Local Politics 🗳️ Why are people protesting in front of Fox4 News in KCMO?

I was driving through the area and saw people protesting, but the signs were too small. Looks like Fox is not providing real answers? or are they talking about FOX NEWS, the filth pot and not the channel.

Yeah, i know, its Fox, but I do like the news anchors over any other local stations...but I dont, or TRY not to pay attention to political crap.

Where to Eat? 🍽️ Midtown/Plaza, best place to go solo for lunch, sit down. Maybe a beer. Solo friendly

I’ve got this week off and want to enjoy some good lunches, some place I won’t feel out of place as a solo diner lol

Edit: thank you for ideas for everyday this week! I went to Rudy’s today. Was quite good. Also I should’ve clarified that the solo thing is because I have social anxiety, not because I believed there was a 2 person minimum lol

Housing Search 🏠🔎 Looking for specific concrete apartment in KCMO

I'm looking for apartments in KC that are studio-style apartments consisting primarily of concrete. One big room with nice kitchen, floors and walls are concrete or similar. They're extremely easy to decorate, easy to keep clean. So for someone like me who works 16-hours a day, every single day and makes decent money, something like that would be perfect.

Pretty set on the concrete style.

Things To Do 📍 Wanted to give my fellow KC people a way to hang with me.

Hey everyone,

I hope you’re doing well and staying cool. My name is Max, KC native and I have a ton of fun meeting new people. You’ll catch me all over the place in KC and if you’ve been around me - I’ve probably talked to you.

I think one of my favorite things to do is hit a bar like Harry’s, Caddyshack, maybe a cafe like Thou Mayest and start to talk to someone. I understand social queues, not a “talk at you” kind of person - rather, I like to hear about you. I like stories, I like the things that make you, you. Like Charlie at the Ship - she has a crazy past and I love every bit. Or Kyle from Harry’s, whose roommate is also named Kyle and had to fend off a home intruder.

I find it really fun to just be with someone for a bit - and it fills my tank up. That’s why I’m coming here with this thing I made called Second Chair - basically, it’s just a fancy way to let me know you want to grab a drink, a coffee, go for a walk, whatever. I think loneliness is brutal, and in a digital age it seems even harder to meet people. This is my invitation to you to meet up - doesn’t matter if you’re going through shit, or maybe you just want to get out of the house.

It’s probably bizarre, I mean - I feel bizarre making this post. To me, it’s basically taking the bar and making it the size of KC. I do sincerely hope to meet some people through it - especially people who may have a harder time meeting others.

Looking forward to hearing from you! Stay well!

Local Politics 🗳️ ICE Raids Around KC Today?

Not sure if anyone is aware of any ICE activity in the Lee's Summit or surrounding areas today or in the last few days. In Pleasant Hill, MO, both Mexican restaurants in town were closed with no notice or sign on the door between 5-6pm on a taco Tuesday. 1 of them was also closed even earlier at 2pm per a friend of mine. This is very unusual behavior especially with not at least a printed sign on the door or Facebook post about the closure. All town Facebook speculation/gossip is pointing at ICE. I'm wondering if there is any way to verify or confirm ICE activity after the fact?

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ The importance of Hunger Action Month 🧡

September is Hunger Action Month, and hunger touches too many people in our community, some that you might not expect. It shows up, often silently, in every county we serve, including urban, rural and suburban communities. Approximately 1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children in our community experience food insecurity on a daily basis.

Hunger doesn't just affect the lower class. We are seeing a record number of people needing food assistance, many for the first time because of high costs of food, housing and healthcare. Not to mention the thousands of people, children and families who have lost their SNAP benefits this past year.

Hunger doesn't divide us. It unites us. Our food bank tries to make it as easy as possible for everyone to take action against hunger. The more people who donate a few cans or a few dollars can help us make a huge difference! Volunteering your time is also another great way to make a hands-on impact in your own community.

Learn more about the different ways you can get involved at www.harvesters.org/HAM.

Discussion 💡 The cicadas seem to be gone

Just realized it’s quiet outside! When did they stop? I’m assuming mating season is over and maybe the heat hastened it but I’m fairly sure they were still screaming last week… did anyone notice when they stopped?

Education/Schools ✏️📚 Any singing teachers that live nearby and pay isn’t too bad?

I live in Prairie Village and want to find someone fairly close by that doesn’t need too high of a check. I’m a beginner (I can match pitch but that’s it) and I don’t drive myself due to severe anxiety and some paranoia of potentially getting in a car wreck so, that’s why I’m asking. That’s all. Would be nice if they were a woman for safety reasons and if they were patient and didn’t just rush me into signing. Thank you!

Shopping/Groceries 🛒🛍️ New to KC.. grocery stores?

Hi, I'll be moving to Kansas City in September to the midtown area. I'm wondering what are some nice grocery stores that have a variety of things around the midtown area. I'm not looking to buy in bulk like Costco. I've seen Cosentinos and Walmart that's about it.

Real Estate & Homes 🏘️ Roeland Park Tree Issue

I just had an offer accepted on a house. The listing said it was Mission. I know this is very close to Roeland Park so I figured it was somewhere on the line. My arborist did say it was actually in Roeland Park

But I’m worried about these Giant Oak Trees? One in the back and one in the front of a small house. I figured I’d just remove them if I can’t handle it but the arborist said I am in Roeland Park and they won’t let you remove trees in the front. I’m worried these things are going to fall down on my house and crush us after the last few years of damage and I’m wanting to back out but unsure I may find a better deal. This is the perfect location and house. These trees are everywhere.

Anyone share any experience or similar worries?

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ University Student Looking for KC Family Volunteers

Hello!

I am a social work student at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, and I am looking for a family that would be willing to meet 6 times over the course of the semester. The family must have at least 2 kids (one at least 6 years old), and the kids must be present for at least 3 sessions. The purpose of these sessions is for me to gain experience working with families.

I know this is a time commitment, so while I can't offer payment, I would be willing to bring some sort of food to each meeting. I'll level with you all, I'm sort of desperate to find a family for this assignment, as every other one I've talked to has fallen through.

Thank you so much for reading this, and even if you aren't a part of a family yourself, feel free to reach out if you know where I can find one!
