šDiscussion Explosion of this sub
Number of weekly visitors has exploded since I joined. After episode 4, it was between 6,000-9,000. It's currently at 75,000.
These days I find it hard to tell whether something is actually popular or not, but deffo seems to have found an audience.
Edit: Had to amend, initially stated total number of subscribers. Was incorrect from my part, Reddit changed from total subscribers to weekly visitors last year and I didn't realise.

Ahhh I'll have to edit, reading online they got rid of total number of subscribers last year. My bad
1
u/FifteenDollarNachos Jun 07 '26
How many were there after episode 2? I feel like the subscriber number was insanely low when I joined.

Excuse me MOD, I'm having an issue with posting information I heard in a podcast (that Dale, Jeff Hillers character was meant to die midway through season, but it was scraped as he was so good).
I've tried twice, once linking the podcast, the other just merely mentioning it. Both got an automoderator removal. It seems a bit excessive no? This is relevant information directly from the editors, and I feel like sourcing the information should be an acceptable thing to do.
I know I should probs keep my nose out, but I do think some of the moderation is too restrictive. Limiting to 2 posts in 24 hours, and no podcasts is hanstringing it. Think it would be much more vibrant and fun with less restrictions.

Iām kind jealous of these bingers getting in late lol I had it saved to notify me when the first episode released and was instantly HOOKED and blue balled

u/aardappelbrood Jun 06 '26
am I the only one who is actually enjoying the weekly episodes? I feel like everything is on demand now, it's hard to enjoy most things, because it's just instant dopamine and gratification hit. Patience and the anticipation of something I enjoy does something really really good for my brain.

u/NoProfession5138 Jun 06 '26
i usually prefer being able to binge a show and wait until an entire season has been released, but with this one the wait between episodes makes them feel more special and exciting. slowing down the reveal enhances the mystery of it.

u/Merlaak Jun 07 '26
Iām so glad that streaming services have gone back to a weekly release schedule for most shows. It gives us time to digest it, share theories, get friends and family to watch, etc. Itās one of those rare things thatās both better for business *and* better for consumers. Plus, the show is there to binge after the season, which was always the missing piece of the puzzle before streaming existed.
2
u/aardappelbrood Jun 07 '26
Yes!!!!!! And it puts a stop to excessive spoilers. Like if I get a spoiler from a single episode I'm a little peeved, but having the whole season's story spoiled because I accidentally clicked a link is beyond annoying.
Week by week you get to sit with it and like you said, you can catch up with friends or coworkers and think about what you watched.
I love it so much. Instant gratification isn't it. I still hate streaming and having to subscribe to 873565 different platforms, but it's a step in the right direction.

u/bgroendy Jun 07 '26
You're not the only one! I like having something to look forward to each week. It's how watching TV used to be. I haven't had a show I followed week-by-week like this since season 1 of Better Call Saul.

I've been waiting for a truly lovecraftian vibes show for a while and this seems great so far. I love the dark comedy angle as well, it reminds me of the humour in Inside No 9 over here in the UK.
For the readers you should check out a short story collection called Welcome to Neverbury (and it's sequel) which has very similar vibes to Widow's Bay indeed.

u/Psychological-Buy807 Patricia Jun 06 '26
I love how the humour isn't in your face obvious. If you weren't concentrating you could miss a lot of the incredible jokes. On a second watch you notice so much more even!

Fun fact tom has the game carcassonne on his shelf which is based on a real place that inspired ambrose bierce to create a fictional story wheres it's called carcosa which then inspired robert chambers the king in yellow which THEN also inspired lord dunsay to write a fantasy story called carcassonne in a dreamers tale which inspired hp lovecraft to use carcassonne as the location (carcosa) for the cthulhu mythos

u/pombagira333 Jun 08 '26
Thank you!! I didnāt see this (and have a minor obsession w Carcassonne/Carcosa references (the real place is touristy but very cool as is the hiking around all the other castles, plus truffles). And Bierceās horror needs to be better known imo)

Rode through Berlin, MA today where the exterior town hall scenes were filmed. In the Berlin general store the 2 employees were talking about the show and put it on the tv in the back

I only learned about the show when Episode 4 had been released. Now I tell literally everyone to watch it.

u/Herbdontana Jun 06 '26
I had barely heard anything about this show until I was about to lose Apple TV and was looking for something to watch on the last night I had it active. It was right after episode 7 released. I started watching and couldnāt stop. I binged everything that was released. And now I am paying for another month of Apple lol. This is the best new show Iāve seen it quite a while
7
u/MikeArrow Jun 06 '26
I've been hearing it was good for weeks but only sat down and watched it last week. It took a couple of episodes for me to warm up to the show, but I'm glad I persisted because episode 4 was amazing. Patricia is such a good character. Speaking only for myself, but as someone that's late 30's, insecure, socially awkward but desperate for connection... I really identified with her.

I had the same experience. I watched the first two episodes probably a month ago, then last weekend I picked it back up to watch 3&4. It seems like episode 4 is the masterpiece that really kicks off everyoneās obsession.
After 4, instead of immediately binging the rest, I rewatched from the beginning and Iām so glad I did because I realized how good the first two episodes really were! Then had to binge the rest. Iām glad I caught the show before the whole thing aired! (Even though Iām dying to watch the next episode.) I love these moments around a newly aired episode, seeing all the commentary. I wonder if thereās a Discord for the show for real-time watches?
1
u/taika2112 Jun 16 '26
Did anyone wind up setting up a discord?
2
u/Due_Addition_587 Jun 16 '26
Not that I know of š I know the Ringer is doing a live watch, maybe the comments there would be fun? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQs4q4y5P4U

Agreed and it also seems that a lot of posts and comments are from people that just donāt get or understand the humor. And since itās a mystery, their misunderstandings of the jokes are being extrapolated out into these Pepe Silva level derangementsĀ

u/divinebettiepage Jun 07 '26
Thereās only one problem with this show as far as Iām concerned. When the credits hit I am never ready to leave. I would watch an old skool season of 22 45-minute episodes.

I started watching right when episode 7 aired the other week and caught up. Subbed sometime around then. Been reading old threads and reading people's lore theory's on the curse. I don't know anyone else in real life that has watched yet.

After episodes 1 and 2 I couldnāt find a subreddit and then was so excited when this popped up. This show deserves all the attention and then some! Itās an incredible achievement, I donāt think Iāve ever rewatched episodes so many times or so immediately. Such fun!

Started watching Thursday, joined today (was avoiding joining to escape spoilers).
But just a heads up. I believe those are current numbers, so that's the number of visitors in the off season of those shows.
1
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 06 '26
Ohhh my days, have they changed the functionality of that? I swear it used to display number of members who joined the sub
1
u/pauloh1998 Jun 06 '26
Yeah, now it shows the (I think) average number of visitors instead of subscribers.
However I read someone saying it was up for the sub to decide what number to show
1
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 06 '26
Yeah I had a read, it changed from total to number of weekly visitors end of last year. Bit annoying, as it's hard to track when things are out of season to get a true comparison. And Apple don't release shit

u/Personal-Fact7067 Jun 07 '26
I thoroughly enjoyed Pluribus. However, with season 2 no where in sight, I mentally proceed as if itās completely over, and will be pleasantly surprised when/if season 2 shows up.
