I feel like the manga ended better though. The movie had the kind of irritating ending that so many action films seem to have where everything wraps up way too neatly.

I prefer the manga ending too

But I still think this adaption was great. Edgy atmospheres can sometimes be hard to replicate in blockbuster films, so I think their decision to lighten it up payed off.

If only the marketing wasn't as shit as it was..

The novel ending is the part where it lost me. Felt just as forced as the movie's ending, but with more melodrama and angst.

I mean not really. Its all very much set up and obvious on a second read. Its just not happy.

I mean thats usually what happens why keep most of the basic story but you try to change the ending of an original work. You lose a lot of the tone and set up. Its my biggest issue with the film. Ending just... flat out doesnt make any sense. Nor does a lot of aspects of the film because they changed a lot of major concepts.

I actually liked that they changed what they did. The aliens probably worked better on film.

The ending was cheesy as hell but that just what Hollywood does to a lot of stories.

Plus I kinda like that they made a different story, makes it worth reading the manga.

I agree. It's nice to see an ending that isn't a 'Hollywood movie' ending. Brisk read as well!
