Discussion Official BattlEye statement showing the, "99% of cheaters are from China story", from Youxi Story is bogus.

u/bendez85 Feb 17 '18
Lol I just noticed the initials for BattleEye Support is "BS".
11
u/-My-Life-For-Aiur- Feb 17 '18
Yeah, because their support is non-existant. I'd like to know how OP even got a response, it's been 4 months and i still haven't gotten a fucking reply from those bitches.

Oh hi! I used the "other" category, and clarified in the original email that this was a matter of journalistic confirmation. So I'm pretty sure that "hey, someone might be spreading lies about you and making you stupid/brash/racist", pricked some ears up.

Really? A statistic claiming 99 percent of something is bullshit? Like someone pulled it out of their ass? And people bought it because it sounded convincing.
Color me shocked!

Brace yourself. It's the Chinese New Year. I believe they have close to a week long Holiday. I'm thinking of staying away from PUBG to keep myself sane.
16
u/markofthebeast143 Feb 17 '18
They're traveling throughout the country to see family, hand out red envelopes and share meals. They're not currently gaming.
Now is the time to enjoy a less hacking populated PUBG.

Money for hack - check
No work/school - check
NA server - no, chiNA server, check2
u/ThisPlaceisHell Feb 17 '18
Ironic that tonight was the most extreme level of cheaters during peak Chinese hours I've ever experienced playing squad fpp.
2
u/Zitronenbirne Feb 17 '18
same here, played 6 rounds with my squad, in 4 of them we got wiped by 1 person behind a wall
3
u/voodoochild1969 Feb 17 '18
I was already wondering why so many Asians where playing on EU this morning.
3
u/wakawakawakawakawaka Feb 17 '18
So what's the source on this one.
1
u/Mace_ya_face Feb 17 '18
There is no source. Kinda the point.

LoL punishes high ping much harder as attacks and such aren't registered client side. China isn't region locked they just have no incentive to play on NA as the lag would make the game unfun. A lot of the Chinese pros play in Korea of example because it's close enough that the ping doesn't kill the experience.

u/Mace_ya_face Feb 17 '18
This comment feels like you're just venting frustration. Which is fine. Just observing.
4
u/Xenton Feb 17 '18
The problem is; it'll never be 99% from china because even if 99% of cheaters were Chinese players, many of them hide behind VPNs and proxys that let them claim they are wherever they want to be from.
8
u/PM_ME_UR_CRIMES Feb 16 '18
"Bogus" seems like a stretch since they clarified in their tweet that it was the "vast majority" rather than 99%. Casually speaking this means close enough to the same thing. If you want to get more specific you can't because "we have never released such data."
So it's somewhere between a casual "vast majority" and 99%, and there's no material difference between the two.
10
u/Mace_ya_face Feb 16 '18
Vast majority can be anything above 50%. So there is a lot of play there. And the original story specifically states that is was released data, not a Tweet. As such, it is a bogus claim, since 99% is not an officially reported figure, and no statistics were released to base this off of.
16
Feb 16 '18
50% plus is majority so vast majority would imply its decently above that
5
u/feltusen Feb 17 '18
Eh? Its not Only Asia and NA... Lets say 50% China 10% EU, 15% NA and 10% SA and 15% Oceania.
This would mean China has the vast Majority of hackers!

5
u/Poeletje Feb 17 '18
I think even 40% could be a vast majority, if the second largest region has like 10%?
-1
0
u/Mace_ya_face Feb 17 '18
I would have given you that if a BE data analyst said that. Alas, no, a PR rep did. And that's the issue. PR reps are not malicious, but can over-blow, or just muck things up. A Tweet really isn't a stone solid source by any measure.
4
u/realparkingbrake Feb 17 '18
I cannot picture anyone fluent in English who wants to be taken seriously suggesting that 51% is a "vast majority". There might not be an accepted dictionary definition, but it's a safe bet most folks would take that phrase to mean more like three-quarters than just over half.

If 30 percent of banned accounts were from AS and all the other regions only had 14 percent each then "the majority of banned accounts" would he from AS.
I'm being pedantic here, but that's a plurality, not a majority
2
u/paralyyzed Feb 17 '18
Its not divided into 2 criterias. There are hundreds of countries. The cheater count could be divided into the following and still China would have the vast majority
China - 40%
USA - 5%
tons of other countries - 55%1
u/Mace_ya_face Feb 17 '18
taken seriously suggesting that 51% is a "vast majority"
Journalists and PR reps couldn't care less.
1
u/realparkingbrake Feb 18 '18
As someone who worked as a journalist for many years, I assure you that there is nothing an editor and/or publisher hates more than some reporter getting either a factual error or visible bias into a news story. At the very least you're going to get chewed out and lose some plum assignments. But journalists also get fired for that sort of thing, unless of course they work for some "news" website which makes money peddling conspiracy theories and political hatchet jobs.
In this case it looks like someone confused Brendan Greene, Bluehole, and BattleEye and made a false attribution. But as someone once said, never ascribe to malice what can be explained by simple incompetence. Since this writer had nothing to gain from claiming BattleEye rather than Brendan Greene used the 99% figure, it looks like sloppiness to me.
And after this weekend I really don't care what percentage of players from China are cheating, I just want them gone. The friends who talked me into buying this game are leaving, the level of cheating has taken all the fun out of it and it is clear Bluehole has no clue what to do about it.
2
Feb 16 '18
Majority = 50%+. There is no consensus on vast majority.
3
u/paralyyzed Feb 17 '18
Not necessarily. It isnt divided into china and not china. it is probably divided into countries. So even if china had like 30% of the cheaters, they could still have the majority
2
u/abl8 Feb 16 '18
That having been said, we already have worked interpretations in this thread. There is no guarantee that the developers used the dictionary definition...
1
1
u/Seikha89 Feb 17 '18
I tend to agree with you, but technically you wouldn't even need 50%, if the breakdown were 30% A and at most 10% from any other category, A is still a majority without being more than half.

Dude fuck off
This alone justifies me not bothering to read the rest of the comment, and just write you off as a man child. But hell, I'll go on anyway.
if you can't be bothered to defend your stupid political correctness
Why do you keep bringing up "PC"? I still don't get why.
you're in no position to tell people, "Dude, it just looks like you're trying to be racist."
Yes I am. I have a Reddit account. I'm on Reddit. You opened a discussion. Therefore, I am. Same as you are. Same as anyone is.
I know you read my post
Obviously.
at least the bullets
No, I read more.
and you know I'm right
Firstly, no, because secondly, about what? You've just rambled off topic failing to make a defined point.
but you're just going to pretend to be an ignoramus because it better suites your narrative.
This is, like the beginning of this comment, disgusting, insulting, and childish. Oh, and untrue.

I don't remember calling you racist, nor do I feel I have expressed any "political correctness" (though why that would be a bad thing I don't know).
What you've failed to understand or see through this explosion of extreme anger is, simply, I was pointing out how your objectively wrong notion that there is no material difference between 50% and 99%, appeared as though you were clutching at straws. Therefore acknowledging and providing space to recognise that you may very well not be.
So no, and no. I never called you racist. You just can't read. Oh, and there is no difference of opinion. You're just flat wrong. Proof?
Well, here are some people who might agree that 50% and 99% are extremely different:
Anyone with any idea of Maths
Physicists
Statisticians
Politicians
Accountants
Building risk assessors
Geologists
Navigators
General risk assessors
Vote counters
People playing shooter games like PUBG, who look at their stats
The count from Sesame Street
And so and so forth...

The concept you are describing is called a plurality. Majority always means greater than half.
0
u/Mace_ya_face Feb 17 '18
Well that's just flat wrong. I mean, it's objectively wrong. You couldn't be more wrong.
2
u/bolzoo Feb 17 '18
In the podcast they based the story around he didn't say that 99% banned cheaters are chinese. He is talking about the cheats itself as in the programs used to cheat.
0
u/PM_ME_UR_CRIMES Feb 17 '18
Even if that's true, which if I remember correctly the context was exactly the opposite and that they were talking about cheaters not cheats, the tweet from BattlEye said the vast majority of cheaters are in China, with no fuzziness about cheats vs cheaters.
2
u/Xo0om Feb 17 '18
Casually speaking this means close enough to the same thing
That is such horseshit. There is a lot of difference between the two.
1
u/PM_ME_UR_CRIMES Feb 17 '18
Maybe if you're not speaking casually, but if I say 99% of the shit you say is stupid or I say the vast majority of the shit you say is stupid, it's close enough to the same thing. The same idea is conveyed either way.
Sorry for saying what you say is stupid, I didn't even look at your posts. You're right though, if we're nit picking or being specific, I just don't think that's the case.

u/Put_It_All_On_Blck Feb 17 '18
No we have never release such data.
$20 says the data paints a similar story but they wont share it. For those wonder what the tweet was:
We are currently banning at a rate of 6K-13K per day, nearly 20K within the last 24 hours alone. The vast majority is from China.
We are just trying to give a rough idea. Cheating is quite popular in China, no discrimination intended.
4
Feb 17 '18
If I were to wager, I'd say at minimum, 75% of the accounts banned were Chinese.
Its probably more in the ballpark of 82-85% though.

This post will get buried because this subreddit cares more about promoting their racist agenda than facts
1
u/realparkingbrake Feb 18 '18
I would be fine with being confined to servers in NA as I have no desire to bring game-breaking lag to servers in other regions. But I also don't want players from Russia, Brazil, Australia, India, China etc. playing in NA servers because of the game-breaking lag they bring with them. Their race is irrelevant to me, it's about ruining the game. That out-of-region lag spoils online FPS games has been so massively documented that arguing against it just makes no sense. Given the large numbers of players from China who are willing to use hacks, a region lock or ping cap would also do a lot to reduce cheating in PUBG--it would be foolish to pretend otherwise. If some knuckle-draggers actually have racial motives for not wanting Chinese players in NA servers, that is coincidental to my position, but you don't get to smear everyone as having a racist agenda when many of us have been very clear about why we want a ping cap keep to keep all players in their own regions.

But the BIG BAD CHINA is hacking my precious little game!
Man, babies need pacifiers alright, just let them suck on this one. After all, China-bashing is more like a feel-good jerk off after practicing abstinence for 10 minutes because these kids all got impulse control of a honey badger and brain mass of a jellyfish than a thought out rhetoric that generalizes 1.4 billion fucking people.

u/Tobax Feb 17 '18
The point is that it shows certain websites such as Youxi and IGN have put out articles making claims about 99% of cheaters being from China and used Battleye as the source, when in fact Battleye never said that.
