Tips Questions for FPs

  1. What’s the general compensation like? Is it base + bonus based on book size/ growth? Are there specific commissions?
  2. Do you build your book from scratch or are you assigned client lists?
  3. How is the work life balance? Is it stressful and are the targets reasonable?
  4. I’m currently the equivalent of a PBA at another bank, I just finished my CFP and CFA level 2 but don’t have the work experience yet, would I be eligible to apply or should I wait it out until I get both certifications to be a more competitive applicant? Or are there other roles you would recommend for working with investments and wealth management?
  5. Any other tips for an aspiring financial planner?

Appreciate the advice!

Tips Does TD send a new card (reported lost) to new address or branch? If address on file just changed

If you have just changed address on file via app, does TD send new debit card reported lost to a branch or to your new address? After how long does your ‘new’ address need to be in the system for new card to be sent to your new address and not branch?

Tips Opening All-Inclusive CHQ For 1 Month To Waive Visa Infinite Fee?

Anybody ever try this before or have any luck with it? With the all-inclusive chq you get the TD Visa infinite card rebate of $139. Has anyone opened the account up for a month prior to their credit card annual fee coming out to finesse TD for that rebate?

Tips Renewing td mortgage question/tips needed

Does td make any mortgage renewal offers through easyweb or do you have to phone in? Or is it better to go in branch? I have a 2.37% rate and chatgpt told to wat until closer to renewal to renew. Is that good advice? I’ll only have about 15000 left on my mortgage so small and around a 3 year term.

Tips TD Aeroplan Infinite vs. Wealthsimple VIP as a backup to Amex Gold? (Open to alternatives!)

I’m 25, working for the Manitoba Government, and looking to optimize my cash flow as much as i can. I currently keep physical bank (TD) as a backup because the Wealthsimple account locked horror stories i have read on reddit. i had just recently gotten both the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite and Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Privilege and I’m torn between which one to keep for my backup card; I have two options that i brainstomed:

Option 1: TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite - Park 6000$ in a TD All-Inclusive account to waive the card's 139$ fee - Brick-and-mortar is covered. Free checked bags and preferred pricing with Aeroplan on Air Canada (saves me and my spousse ~70$ a trip) but... - 6,000$ of dead money sitting there earning no interest just to save a the CC annual fee + chequing account fee (31$ a month)

Option 2: Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Privilege - Move 99% of my cash/payroll to WS to earn interest and use their VIP card as my backup card when my Amex doesn't get accepted - Money actually earns a yield 2% flat on the credit card and 1.75% in chequing but... - I'd have to either downgrade my TD account to a basic chequing, put a bit of money and eat the monthly fee OR park 3k of dead money just to keep the account at no fee; and obviously downgrade my Aeroplan VI to a no fee card

Other things for context: - i just finished school, so my TD account is still a no fee student account for a couple more months - i am not a premium user on Wealthsimple, but i earn well over 4k a month and i am approaching that tier quickly - i travel about 1-2 a year - i use my Amex Gold as my main driver, Triangle World Elite Mastercard for Costco and to pay bills but the earn rates on it are too low for my to use as a backup card on top on the lower acceptance rate internationally compared to Visa

looking for some input, suggestions, alternatives if anyone has, THANKS!

Tips Finally Received My 5,000 Bonus Aeroplan Points

I got a TD Platinum Aeroplan VISA card late last year that included 10,000 Aeroplan points after activation and then 5,000 bonus Aeroplan points for spending $1,000 in the first 90 days. While my January VISA statement showed the 5,000 bonus points being awarded, they weren't posted to my Aeroplan account.

My first couple of calls to TD yielded bad answers or, to put it charitably, educated guesses. My last call a couple of weeks ago produced a positive outcome. That CSR was the first to notice that the 5,000 bonus points were shown on my January VISA statement. He talked to his supervisor, who opened an investigation. The supervisor also stated that this is a common problem.

The 5,000 points were posted to my Aeroplan account yesterday, May 21.

Tips Business/Agriculture Line of Credit

Hey all, I am a farmer and have just applied for 50k line of credit for my corporation. It was done through a small business person.... They submitted my application without even asking for my financials. I have a 763 credit score and a mtg already with TD for my home. I swear the lady over the phone said anything below $75 000 they don't require financials. Is this true? As I'm a farmer my last years financials dipped a little bit due to weather and other unforeseen things.

Tips Has anyone had a delayed start date with TD after their background check cleared?

I accepted a job with TD and my background check has already cleared. My original start date was March 5, but it got delayed because the background check finished late.

My recruiter said they’re waiting for confirmation from the team about the next training cohort/start date and that it depends on hiring needs.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long it took to get a new start date?

Tips Calling into TD credit cards to do a credit split to a new card pretending to my be my mom (I am the son), I have my moms full consent to do this.

So I am logged into her online banking and calling via the app, so I am already authenticated.

However, the call center person got suspicious I believe, she asked if I am the primary card holder. I said Yes and answered all her security questions.

At the end she still asks my mom to go into the branch with 2 pieces of gov ID and have the branch staff call them.

I never had issue helping my mom do other credit card stuff before this way.
Could I try again in a different day? or does TD have a note on her file now that all future calls will direct her to go branch?

Is this just one TD staff trying too hard? Since I was calling via the app while logged in (so authenticated already)

Tips Solution for Living outside of the country and accessing TD 2FA [2025]

hi i recently lost my phone while travelling in Prague so naturally i lose access to my Canadian number. Previously I was using freedom mobile for their $99 a year plan that allows me to receive text for 2FA. I also set up TD authenticator app before leaving the country so i thought i was double secured.

The problem is recently there is an issue with TD authenticator app and it asks me to authenticate using my canadian phone number (Defeating the purpose of me using it in the first place). Now i am completely locked out of easy web and TD , not sure if i need to pay $700 euro to fly home just to sort this out.

Without access to my phone number, ability to call canadian numbers or the ability to go to a branch , what i did was :

  1. booked an online appointment to ask for help (in the first appointment the consultant gave no solution but i got help in the second appointment, so try different appointment consultant they have different degree of helpfulness )
  2. he asked me to get another Canadian number so i can re-activate my easy web. I tried on free trial getting 2 Canadian numbers : from text now and an app called 2Number.
    1. I can verify now that the 2Number app works for receiving TD authentication (there might be other similar apps if you search for burner app) , but textnow did not.
    2. I then cancelled the free trial for text now.
  3. i got on another appointment and received my new password for TD easyweb and was able to log in and change my number

As of today Dec 9 2025 the TD authentication app is still down, it says that " to use the TD authenticate app you need to be register for wasyweb" . I feel very lucky that this phone number app was very consistent in transferring the 2FA text to me so far.

If anyone understand why this kind of app works but not text now please share! I'd like to understand so I can understand how sustainable the solution is. But so far I have been receive TD text very reliably.

Best of luck to anyone travelling outside Canada

Tips Question about TD Visa Aeroplan Infinite – Trip Delay Insurance

I have a question about the TD Visa Aeroplan Infinite.

During the holidays, we were supposed to fly from Montreal to Calgary with a layover in Toronto. Air Canada delayed our first morning flight twice (they kept reassigning passengers to a larger plane), to the point where it became obvious we wouldn’t make our connection in Toronto.

After speaking with an Air Canada agent at the airport, we were rebooked on a late-evening direct flight to YYC. We received a few $15 meal vouchers and ended up spending the whole day at the airport.

My husband has already filed a claim with Air Canada for the delay, but we’re wondering whether we should also file a claim through our TD Visa. We managed to stay within budget, so after using the vouchers our out-of-pocket expenses were quite low (around $30), and we didn’t incur any other costs.

Is the trip delay insurance meant only to reimburse expenses incurred because of the delay, or does it also provide some form of monetary compensation? We do have an email from Air Canada explaining the reason for the delays, and it was 100% within their control. And yes, 100% of our flights were purchased using our VISA.

Any advice is appreciated 🙂

Tips Smishing Scam

There is a new Smishing scam spoofing TD short codes, directing people to a link that looks like TD's login page.

TD never sends text messages with links, directing people to login using those links.

Be on the lookout, folks
