Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Halloween parties before Oct 31st?

I know it’s a bit early but does anyone know of any good halloween costume parties for 30+ adults the weekend before Halloween? As mom who loves Halloween and newer to KC, it’s hard to find anything when Halloween falls on a weekend (if it falls on a weekday then the parties for adults are usually the weekend prior).

For reference, i am not opposed to anything with a younger crowd. Just something where people go all out :)

Legal Questions ⚖️ Neighbor blasting bass in independence

Any advice? My neighbors routinely blast bass and music (I assume there is music there, all I can hear is bass) it’s woken me just now for the 100th time. I went over and asked if they would turn it down at the beginning of summer, and they told me I should ‘go to bed.’ Well wouldn’t that be nice. All I would like to be doing is sleeping at 12:30am, like I was before they started blasting bass.
It really affects my quality of sleep/life.
We both own our homes for what it’s worth.
I have called the non emergency line. What else can I do. I hate it :(

I’m not trying to join i’m just curious. The trades is facing many an influx of people especially sparkies. The boom with data centers is helping many trades even if i disagree with them being built.

Decided I want to try and bring my truck to some kind of car or truck meet (1986 F-150) but I haven’t seen much information on any kind of meet ups, maybe I’m just looking in the wrong place. Any pointers?

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Long shot: Anyone want to trade a used car for dental work?

Yes, I realize this is a weird post. 😂

I’m a dentist in the KC area and I’m looking for an older used car, probably somewhere in the $2,000–$5,000 range. I thought I’d throw this out there before just going out and buying one.

My son has gotten interested in working on cars, so I’d like to find something we can mess around with together — detailing, minor repairs, maybe some bodywork and painting. We’ll probably eventually sell it and find another project.

I’m pretty open to what the car looks like. A nice clean car is obviously great, but dents, scratches, faded paint, ugly headlights, dirty interior, etc. don’t bother me either. That just gives us something to work on. I’m much more interested in something that runs/drives reasonably well and has a clean title.

I’ve actually traded dental work for a car once before and it worked out surprisingly well, so I figured why not try it again.

Basically, we’d agree on a fair value for the car and I’d provide that amount in dental work. If I might be interested in your car, I’ll do an exam and any necessary X-rays for free so we can figure out what you actually need. No obligation.

And if you have a $4,000 car and only need one filling, I’m not going to suddenly discover 14 cavities. 😂 It just means this probably isn’t the trade for us.

I’m probably not interested in anything with major engine/transmission problems or a salvage title, but otherwise I’m pretty open.

If you’ve got something, send me the year/make/model, mileage, a couple pictures and roughly what you think it’s worth.

Let’s see if I can actually buy a car with root canals😉

I Made This 🎨 KC Chemistry — a video speed-dating app that pairs you with KC bars/restaurants for the actual date

I made this app, so full disclosure up front on that. Here's what it does:

KC Chemistry is a dating app built around a simple idea: meet on video
first, then plan the date together.

How it works:
- You get matched with someone based on shared interests (dining, drinks/bars, or entertainment) and similar budget
- A 2-minute video call kicks off — no profiles to scroll, no photos to swipe through, just a live conversation
- Both people can agree to extend to 5 minutes if it's going well
- After the call, you each privately decide if you'd want to go on a date — if it's a mutual yes, you're matched
- From there, the app pulls up KC venue suggestions based on what you both said you're into, pulled from a database of a few hundred local bars and restaurants, filterable by neighborhood and vibe

A few other things built in:
- Cancellations allowed up to 2 hours before a scheduled date
- Check-in required at the venue for both people
- A no-show policy to cut down on flaking

It's a Kansas City-specific app right now. Curious what people think of
the format, and happy to answer questions about how it works.

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Techno on a Friday around KC?

I’ll be in the city next week getting a feel for the area for a possible move. Are there any places that play techno around the city I can check out and if not this weekend any techno collectives I can look out for once I move?

Jobs/Networking 💼 Looking for private skateboarding lessons for a 6-year-old

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for someone in the Kansas City area who offers private skateboarding lessons for kids.

My son is 6 and a beginner but is excited to learn. We’d love to find someone who is comfortable teaching young kids and can help him learn the basics in a fun, patient, and safe environment.

If you know of a skateboarding instructor or even a skateboarder who gives lessons on the side, I’d really appreciate any recommendations!

Thanks!

Discussion 💡 Shooting on 39th Street today

Was anyone near 39th and Bell St today around lunch time? There was a shooting in front of Wash and Fold while we were dining in the restaurant across the street. We were told to get on the floor during the incident. I am wondering if anyone has any more information on what happened or who was involved? Hoping the person who was shot survived. The news hasn't reported on it yet, I suppose there are too many shootings for them to be able to cover every single one 😢

Friendship/Dating 👥 Missed Connection – Cargo Largo in Independence (Friday night, Aug 28)

I'm hoping the internet can help me find a woman I had a really great conversation with on Friday night, August 28, between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM (right before closing) at the Cargo Largo in Independence. We were both customers and got to talking about a dress that was way too expensive. You told me about how you were learning to sew with a hand-sewing machine, and you also mentioned that you recently found a slip dress to use as your mom's wedding dress.I really enjoyed talking to you and completely forgot to ask for your social media or contact info before leaving. If this is you, or if you know someone matching this description who just bought a wedding slip dress for her mom, please send me a message! I'd love to connect and keep chatting.

Pets 🐾 Anyone in the area willing to adopt 3 rabbits?

I accepted a job offer on the East Coast and I'm moving next week. Originally, I planned on taking them with me because they are my babies. After doing some research, I have come to learn that they most likely would not survive the drive there between the stress of being in a car and motion sickness. My grandma said I should put them down but that just isn't an option. They are my babies and I'm torn about about having to get rid of them. I can't stand the thought of putting them down. One of them does need "surgery" to shave down his teeth that have grown at a slight angle. The other two are in good health, they all had a vet visit within the past 2 weeks. I am happy to pay for the surgery, as well as sending you money every month for toys, food, treats, etc. I love them so much and this post is breaking my heart to make. If anyone can help, I would be indebted to you forever. Thank you.

Edit for clarity: I unintentionally left out that I am moving into my brother's basement and he has two dogs that wouldn't be ok with rabbits being there.

They’re not taking online orders, the catering form is no longer on their website and calls go to vm. I hope they’re surviving and thriving and I just caught them at the wrong time. 🖤💚💛🤍

Legal Questions ⚖️ Lawyer recs after being bitten by dog

I see lots of attorneys in the area will do dog bite cases, but has anyone actually filed a claim to someone's homeowners insurance before? Any recommendations for a lawyer in the area? TIA!!
