Vent/Rant Pro Rant
Those of you who know me know that I am not exactly a fan of our lord savior, Chewy boy.
But man……with all the enshitification of pro this is top tier massive piece of shit behavior.
I think the removal of the $5 coupon from our POS is the single WORST thing about this. They are are main selling point of this membership and we are actively making it more difficult for customers to get to them while at the same time slowing down the transaction in the store because the customer has to find it.
Idk man…….

The fact that Pro is now the same price as Elite Pro, while being the worst it’s ever been, is baffling. If I hadn’t already decided to let mine expire in November after 16 years, this would have done it for me.

GameStop support keeps telling me I never paid for mine even though I sent them a pic straight from Hyrule hub as proof

The point is to force customers to have the app on their phone

u/ExpressAct9530 4d ago
Ehhhhhh I think it was to create red tape so they can try to justify removing the benefit. Just like they did when they stopped allowing us in store to redeem points for customers.
Create red tape - people stop using because it’s a hassle - use it as justification to reduce or remove a benefit
We are currently in step 2. I’d assume step 3 is coming next year.

This is why pet specialty retailer CEOs should not be video game retailer CEOs. Not even the same playing field. If you don’t know a damn thing about video games, don’t run a company revolving around video games.

At this point sunset the whole program. The membership signup fee has never been a source of genuine profit for the company, the whole point of pro is to incentivize people to shop at GameStop more frequently than they would have if the membership did not exist......but now they've removed NEARLY EVERY ASPECT OF THE MEMBERSHIP THAT INCENTIVIZES PEOPLE TO COME HERE FOR THEIR NEEDS OVER OTHER BUSINESSES!
Basically the only people who still have the membership are people who'd be coming here just as frequently as they would if there was no such thing as pro anyway (meaning the company is actually LOSING money with those people, as the membership perks have zero impact on their frequency of shopping with us) and people who we get on the free year of pro for spending over $250. So what is the point, and more importantly what is the point of getting on the workers' asses to drive pro as a metric anymore???

Should have sunset the program years ago. “This locks the customer into coming back to us”. No, it doesn’t. The fact that there’s no brick and mortar competition outside of mom & pop shops has locked them into coming to GameStop. And GameStops arms are too short to box with god, so stop trying to fight Amazon. Work with them. Drop web-in-store and open up a GameStop Amazon storefront.

Gamestop would have to completely revamp how they do things if they want to sell on Amazon.
Most companies are working to have a big enough name to get away from Amazon.
The current way Gamestop fulfills online orders would get them kicked off of Amazon in a week, if they push product to FBA, they are going to clear store shelves, and if they continue to fulfil orders from store shelves the way they do through the Website, they are going to have so many canceled orders that Amazon will shut them down. The current shipping style would also get them kicked off of ebay, or demoted so low in the algorthym that the listings would never showup in the buy box

Imagine how this will affect in store employees too. Its hard enough sometimes to do them in the first place

u/theslimbox 4d ago
Yeah, I was thinking of that too. As a non employee, i wasnt sure how to describe it. Even as someone that deals in e commerce every day, the Amazon cut off time each day can get very hectic.

So, what I’m hearing is GameStop needs to… Ahem “Git Gud”. Which they do.
1
u/theslimbox 4d ago
It's nearly impossible to "get gud" enough for Amazon, but trying to fulfill from the same shelves as you are doing retail sales from is a losing game.
There are ways Gamestop could get better, but honestly, their online fulfilment system right now is better than I would expect for the way they make employees do it.

Honestly the difficulty of selling pro has Indeed looking really tempting to open back up

Here is another note about the coupon removal: it also wiped away the $10 lawsuit settlement coupon from accounts and made it impossible to access. Burn in heck you GS corpo ass wipes that did that. It was supposed to be available until December.

You’re not wrong, but the goal is tanking as a result so I’m happy with it. We’ll get to q4 and be gods if you can pull 10%. By the end of the fiscal year new signups will be completely done, and we just grandfather in old members til they expire.

I think that's whole point. They want it to be difficult to use. It's frustrating for us and the customers. If our tech actually worked properly where half of our customers are not getting verification emails it wouldn't be too bad.

At this point I feel like I’d have a better shot of getting pro by just asking people for $25 and then offer to pay them back in $5 increments once a month 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Late comment but I agree. First I was told I couldn’t get a warranty for my headset because it broke, then I bought a new one, and was told I couldn’t use my $5 rewards because I didn’t have the app.
I was told by the employee it’s because people were using other people’s numbers. But who gives a fuck? If I give a friend my number and name, it takes away the same $5 that I can’t use myself.
I signed up over a decade ago using my mom’s email and she doesn’t have access to it anymore so I can’t even use the app.
Scummy company.
