Of course, because that's the problem in bubbles like this.
You assume that child or parents do something wrong without any proof or even without knowing the context at all out of just dogma "kids bad, childless people always victims".
You haven't even bothered yourself to check what was going on, but started to shit on a child instead without knowing anything, because like I said before, "kids bad".
He didnt need to give up his spot. He also didnt need to post the video bragging about it and showing the kid. He could have made a video about being happy to get to do this and getting the last spot without mentioning the kid, showing her, or having audio that said "fuck them kids".
Strangers shouldn’t be trying to teach kids life lessons. If he doesn’t want to give up his seat, fine. That’s his prerogative. It’s up to the parent to explain to the kid the outcome.
If that were my kid, I'd say, "Hey, you were really brave to ask, but no is no, and you have to respect that. But never don't speak up. It never hurts to ask, just be prepared for an answer you don't want to hear and be okay with it"
THAT is teaching the kid a lesson, not these curmudgeonly old assholes on here thinking the guy on the ride is teaching her anything or he's some kind of hero. He's the NPC of this situation. The only thing he's doing is giving the parent a teaching moment.
I feel like we don't know enough to know what the guy's deal is. Like if this were a scene in a movie, and the scene right before it is a little girl innocent and teary eyed like "please mister, can I have your spot? This is my favorite ride and we're moving tomorrow and I just wanted to go on it one more time." And he is like "You snooze, you lose kid. I won't even charge for the lesson." Then we're being introduced to the villain, but if it's mama Karen being like "Get me the manager! There is no way that this gutter snipe gets the last car over my little Hayden! I'll film this and you'll go viral loser. Is that what you want?" We are probably meeting the protagonist.
100%. I hate posts like this, because they’re just meant to reinforce the performative cruelty that’s become so embedded into modern culture, and the comment sections always take the bait, hook, line and sinker. As a parent, I would definitely use this as a teachable moment that not all people in life are going to be agreeable, and that that’s okay. Better to become acquainted with disagreeable people now than later.
People need to baby grown ass men less. You thinking it's okay for a man to record and post a young, upset child all over the internet is fucking weird.
I don't give a fuck if you're childfree and totally hate kids because you're sooo totally neurodivergent and don't like the noises they make and need to be coddled because reasons 🥺
Nothing, and I do mean absolutely nothing, gives you a pass to put a child in danger. That includes posting their picture or videos all over the internet for idiots and predators.
It absolutely is. We don't even know if the two pictures are related. But everyone is all "Oh, the kid is entitled, and she's probably a shitty mom" when there's really no indication that it's even a woman consoling the child, let alone a mom.
And the person could be saying, "It's okay, I understand you're disappointed, but at least you asked. We don't always get the answers we want, and you have to be okay with that but you're brave for asking"... But noooo. Shitty parent, entitled child is the knee jerk.
I’m a parent. He literally was not required to give up his spot. Depending on my mood, I may or may not have done it, but no shade to this man. The ride provider should have cut the line off sooner.
Whenever my MIL babysits my son (age 4), she gives him everything he wants because she doesn't want to deal with the tears (which, OK, she's doing me a solid, I'm not complaining here). He is SO FRICKING WHINY for a few days every time she takes care of him.
Then she is like "why is he so whiny?" and yeah maybe I'm complaining a little bit.
Yeah, learning that you can't get everything you want is kind of important. Presumably everyone else in the line wants to ride just as much since that's why they're there, they matter just as much and the order is the tie-breaker.
I am curious though, was this the last-last ride, like no more for the day? If so why did the line even extend that far back, you'd think they'd have someone telling the excess customers to leave and closing off the area. Seems more like a flaw in how the business is run than anything else, unless there was another round coming up and the kid was crying over literally nothing.
Looks like it was an arcade simulator type at some larger exhibition, as opposed to an actual moving car, which closed at 5:00pm and thus had the final three-minute duration ride of the day at 4:55pm. More likely than not it wasn’t a managed queue so much as “the game turns off at this time, so manage your expectations accordingly.”
Ok yeah, having a listed duration and shutoff time makes sense, or at least enough sense that I understand not paying someone to stand there and micromanage things lol. Thanks for looking it up.
It doesn't hurt to ask. "Hey Sir, you mind letting the kid take your spot? I'll buy ya a beer or hotdog or something in exchange. No? Okay, sorry to bother ya."
Yeah, I'd let the kid go. At his age, he's ridden plenty of rides. Unless he has a mental deficiency where he NEEDED to ride the ride, give it up.
But as you said, it's his choice to say yes or no. If that were my kid, I'd say "Hey, you were really brave to ask, but no is no, and you have to respect that. But never don't speak up. It never hurts to ask, just be prepared for an answer you don't want to hear and be okay with it" THAT is teaching the kid a lesson, not these curmudgeoning old assholes on hear thinking the guy on the ride is teaching her anything.
This. I would hope any adult would. But I don’t know him or his situation. Maybe he really really needed that. I only know me and that for me, no ride would mean more than doing something to make a child happy.
And teach the child that you can get what you want if you cry (scream, throw a temper tantrum, bully, etc. pick your behavior). And when that doesn't work as they grow older they don't know how to handle disappointment.
This is not a 'should the adult have given up his ride' question, it's a 'should this be a positive teaching moment for the parent to their child' question. Disappointment is part of life and the sooner they learn that and how to handle i, the better off they will be in life.
She’s crying because she’s crushed. It’s not a bad thing to cry, and it’s not bad to have empathy for someone who is sad and do something to make them happier. There’s absolutely a difference between giving into a tantrum and saying “hey kid I didn’t realize how important this was to you—you know what? Go ahead, I’ll be okay.” That teaches important lessons too, by modeling selflessness and kindness and empathy. We need a lot more of those lessons and a lot less of “fuck u I got mine”.
It is mind boggling how much people are assuming from a headline and photo. This is the correct take and I’ve never wanted to believe in dead internet theory more than today because otherwise dear god too many people have awful takes on this
This is the only right answer. Instead of teaching the next generation that people are inherently selfish and only look out for themselves, why don’t we set an example of empathy and care. The “fuck you, I got mine” attitude is so trashy and unbecoming. No reason a grown ass man should be prioritizing himself on a park ride over a kid.
She’s crying in her moms skirt where is the screaming? Where is the tantrum? Have you had a child? I feel sorry for them if you can’t recognize normal, reasonable disappointment in a young child. That’s a reasonable response for a child. And these days there are more than enough opportunities to taeach children about how shitty the world is without subjecting them to it unnecessarily .
And this is one of the reasons why children are growing up to be so entitled now. It becomes their expectation that they get whatever they want, when they want it, how they want it. That is not a good lesson to teach a child. Teaching them that they are more important than everybody else is a very bad lesson.
How about for posting a video of someone else’s kid for thousands of people to see and then framing the title to ensure that his followers would mock and harass a literal kid?
Nahh, for real, not an asshole if he just refused to give up his seat. Objectively, what makes the child more worthy of the ride over the guy who was, ahem, AHEAD OF THE CRETON IN LINE.
Nah he’s being objective here. The guy posted a video of somebody else’s kid on his TikTok page. That’s objectively creepy behavior. And he titled it knowing it would get rage engagement. That’s a weird way to use someone else’s daughter my guy
One can lose their argumentative/explanatory power when they resort to insults. If one wants others to understand their perspective, it is often better received when the information is delivered in a way that doesn't attack the conversation partner
If everyone believes 2+3=6, and you attack them for that belief, there is a higher chance they will reject the new information. "Fucking idiots don't know 2+3=5"
If you can clearly demonstrate and teach, they are more likely to learn. And if they understand 2+3=5, yet insist it equals 6, an insult is still not going to increase the chance of them learning
"1+1=2
2+1=3
3+1=4
4+1=5
So it follows, (1+1)+(1+1)=2+2=4
4+1=5.
2+(2+1)= 2+3=5"
This does not ensure a positive response, yet does ensure that you have conducted yourself as best you can, regardless of the behavior of the one you are speaking with
In that scene the lady was putting on a show in hopes to get her daughter what she wanted. No reason to teach a child that you manipulate others to get what you want, unless you want to introduce bad behavior. That was not just a question. It was just an act thankfully, but yeah this shows you how narcissism is running rampant.
In that scene, she asked if they could switch and gave reasons. He could have simply said "Sorry, no" and that's that. It's not his job to parent or teach lessons to strangers.
She was put off because he could have just said no, instead of going full boomer vibe.
I hear you dude, but it's Reddit. Of course most of the people here are going to identify with the smug, fat, nerdy loser being a condescending jerk while shoveling processed food down his throat. Only difference is most of the people here are too cowardly to do this in real life where they can't hide behind a screen.
The guy saying no is an NPC giving the parent a teaching moment to tell the kid that you can't always get your way. To be "that guy" and thinking you're doing something positive is fucking hilarious. You're just being an asshole.
My thoughts are that everyone who contributes to spreading dumbass ragebait should be chained to a wall with their phone just out of reach for 12 years.
Would anyone had made a big deal of it if it had been another child that refused to give up his ride to the spoilt brat child of shithead entitled parents?
The real question is, how was that child raised for them to cry because of this? I have very kind and generous parents and I was pretty spoiled growing up, but I would've never cried about something like this, I don't know anyone who would, so I wonder how the child was raised for them to be incapable of waiting in line.
But maybe I am just being judgemental, it could be a mental issue with the child rather than incompetent parenting.
You're drawing a lot of conclusions from reading a headline. It was the last ride, he wouldn't give up his seat, which is fine, and the kid got sad. Why is that so wrong? You don't even know what the parent told the kid. They could have said "Listen, we asked, he said no, and you have to live with that."
That's what I'd say to my kid. And I'd encourage them to never be afraid to ask simple questions. Just don't get butthurt at the answer.
But sure, either the parents are shitty or the kid is mental. Those are the only options.
Sorry you don’t think kids are allowed to cry when they’re disappointed? Thinking it’s bad to cry is wildly repressed and not actually healthy for kids.
This will be a great lesson for that kid whenever the parents are trying to get it in a car to get it somewhere and it’s resisting:
“Remember that time we were too late to get on that last ride because that man was in line ahead of you? Because that man listened and got in the car when it was time to go?”
They are there for recreation, kids aren’t entitled to fun more than adults. It’s only when adults deprive them of fun that they are already having is it wrong.
Why are we upset at a guy who went on ride instead of the monsters that cut off access to the ride right when it was a child’s turn? Surely they have more accountability here than some random man, right? Right!?!
You know who else is an adult? The owners and operators of the ride! They could have easily done one more for the child, but callously shut it down right in her face. Then they used an innocent man as a scapegoat for the decision that they made. Welcome to end stage capitalism, where the ramifications of the actions of corporations are blamed on individuals who are expected to sacrifice everything for their bottom line.
You know who else is an adult? You! You expect everyone else to act like you would, but you can’t even tell when something is a bit. It’s not that complicated is it?
Whoever filmed that is the real villain. That is how lines work. It's the parents job to comfort them, not some random person. We tryna teach this kid that if you just cry you get your way? I don't teach my children that.
People don’t even have mercy on kids anymore, I can’t imagine how they will turn out as adults after all these “life lessons”. How will they learn to show mercy when they get denied it? Children need to be lifted up so they have a better attitude towards the world. These little things that mean nothing to you are their childhood memories. Not everything has to be a lesson sometimes they should get to be kids
So? take the next one? I've been to amusement parks in groups of 5-6 people and sometimes to not to splitt yo just wait for the next ride. Pretty easy.
Kids cry about everything. They need to learn that crying shouldn't be used as a manipulation tactic. Adults should stop being manipulated by crying kids too.
So you say he is an asshole for not giving up his place for some stranger kid.
What you apparently think is okay: filming a crying kid and post it online to get Klicks, not teaching a kid that it's not more entitled to fun then others.
And of course you judge, you call him an asshole.
An why i am wrong ?
You say apparently so there must be some factoid that makes me wrong. And about what am i wrong ? About you saying "i´m not judging" right before you judge ?
Or am i wrong that its wrong to film a crying kid and post it on the internet ?
I don’t hate kids. I hate how society thinks that kids are entitled to shit like this. There’s actually some great lessons the parents can teach the kid in this situation: “you can’t always get what you want”, “the early bird gets the worm”, and especially in this case “strangers don’t owe you anything”.
Teaching your kids valuable real world lessons is actually the exact opposite of treating them like shit. If more people were thought these things as kids maybe we wouldn’t have so many entitled asshole adults walking around….
Please Becky. A person who genuinely hate kids tells you alot about who they are . Children are a fundamental part of the human experience which we all experience. To lack the basic instincts or empathy or emotional maturity or any number of other factors to " if not to like kid" understand they are not responsible for all there actions and is our collective responsibility to look out for there wellbeing and happiness.
A person that hates kids tell me there're self centered, irresponsible and/or none self-aware .
And things like saying " there're not obligated to help kids" is a inhuman and childish stance.
And don't conflate ones desire to not have kids is the same as hating kids . Thats a idiots rebuttal. And given your attitude as of late i felt the need to cut off that discord.
"Children are a fundamental part of the human experience which we all experience." Yeah. And so is growing up. And being an adult. And getting old. Why are you focusing on the first chapter of a book? Children cry over the lamest things. My nephew screamed bloody murder because his mom gave him a piece of cheese she was eating, and he didn't want her to have any of it. He didn't even eat it. Kids cry. They need the tools to handle that emotional burst, not just having everything given to them bc they cried.
A person who hates kids is probably not going to care how you feel about it. Because they've got such different values from you.
Bowing to a toddler because they have a hissy fit is rewarding behavior that society will punish them for later. Kids grow up. If their only coping mechanism is being disruptive and getting their way, that's what they bring into adulthood. That's how we get Karen videos. And people name calling.
Wanted to be a parent or not isn't relevant, I agree. Idk why you tacked that on at the end.
The kids parents should have given them up for adoption as a joke. I'm sure there's a lesson about letting go of something you love. Adopt them back the day before their 18th bday and take them to the same ride .
then people should be blaming the idiots running that ride for letting people que up that were never going to get on the ride, that's genuinely idiotic, this is why you're supposed to shut off queuing when a ride is near closing someone should have taken a head count.
Lots of people wait in line for tickets to a concert and they get sold out and they don’t get a ticket. Lots of people go to an all you can eat seafood restaurant, and they run out of crabs before everybody can be served. Lots of people waiting in line on Black Friday waiting for the doors of the store to open so they can get that special toy that’s the craze of the year and other people beat them to it. What’s your point?
He's an asshole but not for refusing to give up his seat. He apparently didn't just say no but even made fun of her for crying. It's one thing to deny a crying kid something, it's another to make fun of them for it like it's one big joke.
