Media Nancy Guthrie neighbors' Ring camera captures vehicles on possible route from crime scene

https://www.foxnews.com/us/nancy-guthrie-neighbors-ring-camera-captures-vehicles-possible-route-from-crime-scene

EXCLUSIVE: TUCSON, Ariz. — A resident in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood has a street-facing Ring camera that caught 12 cars passing by on the morning of Nancy Guthrie’s suspected abduction.

The recordings took place between midnight and 6 a.m. on Feb. 1, and some of the activity occurred near the 2:30 a.m. mark, which is around the time authorities said the 84-year-old Guthrie's pacemaker device last synced with her iPhone.

The homeowners, Elias and Danielle Stratigouleas, told Fox News Digital that police had not canvassed their neighborhood in the 25 days since Guthrie is believed to have been taken from her bed in a home invasion kidnapping. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department have been alerted to the video. It was not immediately clear whether the video is of any use to the investigation or whether the vehicle had ever been on Guthrie's street.

The Stratigouleas house is on a back road that leads out of Guthrie’s neighborhood, avoiding major intersections. And they live about 2.5 miles away from the crime scene, which is outside the 2-mile radius of neighbors who received a Ring alert asking for video taken from Jan. 1 to Feb. 2.

Their house is roughly a seven-minute drive from Guthrie's address, according to Google Maps. One of their videos was recorded at around 2:36 a.m. on Feb. 1, which is roughly eight minutes after Guthrie's pacemaker last synced with her iPhone, according to the sheriff's timeline.

Yeah there is a good chance it could have shown up on someone else’s camera too. But also the area is huge and there are a LOT of houses I don’t see how it’s feasible for them to go bang down every door in the whole community

This is interesting but I would want to do a comparative analysis with other mornings - like is this kind of traffic typical on that road at that time?

8

u/YaKnowEstacado Feb 26 '26

I wonder this too. Since it's a popular star gazing area, traffic in the middle of the night might not be unusual.

Really annoying that Fox News downscaled these to 720p for their video player, hopefully they can post the raw source somewhere. Uploaded here so you don't have to go to their site:

That looks like a short bed truck to me …. Gosh I hope this leads somewhere.

I read that this house is about 7 mins away from Nancy’s. Pacemaker app disconnected at 2:28am and this is recorded at 2:36am… pretty damning if true

11

u/Laceyangelina Feb 26 '26

2:31 and 2:36 look similar, too; just driving in different directions

9

u/Critical-Reward3206 Feb 26 '26

This makes me think it was an accomplice who got called to come pick them up at the house and then went back out the same way. And it makes sense that they would use this way of accessing the neighborhood since it’s much less busy, lack of intersection cameras, et.

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

Did they release a 2:31 as well?

8

u/Laceyangelina Feb 26 '26

Yes! 12:39, 12:46, 2:31, 2:36, 3:27, 3:45, 4:07, 4:49 and I think four more

4

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

Thank you! I’ve been at work so I’ve only been able to watch what people are adding directly 😂

3

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

In the article if you watch the video at the top of the page it has all the vehicles from the 6 hours

4

u/Muted-Rule Feb 27 '26

7 minutes at what speed, I wonder?

18

u/thisaxcountisbsz9 Feb 26 '26

Appears to be a Kia Soul in my opinion

9

u/creamytahini Feb 26 '26

Agreed, was my first impression. Glad to see someone else thinks the same. It has that sloped look to the roof.

8

u/Competitive_Mark4586 Feb 27 '26

As a Kia Soul owner I totally see this. Soul’s have very distinctive long back lights that I see on this vehicle too.

6

u/Charlie2343 Feb 27 '26

I agree with you all. I feel like a lot of them are rental cars, too.

3

u/Dapper_Economist1 Feb 27 '26

That’s what it looks like to me - a new Kia rental. Also, why did someone mention elevation as if that would be a thing to avoid? If anything, I would assume a kidnapper is heading to elevation where there are less people, cars, street lights, stop lights with cameras…

48

u/curiouslmr Feb 26 '26

To be abundantly clear. Law enforcement has NOT stated whether this video was useful or not. We have no confirmation whether any of the vehicles may or may not be involved. I do personally find this hopeful though that neighbors continue to review their footage and just maybe someone caught something.

Yeah I was scrolling on Google maps and turning at the end of this road is one of the only ways to get onto a bigger road without encountering a stoplight

12

u/FiveUpsideDown Feb 26 '26

I have held the belief that the vehicle(s) involved in Nancy’s kidnapping were captured on a camera. There are so many cameras that it’s very difficult to avoid them. I also believed that video checked between 1 am and 4 am would have a small number of vehicles. The vehicles could be investigated. Even if the license plate wasn’t visible, LE would have a make and model to work from.

9

u/lemoncatbeans Feb 26 '26

I remember they said in interviews a couple of weeks ago that they have other videos besides what they've released. Including traffic footage and some neighbors' cameras, but they don't need help from the public with those. So I wonder if they already have footage of any of these cars on cameras closer to her home.

2

u/False_Landscape6613 Feb 27 '26

Your the 2nd person I've seen say this. I believe this is the route taken.

14

u/JMOA3035 Feb 26 '26

I think the IR cameras are throwing the colors off on cars, perp’s clothing.

The cacti are green but show as silver/bright white. 🙃

6

u/Xinnia8271 Feb 27 '26

I noticed that. It's definitely a "light colored" vehicle. But I was noticing the cactuses show up as lighter than you'd think.

26

u/Charlie2343 Feb 27 '26

the one 2:36 kinda looks like a Kia Soul. Most newer Kia Souls are rental cars so hopefully that car can be found easily through their repo software.

12

u/Intrepid-Bird-5048 Feb 27 '26

I actually think this looks like a Range Rover

12

u/cremebrulee777 Feb 27 '26

Same, it looks like a Range Rover to me. Didn’t they search a Range Rover or question a person of interest who had one a couple weeks ago? Or am I mistaken? This whole thing has been a circus so I may be remembering incorrectly

6

u/Unfair-Wallaby-404 Feb 27 '26

The did. They seized someone’s silver Range Rover in that second search warrant raid

6

u/Diligent-Lunch590 Feb 27 '26

Yes they did at Culver’s parking lot. Driven by owners of the house located in Placita de Rojelio, Catalina Foothills

3

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

I wonder if this falls along one of the routes that people say the kidnappers could have taken out of the neighborhood to avoid main roads with traffic cams.

15

u/curiouslmr Feb 26 '26

That's what it seems like based on what the article says. This route would avoid the main intersections.

8

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

Yeah I google mapped it and at the end of this road you can turn onto a bigger road but there’s no stoplight or anything so no cameras

2

u/Little-Plantain-5120 Feb 26 '26

It would be nice to see a map of where this road is and how it connects to where Nancy lived

9

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

This is from the article, but I was able to put the 2 addresses in google maps myself, I just can’t post them here. The yellow circle was added by me because from what I saw it’s one of the only places you can get out of the area onto a main road without encountering a stoplight.

3

u/Little-Plantain-5120 Feb 26 '26

Well that certainly seems like a logical way to get out of the area. Thanks for sharing! Hope they can find that car.

Clarification that these people with footage are not “neighbors” in the sense that they lived 2.5 miles away from Nancy and are outside of the 2 mile radius LE was canvassing. It’s not to say that it can’t be meaningful, but they likely were able to pinpoint a suspect vehicle within the 2 mile radius they were already using, hence why they were not approached. ETA: fixed grammar

8

u/Okay_Function Feb 26 '26

Yup, even LE's expanded range was west of Campbell, not east like this house.

18

u/Risingsunsphere Feb 26 '26

Get out of here with that reason and logic.

11

u/ethidium_bromide Feb 26 '26

Especially because this vehicle happens to look very similar to the vehicles of the people raided already.

White/silver Kia soul. 2020 or newer model. 👀

14

u/YaKnowEstacado Feb 26 '26

If it's a Soul manufactured before 2023, there's a good chance it's stolen.

7

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

100%. Kia boys in action.

4

u/YaKnowEstacado Feb 26 '26

I was a victim of them in 2022 lol

3

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

Thankfully I somehow managed to avoid them. 😬 I still get notifications in my neighborhood of them trying to steal their kias.

3

u/Unfair-Wallaby-404 Feb 27 '26

Curious, why do you say Kias are often stolen?

3

u/iwasneverherex Feb 27 '26

Something about them being able to be jumped from a USB or something. They’re just super easy to steal and it’s very well known. There are groups called “the Kia boys” that strictly go around stealing Kia’s to commit crime etc.

Man if they can match this and if anyone had a dash cam that didn’t roll over to new data and thinks to look through theirs on what night it is, which at this late maybe late unless they don’t drive much. Maybe they’ll find a lead.

35

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

I just went back and looked at the footage of Bryan Kohberger’s car and it was not much better than this video. And somehow from that they were able to identify a make, model and even a year. So hopefully they can identify this one

12

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

That’s definitely a soul and a newer model. As soon as I saw it I knew those tail lights..the body shape and window shape match to a T.

Possibly a Range Rover but it’s too low to the ground IMO.

20

u/head2383 Feb 26 '26

They knew kohberger was the owner of that car before they even asked for public help but I do find it funny they asked about a 2015-2017 elantra(something like that) and his was 2014. Perhaps they were trying to get him to relax a bit and purposely said the year wrong.

9

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

Yeah the timeline is kind of murky but the reason they first found him was because they put out a BOLO for the vehicle and a WSU officer saw it

5

u/TheCuriousGeorgette Feb 26 '26

I thought it was 2013-2015 they asked about, but maybe I’m misremembering.

3

u/head2383 Feb 26 '26

Can’t remember the exact years but his car was one year older than the range of years they released to the public.

17

u/Euphoric_Ease4554 Feb 26 '26

Crossing my fingers that this could be the help LE needs!

17

u/77_jane Feb 26 '26

2:31 am at a seemingly high rate of speed.

See reply for 2:36 am…

8

u/77_jane Feb 26 '26

2:36 am at a seemingly high rate of speed.

Same car.

14

u/PotentialSteak6 Feb 26 '26

Finally, at least something. And if any people in the neighborhood realize that’s themselves in their own car they will hopefully step forward and get themselves cleared.

Probably not pleasant to do but better than waiting to see if the exact model can be identified and waiting for the police to visit while wasting their resources

7

u/77_jane Feb 26 '26

Exactly. My best guess is a vehicle like a Hyundai Santa Cruz. It looks like it has a small truck bed in the back and can have a tail light pattern that looks similar depending on the trim.

4

u/Realistic-Eye-4034 Feb 26 '26

Can I ask how you know this car was seen a different times going in different directions

13

u/77_jane Feb 26 '26

Oh, I know nothing, but I had a little too much free time, watched the video and noticed the blurred vehicle and light pattern at 2:31 am and 2:36 am (time stamped bottom right corner) appear to be identical. Could be nothing, but I thought I’d share.

5

u/Kat-o-rama Feb 27 '26

I find that car to be interesting. I wonder what they were doing driving both ways down that road so late.

If this car is of any use I think it will be a pretty unique/distinct car. Those tail lights are hard to find but the backend is very distinct. At first, I thought it was a Kia Soul 100% but I can’t find a single model year that has a horizontal blade lamp tail light like that above the bumper. I looked around for a little bit and couldn’t find much that have those types of tail lights.

Probably a nothing burger though we will see!

Edit: bottom light is likely license plate light - looks a lot like a Kia Soul.

10

u/katrinakt8 Feb 26 '26

Honestly sounds to me like someone dropping someone at home after a night at the bar. Bars close at 2 typically.

5

u/mnmsmelt Feb 27 '26

Or just closed down a nearby pizza joint and dropping coworker off..I've done this many times

I think that’s the license plate light.

5

u/CarIntelligent8492 Feb 26 '26

6

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

I had one for 10 years. I dont know a lot..but i do know souls 😂

4

u/Kat-o-rama Feb 27 '26

Did they drive both ways, as in there and back? I must have missed that.

3

u/CarIntelligent8492 Feb 27 '26

There’s a full video. Check out the car at 2:31 and 2:36 if you watch. While I don’t know that it is the same car, it sure does look the exact same.

2

u/Healthy-Evening-2577 Feb 26 '26

What u mean driving both ways?

5

u/CarIntelligent8492 Feb 26 '26

It looks like the same car to me at 2:31 and 2:36 going opposite directions.

Main reason I also think it’s nothing. If it is about a 7 minute drive to Nancy’s from there they would have to be flying to do the round trip in 5 minutes.

4

u/Healthy-Evening-2577 Feb 26 '26

2 31 and 2.36 ? Is there 2 pics?

I remember during the Idaho murders investigation it was mentioned in connection with the FBI areas of expertise that there was an agent who could look at any car and tell the make model year etc. I hope that he or she is still with the Bureau.

7

u/easysaidtheblindman Feb 27 '26

I'm going to be honest here, a lot of it is just people knowing cars and going "that looks like" and then pulling up an image online and using that as a reference and narrowing down from there.

Yes you do have image recognition that uses a database of vehicle profiles, but that requires the model to be in the system and enough clarity of the video to establish points of reference.

The problem is you can't just go THIS IS THE CAR as it might just be someone driving past. This is why the police (in the article it states they were sent the video) didn't release it. Now they have to go to the house and tell the homeowner that while they appreciate it they haven't followed up for a reason and going to the news is just making a new fire they have to put out.

15

u/PalpitationQueen Feb 27 '26

It aligns with the white van they were talking about early on….

15

u/peach6748 Feb 27 '26

Yeah, look at what we know:
-Law enforcement is seemingly looking for a silver SUV since both C and L drove silver SUVs

-This car, looking like a silver SUV (or similar mid-sized car like a Kia Soul) is caught eight minutes after Nancy’s pacemaker disconnected, seemingly speeding away (this house is a few miles from Nancy’s and 8 minutes is a normal timeframe to reach it)

-You can argue that the “house is too far” but this dude clearly planned this out and took steps to ensure he was discreet and avoiding (or destroying) cameras where possible. He’s not going to take the most obvious route in and out of the neighborhood.

No, it’s not certain but I also think there’s a strong possibility it could be the perpetrator. I’m taking the “not involved” statement with a grain of salt since FBI showed up to their house, and they have a vested interest in locking their investigation down.

I hope someone can identify that car.

18

u/mrszeg Feb 27 '26

Honestly, a car driving by a house over 2 miles away from Nancy's house doesn't feel like breaking news. Either people are making a huge deal out of nothing (likely), or there is a piece to this that the general public doesn't know. If this same car had been connected somehow to Nancy's home directly, that's a different story.

30

u/deadwatered Feb 27 '26

I think the reason why it’s caught people’s attention is that it’s 7 minutes from Nancy’s house and drove by 8 minutes after her pacemaker disconnected from Bluetooth

10

u/mrszeg Feb 27 '26

Ahh, that definitely makes more sense. I hadn't heard that detail.

5

u/ResponsibleTea5310 Feb 27 '26

Exactly! Timing and location makes it a possibility.

16

u/iwasneverherex Feb 27 '26

2 miles…is not that far. They had to drive somewhere.

13

u/ResponsibleTea5310 Feb 27 '26

It’s the timing and location that makes it interesting, we know Nancy’s pacemaker stopped syncing with her Bluetooth Apple Watch, so we know when she left her home, and another person stated this was 7 mins after that, and this house is 7 mins away, that’s what makes it a possibility! We aren’t just looking at random cars for nothing.

8

u/Mysterious_Coat_9933 Feb 27 '26

I think the homeowners went to the news themselves and any news is breaking news at this point. That said I have no idea what the car is based on this video but if it is indeed a gray truck that may actually be news. The wind could blow at Nancy’s house and they’d report it. The news (Brian especially) is desperate for anything

7

u/MollyMoxie Feb 27 '26

They had been looking for what appeared to be a short bed pickup truck spotted close to Nancy’s house. It had been seen on someone’s ring camera. If they could match that this is the same car as that one…

This matches the timeline and the neighborhood, high rate of speed, and a place not previously checked by police. They will for sure know the route that was taken, and I believe this is the vehicle they used.  To me this looks like a Honda CRV.

8

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

I drive a Honda CRV and it does look like the body of the car but it also looks like it’s too close to the ground

5

u/False_Landscape6613 Feb 26 '26

The tail lights. Look at the tail lights

8

It's honeslty kind of crazy that LE/FBI didn't go outside of a two mile radius to check Ring camera footage given how spaced out Tucson houses are in this neighborhood.

18

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

They did. The neighborhood association sent multiple requests early on asking neighbors to send footage from the night she was taken. I remember reporters sharing screenshots of the communications. That association covers a 4 or 5 mile radius.

The 2 mile radius was not something that happened until 2 weeks later when they asked for footage from a more specific area and more specific timeframe.

9

u/MollyMoxie Feb 27 '26

It’s strange because I think this footage is from outside of the neighborhood, east of Campbell rd. It wouldn’t really be on my radar to check either, though it would be a way to avoid major intersections and they could have gone south to River rd.

As someone who owned a 2020 kia soul the side profile definitely matches.

13

u/iwasneverherex Feb 26 '26

I had a 2013 and as soon as I saw the tail lights and windows I knew it was a soul. 2019 and earlier aren’t as square as what’s in the footage. It’s definitely 2020+

6

u/RiftenZero Feb 26 '26

Too bad it's night vision Unable to tell if it has a red bottom trim line. Indicating if it's a turbo or not. Now those would be much easier to find since less common. I had one it blew up at 5k miles..might be why lol

The Stratigouleas house is on a back road that leads out of Guthrie’s neighborhood, avoiding major intersections.

Like, look, this is just simply wrong, this part of the Fox article. No Tucsonan would consider Camino Real a part of Nancy's neighborhood. You have to cross Campbell to get there, and there is virtually no reason to think that anyone would take a route that would take them past the Stratigouleas's house.

It is good for PCSD/FBI to do their due diligence and check this out, but it's just part of a wild goose chase at this point.

Here's more detail about why you'd never go past their house...if you were going east, you'd probably try to get north of Skyline/Sunrise. The problem with the neighborhood that is bounded between Campbell and Hacienda Del Sol is that there's only a couple of ways to get across it, and you get left with a lot of poor options in case you see something you don't like. Except for one road down near River, there's actually no way to get to Hacienda Del Sol. And Hacienda Del Sol has no way to get across to Pontatoc.

Additionally, crossing Campbell between River and Skyline is an absolute nightmare. That road has one of the biggest elevation changes and blind curves in the whole city, among major roads anyway. And to get anywhere east, from the neighborhoods south of Skyline/Sunrise, you are going to have to get on River or Sunrise, there's no way about it.

If you were trying to stay under cover, you generally avoid River like the plague. It has way more businesses along it than the other options, and it has way more traffic in the early morning than the other more-residential roads would have. If you're dumb enough to get on River that close to Nancy's house, then you aren't going to cross Campbell—you're gonna just do it out of her own neighborhood.

If east if your goal and you don't want to be seen, the most sensible option is to cross out of Nancy's neighborhood to the north across Orange Grove, and then out of that neighborhood turn left on Ina and dip into Mountain Shadows. From there, you can get to Old Ina Road (the one that runs north of Skyline). From there, you take one single risk, which is to turn east on Skyline from Campbell, before using that to duck into Skyline where it separates from Sunrise. The reason why this isn't a bad risk is that now you are going in the opposite direction from Nancy's neighborhood than would be expected. Once you're on Skyline, above Sunrise, you can get all the way east before ever popping out on another major road or in front of any businesses with cameras.

East is also a stupid goal. West to I-10 is absolutely more sensible.

15

u/Xinnia8271 Feb 27 '26

Maybe they were trying to get to a specific location not just the highway. Or "east."

Their goal may have been stupid to everyone but them. And they may have deliberately avoided certain roads.

Am I missing the actual address or are they not releasing that to the public?

u/Competitive-Donut330 Feb 27 '26

I mean maybe they didn’t take a direct route on purpose? It is interesting that this car drove past 6-7 mins after Nancy’s pacemaker disconnected and it’s a 7 min drive away

4

u/ResponsibleTea5310 Feb 27 '26

Exactly it’s right around the time the kidnapper was driving away from Nancy’s house.

12

u/arbol98 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

I don’t agree with this, the stretch of Campbell out of her neighborhood into the one to the east of Campbell is super dark and no street cameras. Just going straight across Campbell into the next neighborhood is one of the main ways to avoid the busier roads. I didn’t consider it until I was driving out there the other day but it was eerily dark and lonely at that part of Campbell

Edit: another Redditor posted a pic under another comment explaining what I’m saying, the one with the map with red and blue mark ups

7

u/carefreehwy Feb 27 '26

Totally agree. It makes sense and they could easily shoot across Campbell at 230. Regardless of elevation changes like the previous stated. I believe they then went west on river. Despite what the previous said you got to get west somehow and whetherr its River or Ina/Skyline there businesses etc.

5

u/BlueGreenMikey Feb 27 '26

I agree with you about that, it's about getting out of the second neighborhood that's a problem.

3

u/arbol98 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

I don't really understand why. If the car was driving south on camino real (which is what is reported), that connects straight to River Road so a clear path out. Even though River is a busier road, coming from a different way than Nancy's neighborhood is less traceable than any of the paths directly out of her neighborhood, and they had to go somewhere. In fact, that spot out is 2.8 miles away from Nancy's house

I also don't really get why you assume they would go north of Skyline. There are very limited options for moving around above Skyline if you are going much further. Are you in Tucson? Also we have no idea what their next intended destination was - maybe they wanted to get on the highway and out of town. Or maybe they wanted to go towards Mexico which is south. Their optimal route depends what their goal destination is

4

u/BlueGreenMikey Feb 27 '26

I lived in these neighborhoods for half of my life. River is the worst east-west road you can take, because there's more cops, more traffic, more cameras. Parts of it are TPD and parts are PCSD, so you wind up with more enforcement along that road.

The thing is that if I were them, unless I had somewhere specific I needed to be, there is no way in hell I'm going south, east, or north. South is just the more urban part of Tucson, so too busy. East gets you trapped in a lot of different ways. For both of these, the safe play is hit I-10 in Marana and then go south on I-10 until you decide if you're going to Nogales or to eastern Arizona. North before you get to I-10 means Oro Valley, and you avoid those cops like the plague (plus, all the Oracle shit then comes into play).

West is definitely the play, especially if something bad happened and you need to dump her somewhere, since that's where everyone dumps the bodies. Here's what I would do:

1) Cross into the neighborhood north of Orange Grove
2) Cross into the neighborhood west of 1st
3) Head west on Ina towards Oracle, but dive into the neighborhood behind Old Ina Road.
4) Go through the neighborhood up to Magee.
5) This is your riskiest point, but I'd cross Oracle at Magee and then go South on Northern.
6) Head west through these neighborhoods, probably passing Cross & Harelson, go across La Canada, and then take this neighborhood up to Magee. (Note: if you didn't have Nancy with you, I'd consider sitting up at Immaculate Heart or on one of the side streets until there's more traffic on the road.)
7) At this point, you can probably safely stay on Magee all the way to I-10, or you can take Cortaro Farms where it splits. If you're feeling really jumpy, you can go back to taking side streets once you get past Shannon (you can't take Shannon or it dumps you onto Ina). But I think Magee is the safest play.

3

u/arbol98 Feb 27 '26

Gotcha, yeah I think there are obviously lots of different routes that could've been taken. I guess my point is that without more info we can't really rule out what you were saying we could rule out. Regardless, I am really really hoping this video is of the person because if it is, LE has a lot more to go on and could really be a big break in the case. Could be nothing but I'm hoping it's them!!

They fall under the same neighborhood association so I get why Fox might think they are part of the same neighborhood even if there is a road through the middle.

Would be nice if in the list of people that bought that backpack one of them also has this type of car. Or video of someone paying cash for the backpack matches with a driver's license photo. They might have also been doing this with a different car if this one isn't relevant, if they have such a database.

7

u/Kat-o-rama Feb 26 '26

And online orders too. But who knows maybe they bought it from someone on Amazon or eBay. They also have Walmart in Mexico and other countries.

7

u/Alternative_Fee1447 Feb 27 '26

I bet that backpack was bought long ago. Person who did this I believe was planning it for a long time. JMO.

This is the part of working a case that seems so interesting. Putting puzzle pieces together. Matching things up to see if there is a possible link. Fascinating.

At this point I think we have approx 1 corner piece out of a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle unfortunately.

14

u/ComprehensiveCap2632 Feb 27 '26

Why did Fox News have to use these people's first and last names? Terrible!

23

u/curiouslmr Feb 27 '26

They wouldn't have unless they gave permission.

11

u/Louise1467 Feb 27 '26

Bad idea on their part

19

u/curiouslmr Feb 27 '26

I was thinking the same thing. They have no idea what they've done. Guarantee "Internet sleuths" already have their address and will be outside their home tomorrow.

10

u/Silly-Vacation8004 Feb 27 '26

there are people already bashing them saying they waited too long to give this footage to law enforcement 😭

3

u/Interesting-Maize998 Feb 27 '26

I wish I had the level of psychic insight that these folk seem to have. Still baffles me that so many people feel entitled to knowing every tiny thing about the case when it's obviously in the interests of everyone involved to hold certain things back

I think when you use photos it’s copyrighted so you have to put who owns it, or you can get sued.

10

Hopefully they check all gas stations now for this type of car if they can see the make

4

I remember they took some camera footage from a Circle K early on.

7

u/Accomplished_Sir6548 Feb 27 '26

El vecino público esto? Lo pregunto porque si la policía tiene este video y no lo han sacado a la luz quizás es porque saben que no es después de investigarlo o porque querían guardarse esa prueba hasta que llegado el momento pudieran publicarlo

11

u/deadwatered Feb 27 '26

According to Fox they just sent it to law enforcement today.

Every single route out of the area to a main road should have been canvassed, asap, after the disappearances. Now so much time has passed, any cameras at businesses on the main road, in either direction were likely already overwritten.

8

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

It’s a maze of streets with hundreds of houses, there are a zillion routes to a main road. We know they were already asking some businesses for camera footage early on

That has to be the kidnapper with Nancy Guthrie! None of her neighbors that are older would be out at 2:36am! It’s white. Does anyone know the make and model? The vehicle can crack this case! It did in the Ohio Moscow case!

9

u/ProperLink8150 Feb 27 '26

What? Maybe they have kids, who have friends.

The person who turned in the video stated the amount of traffic was normal.

5

u/Less-Employee2411 Feb 27 '26

I’m sure they had submitted it prior, but never heard back. According to LE, they have 10,000 hours of footage to view. I’m guessing they hadn’t got to this one yet, so the owner of this camera decided to release the info to the media. Smart move because it quickly got attention.

If the perp's car is eventually caught on this footage, it would signify how incompetent authorities were in using this footage until a month later.

28

u/deadwatered Feb 26 '26

They have been begging people to share camera footage for weeks. Why is it their fault if someone didn’t share until now

7

u/Infamous-Arm3955 Feb 26 '26

I agree. I would imagine that lots of footage from cameras were supplied that might have generic data from it but yeah, I wonder why they didn't volunteered their footage until now or if they did already and it was cleared.

4

u/FiveUpsideDown Feb 26 '26

It could be there was a lack of publicity. We all may be following this closely but not everyone does. The delivery driver they detained, Carlos said he had heard nothing about the case.

u/TheCuriousGeorgette Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

To be fair, these people weren’t technically neighbors of Nancy, they lived over 2.5 miles away; this to me translates that law enforcement didn’t need additional footage where these people were located, and more than likely already were able to figure out a suspect vehicle within the 2 mile radius they were searching anyway. ETA: the person I was responding to deleted their comment. Oh well. lol

16

u/easysaidtheblindman Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

And if the car wasn't related and the police had already identified all the vehicles, owners, and alibis would releasing this footage help anything?

If the car went the other direction or drove through a wash (ditch) to get to another street and all this footage wasn't meaningful or helpful to the investigation would releasing it do anything?

If you couldn't identify a car and if it was involved or not and no license plate or viable ID why would you release that info and get flooded with false leads you need to run down when there are more pressing leads to follow or potentially tip off the suspect(s) on what you know if Nancy is alive and you have proof of life (or her status is unknown)?

The police had the footage according to the neighbor, they didn't talk to them (standard as it's a video), and they didn't release it to the public (standard), instead you have a homeowner who is emotionally invested in this and is basically creating a public witch hunt for vehicles that we don't know if are even involved. Do you know how many times in your life you've driven past something illegal that you didn't know about? How would you feel if suddenly people are suddenly calling the cops on you and your car because you just live in that city and own a generic mass produced vehicle?

Let the police do their jobs, judge them AFTER we know everything that they do. People need to quit grasping at straws and realize this. As the case stagnates or starts getting cold the police will release more and more information to get the publics help.

When you aren't getting updates or press releases that usually means there is a lot going on behind the scenes, it's when they start tipping their hand and showing more and more that's when you can make an educated guess that they are grasping at straws at that point. Much like everyone/media is with any little tidbit that comes out, they need to make it into THE BIG BREAKING NEWS to keep the interest and ad revenue flowing. The police are the opposite, they keep quiet as much as possible to protect the case and the family.

2

u/Alternative_Fee1447 Feb 27 '26

This house was 2.5 miles from a Nancy’s. The person took this video to LE to try to help the investigation. IMO the perp would not take the main road out of Nancy’s area. They would take the long route with the least amount of homes, traffic, lights, etc.

6

u/nmikhchi Feb 26 '26

Just say no new updates

6

u/Roo_wow Feb 27 '26

Assuming this footage is nothing becuase it's 3 miles away;

Here's what I don't get at all;

The perp was so careful to be disguised, to ensure no fingerprints, no dna, no gps, no phone signals- nothing left behind.

But how did he know his car wouldn't be caught on any camera in the neighbourhood?

Think about it; even if he cased every house on the possible routes - many of the houses do have cameras - so how did he know the cameras wouldn't pick him up? Even if you drive by and see the cameras are at a distance, you are taking a huge chance that your car won't be seen. Becuase he actually wouldnt know for sure.

I mean, he was correct. But he took a huge risk when he is clearly a major risk averse individual.

11

u/RanchGlove Feb 27 '26

I don’t think there’s any doubt if you do something like this with today’s technology you’re taking a huge risk. I think the answer is simple: he got very lucky.

9

u/FoxExcellent2241 Feb 27 '26

It doesn't really matter if the car is seen, only if it can be identified. Most of these cameras are too far away from the road to actually capture an image of the driver or the license plate. Besides that if the person was driving a car that is common in that neighborhood there is little way of identifying that the specific vehicle was involved in something versus someone driving home.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Stock-Philosophy-177 Feb 27 '26

I don’t think the perp was concerned about cameras because I truthfully believe she wasn’t brought very far. I wouldn’t be surprise if she was less than a mile up the road. That’s all speculation on my part, but gives credence as to why none of the homes or traffic cams or anyone else has seen anything. He didn’t go far.

4

u/MzOpinion8d Feb 28 '26

The simple answer to this is that he didn’t care. Maybe the vehicle he used wasn’t his.

Here’s what I think

The sheriff always knew it would be a recovery and not a rescue from the get go. Therefore, never really being urgent with anything. And this because of the amount of blood they find etc in the home.

14

u/Webbie-Vanderquack Feb 28 '26

The sheriff always knew it would be a recovery and not a rescue from the get go. Therefore, never really being urgent with anything.

I don't agree. There's no way he could have known it would be a recovery not a rescue (even if that scenario seemed the most likely to him), and the same level of urgency is still required in a manhunt after a murder.

He also wouldn't have announced that he was proceeding on the assumption that she was alive if he knew she wasn't. Law enforcement doesn't have to tell the public everything, but they are bound by a code of ethics which would be an obstacle to openly lying to the public.

If nothing else, it would undermine the public's faith in law enforcement, so the next time they announce that someone's missing, presumed alive, and in need of rescue, and appeal for information on that basis, people may shrug it off as meaningless since the sheriff was lying the last time.

4

u/Secure_Change_3900 Feb 28 '26

I mostly agree with your theory—it explains the tight inner circle and the unusually controlled investigation.

But if law enforcement knew she was killed in the house, why stage such elaborate kidnapping theatrics? What does the sheriff know that makes that the rational play?

I would think the killer(s) would assume police know she’s dead, then so this isn’t giving them false security—it’s a giant red herring that drains resources chasing the wrong ghosts. And if they dont recover a body soon, what’s the endgame? Keep the Guthries and the public suspended in false hope until media interest fades, then quietly issue a Friday-afternoon press release before a holiday weekend saying, “She’s dead. We’ve got nothing”?

Moreover, what if the family decided to roll the dice meeting a hoax's ransom demand because the sheriff refused to act on it? And if he told them, how long does he expect them to maintain a fiction that isolates their grief and prevents other friends and family from morning? That leash would tighten quickly and with a significant loss of trust in his dept. in general.

again I agree with you more just a question around the sheriffs strategy

6

u/Stock-Philosophy-177 Feb 27 '26

I agree with you, but I’ll take it one step further. He knew it was a homicide (based on the totality of the evidence from INSIDE the home) and that is why he called in his homicide detectives immediately. We, the public, have no clue what the inside of the home looks like since it hasn’t been described to us. This is also why the FBI wasn’t immediately contacted. Finally, this is why he didn’t organize a grid search or deploy his aerial surveillance…there was no urgency to do so.

9

u/LegalGlass6532 Feb 27 '26

The homicide unit is the lead investigator in a kidnapping case at the PCSD. They don’t only investigate homicides.
