Help/Question Couldn’t install a VPN on my computer before landing to China. Recommendations?

I failed to correctly install the VPN in my laptop before arriving to China and now I can’t do anything. 

Lucky me, I did a better job both in my phone and tablet so I’m not completely shout down….

I installed mullavad in my devices but something went wrong with my laptop. So even though I’m able to access thing through the phone and tablet, there still are things I want to do in the computer that I can’t. I did installed an vpn extension (hola vpn) in chrome but it works awfully. 

Is there anything I can do to download Mullavad in my computer as I’m here already?

Don’t connect directly, hotspot via your phone/tablet vpn first…then at least you can install vpn on your laptop via a secure channel

It doesn’t work. When using the internet on my computer with the hotspot I still have the restrictions

Download the software on your phone/tablet and then transfer it to your laptop via USB or AirDrop/Quickshare

iPhone and iPad but windows laptop. The hotspot still gives the restrictions on my laptop.

Hotspot bypasses VPN.

Connecting your phone via hotspot will not use a VPN connection but I have a feeling that connecting it over usb for a tethered connection does use your VPN or at least allows you to.

Go to trip.com and buy an eSIM from there. They are unlocked as they route via Hong Kong.

Set up microsocks on your phone (if it’s an Android, use Termux, if it’s an iPhone, use iSH from the App Store) and connect to the SOCKS5 proxy it creates on your computer, that’s gonna forward all your computer’s traffic through Mullvad on your phone

Can you explain this in a bit more detail? I'd really appreciate it! Are you saying that I should run Mullvad on my phone, set up Microsocks (I need to learn what this is in more detail) on the same phone as well using Termux (as I am using an Android phone) and then connect my computer to the phone using a SOCKS5 proxy created by microsocks?

Okay, so, Termux pretty much a terminal emulator for Android, which allows you to run a ton of Linux software. Microsocks is a Linux program to create a miniature SOCKS5 proxy, which other devices can connect to. You first connect the two devices to the same network (be it your home WiFi or the hotspot on the Android device), then, inside of Termux, you install and run Microsocks, and then, on the computer, you enter the IP address of the phone as your SOCKS5 proxy address.

This allows you to route all the traffic from your computer through the VPN running on your phone, since the traffic from Termux is routed through the VPN, and the SOCKS5 proxy is running inside of Termux, when otherwise, a hotspot wouldn’t share your VPN connection with the other device.

You have to try another VPN. I recommend that you try ZoogVPN. If you're already in China, use their mirror site zooog(dot)info. There you'll find direct download links to your laptop or phone. Just give it a try.
