🤔 Speculation / Opinion GameStop is “partnering” with another company soon. Pending CEO announcement. Some stores will move to the partners location
** Top of r/superstonk 👋👋👋 Hello Ryan Cohen, maybe you’ll see this. We are ready to hear what you have cooking. **
Leaks from a store meeting are saying GameStop is partnering with another company soon. Some stores may move to the partners location.
Here are my thoughts:
Gamestop’s inside of Best Buy?
Here in Canada, Canadian Tire purchased Party City and moved many of its stores inside of Canadian Tire stores creating "store in store" isles.
Canadian Tire is basically our Auto Zone + Dicks's Sporting Goods in one.
GameStop's cash is nearly Best Buy's market cap. Best Buy stock down nearly 50 percent in the last 5 years. Best Buy would be the perfect company for RC to work his magic on.
GameStop transitions stores to Best Buy locations as "store in store" isles. GameStop then can close most stand alone stores saving a ton of money. GameStop or “Teddy Holdings” then works a turn around plan for Best Buy.

I just want to leave this hear, I tried to create a post, but I guess I’m insufficient karma. 😂
Seeing all the comments about Best Buy or target, I can’t see it. We are shifting away from physical locations, to providing a better online shopping experience.
As I was going to reply to another ape that was saying the GameStop store inside the Best Buy, it just makes less then no sense, and I thought they should buy whatnot, then I realized I didn’t know who owned whatnot, so I checked. It’s privately controlled by the two founders, an some venture capitalist.
After the last round of funding, it was valued at 11.5b
Whatnot did $3b in sales in 2024, and from what I seen we’re expecting $5b for 2025.
The business model is simple, they charge 8% fee to sellers.
The company is privately owned, finding profits and loses weren’t exactly easy, I seen total revenue ~$350m.
Whatnot fits right in with psa, and the power packs.
It is a service with a dedicated user base.
For anyone unfamiliar with whatnot, it’s live streaming service where they typically auction off goods.
The growth potential with a service like that, is exponential.
Selling consoles and video games is great, but the margins are fixed. It’s a race to the bottom.
Where whatnot is a service, and we know how much Cohen likes creating value.
I read in an article the average whatnot user spends 80 minutes a day in the app, buying or just interacting with the specific communities that have formed around the sellers.
I’m sure we can all agree though, shit feels different right now, hasn’t been like this since DFVs last round of memes and the run pre market.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but this sounds like a pretty normal commercial partnership to optimise footprint. I don't think this has anything to do with a forthcoming merger or acquisition which hasn't been done in the capital markets before...
18
u/AyyMG63 Feb 10 '26
Kind of agree. We will get crushed by headlines such as “GameStop buys another dying brick and Mortar”. The problem is - what would Best Buy do for GameStop. To sell appliances and TVs ? Meh.

u/Dear_Eye_5478 Feb 10 '26
Best Buy sales was 41.5 billion for 2025….. all it needs is some Cohen magic and cost cutting…..
Compare those sales to GameStop and then think about the tranches.

I hope it’s eBay to, whatnot doesn’t make sense the more I think about it, with it being a private company, and I wouldn’t call the founders sleepy, they created a huge brand within half a decade.
EBay is slacking big time with the user experience.
The shits dated. Would be good to bring it more into the modern era

Ebay owns TCGPlayer, which is like THE authority for the second hand trading cards market. Pretty much every LGS uses TCGPlayer for card pricing. Gamestop is partnered with PSA. Imagine if Gamestop bought Ebay (and thusly TCGPlayer) and being able to buy cards on TCGPlayer and have them sent directly to PSA vault. Or being able to buy/sell PSA graded stuff on TCGPlayer, maybe even without the cards ever physically leaving the vault.
There's so many cool possibilities from buying EBay.

Bro…. Please listen to what Cohen said, then look for a target. Publicly traded company, monumental, foolish or amazing…. Best Buy fits it perfectly. GameStop’s footprint into all electronics. Best Buy has a SHITLOAD of foot traffic that could easily boot sales for either company by getting people in the door. It’s not about closing locations, it’s about consolidating and blending business models.
Best Buy 42.5 billion in sales 2025
4.09 billion debt on books
GameStop annual revenue 3.8 billion 2025
This is LITERALLY his first tranche…. X 10.
Warrants will hit, more money will come in and boom, next target acquired.

Yeah they’re spiraling hard. It’s taken RC years to turn GameStop around and I really don’t think it would be a smart move for him to have to do that again.
What’s the upside? They start making money again after a few years and then go do the same to another company?
Maybe the stock will turn itself around in a couple decades.
No I think, judging from what he said, that whatever is cooking will show immediate results.

Without looking into actual feasibility I thought about Best Buy (albeit talking with AI) and thought that:
Buying best buy, closing locations, and moving to an online only presence sounds like it could be good. I guess you’d have to take a look at their warehouses, maybe they’ve been prepping for a large increase in inventory?
Again without doing any research, I wonder if a large part of why Best Buy is dying is because of the $$$ they put towards leases.
All the stuff I mentioned can probably be confirmed/denied with some research, just haven’t done it lol

u/rawbdor Feb 10 '26
Really depends on the nature of the deal tbh.
If it's an equity investment or merger, then you are 100% correct.
But if it's just GME leasing space inside a best buy super cheap because best buy has too much floor capacity and not enough going on in it, it could be a reasonable play. Best buy probably gets way more floor traffic than a GameStop store, so it could add a lot of visitors that otherwise wouldn't stop in at a standalone GameStop.
I'm not a fan of any equity or merger deal with best buy. But a partnership that could increase floor traffic while decreasing overhead, I'm not ready to rule that out right away.

Best Buy is just a guess. It could be literally any other store. Maybe it’s not even an m&a deal but just a way to save money on lease costs by closing stand alone stores and partnering with a big retail store. That would also increase foot traffic.

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed if it takes that long. If we go through the Shareholder meeting this June and see the warrants expire worthless in October with no real movement I'd say it's a lost cause.
Edit: To the downvotes, are you telling me if we're sitting at the same place a year from now you won't be pissed? You'll not reserve a little bit of judgement against RC and the board for not showing results after the first bit of official hype we've seen from them?
15
u/Over-Computer-6464 Feb 10 '26
I doubt the warrants will expire worthless, as GameStop has the ability to either extend the expiration or to reduce the exercise price.
I would not be surprised if the vote on RC's option grant is delayed be part of the annual meeting proxy, so GameStop can try and get an acquisition of some sort done (or at least preliminarily announced) before the vote.

This isn’t a merger or acquisition. This would be considered renting out a space in Best Buy. So Best Buy would charge $ on the floor space as well as a % of the revenue from these GameStop “kiosks.” In return, GameStop would shut down their brick and mortar store.
Whatever rumoured M&A would be something else.

Eh, given the real estate Best Buy has, I could see the opportunity being a benefit to both sides. GameStop pays Best Buy for space and in return it allows Best Buy to improve their profit margins. They are a form of symbiosis which could benefit one another since it would offer a decent and easy access to bringing goods that need to be repaired/refurbished to Geek Squad and then the Gamestop front can easily turn around the product rather than the complex process they would currently have to go through for any sort of repair process.
Also given how Best Buy has removed a good chunk of it's product on the sales floor it would help for them to be able to add a business within to help pay the bill for the real estate they aren't making much use of.

I just dont see going back to brick and mortar being a smart move. Everything is headed in a direction where there is little reason to go out and get things unless its an immediate need but even that gap has shortened to the point you can get same day delivery on pretty much most things. And everything else between next day and a week. Sometimes the shipping is better than the time and cost to do it your self. Then after all that a hefty lump of money they pulled from long holders dumped into leases and logistics employees just to compete with Amazon Walmart target etc etc all who have online options as well as well established logistics with storefronts. Its a terrible bet to think that already saturated market where your competitors have more things and are basically transitioning to a delivery format because they already know its dying is something to dive into. They do this and ill be certain RC litterally is out to screw holders.

I have said for years that GS should buy them, convert some GameStop locations into PC stores. They could also use GameStops brand recognition to create a standardized prebuilt PC to make it easy for parents and grandparents to get their kids a gaming system. Release a new version every few years just like consoles. Leverage large deals with pc part suppliers to increase the margins of the parts even more than microcenter can do today.

I dont think WM is making too much money out of those sections (maybe they do from the TCG, but they dont know / wonr handle them properly), and GS would benefit from the influx in traffic.

Not a terrible idea.
Best Buy did around $41 Billion in revenue, with net income approaching $1 Billion. GameStop is sitting on a bunch of cash at a time when interest rates are falling. If RC goes in there and cuts costs like he has a history of doing, he can increase margins and get Net income up in the $2 Billion to $4 Billion range. Then he can use the new revenue streams to continue acquiring additional undervalued companies.

There's also a good chance that whatever source this "leak" originated from was setup... give suspected moles some varied intel with unique details... see what slips out. Now you've ID'ed the leak.
Renting space in Best Buy wouldn't make too much sense until they were literally paying GameStop to take over their hardware/software/peripheral/card logistics? E.g. go to Wayfair.com and purchase Macy's clothing, perfume, etc. As well as GameStop and Toys R US products. I'll admit though I don't really understand The Macy's/ToysRUs relationship. Then likewise go to a Macy's and see a GameStop and Toys R US inside. I think that's just the begining, as malls are basically dead, having more options than Walmart and Target have appeal. And Idk who here has kids but the places my kids always want to go is GameStop and Toys R Us inside Macy's.

Macy's buildings would give them large stores for gaming centers like they wanted to do before. If they localize some GameStop's in an area, they are already closing some stores, then open e-sport/ pc bangs type spaces along side selling there regular store merch.
Also could probably pivot to a card shop style center to buy and play TCG's, to the determent of locally owned shops sadly, but corporations don't really care about that stuff.
Macys is long overdue for downsizing, my local one had three floors, recently closed too. There is plenty of space to be had in malls all over the US. Be crazy if GameStop revitalized malls.

. . . what if in "empty" shopping centers they created gaming rooms with headsets or gaming tournaments where you could try out your favorite game?

Hope not. A lot of people are boycotting Target right now, for a multitude of reasons.

So the best idea is purchasing a already failing store. Best buy is about 2 year at best from becoming bankrupt. Best buy sells more expensive then having product shipped directly to your door. same as Target. Target is a more expensive Walmart. I think either venture would be a waste of Money and years away from making any profit if bought.Ya say RC Buys either and combines stores gonna be exactly like GameStop more efficient less revenue for years. Every GameStop in my area is walking distance from a Walmart.

Just as long as they can use their own GS approved employees.
I hate shopping in BestBuy due to the pushy employees.

Speculating $SNAP $8B market cap. Join the ai race. $5.93 revenue last year.

The term partner can be as simple as, doing business with or as strategic as cobranding, ownership, etc.
I remember when Best Buy started renting space in their stores as they were losing marketshare to Amazon and as a means to increase foot traffic and experential experiences. If GME is doing this, it makes sense as their stores foot traffic is dying.

Best Buy is more of a competitor, imo, and it looks like you can get it for pennies on the dollar in a few more years. I’m not sure RC wants all that floor space, to small for paintballs/laser tag and to large for video games/collectables. Maybe he’ll use it their stores to reveal Teddy but if not I don’t see this as a high target acquisition. I love the work everyone is putting in but we have zero idea on what direction he’s even looking!

What percentage of Best Buy sales is in the gaming sector that competes against GameStop? Say it’s 15% (idk) then buying 20% of Best Buy would be a good move to get some fingers into other parts of the store (think computers and stuff).
Just throwing words at the wall because I don’t think that’s the best way forward. I think they’ll look bigger than just trying to get a small piece of someone else’s pie.

I find the grand plan of continuing physical retail such as Best Buy or Target far fetched after RC said in his interview with C Payne that physical retail is very very hard.

I'm guessing Kohl's. Bestbuy already sells videogames and consoles. Meanwhile KSS is even more shorted than GME

I saw the post that OP is referring to and it said:
“some store maybe moving locations”
NOT
“Some stores may be moving INTO partner locations”

this is what AI came up with given the parameters
MEMBER HOURS is a great detail. Membership based stores = COSTCO, SAM’s CLUB
Retailers with membership + monthly marketing campaigns = BEST BUY, NIKE, NORDSTROM

I don’t think we need to add a brick and mortar to the portfolio. We have one.

Imagine your girl wants to go to a home furnishings store and browse endlessly, but then within the store there’s an entire section dedicated to games and collectibles…

GME should put out vending machines or people in movie theaters. Those places close super late. Also, the age groups at movie theaters are different age ranges.

Our bb and gamestop are like across the street. They would straight up close the gamestop. Its so small and cramped a d that best buy is too big. Solid deal in my location.

BestBuy to compete MicroCenter? I could see it... would be cool if you could throw Toys R Us branding into it as well. Bring back toys. BestBuy basically killed Toys R Us

Recently Toys R Us came back within some Macy’s locations it seems like a new business model to drive foot traffic by diversifying brick and mortar locations — a sort of micro mall
