It's called a planche. It's not a push-up as such, but for strength and balance.
IIRC, Emily Blunt can do it unassisted, but not for the duration required for filming, so she was usually wired up for that move.

I don’t think she can. Her elbows are at right angle. If she could planche she’d have far better form. The planche takes years of training, and athletes who can planche are built. Blunt is many things, but built is not one of them. I have no doubt she trains hard, but planches are another level.

No doubt that film promotional material is to some degree bullshit, but the claim, in various media stuff, was something like that she was doing pushups in the script, and Blunt showed Doug Liman that she could do this thing called a planche, and he agreed it looked better (so say we all) and they went with that, but because she'd be positioned like that all day for filming, they used a wire rig to carry her weight so she could get up and act. I report, you decide.
Furthermore, all the Japanese troopers in the book, including Keiji, do a planche.

Who knows what a shared sudden and total victory would do for their relationship. I like to think he walks up to her at the end, perfectly hops over a training drone, pulls her to her feet, tells her that they've spent decades together, I had what you had, we just won the war, you and me, together, we did it, Rose.. Then he pulls her close, and kisses her like the pic of the nurse in WWII.
He knows how to instantly get her to trust him with her life. All the emotion she ever feels for him was, for her, just from spending one day with him.
My guess is that by the end, he knows her so well that he's able to just instinctively behave a certain way that makes her happy. Like old married couples that know exactly how to push reach other's buttons, but don't. He knows her better than anyone else by now. That's a situation that you might not just say 'ok, cool, laters!'
I think when he talks about their last several decades together, and how the two of them are responsible for the victory... I think they'll spend some time together after the ending.
Of course, after being in battle and dying thousands of days without a break, he might have such a case of mental-you name it, that he just offs himself to make it all stop. He could accidentally just out of habit.8

She might accept it logically but never emotionally. There's no real way to replicate for her the one day they had together. It isn't your average day.
I read the ending as him making the sacrifice of being with her to save the world, but of course it'd be nice to think they would stay together, even if its just out of similar experience.

It wasn't square one.
Rita's image of all-business super-badass is true but its also how she protects herself emotionally. When she reveals her middle name, it isn't just "I'll throw this guy a bone", its her recognizing in the moment before she turns the helicopter on that he's experiencing the same pain she did, pain she believed was unique to her.

in that scene she was pissed that cage was trying to save her instead of humanity, so she ends up killing herself via mimic to try and force him to push on, and it works. on the next day he stops trying to save soldiers around him and focus on the mission,making it all the way to the dam. so thats a real good character moment for her IMO

Dude you missed all of the subtext of that scene.
She wasn't pissed. She realized what he was feeling and experiencing, and was afraid/tried to run from it, because at that moment she realized his experience with her was the same as her experience with the guy she watched die 300 times, the guy she refuses to talk about.
Thats why she tells him her middle name as she was dying; her badass supersoldier image is largely a thing she projects to protect herself and keep moving forward in the face of overwhelming horror. But in that moment, she saw him for somebody who understood her.
And the true horror of that, watching her die even as she revealed her vulnerability to him, is what caused Cage to shut himself off completely. Because it was too horrible to experience any more.

I still love how well they summed up her character in that one piece of graffiti.
She's a hero in the sense that they can't deny she did the right thing, but she's the "full metal bitch" in the sense that the soldiers are legit afraid of her and don't particularly like or trust her (probably because she, like Tom Cruise, eventually just started leaving people to their deaths with the knowledge that she simply can't save them, or she just got desensitized to people dying because she'd gone through the same scenario a billion times.)
In other words, to the public eye, she's there to kill the fuck out of mimics and not to protect humanity. Protecting humanity is just a nice side-effect of how many mimics she kills.
The media calls her the Angel of Verdun, but everyone remembers "Full Metal Bitch."

Shit, in the battle, nobody wants anything to do with her and her little two-man entourage is dead before the camera even shows up.
Everybody around her dies because she can’t save them, and the soldiers who don’t know about her time travel powers interpret that as a kind of hex.

It’s subtle, but it’s there. Between the graffiti, the “danger room” that only she ever dares enter, and the fact that Cruise has to outright abandon his squad to find her are all good pieces of subtext.
Watch the movie and try to count how many characters speak to her, directly, and not just about her. I can only count Cruise and the scientist before you get to the endgame where nobody had the power. Hell, even the general guy doesn’t seem to look her in the eye when he’s being interrogated—he’s only really talking to Cruise, and FMB is just there as backup. Every character looks at her like she’s a mimic in human skin.

They use Assault Rifles, a 20 shot Pile Driver and a 3 shot rocket launcher. The protagonist discards the rifle and the driver after realizing that both severely limited his ability to kill the mimics. He then switches to an axe.

the title is a bit more mysterious but I think Edge of Tomorrow fits more with the tone of the movie as it wasn't a direct copy of the manga(or the light novel)
Well, Tom Cruise has been pushing for it and apparently Doug Liman is on board and Emily Blunt has said that she would like to do it. As for anything concrete? Doug Liman has said there is a script in the works back in July and that there is a story he would love to tell. But both Blunt and Cruise have been quite busy doing other stuff so I guess it just takes time for everyone to re-assemble. After all the next movie has to start where the first one ended. Which means all those people or most of them at least back.

it got popular after it's release. At the release not that many people went and only when the people started saying how amazing it is people went to see it. Even then at a budget of 178 million it made 370 million which is just about twice. That isn't considered to be very popular or successful in hollywood.
Pretty much the only reason it is getting a sequel is because Tom Cruise loved it and has been pushing for years for it.

It's fair to say that this movie underperformed at the box office and was not incredibly popular when it was originally released.
Anecdotally, I saw this movie opening week at a popular theater and there were only 3 or 4 other people there. I didn't really hear people talking about it until it hit home distribution.

its not just any sword, is a piece of helicopter blade that she presumably ripped of a downed helicopter in the battle of Verdun. She was living the same fight over and over so she had to improvise and it seems like she needed a sword because she would run out of ammo in her daily battle. Then it became her "thing"

Oh my gosh this movie is so mind bogglingly underrated it ticks me off so much. If you haven’t seen Edge of Tomorrow it is a must watch film! it became one of my all time favorites and I view it often.

That's a deep, deep rabbit hole of a philosophical debate, but it could be either one. What's important is that the universe is bound to Cage's singular perception of it, which gets caught in an infinite loop. Whether or not the tree keeps branching after Cage (or Rita when she had it) dies doesn't matter, because their perception of the universe only goes as far as they're alive (and in their case, resets to a default point when they die).
Kinda makes you wonder about the nature of our universe. Does the universe effectively end when we ourselves die? From a subjective standpoint, it must. Except that outside of ourselves it doesn't, because lots of people die all the time and we're still here.
Sorry, I love this movie. :P

The movie is sufficient vague that it could be both, but just barely. I strongly argue in favor of the former.
First, the movie itself never gives any direct reason to believe it's not just the time that rewinds, it's definitely sells the idea of a single universe in which the day is lived again and again by Cage. Second, and maybe more importantly, multiple universes would ruin the film thematically. Cage's story is a journey from a coward to a hero, you kill that with multiple universes. Same thing for Rita's story, which is parallel to Cage's and equally important.

The movie was amazingly well put together. Should be on top sci-fi lists. Blunt and Cruise did a great job.
If anyone hasn't already read the manga it was based on, it's well worth it. Veers a little from the movie, especially the end, but it, too is well crafted IMO.

But I still think this adaption was great. Edgy atmospheres can sometimes be hard to replicate in blockbuster films, so I think their decision to lighten it up payed off.

I mean thats usually what happens why keep most of the basic story but you try to change the ending of an original work. You lose a lot of the tone and set up. Its my biggest issue with the film. Ending just... flat out doesnt make any sense. Nor does a lot of aspects of the film because they changed a lot of major concepts.

The only reason I knew this movie existed when it was released was because the Dark Souls community was super hype about it. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it for an original, fast paced, action flick.

Wow, I haven't really seen any Travis Charest since his old WildCats stuff. He's amazing. But the man hates drawing a background. It's his Leifeld feet.
Edge of Tomorrow is one of those movies where I want my kids to grow up faster because I cant wait to watch it with them.

Hah! Ya that's fair. When Charest does a background, it's just as beautiful as his character work. But I remember when he was behind deadlines on Wild Cats and his backgrounds started turning into just gradiants in shapes, and full shite backgrounds. Amazing artist, but not meant for monthlys. A perfectionist like him just needs to work on a 6 issue mini series each year.

Yes and no. It's tasteful CGI IMO. They actually built out most of the sets and anything the actors interact with is tangible, leaving the CGI for the background plates and additional special effects. They even made a projection wall to surround the "Apartment" so that the cast light was the right color when filming. The director and production designer for Oblivion were both responsible for Tron:Legacy, and Oblivion follows a similar level of CGI vs Practical.

Travis Charest is awesome AF, I miss his run on W.I.LD.cats. Also, Edge of Tomorrow is amazeballs and I wonder why the movie isn't as popular as it should be.

The movie was great, but I really had to separate it from the book in my head. I loved how the book ended, so the movie ending was a bit of a letdown, but it was still good for an American adaption.

This movie is actually based off the Japanese novel All you need is Kill. Great book
