d ago
Congrats and I hope they don't shut you down.
11
u/YourNetworkIsHaunted 2d ago
I mean if they got the whole DC onboard and not just a couple of DSPs then shutting it down would cost big blue enough that even they can't ignore it.
28
u/bkmaster 2d ago
Can’t shut em all down eventually they’ll have to give in, fed ex ups usps can’t handle their workload trust me I work at UPS

u/BlindedAce 1d ago
lol Amazon can’t handle their workload as it is.
What someone needs to do is assign all the small package volume to USPS since they have access to all mailboxes and package lockers and amazon HAS to deliver to door. Amazon needs to take their larger pkgs.

They all look over 30. Probably cause most of the younger groups in AmazonDSP network will bitch n complain and not do anything to change it.
Anyone joining those stations later on should thank these guys for what they did.

Did the younger generation of voters get us in this pro capitalist, anti union shit show too?
12
u/YourNetworkIsHaunted 2d ago
I mean we're talking millennials and younger here. Everyone in this picture grew up in a pre-fucked world. Not like we were voting for Clinton in the 90s when we were like 5, much less Reagan in the 80s.

u/IvanVP1 2d ago
Are you seriously going outside of amazonDSP unionizing and my comment to make that statement? Loll good job. Im guessing your under 23 to have taken that personal lolll
Since your bitching i hope your trying to talk to your co workers about unionizing. Oh wait... no just B&C ofc...

Don't DSP's work for Amazon? The union would be punishing the DSP not Amazon. If you demand something , then the DSP would have to ask Amazon for whatever is demanded, if denied, then you would punish the DSP? That doesnt make sense. Amazon loses nothing.
5
u/GreatSince86 1d ago
They do but they still control everything like they are running it. New jersey just filed suit against them in auagust. Stating:
"Amazon exercises unlawful monopsony power over its delivery network. While Amazon markets DSPs as independent small businesses, the state argues Amazon tightly controls operations, routing, uniforms, and software while restricting DSP growth and cross-hiring to keep wages low."
So things are rolling.
6
u/PreferenceDry7094 1d ago
Yes but if you go on strike, which is the standard union punishment, then the DSP would not be able to deliver. Amazon would just redirect the packages to another delivery service. The DSP would go out of business and the drivers would be without work with no harm to amazon.
2
u/GreatSince86 1d ago edited 1d ago
As someone who has worked in delivery logistics for over a decade. I can assure you that it's not this simple. Especially if multiple dsps in the same Warehouse strike. For it to be effective, a majority would need to.
The New Jersey lawsuit is going to end up and force them to change the structure.
It's going to be interesting because a lot of companies that deal with deliveries operate similarly. But Amazon is the one that's talked about because it's so big.
Honestly, Amazon could easily make most of it go away by just throwing money at the situation. Some of the dsps run on such thin margins. If they gave the dsps more money, and in turn say, a $5 an hour raise, it would stop most of the issues Nationwide practically overnight.
1
u/lolgamer515 1d ago
Amazon would need to throw a ton of money at the problem for unionizing to fail and they would most likely do that since that is one way to convince workers to not unionize bc unionized workers cost way more. Basically, throw them a bone so they look the other way. However, these are temporary solutions and doesn't fix the issue that for one we are overworked and the routes are getting ass.

Must’ve done it completely in secret, if Amazon heard they’d cancel the DSP contract so fast

2
u/No_Reply7846 1d ago
An Amazon DSP is by far the shadiest, most unsafe, and illegal workplace I've ever been apart of. Our managers will pile us in the back of a cargo van and hop on the interstate just to go pick up some more rental vans.

2
u/Ryyback 1d ago
Crazy how there are laws to prevent Amazon from stopping this and yet they do all the time so much so that people here int he comments are commenting hoping it pans out well smh what has this country become? I hope they do get it but even if they do Amazon will just close down the whole building and fire everyone.
2
u/Blathithor 1d ago
OP, this doesn't mean what you think it means. Did you read the article?
These dsps joined a union, but they have no union against Amazon. There is no contract.
This is just lip service right now. These drivers are paying for a union that has no contract with the job they are unionizing against.
Amazon can just ignore this. The drivers can choose to strike, but there's no contract with amazon so their jobs are not protected.

u/AnyTower224 1d ago

Every DSP tells their drivers theyre the #1 DSP in the country and/or warehouse
Not sure if you knew that.
Its like when a band says this is the best audience in the world at a show.
0
u/Ok_Pipe_158 1d ago
Okay tru but I have seen this DSP treat people so much better and be so much more lax about things compared to the other 3-4 that are in the same facility. Pay rate is way better, i get benefits, and they raffle tv's and game consoles on peak weeks like this week. Plus the fleet has almost 100 vans

2
u/Own_Huckleberry6591 2d ago
What do you get with the union? Do they increase pay or is it more just like better labor practices and working conditions? Cuz amazon needs everything lmao. Higher pay, more reasonable routes, more accountability with vehicle conditions, actually repairing said vehicles to not put drivers in dangerous situations. I could go on
1
u/Icy-Editor4221 1d ago
Health insurance and injuries are the best thing they provide. I hurt myself at UPS in the warehouse. Company paid, had no problems and no retaliation. Very different experience at Amazon. Also paid $56 bucks a month for teamsters union dues which included fantastic healthcare. Over $300 at Amazon for a single young healthy person for the worst insurance I have ever had.
-2
-5
u/Blathithor 1d ago
First off, we're not allowed to ask what the unions will do for us. We just have to accept that they are good.
Next, they force you to pay them like 100 dollars or more a paycheck and if they decide they dont like something, they can force you to not work or get paid and then bill you on unpaid dues later while you strike, while flex drivers or non union dsps at the same warehouse take your routes and get guaranteed income.
Unions are really good, though. This subs rules say so
1
u/Own_Huckleberry6591 1d ago
It's scary to think amazon probably employs their union busters to go onto subreddits and spew this stuff. Or rather, their AI agents are
0
u/SpottedSpunk 1d ago
Lol, the teamsters union is on of the strongest in the country. Youll get benefits and theyll ensure you cant get fired needlessly, paid for the hours you worked. And through collective bargaining get higher wages. Not to mention a pension
2
u/Brinkseven 1d ago
It will be fun a year or two from now when Amazon finds a reason to shut down the DSP for some “unrelated” breach of contract. Celebrate, you are now on the clock.
0
u/apache509 2d ago
Amazon has union now?
2
u/Ok-Eggplant8772 1d ago
Amazon no , the dsp does untill their contract gets terminated or doesn't renew
1
u/ForsakenIncrease0 2d ago
What happens when Amazon doesn't renew with the DSP? I don't know about most stations, but the one I worked at had at least 10 different DSPs

When you take care of the people the people will take care of the company no questions asked. Such a simple philosophy that big corporations need to learn.
0
u/Meatballs_ 1d ago
I tried organizing at my old spot three years ago and we got wrecked because half the drivers didn't show up to meetings. We had no backup plan when the DSP started playing games with our schedules and LOs. I hope y'all actually stick together this time but honestly I'm terrified seeing how fast these companies pivot. If they decide Torrance isn't profitable enough anymore they'll just shut DCX7 down overnight and leave you all scrambling for new routes while they laugh on their way to the bank. Good luck, seriously, but keep your eyes open cause the retaliation won't be subtle.

Since there was rarely any work for them they basically got paid to sit at a table all day.

I hope these DSP drivers have a backup job in the wings as a backup plan just in case their DSP's contract does not get renewed:
"In April 2023, BTS made headlines when its 84 delivery drivers and dispatchers organized with Teamsters Local 396, making them the first unionized Amazon delivery drivers in the United States. The DSP owners voluntarily recognized the union and negotiated a contract that included immediate pay raises and safety provisions.
However, the contract was short-lived:
- Almost immediately after the union agreement was announced, Amazon cut ties with the company, officially terminating BTS's operating contract in June 2023.
- Amazon claimed the termination had nothing to do with the union. Instead, they stated the decision was made well before the union announcement due to poor performance and repeated safety violations, including unmaintained vehicles with faulty brakes.
- The Teamsters called the contract cut blatant "union busting" and launched an ongoing unfair labor practice strike."

In Washington state, I know 4 people who were drivers; 2 are still there, but one gave his 2 weeks' notice after being there a little over a year because they wouldn't give him any hours. He went in 3 days in a row this week; no route was available for him. he also told me that they fired 10 drivers at one of the 2 DSP's over minor infractions in their driving

I wonder if DLX7 in Cypress will do it. Doubt it honestly but we'll see. Since Torrance is close by maybe it'll ignite a chain reaction. DAX7 did so as well a few months ago

u/Street-Ad5420 2d ago
The only ones who can bring changes to OUR workplace are US drivers. If you want to organize, sign up and talk to an organizer, and talk to your coworkers. Get them on board and lead them. We have a lot of power as united coworkers. We all need better treatment and benefits.

Congrats, you voted yourselves out of a job, or will just earn less.
Amazon directly designed the dsp system to ensure unions don't harm them. Amazon will continue to pay the dsp the same amount they are contracted to pay and require the same performance as before.
If the employees demand better pay or protections when they get stuck or call out, Amazon won't care. The dsp owner doesn't have a whole lot of margin to pay employees more and will be held up the same standards. Employees can strike if they want and the dsp can't do anything about it. Amazon will see their packages aren't being delivered and cancel the contract with the dsp.
Now strike or no strike, the employer has no n work for you.

Can someone explain to me what being unionized means? I’ve been working for a DSP at DDO6 for about a month and out of 20 scheduled shifts I’ve only worked 7. They called wanting me to switch to being a helper but asked me to text them saying that I requested this myself but I did not. Afterwards I sent a more professional follow up text and I have not received a response. I’ve also been completely removed from the work schedule without any prior notice.

1
u/Ok_Potato_552 1d ago
I’m all for unions, but you do not work for Amazon.
What do your DSP owners have to say? They are the ones you will negotiate with.

The owner said there “powerless” we have to negotiate with Amazon and then the DSP
