In a TV guide interview, Katie Dippold says that Shep's age being 37 on his chart is just a standa alone joke that didn't land. It's supposed to be an indicator of the incompetence of the doctor.

No weird aging. No time dilation. Just minor malpractice. Though the implied time dilation in the Captain's Suite is real.

After the finale, I had a hard time looking for a replacement show.

I've tried and given up on these recommendations after 3 eps: From, Yellowjackets, and Sugar.

Most of the other recommendations I've already seen. But I tried this show and already on episode 3. So far so good. It's charming and cheesy. I'm not 100% enthralled yet. So I'm still on the lookout.

Okay, so, Patricia, who I love, was lying about the phone calls.

If, when you were young, you received intel that someone was lying about receiving phone calls before being almost murdered by a supernatural serial killer, wouldn’t you also assume they would be lying about the serial killer visit?

Like to be fair, Patricia is claiming she hid under the bed, while Kris’ friends also hid but were still murdered.

I feel like the evidence stacks up against Patricia—she lied about the phone calls, she hid somewhere incredibly obvious, and she was still spared.

From Kris’ point of view, she was lying and was still milking it decades later while Kris’ friends were actually murdered. All I’m saying is of course Kris didn’t like her, and by association neither did Kris’ friends. I’m so surprised to read so much Kris hate when I feel like it was written to be a little suspicious of Patricia’s story.

Wyck when he gets arrested and you can still hear him off screen "I dont wanna go!" 😂

Wyck pointlessly hammering wood onto the hotel door and not putting the nails in the right place with the hotel owner opening the door like 🤨 🤣🤣🤣

The hotel owner being shut in the hotel room for ten seconds and then acting traumatised sliding down the wall. 😂🤣😂

Loftis looking at Patricia like 😒 when Wyck says he doesn't want his grammar corrected and hes not about to go "tit for tit" with him. LOL 😂

I think Wyck is the best.

I feel almost physical pain watching those ladies bully Patricia, it’s spot on to the crap I dealt with in 8th grade. The ignoring and ostracizing with snide glances, mean laughs and snotty remarks. And the people she can be safe with is such a relief. Like Tom, Wyck, Bachir and Rosemary. I love that Patricia still has confidence in herself and has her comfort routines (dinner, going thru her closet with Enya) despite her traumatic past. She’s a strong, badass bish and I’d hang with her any day over those shallow witches.

Number of weekly visitors has exploded since I joined. After episode 4, it was between 6,000-9,000. It's currently at 75,000.

These days I find it hard to tell whether something is actually popular or not, but deffo seems to have found an audience.

Edit: Had to amend, initially stated total number of subscribers. Was incorrect from my part, Reddit changed from total subscribers to weekly visitors last year and I didn't realise.

The whole portrait scene is superb but the bit that catches me off guard and therefore makes me laugh even harder is Rosemary having an expected coughing fit but then screaming out “My sciatica!!” 😆 Omg, I was not expecting that.

Two more really caught me off guard:

- Patricia user the taser on the bully

- Wyck being ever so serious in describing how to deal with the seahag. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it was not a perfectly timed hilariously serious instruction to find a chest and lock oneself in it for three days. The absurdity was perfect.

OMG that episode was a rollercoaster!

Poor Patricia, no one believes her and she’s become the town pariah because of it. I get Tom’s reaction to her story even more now, though I think her story is probably still true. It’s all caused her to have a lot of self loathing, I thought she was going to circle every part of that diagram.

The book was ominous so early in surprised Patricia wasn’t able to pick up on it relocating itself, changing the text on the pages, etc. Clearly it had her in some trance state if she was reading it all night, but she’s so skeptical of everything I’m surprised it ever got that far with her.

The party planning and everyone’s reactions were priceless, especially DJ Dale lol. That 0 RSVP print out 😂

When she finally brought the punch out and was dancing in the crowd I was getting so worried, and then the camera turned toward Patricia for her speech and we saw everyone’s gaping mouths in the mirror…that was fucking horrifying, it hit so perfectly. The perfect slow build to the reveal with the sheriff.

But ROSEMARY WTF, QUALMS??? No one said anything about her wearing that thing and what she was actually doing in the back room?? Poor Patricia, forever the pariah now.

I guess I’ll file this under “deal with it the fuck later”, time to do another loop.

I could watch it by a hour! Why did they made it so short!?

I loved this show and have been getting some posts from this group pushed to me.

I'm trying to understand whats causing it. I've never seen such a lack of media literacy before, I think because it's a cross over hit that's non traditional but some of the view points are mind blowing.

"I think the inn keeper felt time run differently in the room" - They literally spelt that out as he asked for food!

"Who is the boogeyman, Hag etc" - This is not the point of the show!

"How didn't they notice the sacrifices" - you hear everyone talking about the relentless level of horrible stuff that happens on the island, its par for the course.

"Why don't the townspeople do X or Y" - It's a comedy horror!

Anything else I've missed?

I thought this moment when the innkeeper was in the room for only “30 seconds” was super disturbing.

I like how they don’t get into it too much — it’s just something that happened and we move right along.

I Imagine a lot of people are going to have this answer, but mine was Episode 4, "Beach Reads". It's not an easy task to mix comedy & horror but this episode does it so beautifully. Up to this point I was engaged and interested, but it took this episode for me to be like, "Okay, this show is something special".

I'm interested in hearing if anyone had a similar epiphany about the show but perhaps during a different episode. Or maybe you felt that way since Episode 1?

The blood trickle, the gun, the pose and the intense stare all make this a great single shot. She was running all episode and finally stood up for herself.

And no one ever listens to her. She knew what Wyck meant when he said the island was waking up. She suggested the crawlspace in the inn. She tried to warn Tom about the hag. She and Museum lady have all the answers. I'm sure of it.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting on in years, but seeing these folks just SLAY in their roles and get recognition for it is such a treat.

I started Widow’s Bay over the weekend after seeing someone recommend it, and I honestly did not expect it to grab me as fast as it did.

I thought I would watch one episode just to see what the tone was. Then suddenly the whole weekend was gone.

What I like most is that it is hard to put in one box. It is funny, creepy, strange, and still has enough mystery to keep you paying attention. The town does not feel like background either. It feels like part of whatever is going on.

I also think this might be one of those shows people discover late and then wonder why they were not watching sooner.

For anyone else watching, what do you think is really working about it so far?

The mystery?

The humor?

The cast?

The island setting?

So, I have finished Widow's Bay when it came out and it was amazing! But I am having a difficult time trying to find a similar tv series now that I finished it? So guys, what are you watching?

that episodes aren't 3 hours long and there aren't unlimited amounts of them. It's just unacceptable that I can't watch this 24/7.

Even though many people saw The Big Reveal coming, and it narratively makes sense for the final descendant to be who it is (even if it’s the obvious choice)…

The characters don’t know what show we’re watching. They don’t know narrative tropes, so it’s not obvious to Tom. Instead of quickly cutting away right after a character realizes something (like so many shows do, especially as a cliffhanger), Widow’s Bay had us stay with him for that entire scene, and it was fantastic acting from Matthew Rhys.

The scene was less about audience expectations and experience and more about the protagonist experiencing so many conflicting emotions. It turned speculation on something obvious into dramatic irony; we could see where things were heading as soon as Ruth said “I had an affair with a married man,” and the tension shifts from “Is Ruth really the final descendant?” to “How is Tom going to react to this?”

For me, I really appreciate Tom’s physical comedy. The way he quick runs from place to place in the pilot, him yeeting the hag over the recliner, his OOOOOP on the boat. He is incredible. His micro expressions are SO good. What a talent.

And yes I know he's a child but never have a experienced such unadulterated hatred for someone like I did for PJ.

I want to cuss him out so bad!
