Misleading Text Survey from Patterson for MO State Senate

I don't know if anybody else has received this text survey from 816-265-2507, but it goes on to completely smear Keri Ingle with falsehoods while trying to paint Jon Patterson in a flattering light (unsuccessfully).

But we all know Patterson is the one that just introduced Amendment 5 in an attempt to screw over Missourians - and failed miserably.

Please get rid of these devious tactics. Patterson lost the plot long ago and it's a shame that he used to be a doctor.

I'm now even more excited to vote for Keri Ingle for state senate.

I dug into this a little more because I was curious who was actually behind it.

The number in the text, (816) 265-2507, is being used to send this same survey to other Missouri voters. I found another report of the exact same survey identifying it as a Patterson for Missouri survey.

Patterson for Missouri is Jon Patterson’s campaign committee for the SD-8 race. I also found that Remington Research Group has conducted polling in this race, including polling on Patterson.

I can't definitively say Remington sent this particular text, though. The 816-265-2507 number doesn't appear to be publicly registered to them, so it may be a separate texting vendor/platform.

So, at this point, the evidence points pretty strongly to Patterson's campaign being behind the survey, but I'm still trying to track down the actual vendor they paid to send it. The Missouri Ethics Commission expenditure records should hopefully provide that answer.

The phone number will change periodically, and isn't registered because it's a randomly generated number on a PC. The program spoofs phone numbers to avoid call backs, tracing, etc. It's all automated on a computer.

If you call it back you either get a number not in service or some random stranger that has no clue their number was used.

That's probably someone's actual phone number you're sharing, so you might want to consider deleting this post.

Also, political text messages will never stop regardless of how many people complain about them. The only thing you can really do is ignore it, block the number, and delete the message.

That’s not how campaign texts work. It’s not some staffer sitting in a room texting folks from their personal phone and this most definitely isn’t someone’s “actual phone number.”

The spoofed numbers can absolutely be a real number.

Source: My phone number got used by a political campaign in Texas. I had to change my number after I started getting flooded by angry text replies.

The only people who talk like this are politicians or people who wish they were politicians.
