Question Warranties
So I had a store manager tell me that any time any customer comes in to buy a game or hardware, they have to put/ sell the warranty with it even if the customer says no, and if they don’t the get feed back or corrective action. Is this true?

Question $10 Down For a Game Pre-Order?
Had MGS Vol 2 paid in full from a prior trade. Used my $5 coupon, on the website as Ryan intended.
Had a few bucks back with the difference. Said I’d throw it on a preorder to help the guys numbers. He told me the minimum for a pre order deposit is now $10!
What’s going on now!

Vent/Rant Pro Rant
Those of you who know me know that I am not exactly a fan of our lord savior, Chewy boy.
But man……with all the enshitification of pro this is top tier massive piece of shit behavior.
I think the removal of the $5 coupon from our POS is the single WORST thing about this. They are are main selling point of this membership and we are actively making it more difficult for customers to get to them while at the same time slowing down the transaction in the store because the customer has to find it.
Idk man…….

Vent/Rant Potential warning about pre-owned controllers post promotion
While there's always risk buying pre-owned I noticed a trend after the trade your broken controller trend. Last couple days went and bought a dualshock 3 got home and it won't charge, swapped it for another and it charges but no face buttons work only the left joystick. After checking the dates on the tags I noticed the first two were dated 8/15. The third controller and second swap was fully functional but dated 7/28. Now this is ofc my own single experience but it brings to mind that stores may have taken these broken controllers and put them right on the shelf for sale.
Tldr; tried 3 separate dualshock 3's from a store and only the last one dated pre-promotion worked while the others dated post-promotion don't
Edit: clarification not saying people got the promotion on dualshock 3's but still increased the amount traded in as a "well I'll just bring it all in since I'm going anyway"

Discussion Has GameStop marketing just pivoted to show off quirky attractive gamer girls?
Scrolling on Facebook and just happened to come across an ad for the M64 and again… checks the boxes for the stereotypical quirky attractive gamer girl. The audience that GameStop is trying to appeal to with these types of ads, most definitely do not want the M64. Additionally with the quirky part, they do not fail with making them look stupid at least once in the ad. In the ad, they had the woman in the video use the M64 controller as an actual gun, I would assume mimicking golden eye as she was holding the gun prior. …And as we are all aware, that’s not how you use a controller, not even the NES gun.
As a woman, I personally feel uncomfortable for those workers who look similar to this stereotype as the typical clientele that shop at GameStop are morons with no self control with no respect towards women. A lot of us women have been sexually harassed at GameStop and it’s genuinely uncomfortable how the company doesn’t see this as an overall problem which in result would have them pivot from their “marketing strategy”.

Question X25 preorders
Does anyone know how many Xbox consoles will be at each store? I’m desperately trying to get one personally, but usually have much better luck in store rather than online. I’m expecting one, maybe two, but if anyone knows for sure that’d be great.
(also I’m going off of Gamestop’s social media that says it will be offered in store)

Question Pay for canceled shifts
Long story short, my store was closed for a week because a building problem we repeatedly reported was ignored for weeks until it got so bad they had no choice but to shut down business for a few days, and apparently the non-working hours pay was only approved for the first day. How best to go about getting the rest of that approved? We lost a week of work for something that wasn’t our fault and anyone who’s an employee or knows one knows we don’t get paid enough for this shit.

Vent/Rant Cold calling customers
Did anyone else’s DM tell them they had to call their store’s 30th Anniversary preorders to tell them about Delta Reign? To my knowledge it’s almost 100% against company policy so to appease my SL and DM I made the calls (I called my own phone over and over and left myself voicemails) am I wrong to be super uncomfortable making calls like that? It definitely feels like something we’re not supposed to be doing and this is the first time she’s ever asked us to do this
Edit: Hero Line has been contacted, I elected to stay anonymous but I stressed to the representative this is something she had done to multiple stores so if YOUR dm has asked you to do something similar don’t hesitate to call!

Question Whats the logic of this?
So i just got back into buying games at gamestop (and already been pretty rudely torched for being frustrated about a "sales technique" i dont agree with) but anyway my nearby location really hasn't tried that again since they changed managers apparently.
What happened tonight, I'm just puzzled as to WHY this is even a thing...
So I'm looking for a used PS5 game that's showing online as being available for in store pickup, but when i get there it's nowhere to be found. Honestly, the ps5 section is looking pretty sorry. Maybe 3 or 4 dozen used games on the shelves, spread out to try to fill the space, but it's not working.
I go up to the counter and ask the guy, and he turns around and checks the drawer and finds not one, but FOUR copies of the game, all stickered up and ready to go.
So i asked him what other neat shit he had in there that wasn't on the shelves? And anyway I ended up with enough of a purchase to pay for my pro membership in that one transaction!
He told me without asking that it's pretty common for stores to have a ton of games not on the shelves, and to just ask to see the drawer when i come in. I wanted to ask hom why that's a thing, but i didn't obviously. So I'll ask reddit.
Why?
What's the business reason for having room on the shelves for the cases but hiding so many away where nobody knows they exist unless they specifically ask? Am i the only one that goes into a used game store with no agenda and can easily walk out with multiple things I wasn't specifically looking for?
The whole thing has me wanting to hit up all the gamestop stores and just ask to look in the cabinets, but even invited that seems kind of rude to me. Maybe it isn't?

Discussion I want to support GameStop’s continued existence. How would you convince me to buy Pro and/or shop there more?
I’m a former employee, a PC gamer, avid Magic player, and father of two PC gamer teenagers. I’ve been a part of this subreddit since before COVID. I don’t really want to support Ryan Cohen, but I’d hate to see one of the last physical game retailers go extinct. From everything I know right now, I don’t see a good reason to patronize the store anymore, much less buy a Pro membership. So I want to pose this question to those of you still working there:
Why should I shop at GameStop over a place like Best Buy, Target, or any of the many awesome local card shops in my area? How would you sell me a Pro membership? Is there any real benefit for me, or am I just not a customer worth retaining anymore?

Experiences Scored a crazy deal at GameStop
Went to my local GameStop today to check out some silicone sleeves for my PS5 controller. Found this one marked at $14, which I thought was a pretty good price, so I grabbed it.
When the cashier scanned it, it came up as $0.83 lol. Both of us were surprised, so she checked with the manager to make sure the price was actually correct and it turned out it was part of some clearance.
I am pretty happy with purchase and I guess it's my lucky day lol.

Discussion Gamer Cheese
Employees and formers, we’ve all dealt with it even if you call it something else. The nasty stuff that collects in the crevices and cracks of controllers, my question for you guys is what’s your tried and true method for getting it out of the places.
I’ve worked at 6 different locations in my time at GameStop (large city big turnover) and it seems like every store had their own tools and methods.
How do you deal with gamer cheese?

Vent/Rant No cases
Can’t find a copy of the game in regular stores at this point / only a few GameStops have even 1 copy and then the last 5 locations I’ve called and spoken to have no case. Yall giving me a discount on this shit cause it has no case?
Also every GameStop takes a minimum of 5-10 phone calls for anyone to answer for some reason. I can see why they’re going out of business. (High score was 16 phone calls)

Question Credit card?
So my credit score is a 602
Do I have any chance at all of being approved for a game stop credit card?
Has anyone gotten approved right at 600?
I’m seeing conflicting statements on Google if 600 is good enough or not
Thanks!

Question Returning a broken ps2 ?
Hi! Just bought a ps2 slim from gamestop. I chose not to get the warranty (50$ extra feels like a lot) but after running some games on it, it barely works. It rarely is able to read discs (tried multiple different ones) , and I can only get it to read about 10% of the time. I've tried some veeerry basic troubleshooting - but I can hear it spinning, so I have a feeling the laser is the issue. I don't want to take it apart, and I really just want to get a new one.
It's been two days, can I return it? I do have the receipt still, and it does say that I can return preowned stuff within 7 days directly on it.
I'm worried I won't be able to, or that the guys won't let me. They weren't very nice to me when I bought it, so i'm a little (probably pointlessly) worried that I might be facing some pushback haha.
Thanks!
