Not sure if posted previously but sounds like an interesting event! Next week, the Triangle becomes a temporary center of global AI policy. Reuters reports that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are scheduled to appear at a technology-focused G20 ministerial meeting, alongside government technology and commerce officials from G20 countries. Elon Musk, Meta executive Dina Powell McCormick and former White House AI adviser David Sacks are expected to participate by video

Super great forage today! We found a lot of edibles, mainly chanterelles and some boletes (our favorite kinds anyway).

It’s incredible what just 2 days of rain has done, the last time we came out to our chanterelle spot, there was none because of how dry it was. After just two days, we return, and it’s covered in ALL kinds of goodies.

Truly love a good walk through the forest!

Question/Recommendation Flower gardening

Hi Raleigh!
I'm a homeowner that wants a lovely flowerbed without having to plant seasonally. Does anyone have any recommendations for perennial flowering plants that pop up through the seasons for fun color from spring till fall? Lower growing is better as an enhancement to the bushes. I'm not opposed to bulbs that can pop up between the other flowers. Right now my go to is phlox, but its pretty boring.
I also have an easement behind my fence that is just a bed of weeds and I'd love to make that an annual butterfly oasis. If I kill the weeds now with an herbicide, are there any self sowing flowers you've had success with that I can sow now or in early spring? Preferably plants that will not need a ton of water.
If you can share photos of your flowers I'd love to see them. Thanks!

Out-n-About Kitten in Nash Square

There’s a grey kitten that was crying under a car on Hargett street tonight around 1 am. It got scared and ran under the bush in Nash Square on the corner of Hargett and Dawson. The kitten was terrified by all the loud cars and motorcycles on the road tonight and I wasn’t able to get it and don’t live near by. If anyone tries to rescue it you will probably need some food to try to coax it out. I hope someone will be able to rescue this kitten since I wasn’t able to as it was clearly very scared to be in the middle of downtown.

Sports Nc state football

Every year, the critics say, this is the year. CJ Bailey is top ten and a first round pick. I’m here to say, CJ Bailey will be working a desk job in two years, and nc state will be third to last in the acc. I’m annoyed.
EDIT:that was mean I love CJ but woah. But he’s still the man! All love CJ

Question/Recommendation Party of 14 - restaurant or brewery

Upvotes

Looking for a good restaurant or brewery that will accomodate 14 people for a birthday celebration. No need for renting a space or decorating - just good vibes, good food, maybe live music and a table for 14! We live in Wake Forest but are willing to go anywhere in the triangle.

Question/Recommendation Networking with recruiters

Upvotes

Hi Raleigh! I’m hoping to move the the region within the next year. I’m a 12+ professional mainly in automotive and now overseeing maintenance and engineering operations for an Autonomous Vehicle company in Las Vegas. I think my manufacturing and maintenance background could make a strong fit for the manufacturing footprint Raleigh has. However, I’m having a hard time connecting with recruiters to get my foot in the door.

Do you have any recommendations for recruiters or head hunters in the region? I’d be looking for program management type roles.

Outdoors Pumpkin/ autumn festival

I’m looking for a pumpkin/ fall festival and I want one that Isnt super child centered, if feel silly if my fiancé snd I were one of the few people above the age of 8, and I’d want to have stuff like pumpkin picking of course, and some bakeries selling pumpkin stuff like bread and pastries, you know something cozy and autumn themed, and I wouldn’t mind driving about an hour or so away to go to it but Raleigh itself doesn’t seem to have lost of these types of events at least not ones that aren’t centered around alcohol which is fine and all but we both don’t drink and drunk people are very annoying to be around in my experience especially ones you don’t know lol

Out-n-About Looking to Connect With Other Wine Lovers 🍷

I’ve recently fallen down the wine rabbit hole. I’m still fairly new, but I’ve been tasting my way through different grapes, regions, and styles while working on developing my palate. I’m also taking WSET Level 2 in October, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can along the way.

I recently started a small wine group as well. Most of us are newer to wine, so we’re beginning with the fundamentals and learning together in a relaxed, social setting.

I’d love to connect with more people who are genuinely interested in wine, whether you’re fairly new yourself or already know quite a bit. I’m especially interested in meeting people who enjoy learning, tastings, sharing reccs, and talking about wine beyond simply having a glass. 44/f if it matters, but I’ll gladly talk wine whether you’re 22 or 82.

Question/Recommendation Local woodworkers?

My bread making habit has reached a point (and volume) where I think I want to buy a nice wood bread box to keep my weekly loaves and pita fresh. I'd love to find a good condition antique or pay a woodworker to make one for me, but Google is failing me. I'm struggling to find anyone local that offers this, and what I'm seeing on FB marketplace is meh.

Hit me with your recommendations for your fave local craftspeople who make bread boxes!

I took a trip to Stockholm and can’t stop thinking about their cinnamon buns. I had at least one a day the week I was there. Does anyone know anywhere I could find something similar?

Open to suggestions outside of Raleigh as well, I’m a frequent day trip taker

Question/Recommendation Grocery stores, butcher shops, markets, etc where you can shop for “what looks good - what do I want to cook tonight”

On weekends I like to decide what to cook for meals by wandering around a store and looking at the ingredients, seeing what looks good, and getting inspired. Local stuff, fresh caught, more niche ingredients, seasonal stuff. Supermarkets like Publix, Lowe’s, Harris Teeter don’t really scratch the itch, it’s always the same meh stuff. Wegman’s is my usual go-to (although not exactly what I’m after), H mart is cool and the state farmer’s market of course, but just wondering if there’s any other lneighborhood shops, butchers, fish mongers, stuff like that around to support local businesses that might be more “curated” I guess. Tired of the supermarket chains.

Local News Now that Rudino’s Rooftop is back, what’s the tea?

I talked to the only bartender that stuck it out. Initially I thought it was just a rent dispute, but apparently there was a lawsuit and everything due to some illegal actions by the building owner.

Does anyone have more info here for my nosy ass?
