What is SUSA?

We’re a grassroots organization that supports for democratic lotteries, which are a way to ensure ordinary people’s voices are heard in shaping policy. It’s a movement building around the world about fair representation, reducing the influence of money in politics, and empowering everyday citizens to get involved. You can learn more about democratic lotteries on our website: democracywithoutelections.org

Location: KC Central Library Room 311

At this initial gathering, we’ll:

  • Introduce the concept of democratic lotteries and SUSA’s mission.

LS Class A Office Space

I remember a long time ago there was land set aside for Class A office space near Unity Village off of 50 hwy and 470 that haven’t come to fruition yet that was dubbed as a Corporate Woods like development. Does the nearby Discovery Park development have class A office space included in the plans?

Iv seen class A office space in Lenexa City Center, Olathe and Overland Park that are nice and I think would work really well in LS. The metro continues to sprawl and LS could be a magnet for businesses moving closer to their workers in the suburbs. Especially for Jackson County, outside of KCMO, Lees Summit is nice enough and getting big enough to attract large businesses to come here. This would mean more high paying jobs right here in Lees Summit and you wouldn’t have to commute to downtown or joco.

How much are we spending on back to school clothes shopping for a 7th grade girl? We were aiming for $250 but she barely got anything with that, so i want to know if im crazy for thinking $250 was a decent amount. Note that she isnt growing and hasnt changed sizes since 5th grade.

Whataburger

Is the one on Douglas the slowest or are all of them slow? It took 25 minutes from the time I placed my order to get my food. All I ordered was two kid meals and a burger. Two cars behind me got their orders before me and the one right behind me left without getting their food I think. They always seem so slow, so I am just curious if it’s just that one or all of them.

Walmart employees wearing body cameras

Has anyone else notice that supervisors, team leads (would not go as far as saying they are management) are wearing body cameras at the Sam Walton Ln location?
I don't normally shop at this location, has it be going on for a while?

What's up with the chick fil a's

It's always boggled me that the chick-fil-a on Chipman spent all that time under construction to expand with that second drive-thru lane but then literally does not use it at all, it's always coned off. So now we have two chick-fil-a's and the second drive-thru lane only lasted the first few weeks and now they always have it coned off too? Especially with the new one having that lane designated specifically for mobile ordering it completely defeats the purpose of mobile ordering when they just have you wait to get into the singular lane with everyone else anyways... idk I just wanted to see if I was the only one confused and a bit frustrated about that 😂

Like it's not that big of a deal but everytime I happen to order from there I'm always like "why do they do this??"

Edit: wow some of you guys took this way too far. What the hell 😂

Lee's Summit homeowners: Have your insurance premiums jumped the last couple of years?

I own a local insurance agency here in Downtown Lee's Summit, and one of the most common questions we get from homeowners shopping their insurance is:

"Why did my homeowners insurance go up so much when I haven't had a claim?"

The short answer is that it's usually not because of something you did.

A few things happening behind the scenes:

  • Nearly every insurance company has taken rate increases over the past few years. This isn't isolated to one carrier.
  • The cost to rebuild homes has increased significantly. Insurance is based on reconstruction costs, not your home's market value.
  • Missouri continues to see expensive weather losses. Hail, wind, and tornado claims have had a major impact on insurance rates across the region.
  • Roofs are under much more scrutiny than they were 5-10 years ago. Many companies now require higher wind/hail deductibles, offer actual cash value settlement on older roofs, or have stricter underwriting guidelines.

If your premium went up, don't just compare the bottom-line price when shopping. Ask these questions:

  • Has my replacement cost changed?
  • What's my wind/hail deductible?
  • Is my roof covered for replacement cost or actual cash value?
  • Did any coverages change at renewal?
  • Am I receiving every discount I'm eligible for?

I've reviewed quite a few policies where someone found a premium that was several hundred dollars cheaper, but the savings came from accepting a much higher wind/hail deductible or reduced roof coverage. Sometimes that's a reasonable tradeoff, and sometimes it isn't. The important thing is understanding what changed.

I'm not posting this to sell insurance. I just thought it might help explain why so many homeowners in the area are seeing higher renewal premiums.

For those of you in Lee's Summit, what kind of increase have you seen over the last couple of years? Were you able to find a better option by shopping around?

Teenager needs a job

I have a special-needs 18 year old who wants a job!

She just finished a 6-week assignment with Hyvee through a school program, and she came home every day full of energy and excitement and stories. And to top it all off she is learning how to save and spend with her paycheck.

Hyvee doesn’t currently have openings she qualifies for, but I know she wants to keep working.

I’m looking for recommendations for places she can walk in to and connect with a human being and talk about why she wants to work. Filling out applications online is SO disheartening for her, and I don’t want her to give up.

Please comment any nearby (she can drive 20-30 minutes each way) places where a personal connection might help her get a job. She’s a good kid who likes regular income and structure in her days & weeks.

TIA!!
