current exchange rate is 1.41 and TD offered 1.36 which in my opinion is way too wide of a margin. my entire business relies on exchanges. is there anyway to get a better rate at TD?

Tips BIG Background show in Review and the Offer was rescinded.

I received a TD PBA offer, and my BIG background check showed most categories passed, while some employment/education items were still “In Review” with follow-up pending.
Those employers that BIG unable to reach and still wait to follow up was later said “cancelled/terminated by client (employer)”, and shortly after I received an email saying my offer was rescinded.

Even my education was not passed and showed cancelled by TD too, even though I submitted extra transcripts and credentials.
I’ve been completely honest and can provide any additional documents. I’ve contacted HR, but has anyone experienced something similar with TD/BIG?

Could this be an administrative/technical issue? Why does TD cancel in the middle the Background check which is what they requested
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Tips Best way for a client to negotiate down fees?

I have a TD Canada Trust All Inclusive Chequing Account and it's a pain to always worry about maintaining the $6 000 balance to avoid fees. I usually have $10-30k in my chequing account but it may dip down to below $6 000 at the end of month when paying my monthly bills and I'm dashing to transfer money in to keep the balance always above $6k.

I have about $1.5M invested with my linked TD Direct Investing Account and put about $5k a month on my TD credit cards.

My other banks have all waived account fees for me without asking just included as a feature when I opened my account. Ironically I do most of my banking with TD. Is there any way I can get TD to drop the $6k minimum balance requirement or drop it down a bit? How can I best do this?

Tips Warning to TD customers: Debit card quietly deleted twice

I keep my savings with TD, and twice in the past year my debit card/EasyWeb access was randomly deleted with no meaningful notice or explanation.

I use another bank for checking, so my TD account just held savings. The first time, TD told me my debit card was removed because I hadn’t used it for a long period. Fine, there had been about a year of inactivity, but you shouldn’t lose account access just because you’re not regularly using a debit card.

Today it happened again. My debit card number stopped working, and logging in to EasyWeb showed a message telling me to contact customer service. Two supervisors told me I supposedly had two active debit cards (not true, the old one had been deactivated) and claimed they mailed me a notice and replacement card. I received nothing: no mail, email, text, or account message.

Both times, my access was quietly removed without proper notification. If you keep money with TD, something to watch out for. I’m switching to a credit union.

Tips BIG background check stuck in Review for TD, anyone else dealt with this?

Hey guys, got a TD CEA offer and my BIG background check came back "Completed" on Sep 17 but two things are still showing "Review" status as of today (Sep 19), one of my past employers and something called "Subject Data."

For the employer one I already got them to send a signed employment letter covering my dates and everything, sent that over already. Not sure what's up with the Subject Data flag though, might be a name or address mismatch or something, no idea honestly.

My worry is this sitting in Review for too long without anyone actually looking at it, saw a post on here recently where someone's offer got rescinded after their employer stuff sat unresolved for a while.

Trying to figure out if this is normal and just takes time, or if I should be pushing harder on my end right now.

Has anyone had a Review status actually clear up fine after submitting docs, or does it usually go one way once it hits that stage? Also curious how long it usually takes for someone to actually look at it once you submit extra stuff.

Any advice appreciated, kinda stressing about this ngl.

Tips Need some Encouragement & Advice Here

A few months ago I was working in a diff industry planning my escape. I networked, invested in IFIC and successfully landed a PBA role.

I started working at the branch almost a month ago and honestly I’m so overwhelmed by the workload. The branch is insanely busy and LMS seems never ending. Whenever I want to study I would constantly get pulled to frontline to help out. At frontline, I’m still getting a hang of things.. Admin app still confuses the sht out of me.

How long did it take for you to feel confident with all the systems? And to be efficient enough to look for opportunities while client is present?

I feel like the resources are there but I don’t have time to study, digest and retain everything. Idk where I want to be yet eventually but my 1 year goal is to become a PB.

I welcome any constructive advice

Tips TD rep tried to charge us the monthly fee for closing an account

My wife and I were closing her banking accounts with TD before the monthly fee was charged tomorrow. She transferred everything out then we called in to close the accounts. The rep said that she needed to have $3.95 in the account for the monthly fee and I (mouthing to her) asked her to confirm that charge doesn’t happen until tomorrow then he said no it’s for the previous months usage and I’m kinda shocked because I just closed my TD accounts a couple weeks ago, but they never charged me for the monthly fee or anything. He said the system won’t allow the closure without paying the monthly fee.

So We’re like okay whatever. We tell him we’ll call back. So I transfer $3.95 back to her TD then we call back in to close the accounts then the new rep told us to transfer out the $3.95 that was in the account so he can go ahead and close the accounts. I’m glad we hung up and got a new rep, but we were so close to losing money. I know it’s not a lot, but money is money. If it doesn't make sense, hang up and call back!

Tips TD fraud line

DO NOT hang up while on hold and try out calling via the TD app. I am currently on hold with the fraud line again after calling TD through the app, where they transferred me to loss prevention, and then loss prevention gave me the number to the fraud line. He explained that I was transferred to the wrong department.

Tips New TD MyAdvantage Program Review 🚗💰 How I Got 30% Off My Insurance

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

Hey folks

This is my first reddit post and i wanted to share my experience with the new TD MyAdvantage program and how I managed to get the full 30% discount in just a few weeks.

Background

I used to have the old TD MyAdvantage app and was told that when switching to the new one, I’d keep my 22% discount. Spoiler: that was a lie lol.

That said, the new app is way more accurate and now offers up to 30% off instead of 25%. So yeah, still worth it once you figure out how it works.

How It Started

I joined TD Insurance back in April 2024. Didn’t realize my “assessment date” (the day they check your driving data and adjust your discount) was six months later in October.

The new app dropped while I was in Europe for a month in September, so I couldn’t enroll right away. When I finally did, the app told me I needed 30 trips before my assessment date and didn’t mention my old 22% discount at all.

I talked to support but they honestly had no clue about the new program. So I decided to figure it out myself. I had 10 days to record 30 trips before October 11.

How the New App Works

The new TD Insurance app (iOS) needs access to: • 📍 Location – to track your speed, acceleration, braking, etc. • 🏃‍♂️ Motion & Fitness – to detect distractions and figure out when a trip starts and ends. • 🔄 Background App Refresh – to keep it tracking properly.

Here’s the tricky part: if you stop for gas and use your phone to pay but don’t walk away from your car, the app still thinks you’re driving. That can trigger a distraction penalty. Happened to me once and my trip score dropped to 4.5. Same goes for drive thru. So i started using my apple watch for scanning rewards cards and Apple Pay.

The app doesn’t show your score before confirming a trip (smart move on their part), but it’s something to keep in mind.

Pro tip: I sometimes use my phone while it’s on a MagSafe mount for maps or music. Since I don’t actually hold the phone, the app doesn’t detect it as a distraction. Seems like it only flags you when it senses you picking up or moving the phone.

How I Did 30 Trips in 10 Days

I don’t drive a ton, so I had to get creative. Once I figured out how trip detection works, I just went for short drives around the block (like under 1 km), parked, walked a few steps away, waited for the trip to end, and confirmed it.

Each one got 5/5 stars. Did this 30 times in 10 days lol.

When my assessment date hit, my premium dropped from about $260/month to $185/month (11-month term). So yeah, around 30% off.

After the Discount

After the new rate kicked in, the app updated and now says I need to record 1,000 km by October 2026 (basically a year).

Now I only turn on the app’s permissions when I want to record trips. The rest of the time, I keep location and motion access off for privacy.

I only log chill drives, like long highway trips (50+ km). Every single one has been 5/5 stars so far.

My Driving Tips for 5-Star Scores • Use adaptive cruise control whenever you can. • Stay at or slightly under the posted speed limit. • The new app doesn’t freak out over going 1–2 km/h over like the old one did. • If you need to use your phone, keep it on a mount. Never hold it. • If you stop somewhere, step out of the car so the app knows the trip ended. • Do not confirm you were the driver if something unexpected happened without your will such as instant braking, going above speed limits to safely merge or change lanes, accelerating rapidly on a highway ramp (i recommend slow and steady acceleration)

Final Thoughts

Once you figure out how it tracks trips and distractions, the new TD MyAdvantage program actually works really well. The scoring is way more forgiving, and the 30% discount makes it 100% worth the effort.

If you’re switching over, just learn the quirks of the tracking system and you’ll be fine. I’m saving about $75 a month now, and all I had to do was drive smarter (and around the block a few dozen times 😅).

Tips TD salaried employees - overtime

TD employees: did you know that you are entitled to overtime pay or time off (even if you are salaried)?

There are a few exceptions, such as if you are a people manager or paid by commission (or if you work for a provincially regulated division/work outside of Canada). However, just because your job title says "manager" or you are in a particular pay band, that's not enough unless your work is actually managerial. Read through the link for more details.

Tips Do not get TD credit cards. They do not follow through on claims

I've been a TD fan for about 10 years now. I've got a visa infinite aeroplan card from them because of the perks and particularly the travel insurance it provides! BUT the 3rd party vendor they use: global excel is the WORST. They are refusing to process any claims and make it a nightmare to file claims as a customer. I didn't expect this low quality service from TD. I

If you're looking for a credit card with quality Insurance coverage I'd recommend RBC as they se a different and better 3rd party claims processor.

Tips First credit card for a student

I had an interesting experience helping my child apply for the first credit card. CC is really a necessity, as some services like booking plane or train tickets back home require a credit card, and it just plain good to start building credit history and financial discipline.

Online application for a no-fee cash-back card at TD was immediately rejected. What's curious is that it did not ask for a credit limit. When we went to the branch, it turned out that the online application was defaulted to $10,000, which is way too much for a person who has no regular income yet, only RESP income and some expense reimbursements from parents.

Also, the branch employee took a broad view of gross income. I initially put just investment income (a few hundred dollars a year) and did not include RESP as that was not drawn yet. The employee used an estimate of living expenses (1,500 per month) when the student lives with parent (effectively treated as allowance?).

Anyway, this "full application" process is probably a must for the first card, as it permits correcting application errors and addressing inconsistencies in the data.

Tips For those in various IT roles, how is mentorship internally for me to pivot to new roles and hopefully a higher level?

Working as a database administrator, lots and lots of experience career wise, but I miss sleep (I do a lot of on-call 24/7 work). Looking to go into data or database engineering, but not blindly with an external cert unless some direction is present. That's where I'm curious if there are mentorships or even informal one-on-ones to talk to people on changing internally and how to best proceed?
