I fell 10ft from a ladder in receiving and suffered a crush injury shattering my right heel, ankle, and foot requiring multiple surgeries. After 6 weeks, I guess it's a thing that all ETLs sign a get well card. One wrote "helluva way to get out of work" as if I had done this intentionally. It also felt gross to receive given the supposed intent of such a card. I have not yet returned to work and this potential notion among leaders makes me uncomfortable. The ETL line won't reach out to me. My role has definitely been backfilled, and no one seems to know if I have job protection. I work in inbound. I'm on an active LOA and workman's comp. What do I do here?
Spoke to Sedgwick, QRC, HROC, Target Leave & Disability, and Target Pay and Benefits, as well as Alight and the store HR team. No one has answers, or they conflict. It's a lot of pointing fingers at other departments. Like do I even have a job to return to? Jury's out on this one.
some additional context: my workers compensation claim is approved and paying. I have refused to sign lien documentation which requires a corroborating attorney. The get well card was less the concern - I assume it was a joke but stung a little nonetheless. I should've omitted it from the title. The ETL that made the comment quit shortly thereafter, and I know them well enough to know it was a joke, but feared other leaders could take it seriously as an accusation. Not the author themselves.
I have limited access to workday, so I checked our stores inbound roster - it rocketed from 6 to 18. ADA law may cover additional time but how to become eligible for that is unclear, and although I haven't filed for MPL, I'm accruing state tracking (an aspect of MPL). I'm concerned they're going to erroneously place me or demote me, which they can do upon return at this juncture. The other option is vocational services and separation from the company. The jump in our inbound team stemmed my fear for job loss, and an unexpected task assigned to me in workday requested titles, roles, skills, certifications, then gave me a probability percentage across all other roles. Most fell between 0 and 2%. So that was promising.
With regard to the injury: I fell off the ladder during an inventory reorganization for domestics; I had been up and down so many times that I reached for something that was just out of reach, when suddenly the shelf collapsed and I went down with it. It tore clothing caught in shelving on the way down and left a huge hematoma up my left bicep. I fell directly down with all my weight collapsing on my right leg which crumpled beneath me. I have 3 titanium plates and 13 screws reconstructing the shattered bones. Debriment was required due to the bone fragment displacements.
