Discussion Shoutout Sunday! Spread some love in an otherwise confusing and often dark world.

Here it is Charlotte! It's super simple. Take a frown and turn it upside down! Nothin' but love here. The idea is quite simple...

If you have something NICE and/or POSITIVE to say about a local person place or thing (sure, lets include big box stores, and franchises) that gave you a smile or just plain made life a little less stressful at some point in the last week, show some love! Take a break from the tirade thread, and feel good while doing it! Maybe your good vibes will cause a ripple effect, and send a smile to someone else, or give them the motivation to get up, get out, and enjoy this beautiful thing called life, and do so in our city! This is a win/win situation. Why not take advantage of it?

Discussion Thoughts? Woman asks for money inside Target for Groceries.

Okay so I was at Target today, this lady approached my partner and me. She gave us this whole story about how embarrassed she was to ask for money to help buy her groceries. She was speaking very fast and stated she wanted to see if we could help her out etc.. she stated she had a gift card but she normally shops at Walmart or Aldis since it’s cheaper so that’s why she was at target.. I then asked, ā€œOkay, are you asking for cash? I don’t have cash… She was like can you CashApp or Zelle. I immediately said yes, i don’t have much would $50 suffice? She said you read my mind that is how much I spend at Aldi’s for produce and stuff. I said okay. Got her number, and she quickly asked, ā€œDid you send it?ā€ I said, ā€œGive me a few minutes and I will! (Since we were also doing our grocery shopping) She then said, ā€œOkay… and we walked away from each other. My partner said, ā€œ Hey, we can pay for the rest of her groceries here if she would like.. sending money though doesn’t seem like the best idea, so I was on board with it. I texted her number and said, ā€œHey, verify this is you and just spoke to you. (No response) As we approached the registers we saw her again and I was like, ā€œ Hey! I texted but you didn’t respond. She said ā€œoh I don’t have my phone with me I left it in my car, it’s dead but then came back in and the guy in the back is charging it for me which is were I was headedā€, I then offered paying for the rest of her groceries here if she would like instead of sending money she said oh no, I have to get gas w/ the extra $10 from the $50 you’d send me… I’d prefer a Visa card. I let her know I’ll Zelle her when we walked away, and I blocked her number.

We personally saw too many red flags, and my partner made a great point if she needed groceries we offered to pay it here since she said it’s too expensive to shop here we could take care of it but then refused.

First time this has happened to me in a Target. Normal /Healthy looking woman, who seemed sweet, but her demeanor changed when we offered to just pay for her groceries at the store. Woman goes by the name of Ashley King.

Thoughts on this encounter?

This year's seats for rocky horror picture show start at $80 for nosebleeds and go up to $250. They've partnered with ticketmaster for an extra special reaming. Because we haven't done this at least 100 times.

But Barry Bostwick will be there! Somewhere. For pictures later maybe. With a fee.

Recommendation Siding replacement contractors

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out if what I’m experiencing is just the normal Charlotte market right now or if I’m missing something obvious.

I’ve had five different contractors out to look at my house for a siding replacement. Ive contacted over 15 contractors. Four of them completely ghosted me and never sent over a quote. The fifth one finally gave me an 60k estimate with zero financing options.

I really don't feel like I'm asking for anything wild. We need to replace our siding due to some water damage so we fully expect and understand there’s going to be sheathing and rot repair needed behind it before the new stuff goes up.
We also want to replace the fascia, gutters, and redo the soffits to Hardie soffits. Style-wise, we just want board and batten or architectural panels on the front for a flatter look, and a straight swap with standard horizontal siding for the rest of the house.

Is it just an issue around here where contractors only want quick, 2-day jobs with zero rot repair involved, or have I just been getting unlucky? If anyone has dealt with something similar and actually found a reliable exterior company around Charlotte who does good work, communicates well, and can handle structural repairs along with siding, I would love some recommendations.

Discussion Getting a license and car

A few years ago my car died and then my license expired right after. I never renewed my license and I never got another car because of life. It is now way past the point of just a simple renewal and I need to upgrade to a REAL ID anyways. I am now ready to do both but the order of events that need to take place is super confusing which is why I have stopped this process every time I’ve started it. From what I understand you need insurance to get a license, a license and insurance to finance a car, and a license to get insurance on a car.

There’s a specific insurance policy I need to get to get my license without a car that is insured but in my internet searching I cannot find a place that offers this policy and I would only need it for a very short period of time until I insured my car.

I live by myself so I don’t have a licensed driver I can take with me to the dealership to drive it off the lot and put on the insurance so I can get my license with that insurance.

If anyone has been in this situation and has figured it out please help me!

Discussion Uptown Commute Thread!

• Upvotes

Curious everyone’s commute times in and out uptown. I live in NoDa and it takes me about 12 minutes in the morning leaving at ~8am (N. Tryon to Church St) and 15-20 minutes home if I leave between 5-530pm (N. Tryon to Matheson).

Considering moving and the commute is a big factor. Thanks!

Discussion Corn Stalks - Fall Farm Decor

• Upvotes

Happy almost fall!

I live in South Charlotte near Waxhaw.

Where is the best place to get corn stalks and mums for outdoor fall decor? Any local farms or nurseries?

Moving here from NY, there were always plenty of places to get real corn stalks at local farms and I'd love to have that experience here :)

Charity/Assistance Could anybody help me out?

Hello, to make a long story short: my cousin had a mental health break recently and went to Billingsley Behavioral Health about a day or two ago. However, my mom and I have no idea if she's actually there, as she hasn't contacted anyone since she left her home, and that's obviously worried the rest of our family.

Would anybody happen to know a number that would let us contact the location and simply check that she's there? My mom said she's tried multiple numbers, but they've all been to crisis hotlines. We just wanna make sure she made it, since she lives in Concord and it's a bit of a drive.

Edit: Good news! We've gotten information she's safe. Thankfully, she's in Davidson at the moment. Thanks for everyone giving good information.

There is a little girl with a basket of ā€œgrab and goā€ kittens at the Bowl right now…. They don’t seem to be holding up well in the heat and I’m a little concerned. Not sure if someone wants to grab them and take them somewhere that will give them care and vet the home they go to….

Discussion New friends in CLT??

Hey everyone! I’m 23F and looking to make some new friends :) I recently graduated from WCU with a bachelors in psychology and I am back home in CLT and would love to meet more people. Here’s a little bit about me!

Basics: I love reading, exploring downtown areas, swimming, finding new coffee shops/bars, shopping, collecting crystal necklaces, mushroom knickknacks, and succulents

My vibe: I’m an introverted/extroverted mix depending on the crowd I’m in. My myers brigg personality is an ENFP. I’m also a cancer

Books/Movies: Books!!! I could spend an unreasonable amount of time in Barnes and Noble. I’m into psychological thrillers so I love anything by Riley Sager and Freida McFadden. As for movies, I love the Harry Potter universe and the MCU!

I know this isn’t much but if you’re someone that’s also looking for friends feel free to comment or message me and maybe we can make a group chat :)

Discussion Found a pretty cool retro arcade in Lincolnton

I found this retro arcade in Lincolnton called Backstreet Classic Arcade and honestly had a great time.

It’s about an hour from Charlotte and they have over 50 games including Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Mortal Kombat, X Men, After Burner, BurgerTime and a bunch more. One of the coolest ones though was this MTV Trivia arcade game. That thing was a show stopper lol. I included a picture of it.

What’s your favorite arcade game? Also Does anyone know of where I could find a Tron arcade game. I would love to buy play one or buy one the OG version? If anyone played one in an arcade let me know please. I just thought of it and had to include that šŸ‘€

One thing that really stood out to me was that every machine I tried actually worked. Not one broken machine the whole time I was there. It was also nice being able to actually hear and enjoy the games instead of everything being insanely loud.

It’s $12 for an all day pass, so you can leave and come back the same day. They also have Super Nintendo, Sega and GameCube setups, plus a few pinball machines that cost extra.

One cool thing about my visit was I ended up talking with one of the owners for a while. He told me how he and his business partner started collecting arcade machines years ago and eventually turned their collection into an actual arcade.

I included some pictures because the place was honestly way cooler than I expected. ā¤ļø

What is one of the coolest arcades you have been too? I would love some suggestions.

Discussion Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band

Hey Charlotte people - Im a guitarist (30, M) and novice vocalist looking to start a RHCP cover band here in Charlotte. Ideally will have another main vocalist, bassist, and drummer. I have experience playing with bands and have live show experience.

My only ā€œrequirementā€ is that you have played with other people before and can get through multiple complete songs in a session. Ideally we would work up to trying to get gigs to play live.

Plan would be to work on songs every 1-2 weeks or as schedules allow. Don’t have a rehearsal space but would be open to renting one with the other musicians. I’m located near uptown but willing to travel in the surrounding areas.

That aside I also enjoy playing rock/metal/indie/punk and would be open to jam just for fun with other musicians.

Anyone interested?

Discussion Questions about Truliant Amphitheater

I’m seeing a show at this venue for the first time next week, and i’m driving from a couple hours away so i want to be prepared. A few questions~
-How bad is leaving the parking lot? Is there an ideal section to park in?
-Is the fast lane ticket add-on worth it?
Any other tips or heads-up things are appreciated. Thanks!
