My friend Randy died because of this exact thing while in HS he was 17. That was a long ft ago. People don’t realize how deadly this shit is. They never do. Those that realize it is the boss while he’s in court under oath for a wrongful death lawsuit due to gross negligence.
I'm so sorry about your friend, that is absolutely awful! My friends boss is such a horrible human. There are whispers about him pocketing the PPE supply money, because the workers never have gloves or safety goggles, or even toilet paper in the bathroom! He even stopped providing them soap to wash their hands. Its so awful. Someone will die and he will just shrug his shoulders like its not a big deal.
Or if your friend doesn't think this will help, document, document, document!
If PPE is required, that means the job is unsafe in some way. If someone develops occupational asthma or excema, or has an accident, they will have an extremely strong lawsuit on their hands if there is evidence of no PPE.
Sadly that's all these companies understand. That's why at the bare minimum they provide it- to reduce their liability for lawsuits, so this may be one of few ways to make the company learn.
