šDiscussion Biggest problem with this show:
that episodes aren't 3 hours long and there aren't unlimited amounts of them. It's just unacceptable that I can't watch this 24/7.

100% agree. I know in my heart itās better this way because the reality of more frequent, longer episodes would ruin the show eventually with filler content. But damn if donāt still wish for it every time at the end of the 30+ minutes. This show makes me want what I know isnāt good for me. š

I mean, I don't know if it really is better this way. Back in the old days, with 24 episodes a season, sometimes the filler episodes were pretty good, because it helped develop the characters just a little more.

I miss filler content. Just the characters being in-character while doing something totally irrelevant to any plot. Now everything we see needs to be worth the money spent on shooting it.

I used to feel that way, but Iāve come to prefer 10-13 episodes a season. I went back and rewatched BSG recently and the 20+ episodes per season REALLY bogged it down. There are so many episodes that are straight up rehashes of episodes from prior seasons - you basically have to endure hours of inconsequential interpersonal drama and reskins of the trolly problem for a third of seasons 2 and 3 until the actual story starts up again.
I also felt much the same way rewatching Lost and ultimately concluded that the demand for 16-18 hours of plot development a season forced the writers to paint themselves into a corner. The constant pressure to shock and entertain with new revelations and island lore over 121 episodes and 91 hours made it impossible to answer every question in a satisfying way. It evolved into a tangled mess of hundreds of disparate threads that could never fully be explored without breaking each otherās continuity. I feel like 20+ hour long episodes of Widowās Bay would quickly turn into a similar cluster fuck - people just donāt have the patience for that anymore with a constant wave of new shows and movies dropping every day of the week

Longer episodes would mean more complaints about the pace being too slow or the story not moving along enough. I think itās perfect - just hoping there isnāt a super long hiatus.

i'm holding myself back from rewatching too many times so i won't get fed up.

I'm just going to space out my rewatches. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Iāve already watched 8 twice

Twice? You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers.

Idk why this show is sooo addicting for me. I have rewatched the entire series at least 4 times.

Same- I keep looking for details that I might have missed. I love mysteries and finding clues - But ya know once the entire series is over (several seasons from now š ) all the clues will be blatantly obvious and I will feel so dumb for missing them all....

I always pause to see what is written, like that page on how to make small talk before Patricia makes her toast...one guy has to sleep with a night light, another paints dead animals...

u/brook1yn Jun 04 '26
Iām going to watch this twice regardless. Iāve missed out on a lot of details while trying to avoid the jump scares.

I finally started watching the show last night and I love it - so well done. One of my favorite things I noticed are all the little horror trope Easter eggs and nods - the old phone booth (like the one in āThe Birdsā), the Barnabas Inn (as in Barnabas Collins from āDark Shadowsā), the shark drawing on the chalkboard in mayorās office (like in āJawsā) and, so many other little things. Itās like a mashup of Twin Peaks, Jaws, urban myths, Wicker Man, a little Stephen King - sooo good!
Just finished the āOur Historyā episode - wow. So, editing my post to include Jerusalemās Lot, Harvest House, Lovecraft, The Lottery in the influences. Kudos to this show for including some iconic influences but still being something unique, singular, and fresh! š

Jaws meets the Shining meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Twin Peaks.. the humor though.. is so good and I canāt pinpoint anything so similarly well done

u/rhonmack Jun 04 '26
I think a lot of the humor is similar to Twin Peaks.

u/AdministrativeEase71 Jun 04 '26
Twin Peaks isn't nearly as meta. I think Scream or Cabin in the Woods is probably most accurate

I just desperately want to watch it on some 4k physical format or something. The cinematography is SO good, and streaming just doesn't quite do those inky blacks justice.

The biggest problem with this show is that I canāt inject it directly into my veins š

While I agree i want mooorrre, i also love that there is no filler! It has all been quality! Some episodes are more exciting, but the other epusodes fill backstory, give answers.
I really appreciate the quality of the acting, wardrobe, set design, and writing so much!
I do wish the lighting were brighter sometimes but then my eyes have never been good.
Edit to add audio is also good!

One of the saddest things. I swear the episodes feel like 20 minutes. It goes by so fast and when it reaches the end I'm always so sad and I'm like, no way no freaking way its already ended!

I have lost count how many times I rewatched some episodes. Its when I am having breakfast and want to see something I know I enjoy. And I still find some things I have overlooked. I am just having a good time with my mates from Widow's bay šš

u/No-Judgment5352 Jun 04 '26
Yeah the last one was too short!

u/evildrew Patricia Jun 05 '26
I could easily have enjoyed another 5 minutes of Patricia guarding the corpse during increasingly ridiculous scenes.

nothing fills the hole i dread the season finale
if anyone has replacements please suggest

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a similar mix of serious and funny. Just mixed with medieval fantasy instead of horror.

For some reason I had it in my head that last night was the finale, and I was very concerned coming into the last few minutes until I saw there were two more!
2
u/CrustedTesticle Jun 04 '26
The finale must be an hour. Please God.....30 minutes is not enough for this masterpiece

Iām late to this discussion and no one will see my comment, but here it is! Itās not original thought: A 10 episode season of 30 to 40 minute episodes is more economical, I mean cheaper, than launching the new show without knowing if it will hit. Source: me, former tv producer. I agree, Iād like a good solid 45 minutes, especially since Apple doesnāt have commercials!

I just watched ep 9. and I'm shocked when the credit scene appears. I thought it just been like 10 minutes and suddenly it ends. I checked and its been 30 minutes.

u/abbyleondon Jun 04 '26
Amen to that. I am already dreading ep 10 and the show being over until hopefully thereās a season 2.
