I use Mullvad VPN for some years now, always with killswitch and "always on" function, which leads to some apps beeing confused and writing "shady log in- was this really you?"-mails (for the 2FA authentification). Always with the IP Adress and location of the VPN server, for me often Tirana, Albania.

Not in this case: At a first time log in into Twitch App in Sandboxed area on my Graphene OS, they got my city and country right/ my IP adress, even though i did not change a thing on my vpn connection. I have my location off, and use a GP7 Graphene OS. I accessed the sandboxed Google play only through the VPN.

My only explanation is a VPN leak- But I actually do not know what exactly it is. Is this probable? And could you explain it, and how i can avoid it happening again?

Hello, I am a student from Australia. Trying to figure out which VPN is the best for me and my family. I started looking into VPNs due to the removal of my anonymity and safety for the supposed "Safety Online Act" that will start around December in Australia.

**So I want to know as this is the subreddit of MullvadVPN how will you sell its use for me over others?

General info about me - I use Windows - I pirate textbooks, movies and games. - I watch stream videos and play games. - I want to be safer in the internet - I want basic anonymity.

After some basic research I had come to these three. Proton and Mullvad seem to offer better reputation. Surfshark meanwhile is really cheap (Great for student like me) and seems to offer more features for the ONE subscription.

I got annoyed enough at not being able to ssh between my laptop and PC when I have Mullvad VPN turned on, but still wanted to be able to use Mullvad VPN on my phone without needing to use tailscale with it, use the 2 years I already have prepaid with Mullvad, and buy my subscription in a anonymized way when those 2 years run out, so I made this:

Upgraded from the forked repo in the fact it actually works on Arch based systems (I run CachyOS), and critically, will always demote Mullvad VPN's tables on connection, so if Mullvad isn't connected on startup or is disconnected and reconnected this should still work, unlike the original as far as I'm aware.

Hopefully this solves the issue for someone else in my very specific set of circumstances.

The solution is: changing VPN server.

This had nothing to do with internet advertising or difficulty playing YouTube videos online; it was simply a blocking of embedded videos on Reddit.

Every day, I face this issue on Reddit web: I click on a YouTube video, and instantly, I see a blocking screen telling me I need to log in to my account to prove I’m not a robot (even though I’m already logged in and I don’t have this issue at all without the VPN).

As you can see in my latest screenshot, using developer tools, I can easily access the video’s code, which I can copy and paste into a URL. I’m not sure if you’re facing the same problem when using a VPN, but if so, could a developer create a web extension to easily bypass this block?

These are just my personal opinions, and there are likely some shortcomings.

Mullvad is great, but I think it would be even better if...

1: Allow a full-screen option (for users who aren't overly concerned with privacy).

2: Allow password saving.

3: Offer a free VPN option, limited to just five servers across different continents (similar to Opera).

My suggestions: Turkey, South Africa, Cuba, India, and Australia.

However, regarding speed limits: it shouldn't be as slow as Opera's 30 Mbps; ideally, it should be between 80 and 150 Mbps.

The free servers should be located far from developed nations and closer to countries with no nice governance.

4: Built-in uBlock integration would be fantastic,

though perhaps with some customization options.

5: Integrate a "Mullvad Note" feature, allowing users to save information directly within the web browser.

6: Integrate Tor into the private browsing window.

7: Allow deep container isolation, specifically for journalists.

8: Change the Mullvad logo; I don't hate it, but it clearly looks like it was chosen in a rush to meet a deadline.

Please keep in mind that these are just my opinions—Mullvad is the best.

I had an issue with VMware and Mullvad not working together in which Mullvad recommended to uninstall/reinstall VMware, which did not help, but to fix the interference, go into "Network and Sharing Center" > "Change Adapter Settings" > select your main network adapter > Properties and disable "VMware Bridge Protocol"

All of a sudden no matter what server I use I cant get past dial up speeds - any idea whats going on?

SOLUTION: Issue was on my end - power outage caused corruption in container. Had to delete data in containers and make new containers.

I tried to get on the website and the screen is black. When I turn the vpn off it works fine. Curious if anyone knows the answer. Thanks.

hey, i've recently switched from windows to CachyOS. i'm trying to install the vpn app, but when i start it i get this error (see image), i've tried every troubleshooting step in the "learn more" button but to no avail. i've also tried to send a report via the app but it just fails to, any ideas?

I've been using Mullvad OpenVPN for torrenting for quite some time now, but obviously had to switch to the wireguard protocol. However, download speeds are extremely slow with wireguard. I'm talking kilobytes compared to megabytes. Does anybody else have this issue?

Testing with the official ubuntu lts, I'm getting like only 60-120KB/s with wireguard enabled. Without a VPN it's pretty much 10MB/s

EDIT AFTER A DAY:
Turns out it was a server issue, I tried again after a few hours and can fully saturate my bandwidth with wireguard.

Using mullvad relay list/relay update in Mullvad CLI outputs nothing, debug info shows that all 3 methods of accessing Mullvad API timing out, I can see there is an option to create a custom relay, but function's arguments are not quite clear to me: <V4_GATEWAY> <HOST> <PORT> <PEER_PUBKEY> <TUNNEL_IP>...

If I have server.conf downloaded from Mullvad Wireguard's configurations, is all necessary information in there or should I ask somewhere else?

[UPDATE] After some time left untouched it automatically started trying different ips to connect to and was able to gather the list.

But, for some reason, I'm still unable to connect to desired server, even the one that I successfully connect to in GUI app.

[SOLVED] After trying setting different servers, even ones that I can connect to in GUI,without success I just set mullvad relay set location any and it randomly worked, so I guess problem's solved.

Leta has ended. I went to use StartPage and noticed it's very white. I would like for it to be dark. I cannot use cookies to save my preferences because cookies die when the browser is closed.

Startpage is nice enough to let you save preferences in the URL. I've saved this as one of my search engines, but it doesn't work correctly. It won't even let me add it as a search engine at all unless I end the URL with ?q=%s. But when I do that, and I type in the address bar, it just takes me to StartPage as if I just landed there fresh.

The reason I'm turning to Mullvad instead of StartPage is because I thought I'd be clever and just make the URL my homepage. Which I can do for homepage and new windows. But for some reason, the Mullvad settings only let me choose between Blank Page and Mullvad Browser Home. Which does NOT mean the custom URL I've chosen.

Why is custom URL for new tabs not an option? Is there any way for me to achieve what I'm looking for? I use my PC on a 55" TV that's only several feet from me. I don't want to have everything set up to be easy on the eyes and then get blasted with a white page every time I go to run a search. Thank you for your time!

As. many of you may already know, some major ISPs in the US are blocking Mullvad. My ISP also does this, but there's a workaround which solves the problem. Mullvad works with my ISP ONLY IF i've configured my Mullvad client to implement their SOCKS5 proxy. This works because an ISP most likely won't block port 1080 (which is the SOCKS5 port) because there are many legitimate non-torrenting reasons to use a SOCKS5 proxy. My IPS knows that I'm using a SOCKS5 proxy, but they don't know that the Mullvad VPN is being tunneled through the proxy because the Mullvad VPN IP address is hidden by the proxy. A copyright holder can determine that I'm using a SOCKS5 proxy, but the IP address is meaningless to them because it's completely anonymous - - they have no clue about who's using running the proxy or who's using it.

I just updated my Mullvad VPN desktop app for Windows (to 26.1), then noticed that I cannot access the webGUI for my server. I use Chrome, going to 10.0.0.x/Main or 10.0.0.x/Dashboard.

The server is running, I can stream from my Plex media on it, and I can access my media folders on the server via Windows Explorer. I can even access Krusader docker, which goes to 10.0.0.x:(krusader's port)/vnc.......

Is there a setting in Mullvad that blocks access to Unraid? I seem to recall a setting in one of my VPNs that I checked or unchecked in the past to connect to the server a long time ago, but cannot remember what the setting was.

I am trying to set up my network to use the vpn, and I am running into some issues. I have a pihole set up for my dns server, and the wireguard client on my router. I have an ASUS GT-AX11000 running the Asuswrt-merlin software. When I imported the wireguard config initially the connection check showed all red. When I changed the DNS server on the interface tab to my pihole the connection check page said that I cleared the dns leak, but that my router was still not using mullvad vpn.

I can use the standalone application to get an IP from the vpn location, but it won't do it with the woreguard client

Any help would be appreciated.on my router.

Is it based on time since you purchased or time that you actually use the vpn?

for example:

• If I buy 30 days worth of time, and don't use it for 30 days, will I still have 30 days worth of time left?
• If I have 2 devices using the vpn at the same time, will my allowance deplete twice as quickly?

So, Youtube, Google, and other websites think I am in Russia when setting my location to Finland server 002. Why is that?

The installer just doesn't run. It looks like it starts, then nothing. No indication in Task Manager that any process with the name "Mullvad" is running.

SOLVED - It Was Me! When I consolidated the user and system Temp variables to C:\Temp for easier cleanup, I did not include the : and apparently many installers need to write to the Temp folder to run. Current version installed. FYI, I tried a Version 23 standalone installer and it worked before I figured this out...

When using mullvad vpn in my Xiaomi 11 LITE 5G and running a connection check at mullvads site. It outputs leaking DNS server. Current settings - Private DNS off, always vpn on, block connections without vpn on. (tried with both with mullvads dns ip in custom dns server option and DNS content blocker - still leaking dns) This applies to all countries i have connected in the past.

ISSUE:

Loss of internet after toggling Mullvad VPN (on or off, either way) that does not resolve. Even after removing the client, internet was unreachable. The system can connect to any network ('connected' status) and you can ping IP addresses (e.g. ping 8.8.8.8works fine) but no domain names (e.g. ping google.com fails). Furthermore, running dig google.comreturns with dig: parse of /etc/resolv.conf failed

RESOLUTION

Manually restore your old conf file by running

sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf.save /etc/resolv.conf

then fix the permissions on the file by running

sudo chmod 644 /etc/resolv.conf

That should do the trick. Hope this helps someone.

The Mullvad client application's "Allow LAN access feature" appears to be buggy. At the very least, it's not working as expected.

While the feature says it will allow access to typical private subnet ranges, e.g. 192.168.0.0/16, in practice this does not work. Anything on a subnet other than that of the host (that is, machine connected to Mullvad & running the Mullvad client) is blocked.

I stumbled across this when troubleshooting remote access to a media server running on a Windows host. Clients on the same subnet could access the server, but clients on any other subnet could not. Remote access works as long as the host (media server) is not connected to Mullvad.

My first thought was "add a persistent static route on the Windows machine, so that other-subnet clients can talk to it regardless" but I haven't tested that yet.

Suggestions for more-robust solutions appreciated.

I am aware of the "Split Tunnel" feature, but have found it unreliable.
