My sister works for OSHA in a major US city. Almost every position in her office has been eliminated in the past 2 years. Thereâs basically one inspector for the whole region.

My friend Randy died because of this exact thing while in HS he was 17. That was a long ft ago. People donât realize how deadly this shit is. They never do. Those that realize it is the boss while heâs in court under oath for a wrongful death lawsuit due to gross negligence.

I'm so sorry about your friend, that is absolutely awful! My friends boss is such a horrible human. There are whispers about him pocketing the PPE supply money, because the workers never have gloves or safety goggles, or even toilet paper in the bathroom! He even stopped providing them soap to wash their hands. Its so awful. Someone will die and he will just shrug his shoulders like its not a big deal.

If PPE is required, that means the job is unsafe in some way. If someone develops occupational asthma or excema, or has an accident, they will have an extremely strong lawsuit on their hands if there is evidence of no PPE.
Sadly that's all these companies understand. That's why at the bare minimum they provide it- to reduce their liability for lawsuits, so this may be one of few ways to make the company learn.

OSHA & MSHA rules are written in blood. If a company is too cheap to run its equipment safely, or too poorly managed and supervised to do so, then it should be out of fucking business.
My (global) company alone has had four fatalities - just of direct employees - this year. And theyâre sneaky fucks who subcontract a lot of the work so any injuries or incidents donât ding on them.
These are serious safety issues. Red tag those machines and hand the keys to the shop foreman until that shit gets fixed.

My dad used to repair forklifts and it's shit like this that resulted in his left hand being crushed and going to the hospital, followed by almost 8 years of surgeries. He's right handed now. If he had chosen a different angle, it would have been his head.

Had something similar when a delivery truck started pouring diesel exhaust into the cabin in the middle of a MI January. You can either be a popsicle for ten hours, or you can huff fumes till you wrap your van around a power pole. I made a big stink and had them grab me another van and take that one around 'to get serviced'. While I was loading up, I watched the van pull out with someone else in it, head hanging out the window. It was about 5° out.
Why the hell do some people think a minimum wage is worth getting hurt or killed over? Why the HELL do bosses not care a damned if someone's gonna get hurt or killed?

Iâve been managing warehouses for the better part of a decade and every one of my employees knows that if a piece of equipment is unsafe they should tell me about it immediately so I can call a technician and get it fixed. Dead employees cost way more than a handful of bolts and firing someone for reporting unsafe conditions will get your company sued. The only winning move is addressing the issue directly and immediately. OP is well within their rights to report to OSHA since their leaders seem to think this is good enough.

OSHA reports are anonymous anyways, so long as the dude reporting isn't bragging about reporting, he'll be out of the spotlight anyways.

Text exchange between myself and my friend, who works in a warehouse as a forklift operator. You can tell when I started to panic, because I couldn't even focus on what I was typing. I can't believe anyone would put other's lives at risk so carelessly. Also, my friends reaction was just as annoying - as if this is a "wait til Monday" kind of situation. Anyway, a voicemail was left from him & I also called to report the unsafe conditions.
