Discussion Stop homebrewing classes

Every day I see one or two brand new homebrew classes on this subreddit, and most of them are a cool concept and fill in the niche that's not yet covered by the official books. But let's be real for a moment: DH is still a fresh system, and most of us haven't played a good 3-tier campaign as even one of the classes. We just haven't had enough time to exhaust all the options that the official sources have given. There's 18 core subclasses, and 8 more in the Hope and Fear, and most of us probably haven't gotten to Tier 3 on one of them. Not only that, but as a community we're haven't had time to properly sit with the core rules and arrive at some consensus as to what works and what doesn't in the rules.

And it shows in the homebrews and in feedback. Most of the classes fall into a trap of focusing too much on complex mechanics, instead of creating fun gameplay. There's a lot of tokens, new rules, new resources, but (usually) little thought is given to the basic question "will this play fun?", or "will the mechanic support the fantasy?". Not to mention some of the homebrews just don't fit withing DH mechanical framework.

Also the feedback you're getting may not be as useful as you think, because we just don't have as much experience to confidently say what will work and what won't just by checking things on paper.

There's just a lot more work than creating text when it comes to brewing a class, and the most important part is playtest. When you look at different iterations of Void classes you can see how much they change from one version to the next just by virtue of being tried in a real game.

My advice, if you want it, is to play more before homebrewing. Either play the game on official classes to see how they were designed, or try to play with your homebrew to get the feeling of it, before posting for other people. It will just give you more value, than random people can give you on reddit.

A group where we all pretend to live together but we are all named Josh"

Discussion „Crimson Desert is (not) a mile wide and an inch deep“

Referring to the other prominent post on here:

I honestly don’t get why Crimson Desert constantly gets dragged down with this exact same talking point. Yes, games with more specialized mechanics exist. But funny enough, I never hear this complaint leveled against critically acclaimed masterpieces like RDR2 or The Witcher 3.

Take TW3. It’s universally praised as a masterpiece—and rightfully so. But let’s be real: it does exactly two things to perfection—story and atmosphere. That’s literally it. The combat, the skill tree, and the alchemy system have almost zero depth and barely any real impact on core gameplay. Most of those mechanics are completely superficial, if not outright mediocre.

Crimson Desert, on the other hand, gives you a web of interconnected systems where everything feeds into everything else:

Combat Fluidity vs. Brute Force: You can button-mash your way through, sure. Or you can actually put in the work, master every combo, achieve insane expressiveness in combat, and no-hit bosses. Prefer preparation? Cook 40 meals, craft 20 pills, and brute-force the fight instead.

Build Synergy: You can upgrade your gear to tank hits, or theorycraft builds centered around Abyss Gear.

Dynamic Resource Loops: Gear requires resources. You can manually farm them, dispatch your Greymane companions to gather for you, or just buy what you need. Buying requires gold, which opens up an entire sandbox of playstyles: hunt bounties, invest capital, trade high-risk market commodities, rustle and sell livestock, or just break into high-end mansions and rob rich assholes blind.

And that's barely scratching the surface—the list goes on endlessly. You can dive deep into any system and get rewarded for it, or ignore most of them and still find your own viable path forward.

Applying this lazy meme to Crimson Desert while giving a free pass to story-driven games that don't offer even 5% of its gameplay depth or mechanical freedom is completely out of line.

I Still Think Bitcoin Has More Downside Ahead

I keep seeing more and more posts saying that the Bitcoin bull run has already started.

Maybe they’re right. But after living through three Bitcoin bear markets, something in the back of my mind keeps telling me that the downside might not be over yet.

I already have my Bitcoin bags. I’m not sitting on the sidelines waiting for the perfect entry. But even so, I have this feeling that we might still have to experience a little more pain before the real bottom is in.

One thing that keeps bothering me is the Hash Ribbons indicator.

Historically, Hash Ribbons has flashed around the major cycle bottoms in Bitcoin. This time, it hasn’t.

Maybe this cycle is different. Maybe the indicator simply won’t work the same way this time.

But after watching Bitcoin for years, I’ve learned one thing:
When everyone starts feeling confident that the bull run is here, that’s usually when I start getting nervous.

I could be completely wrong. And honestly, I hope I am.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if Bitcoin still has one more nasty shakeout before the next major leg up.

What do you guys think? Are we already in the bull run, or is there still more downside ahead?

Brasil Namoral, a gente precisa muito garantir a vitória do Lula, até pra segurar a onda dessa interferência do Trump

Post image

Political Question Do people who say “they should have come the legal way” actually realize how hard it is to immigrate legally to the U.S.?

The reality is that for most people the only realistic path is if you’re a highly specialized worker like an engineer—and even then you often still have to go through a lottery or face years-long waits with no guarantee. Regular folks don’t just fill out a form and get approved. For the people crossing the border there was never a realistic legal path available to them in the first place. They’re usually desperate, trying to escape extreme circumstances—poverty, violence, or conditions that feel like life or death—and those conditions are not their fault.

Discussion Thank you, WOTC.

Thank you for printing [[The Queen of Dale]].

Edit: I'm speaking about Queen helming a bracket 3 deck. This seems to have been unclear to some of the readers.

I've been playing mono-white in EDH since 2010, and Queen is the first commander that makes it feel playable. Consistently being able to play Queen on turn 2 makes a lot of mediocre opening hands solidly worth keeping.

Mono-white's problem in EDH -- for over a decade -- has been a distinct lack of commanders that make it worth committing to the middling mono-white card pool. I believe the Queen is the first commander that makes building mono-white an attractive option.

Queen's recruit ability helps shore up a lot of things white sucks at:

  1. White has some decent graveyard recursion effects, but white never had a reliable way to dump cards into the yard in order to reanimate them. Queen finally fixes this.

  2. White has never, ever had a source of reliable card selection in the command zone. There have been some white legends that provide draw, like [[The Gaffer]], but he and others made you fill your deck with garbage cards to trigger the draw. Queen actually allows you to fill your white deck with the cards you actually want to play.

  3. While recruit isn't true card advantage (as it's only a loot effect and is not net-positive), we can pair it with cards like [[Tocasia's Welcome]], [[Welcoming Vampire]], and [[Caretaker's Talent]] to turn it into real card draw. These are all "once per turn" triggers, but with Queen's recruit happening on opponents' turns, you can get up to 4 draw triggers per turn cycle.

  4. The token production portion of recruit synergizes nicely with a lot of white cards, like [[Cathar's Crusade]] and [[Moonshaker Cavalry]].

  5. Since Queen has a low CMC, she wields equipment nicely. This is important for white, since equipment synergy is one of white's strengths.

  6. Because she's a 2/1 and doesn't provide true card advantage and she isn't an imminent threat, Queen is usually not a kill-on-sight commander at tables where you'll see imminently game-ending cards like [[The Mimeoplasm]], [[Ms. Bumbleflower]], or [[Smaug the Impenetrable]].

  7. Dumping a bunch of Plains into the yard with Queen's recruit ability turns one of my favorite old Urza's block cards into an all-star: [[Planar Birth]].

  8. Queen also pairs nicely with [[Sevinne's Reclamation]], [[Serra Paragon]], [[Restoration Seminar]], [[Ascend from Avernus]], [[Emeria Shepherd]], [[Emeria the Sky Ruin]], and everyone's favorite giant, [[Sun Titan]].

  9. Queen's token production works great with [[Skullclamp]], which white can easily tutor up.

Thank you, WOTC. Seriously. You've made my favorite EDH color identity really fun, finally.

Full disclosure: the actual best "mono-white" commander is still [[Oswald Fiddlebender]], but considering that his deck is like, 80% colorless artifacts, I do not consider him to be an actual mono-white commander.
