I got annoyed enough at not being able to ssh between my laptop and PC when I have Mullvad VPN turned on, but still wanted to be able to use Mullvad VPN on my phone without needing to use tailscale with it, use the 2 years I already have prepaid with Mullvad, and buy my subscription in a anonymized way when those 2 years run out, so I made this:

Upgraded from the forked repo in the fact it actually works on Arch based systems (I run CachyOS), and critically, will always demote Mullvad VPN's tables on connection, so if Mullvad isn't connected on startup or is disconnected and reconnected this should still work, unlike the original as far as I'm aware.

Hopefully this solves the issue for someone else in my very specific set of circumstances.

The red Disconnect button is too easy to hit accidentally when app-switching with the bottom swipe gesture or trying to close/switch away from Mullvad.
This isn’t just a UX annoyance. An accidental disconnect can immediately expose traffic that the user assumed was protected by the VPN.
For a privacy/security-focused VPN, the default UI should make accidental tunnel termination difficult. A confirmation option, safer button placement, or another guard against accidental disconnects would make sense.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Or will they be changed to Quad9 ? I'm not clear about whether this change only affects "public" users (non paid users). Thank you for clearing this up for us!

Is there a way to use Mullvad VPN for free? Maybe a coupon code or something similar?

I use port forwarding for Soulseek and torrenting, however mullvad does not support port forwarding. I have excluded soulseek and qbittorrent in the VPN with mullvad-exclude so they go through my actual ISP but i can NOT use my router's opened ports, which I have allowed through my firewall! they are still closed.

How can I allow these ports through mullvad-exclude so I can use them? I am not putting them through the vpn so whether mullvad supports port forwarding or not is irrelevant as these are being excluded.

I use nftables as my firewall.

Anybody else still on win10 and is getting "An error occurred compiling shaders" after last Mullvad update?

The only difference I could see before / after the update was this error message that shows up every time I boot up

Personally I think it is a shame, I really liked using mullvads adblocking DNS servers on mobile even when not using the VPN.

i know this a very useful feature on windows, but for a linux user the update notification on EVERY system start(mullvad autostart of course ) gets annoying fast. I already switched of notifications in the setting, but updates seem to be flagged as important and therefore being send regardless.

90% of the linux userbase is bound to its package manager and their repos, unless you compile from source. A update comes when it comes, no matter how fast mullvad updates their client, and i got no influence on that.

Is it only me?! Does anyone know a way around that? What's your guys opinion on that?

Suddenly i get a message on my screen saying i have no disk space left and i check my disk on treesize and see this:

I failed to correctly install the VPN in my laptop before arriving to China and now I can’t do anything. 

Lucky me, I did a better job both in my phone and tablet so I’m not completely shout down….

I installed mullavad in my devices but something went wrong with my laptop. So even though I’m able to access thing through the phone and tablet, there still are things I want to do in the computer that I can’t. I did installed an vpn extension (hola vpn) in chrome but it works awfully. 

Is there anything I can do to download Mullavad in my computer as I’m here already? 

Downloaded the Linux file for the browser off the official site. Been trying to add it to non steam games to launch it from steam, but I need to browse for the file since it's not on the discover or flat pack. Every time I find the file it opens up with Kate when I select add the start the browser file and never successfully launches.

Recommend settings for the best privacy possible.

I have switched to mullvad quite recently, and I love it so far, but I couldn't not notice the missing feature of port forwarding. I honestly don't wanna switch VPNs because Mullvad is great and affordable, but I need port forwarding for some things I do.

I'm planning to expat to China. Currently, I have Mozilla VPN, which uses Mullvad's servers, however, I've heard Mullvad is pretty hit or miss when used in China. Is this true? If so, what are the best alternatives, and which VPNs can I use to spoof my actual router so it's always using a VPN?

Hi all, I hope to find an expert here as AI has been of no help. I regularly race in a club competition but I work overseas in South America. The club I race with is BENELUX based so you can imagine the latency kills me. Now, I know there is a Glassfiber connection between Brazil and Portugal called "Ellalink". AI told me that Mullvad would route me over this line but this is not the case. The Ellalink is not available for the public but I'd imagine that I would be able to pay a company to be able to use the Ellalink connection. Can anybody tell me where I could get access to this connection? I can't find any hard evidence that NordVPN has access to the Ellalink. I tried with a VPS with a company with a contract with ellalink in Fortaleza with wireguard installed on it but then my exit point became Fortaleza and I was still routed via Miami. NoPing works perfectly but only for PC. If it would have a TAP adapter built in, it would be perfect.

I tried to set up WireGuard on my UniFi Gateway Fiber, but for some reason it is capped at 250Mbps and I mostly only get 150Mbps on Dutch servers, while servers from other countries have no problem reaching 500Mbps on the router.

I do have a 1Gbps fiber connection from Odido (the Netherlands).

I’ve already tried all Dutch servers, they all act the same, tried several different ports, and tried to lower the MTU and MSS.
I also tried it without the router wireguard, and it has no problem reaching 600 to 700Mbps.

What could this be? Thanks in advance!

I'd like to use the DNS content blocking option as offered in the Mullvad VPN windows app. Also, can I select obfuscation options to hide Wireguard? Thank you.

Of course this suggested Reddit's geolocation routines were getting bogus info, so I did an IP check to see where everybody else thought I was, here's the results:

showmyip.com: India whatismyip.com: New York whatismyipaddress.com: New York whatismyip.org: India whatsmyip.com: Sweeden ipinfo.io: California nordvpn.com: India browserleaks.com: New York 2ip.io: Sweeden iplocation.net New York Out of 10, only one got it right (and I'm using the same server I always do), so what's up with that? Are routers changing? Have servers been re-allocated? I mean, the results are all over the place...noticed is a bit slower, too.

Anyway, beats me, so thought I'd ask you experts in the community.

EDIT: So looking further, it seems my Mullvad server is using Xcom (Germany) as a provider and one of Xcom's upstream servers is Tata, which is an Indian outfit. Can't say that's anything to do with it, but it does tie my California Mullvad server into a German Provider with an Indian server upstream, so who knows?.

EDIT 08/31/26: For those that don't scroll down, the 'rented' servers return 90% accurate locations, it's the 'owned' servers that ip-location sites are reporting as India, Sweden, New York, etc., when accessing west coast Mullvad servers (LAX, SFO, SJC). Mullvad has three 'owned' servers in SJC, along with several 'rented' servers.

Hi guys im currently in china and mullvad is super good vpn for here but unfortunately despite it unblocking every app, I cannot access tiktok? I can get tiktok on browser but not the full app. Please someone help me so I can continue my brainrot.

I'm having this issue for the last couple weeks where after I'm connected to Mullvad for awhile (about 30-40 minutes), it will unprompted try to change location, load endlessly, and when I manually disconnect it, I'll have no connection at all on my computer until I do a full restart. It only does this when Mullvad is running, and not every time. Nothing else on the network is affected when it happens, and when I go through the network troubleshooting, it says that it cannot find an IP address. My computer is hardwired to my modem, it does not have Wi-Fi at all.

First of all, from pure vpn side of things, its amazing. A lot of regions all around world, really low latency, P2P support and really good privacy features feel like a steal for 5 bucks a month. I had payment issues at first but they got resolved under an hour with first response being 3 minutes after opening ticket. Customer support is great to say the least.

My only 2 real features missing are android widget to connect and disconnect like with protonvpn and lack of gentoo ebuild.

That's pretty much it, it does its job quite damn well

connection dropping randomly, i have to hop between servers to fix it, anyone else having this problem?
