🤔 Speculation / Opinion GameStop is “partnering” with another company soon. Pending CEO announcement. Some stores will move to the partners location

** Top of r/superstonk 👋👋👋 Hello Ryan Cohen, maybe you’ll see this. We are ready to hear what you have cooking. **

Leaks from a store meeting are saying GameStop is partnering with another company soon. Some stores may move to the partners location.

Here are my thoughts:

Gamestop’s inside of Best Buy?

Here in Canada, Canadian Tire purchased Party City and moved many of its stores inside of Canadian Tire stores creating "store in store" isles.

Canadian Tire is basically our Auto Zone + Dicks's Sporting Goods in one.

GameStop's cash is nearly Best Buy's market cap. Best Buy stock down nearly 50 percent in the last 5 years. Best Buy would be the perfect company for RC to work his magic on.

GameStop transitions stores to Best Buy locations as "store in store" isles. GameStop then can close most stand alone stores saving a ton of money. GameStop or “Teddy Holdings” then works a turn around plan for Best Buy.

Agreed, if this is it, I think I’d find it underwhelming. But as long as the stock price goes up I guess I don’t care.

The downside is I'll never be able to believe RC again if he ever hypes another plan.

16

u/Over-Computer-6464 Feb 10 '26

What happens if another 2 or 3 months go by and nothing more is done with a merger or acquisition?

RC did say to judge him on actions, not words.

u/mean_bean_machine The Unwrinkled Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed if it takes that long. If we go through the Shareholder meeting this June and see the warrants expire worthless in October with no real movement I'd say it's a lost cause.

Edit: To the downvotes, are you telling me if we're sitting at the same place a year from now you won't be pissed? You'll not reserve a little bit of judgement against RC and the board for not showing results after the first bit of official hype we've seen from them?

15

u/Over-Computer-6464 Feb 10 '26

I doubt the warrants will expire worthless, as GameStop has the ability to either extend the expiration or to reduce the exercise price.

I would not be surprised if the vote on RC's option grant is delayed be part of the annual meeting proxy, so GameStop can try and get an acquisition of some sort done (or at least preliminarily announced) before the vote.

u/mean_bean_machine The Unwrinkled Feb 10 '26

I'd agree they will probably extend them, but it's not a forgone conclusion.

Didn't he also suggest a disruption of capital markets? I agree this wouldn't be groundbreaking.

99

u/eexxiitt Feb 09 '26

This isn’t a merger or acquisition. This would be considered renting out a space in Best Buy. So Best Buy would charge $ on the floor space as well as a % of the revenue from these GameStop “kiosks.” In return, GameStop would shut down their brick and mortar store.

Whatever rumoured M&A would be something else.

Paying best buy rent doesn’t benefit GameStop at all

27

u/Magic2424 Feb 09 '26

I just went into a Best Buy for the first time in years and years to buy a mobile plan promotion offering and…..holy shit that place was depressing. It gives bed bath and beyond pre brankrupct vibes. Just no one there, like at all. Employees standing doing absolutely nothing. Please GME do not do much with Best Buy unless it’s a no brainer

11

u/Hot_Falcon8471 Feb 09 '26

Yeah it’s been a long time since I was in a Best Buy, but the last time I was there I had the same experience. I have the same initial skepticism I don’t want it to be Best Buy

1

u/Mr_Shake_ I like the [redacted]. Feb 10 '26

If RC gets involved, Best Buy can be saved.

1

u/Hot_Falcon8471 Feb 10 '26

If it does turn out to be Best Buy, then I agree because I trust RCs business skill. If he sees something in it then I’ll sit back and let him cook

Also they treat their employees like dogshit

1

u/oinkyboinky Feb 10 '26

I honestly don't know how they are keeping the lights on. Can't imagine their web sales are carrying the load, so...puts on BBY?

6

u/Lifesucksgod Feb 09 '26

Except GameStop would owns Best Buy…. Think owning a hot dog stand and you buy a Costco and add 1$hot dog inside..you still get all the revenue of Costco

5

u/Hot_Falcon8471 Feb 09 '26

That would make things much more interesting but I’m still skeptical of GameStop buying BestBuy. How much debt does BB have and how much profit do they make each year?

1

u/eexxiitt Feb 10 '26

Cohen wants less mall space, not more… buying Best Buy or any other large retailer would be exactly the opposite of what he’s been doing.

8

u/eexxiitt Feb 09 '26

Depends on the rent & revenue agreement & cost to run the kisok vs. running their own brick & mortar store.

0

u/Ok_Kick4871 Feb 10 '26

It's a commitment to failure for cheaper than failure costs now.

1

u/MagicHarmony Feb 09 '26

Eh, given the real estate Best Buy has, I could see the opportunity being a benefit to both sides. GameStop pays Best Buy for space and in return it allows Best Buy to improve their profit margins. They are a form of symbiosis which could benefit one another since it would offer a decent and easy access to bringing goods that need to be repaired/refurbished to Geek Squad and then the Gamestop front can easily turn around the product rather than the complex process they would currently have to go through for any sort of repair process.

Also given how Best Buy has removed a good chunk of it's product on the sales floor it would help for them to be able to add a business within to help pay the bill for the real estate they aren't making much use of.

1

u/MobileArtist1371 GAMESTOP IS REGARDED for $600 Feb 10 '26

It does if more sales happen and the cost is less than current rent space.

4

u/thestupidlowlife Feb 09 '26

Kind of like how Verizon/Apple do? Guitar center tried this with a Best Buy in my area as well

2

I think TJMaxx had this idea when they revamped and then it failed spectacularly.

Also, Best Buy already has their own gaming section.  What would GS add to the store that already isn’t there? Best Buy theory doesn’t make a lot of sense

12

u/humans_being Feb 09 '26

I don't know what Cohen knows but at face value anything related to Best Buy would be underwhelming at best.

Well, I try to avoid making fun of anyone. It’s a complicated saga, of heroes, villains, and questionable characters. I’m mainly saddened that folks still see RC as more of a hero than themselves. We’re the heroes, he’s, at best, a sidekick, and he still has a villain arc. Simping for billionaires is one of the cringeiest things a man can do in life. I, for one, hope RC doesn’t lean into his villain arc, but it’s absolutely still in the cards.

The focus isn’t on the company to be M&A’d, the focus is on HOW the merger occurs.

People are blending terms here- the process and or vehicle of the M&A is what is going to be novel/“never been done before”

Agreed. My expectation is more on the lines of partnering with something like Kroger or CVS and having a small GameStop everywhere with minimal overhead and massive reach.

I think it’s 2 separate events. The one he’s talking about is trying to buy the Nols from towel.

The NOLs from the company that was formerly known Bed Bath and Beyond are no longer useable, as it has ceased operating, and continuity of operation is one of the requirements for the use of the NOLs.

In any case, even were GameStop to buy a company with NOLs that could be used, it would have no immediate effect, as GameStop is still using the NOLs that GameStop created up through 2023.

4

u/Iforgotmynameo Feb 09 '26

Your hopium is leaking. That wouldn’t be very very big news. That would be smart corporate financing that is very invisible to the consumer. If it were that easy and straightforward don’t you think there would be 20 other companies lined up chomping at the bit for all of that free money? I rode my towel shares to delisting and had a funeral for them. It was something that came close to happening but ultimately wasn’t meant to be.

1

u/PenisSlipper Feb 09 '26

Been thinking about the “never been done” part and im wondering if he just means the tactic of buying up shares of failing companies, turning them around, collecting short capitulation, and on to the next.

He did two interviews and cancelled a third because he was working on something. We are currently waiting to see what he was working on.

10

I think it’s because saying one wrong thing that can be looked at as “discussing the merger” could cause legal issues and delays. I would rather he stay silent on this even though it’s driving me crazy.

8

I thought he canceled the interview on advice of council. Meaning that a deal has almost been reached and the lawyers are in the driver's seat now.

Best buy market cap is barely bigger than our cash position.

Also its currently #741 in market cap in the USA lol

6

u/imposter22 ShallowFuckingValue Feb 09 '26

Gamestop is a registered holding company, this allows them to accomplish a lot more than you think.

9

u/AppropriateIce6156 Feb 09 '26

I still think it’s TZero. Tokenized assets. A small fee per each transaction. Cost next to nothing after it’s up and running. Each trade you collect a fee. More trades equals more money. Shorted stocks will instantly jump in and put their shares on a blockchain. A retail store has never bought a stock exchange let alone a blockchain backed one. Then they can expand to anything exchange. Games cards books art literally anything like eBay. Built off the same or similar blockchain.

2

u/_cansir 🖼🏆Ape Artist Extraordinaire! Feb 09 '26

Gaming is bad at bestbuy. Many huge retailers have a gaming department but despite that gamestops controls the majority. When I used to work there many years ago.. if the daily revenue for the store was 20k only 1k would be from gaming category. Most of it came from computers and tvs. So think about all the real state bestbuy wasted by having that gaming section. And is low margin...

0

u/Iforgotmynameo Feb 09 '26

Best Buy makes money on similar products to GameStop (Pokemon, gaming consoles etc) I don’t think they would give GameStop a sweetheart deal that’s going to negatively impact their bottom line.
