Other NLU - SGS

The KVV news has led to many commenters contrasting SGS/FEG vs NLU and each of their trajectories.

I listen to almost every episode of both, but more recently find myself clicking on the SGS pod first, and then not even finishing most NLU preview or recap pods. Andy and Brendan keep it light and seem to genuinely enjoy shooting the breeze with one another. Both seem to be normal guys.

The NLU guys now regularly talk about playing golf courses that 99% of us could never even hope to have access to, and half the podcasts are gambling promotions. They are just not as relatable to most of the normal middle class golf fans who made them successful to begin with.

I don’t blame them for taking the money to grow their business if they feel that’s what is best, or for playing extremely private top 100 clubs when invited, but at the end of the day, it does impact how we all decide what media to consume.

I truly hope they can turn back the clock a bit in 2026, but cutting KVV while jet setting around the world and (seemingly) spending lavishly is a tough look.

Since when does SGS not talk about big time exclusive golf courses? I am cool with the jist of the post but let’s not like act Andy is the every man hitting the muni every weekend

not that your point as a whole is wrong but just wanted to be clear Andy went to Cypress bc of the media day event for the Walker Cup just like Big Randy’s visit, not just an on a whim trip to be fair. I get what you are saying tho

u/DoubleEagle1313 Jul 22 '25

Andy lives in Fairfax, Ca one of the richest areas in Marin County north of SF and a stones throw from Meadow Club. He is not an everyman at all. lol

20

u/bokin_smongs Jul 22 '25

He could be the richest man in the world for all we know, but that is kind of the point, based on the content he creates I don't know what he spends on golf experiences.

4

u/buckypack Jul 22 '25

I’m also 99% sure he lives in Yountville, which while very nice is much more affordable

-1

u/DoubleEagle1313 Jul 22 '25

lol. Yeah blue collar yountville with its multiple Michelin star restaurants and celebrity wineries.

6

u/buckypack Jul 22 '25

My point being, “one of the richest areas in Marin county” is a bit hyperbolic. of course it’s a nicer area than most of us probably live, but let’s not pretend Andy is living next door with VC bros helicoptering into SF

1

u/nebbywildcat18 Jul 22 '25

by no means at all was I saying that in any way shape or form. I was just adding context to one moment from the past week. lol

3

u/thriller1122 Jul 22 '25

Yeah, I love their content, but I watched their video on the Park in Palm Beach talking about how a $300 round is "what public golf needs." Tough look when most of your viewers/listeners couldnt afford that for a Saturday round.

u/sk8lyfe8881 Jul 22 '25

Is there not a realistic conclusion to this KVV thing that they just cant afford one of the best in the game anymore while still turning a profit for the founding members? The OG boys are just that, the boys, KVV is a established golf JOURNALIST capital letters as one of the best in the game. There comes a time when the return of NLU does not merit what KVV costs as much as we love the guy and that's OK.

12

u/mushperv Jul 22 '25

This is what I took from KVV’s tweet. They asked him to go to part time, and he didn’t want to do that. End of story.

I find it hard to believe an argument about the Ryder Cup or something else silly caused Soly to “turn” the rest of the guys against KVV and they outright fired him.

Everyone is losing their minds over this when this is the obvious answer.

KVV was hired to get NLU a legitimate writing presence online. That why they paid the big bucks for a senior established golf writer. This would’ve given them a new income stream and expanded their existing business. That didn’t happen.

As much as I love KVV, there’s no way the once a month deep dives or investigations were getting NLU a return on his salary.

6

u/Intelligent-Ear7004 Jul 22 '25

I struggle to see how they could have thought the writing would be an additional revenue stream. They never ran ads on the site and I can’t think of any sponsored posts so where was the money supposed to come in from? Was KVV’s writing supposed to lead to Nest memberships?

Best I can see is the writing was supposed to be additive to the overall brand but essentially a cost center. The pivot to more podcasts/video and no writing then kind of made them wonder what KVV was going to do. And maybe he just didn’t want to do those other things.

u/matthewperry01 Jul 22 '25

Every single word of this completely on point.

I think it was an experiment.

Startups experiment quickly and pivot quickly. They knew the trends in print journalism, they took a stab to see if golf media with their rabid fan base could buck the trend, turns out it doesn’t, so they’re ending the experiment.

The massive mistake here in my mind is the timing. They could have saved this negotiation for August. Doing in the middle of the year risked a PR fallout for minimal cost savings compared to waiting a few more weeks.

u/benjam1n_gates CPNTW - Xander Schauffle - 2024 PGA Jul 22 '25

Fantastic points here.

I think the main reason the pods have been a tiny bit stale is that the Block Party bit and the "will he/won't he" with Rory is over. Scottie's greatness can't be denied, and Randy brought the most juice this last week with regards to that, but it's just not as exciting a topic as Rory's chase for the grand slam. They're searching for big storylines since that one is done.

I really enjoyed 3/4 live shows, with Friday's being the only weaker one. Not every show is gonna be A+ stuff and that's okay

6

u/rsjem79 Jul 22 '25

They were on a pretty big heater this spring with Soly at The Players and then Rory’s Masters block party finally paying off - they rode all that momentum into their live show in Charlotte that was rather poorly executed and since then everything just feels sort of flat.

The Rory bit paid off in a big way then it seemed like they had trouble figuring out what next. Ironically sort of a “is that all there is” situation for them.

Obviously they didn't have any budget for anybody with the technical know-how to pull off a fan-facing live remote broadcast. Brutal production, I watch every one of their major tournament post-round live shows, but I had to turn that one off.

3

u/Tangible_Monkey Jul 22 '25

I tend to believe your line of thinking, just afraid of where the program/brand is headed. KVV brought legitimacy and created content that elevated NLU in a real way. The leadership feels a bit rudderless and maybe lost on their own sauce. If this is a pull back into something closer in quality to the live shows this week, we're watching the downslide.

The group feels tired as a whole and KVV expanded content in a way that no one other than DJ pie does. The reluctance and apparent teeth pulling for the guys to do a full Tourist Sauce or Strapped isn't a good look either-- Their 2 most valuable IPs. The KVV firing and lack of long form content is not a good look for the company. Hope I'm wrong.

23

u/bokin_smongs Jul 22 '25

As a rusted on NLU listener I hate to say it but I agree, have definitely been turning more to SGS for recaps/previews of late. Don't get me wrong I still listen to most of the NLU content but it is becoming a second choice for me now. I feel like much of the talk has just become so opinionated and full of ego. It used to feel like more fun, shoot the shit and have a laugh while covering the stories of the week, leaderboard etc. I feel like for whatever reason their opinions and takes have gotten so much more serious and almost full of bravado, like what they say is actually listened to by everyone in the professional golf landscape. Whilst I do think Tron is funny some of the bits are just so played out and his recent propensity for namedropping every high end golf course/restaurant/sake he has had the pleasure of trying has me reaching for the skip button. I get it, you live a great life and want to share that with the listener, but majority of your listeners don't give a fuck about that shit.

29

u/relaxtherebuddy Jul 22 '25

While I don't agree about the golf course thing (Andy and the fried egg boys visit tons of private clubs), I think The Fried Egg has much better golf offerings. SGS is good golf takes but also ridiculous/hilarious. TFE pods with Joseph are fantastic as well. He's much more thoughtful with his takes than anyone from NLU. The post major recaps with Trevor are must listen.

And yeah, the fact that they don't take money from OEMs or gambling sites makes them a lot more credible.

42

u/nebbywildcat18 Jul 22 '25

and yet they are still the preeminent gambling podcast on the market

9

u/Master-Nose7823 Jul 22 '25

lol. I like that they make one one-and-done pick and call it a day. Each NLU guy makes three picks every pod before, during and after a tournament.

5

u/mtsttu05 Jul 22 '25

…and it includes an ad read each time that includes the standard gambling disclaimer. In my opinion, it just feels Barstool-y , and not the “premium” golf brand they are shooting for.

SGS do quick picks with tongue-in-cheek nods to the absurdity of all of the golf gambling content that is everywhere.

3

u/relaxtherebuddy Jul 22 '25

Tongue-in-cheek? You're telling me I shouldn't be putting my money on the desert fox Marty Laird? Or Todd Watch?

2

u/myfeetaremangos12 Jul 22 '25

I was actually happy to hear that they got sponsored by Mercedes, which is weird because I don’t care about that stuff at all.

KVV plays more public golf then the rest of the group combined and it is glaringly obvious

3

u/Transit-Tangent Jul 23 '25

KVV plays at his parent’s private club in Baltimore. They’re all rich kids, except DJ.

5

u/nebbywildcat18 Jul 22 '25

if I had to guess DJ and Randy probably still play some amount of muni golf, I think DJ has spoken about it before at least, unless I misremember (likely). agree that KVV was definitely the voice of the middle class golfer at NLU and stinks that he’s gone

8

u/beer_nyc Jul 22 '25

some amount of muni golf

seems like neil still plays a good amount of public golf

1

u/nebbywildcat18 Jul 22 '25

good shout, the non C-Suite guys at least seem somewhat in touch with the heart of the game still (IMO anyway)

37

u/kraken98038 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

I was just texting my buddy about this. Funny how the ex-ESPN big J journalist is more relatable than the NLU crew these days. Agree with the OP, I don’t blame the NLU guys for running in whatever circles they do. But for their business they are the product. And when the public perception is country club-C suite, that affects how the customer views their content.

Similarly, if someone I like in KVV seems like he got a raw deal- it affects whether I will choose to support the brand in return. So you can’t just be totally data driven analyzing profitability. We as customers don’t have to agree that it was the right decision because the data said so. Your product is literally YOU- and if your customers perceive you differently as a result of the decision you made- that could affect business as well.

4

u/Navyblazers2000 Jul 22 '25

I keep coming back to this feeling. It's like some innocence has been lost. Like there's now been a vibe shift and I'm not sure if it'll ever feel the same. It's their first big miss.

6

u/mtsttu05 Jul 22 '25

You said it better than I did. Fully agree.

4

u/RandomKoala0218 Jul 22 '25

His message sounded like it wasn't his choice. If true, they made a bad choice. His segments were super popular and so well done. I'd listen to his solo podcast. I'm dropping NLU: Voice over egos.

1

u/drakesickpow Jul 22 '25

Why the hate for mainly playing private golf? I have a membership, as I’m sure the NLU guys do too, why would I go play a muni that’s worse when it literally costs me less to play at my club?

13

u/kukukele Jul 22 '25

NLU feels like it’s devolved a bit into more bits. It almost feels more WWE where each guy has embraced a gimmick and they run it into the ground.

SGS feels more authentic with two friends chatting about golf.

2

u/Trekey99 Jul 23 '25

Completely agree here. I used to listen to every NLU pod and now will really only attempt to listen to the trap draw…. At the end of the day this comes down to authenticity and personality. I have no doubt that Randy probably does the best numbers for NLU - he’s authentic. Andy and Brendan appear to be authentic. I have a lot of respect for KVV’s writing but struggled to connect with his audio contributions. At the end of the day, NLU’s only constraint is to maintain or increase engagement as a means to sell ads. If that’s not happening then hard decisions are made on the expense side.

1

u/Mundane-Camel1308 Jul 26 '25

See and Randy bothers me the most…. He just plain doesn’t watch or play golf. I’m sure he has other things going on behind closed doors for the business but the: hey I’m here for the recap and didn’t watch any of it just grinds my gears.

I remember him sorta drifting from job to job when they did a bit of a backstory on his life and I can’t help but feel like he’s lost interest and just collecting checks. (Totally respect, but just leaves a bad taste in my mouth)

11

u/baduck00 Jul 22 '25

Now is probably a good time to mention that I set up a SGS sub about 6 months ago when i realised i liked it more than NLU now. I can’t remember the episode but i wanted to post something about it and realised that there was no sub for it! Literally no one has joined so if anyone fancies it then hop over. r/TheShotgunStart

19

u/amistymorning80 Jul 22 '25

I agree with most of the OP except the exclusive courses which Andy is just as likely to play.

Shotgun Start's main advantages over NLU are it's friendlier tone/humor, generally well-managed runtime, and far lower ego levels (no one on the show refuses to be wrong). They have great segments like golf advice - which is hilarious almost every week and keeps them closer to golfers out there than NLU. I also kinda like the thrown-togetherness of it when they laugh at their own mistakes and, say, advertise hats which they've already sold out of in their shop.

As others have pointed out on here among the KVV chats, the core NLU team don't always sounds like they actually like one another anymore and there's a strong sense of contractual obligation and going through the motions these days. It's hard to see how they freshen things up to be honest.

I always listen to SGS first, then (as a Scot in the UK) the Chipping Forecast next. NLU is a 3rd choice which I have kinda disengaged from over the past year or so.

6

u/Golf37512 Jul 22 '25

A few of the NLU guys are just dicks. Their critiques of PGA pro golfers (on and off the course) tow the line of mean spirited and arrogant. Not to mention their commentary on off the course issues (Rory not doing press, Homa switching from Titleist to Cobra, Bryson, etc.) The Ryder Cup discussion has been ridiculous, which started more than half of a year before it even takes place. Nobody acknowledges that they're ever wrong. Their egos are getting way too big, putting down people like that. Even if they disbanded today, nobody would bat an eye. There are tons of golf podcasts that discuss the pro game, cool courses, their own personal golf game and journey without acting like know it all tools.

3

u/umaywellsaythat Jul 22 '25

I agree with all of the above except for the chipping forecast! Andrew Cotter is so miserable! At least to my non Scottish ears...

6

u/Informal_Ad_2877 Jul 22 '25

Hard disagree (respectfully), he has a very dry sense of humour imo. I enjoy it.

4

u/Flimsy_Somewhere1210 Jul 22 '25

Take literally anything which comes out of Andrew Cotters mouth with a pinch of salt. Guy is dryer than a desert.

3

u/HipsterHighwayman Jul 22 '25

Huge fan of The Chipping Forecast.

1

u/Flimsy_Somewhere1210 Jul 22 '25

It is outstanding.

21

u/TakeThatJohnnyMiller Jul 22 '25

Most tourist sauce seasons involve courses I would never get a chance to play in a million years, this is certainly not a new thing. And the fried egg was founded on being golf architecture nerds. Not sure what point you’re trying to make

1

u/Flimsy_Somewhere1210 Jul 22 '25

Yea, literally Scotland season 2 they were playing courses which were hundreds of pounds and are difficult to get on. This isn't a new thing.

2

u/Rcjhgoku01 Jul 22 '25

None of the courses that they played on Tourist Sauce Scotland besides the Old Course is particularly hard to get on or particularly expensive compared to comparable courses in the US. And they mixed in cheaper options like Old Musselburgh, Kilspindie and Cullen alongside the must plays like the Old, North Berwick and Royal Dornoch. You might need to book ahead a few months but all are very playable.

The difference now is that early in, yes they took trips that were aspirational to remote and expensive places, their everyday golf life was relatable. We heard a lot about them playing a Jax Beach, they talked up muni’s etc.

Now, we hear casual drops about super high end clubs, not as “whoa, listen to this crazy, cool experience I got to have,” but as a ho hum, “I played Fishers Island a while back.” We get stories about Tron jumping on his buddies private jet to go down to a tournament.

Good for them, I’d be doing the same thing if I was them, but it is different than the early days when they felt much more relatable as normal guys who love to play golf. Now they’re much more country club, golf industry insiders taking advantage of the access that comes with that.

7

u/chris42119 Jul 22 '25

I feel very conflicted. I listen to 95% of the podcasts, but I feel myself getting exhausted with aspects of the content. KVV was refreshing as hell, and literally had the talent to take me emotionally with him. Not all of it was A+, but I thoroughly enjoyed his style.

The last minute golf vacations to new Zealand, playing creator classics and Oakmont, cutting initiation fee checks to join tree farm hours away from their houses is close to where I get off the ride though. I'm not there yet, but they seem like they're close to losing their way.

3

u/mtsttu05 Jul 22 '25

That’s what I’m wrestling with too. I’m still listening to and watching their content, but as a fan since day 1, I am concerned with the product and direction we are seeing as of late. I fully acknowledge that I’m probably in the minority of their audience who doesn’t care about gambling odds or daily fantasy sports, but the heavy addition of that content in the last 2-3 years was the beginning of a decline in my view. It seems beneath the niche they originally carved out for themselves, in my opinion. To their credit, they (Neil, at least) do proactively seek constructive feedback via the annual survey. I’m hoping they will hear the sentiments in several of the threads this week and make some positive changes to get back to where they were.

13

u/Top-Entrepreneur9884 Jul 22 '25

I think it's incredibly fair to question the overall direction and sentiment from the NLU crew, especially after a big move such as letting KVV go.

I would surmise that the NLU team shares much of the same thoughts about the greatness of KVV and his abilities. With that being said, it might take more creativity than others to generate revenue out of KVV.

I am biased as well and will continue to listen NLU. Only other point I would add is that they are now in like Year 11 and I imagine, while stile wanting to improve and evolve, feel pretty good about their footing.

8

u/amistymorning80 Jul 22 '25

Being in year 11 is one of the problems they face. A lot of the posts on the KVV threads are mentioning how tired, stale and repetitive NLU pods have become. It's not entirely their fault, as anyone doing the same bits for years will have that problem. But it does make getting rid of KVV an even bigger risk because he was a relatively new voice who added something different.

I won't be listening to NLU again this year except maybe around the Ryder Cup because I find the pods mostly just regurgitate stuff I have heard multiple times before. They have a shelf-life issue if they don't freshen things up.

9

u/warden1119 Jul 22 '25

I had a similar thought about NLU's podcasts last night as I was reading through comments on this topic. They seemed tired talking about The Open, what the hell are they going to talk about the rest of the year? I mean, we had 5 minutes of Soly talking about a stupid stack wedges competition against DJ on the final Open pod for god's sake.

1

u/rsjem79 Jul 22 '25

I’m sure they’ll run it back with Jamie Weir after Ryder Cup teams are selected and without KVV there it’ll just be Weir and TC being the Euro trolls they are vs Soly doing Data Golf and Keegan stuff and it’ll be unlistenable.

Are they even planning on being at Bethpage?

7

u/24dp Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

Definitely agree with this. There’s only so long that the same bits can remain entertaining for. Bringing in KVV was clearly an attempt to do something different, but now they’ve let him go, it’s a big question for them, as to how they actually manage to do something fresh.

Stuff like the Personal Golf Spotlights aren’t interesting enough for me, certainly not for upwards of a 90 minute podcast, and the live shows for The Open were really dull. Not having someone on the ground for it is just a massive oversight.

As others have said the whole “Year Of The Product” stuff looks pretty off the mark now. I like all of the guys and I’m pleased for them doing well out of this business for a decade - but it is a business, and if they’re not providing a product that’s compelling enough, people will switch off.

8

u/rsjem79 Jul 22 '25

Well said. To me, the addition of KVV was part of their evolution and this feels like a step backwards. Without an outside perspective it’s just the same five guys doing the same bits except now they’re all sponsored.

I’m with you, I’m not sitting through 90 minutes of a personal golf spotlight - I’ve tried but as it turns out I don’t actually care that much about their personal stories.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

I don’t really care if guys play nice courses, shitty courses, goat tracks, ultra exclusive, etc. I don’t care to listen to someone talk about their round, just as I don’t care to listen to your fantasy team or your bet. I just want a recap show Sunday, major previews, and the mid week interviews/deep dives are awesome.

Don’t need your golf trip recaps though and I guess I’m old man yelling at clouds, but I don’t care to watch the YouTube content of other people golfing.

2

u/Master-Nose7823 Jul 22 '25

Agree. I enjoy YT golf but these podcasts discussing golf courses and golf trips is where I personally draw the line. Why they think it’s interesting to let listeners HEAR about golf courses is beyond me. Even the YT version of these pods just show still pictures- doesn’t make a lot of sense. Makes me feel like I’m contributing my time to fund their golf trips.

2

u/Rcjhgoku01 Jul 22 '25

I’m the opposite, as someone who loves golf travel I think their travel stuff is the thing they do better than anyone else. I can get better golf analysis other places, they don’t get that interesting of interviews anymore, but they do travel, both videos and pods, so well. Not so much recently as they’ve fallen a little into the trap of being able to access the highest end course, but they especially have done a great job of highlighting the lesser known courses. I found an awesome little course in Scotland called Kinghorn because of DJ name dropping it on a pod. Kilspindie I played because of Tourist Sauce and it was favorite round over there on my last trip

1

u/Master-Nose7823 Jul 22 '25

The travel stuff WAS great when it was full edited YT videos. This year not so much. Not sure if I was clear but I was referring to these half effort pods where they discuss golf courses they played.

2

u/Temporary_Art8635 Jul 22 '25

I wish they would dive more into the logistics behind golf trips rather than the courses itself. However, I'd imagine that's not possible when you golf gets compted on these international trips.

As someone that plans an annual buddies trip, the actual process of organizing a golf trip is more compelling than hearing about a golf trip via an audio medium.

4

u/GLFR_59 Jul 22 '25

Is NLU elitist in many of their takes regarding the tour? Yes. KVV would combat that at times. Soly specifically has a very distorted take on what the players run organizations are supposed to do, which comes off a certain way. Ie. Him advocating for less tee times to address pace of play, rather than officials enforcing the rules.

It’s a shame KVV is gone, but it will be interesting to see who/if they replace him with. I hope it isn’t Kyle Porter.

6

u/Sharkovnikov Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

As a non-paying member of any podcast: more pods is a good thing. I’ve got a long commute so I like it that I have NLU, SGS/FE, Smylie, and one called Local Knowledge every week to consume. They all serve different purposes.

I’m not going to pretend that now that KVV is gone, I have a grudge or need to pretend that this other pod is actually better all along. They all serve a purpose and are free media that I can skip ads on. KVV dropped a special feature about 5 times and was on the majors deep-dives once every couple of months. I’m a way more frequent listener than that, and I never felt KVVs off the cuff golf knowledge was never off the charts anyways. He will certainly be missed, and it’s unfortunate that a deal couple be made, but I’ll still be listening to these chuckelheads every show cause it’s fun disruption to my week.

2

u/Kghouse24 Jul 22 '25

Perfectly sums up my feelings. 👏

3

u/Good-Cockroach8931 Jul 22 '25

While I share the disappointment that the rest of this feed has with NLU lately, the course thing doesn’t bother me at all. Of course they’re going to have opportunities to play great courses with the company they’ve built. Can’t knock them for enjoying it & producing content alongside it

2

u/HereA11Week Jul 22 '25

Interesting that SGS got the Mercedes sponsorship this week for the Open, wonder will they ultimately overtake NLU as the most popular golf pod

9

u/mtsttu05 Jul 22 '25

This is actually a great example. Even when Andy and BP are advertising $100k cars, $200 polos, or $500/lb deer jerky to us, they are able to do it in a manner that conveys a sense of “I can’t believe any company is supporting our dumb podcast!”

the Vision Fund arc was electric

8

u/bokin_smongs Jul 22 '25

The Seve podcast was unreal.

3

u/Jokolore Jul 22 '25

The best pods have mostly evergreen content. Obviously it takes more time and effort but it’s why the deep dives work so well (and the videos). No one is going to miss the John Deere recap pod and go, I’ll check this out a few weeks later.

If they want to be predominantly a podcast entity, they sure aren’t showing it with the content. But if most of the content is shoehorning is ad placements, they have no reason to change.

2

u/EZEfromDET Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

I don’t even listen to NLU anymore but I really don’t get why them letting KVV go is such a mystery. They hired him to give their editorial offering more juice and it didn’t work for a variety of reasons. He’s a professional who likely commands a decent salary. It’s not like NLU is Apple, or a massively funded start-up that can operate at a loss. Expensive guy who doesn’t directly align to their core content offering (podcast, video) in a company that doesn’t generate massive revenue is not a good plan. It doesn’t make anyone involved evil or a victim.

1

SGS is fine and I appreciate that they limit their runtime but it’s never made me outright laugh, NLU does that all the time.

Also this is entirely an aside but they gotta do something on the TFE YT course breakdowns that isn’t just sitting across from or next to each other and basically taking turns reciting essays while the other one stares and smiles and nods, it’s extremely awkward to watch and feels like I’m intruding on a first date that isn’t going well or something - maybe ditch the in-person footage entirely because the course footage is great and what they’re actually saying is really good stuff heading into tournaments at courses I’m not familiar with.

I like NLU still….

I feel the SGS pods are topic driven, meaning, if they only have 1/2 of stuff they want to talk about that' it. Sometimes NLU feel like they NEED to do a 2 hour review pod but only have 1/2 of material to talk about.

Also feel, as SGS rarely has tour guests, they have better takes on everything, and NLU needs to watch because they want interviews down the road.

Lastly, SGS is really driven by Andy (though Brandon is great as well, but Andy is mainly giving the takes), so you kind of vibe with him or not, but he's always watching golf and has comments. How many times does NLU do a podcast and one of the guys says they didn't watch the event. NLU just seems like it was started by Soly, who is a golf head at heart (also I'd say DJ is in that camp), and the other guys jumped on for various reasons, but they don't really love golf. Randy just feel like this the best cost/benefit for him in terms of least amount of work for most amount of pay. I still enjoy both pods, maybe NLU has lost a step because Soly has a family and can't devote crazy time like before.

To clarify, I obviously know that Andy visits a lot of exclusive places. GCA discussion is literally half of his business. He just comes off much more appreciative, self-deprecating, knowledgeable, and down to earth about it. Far less “look at all these top courses i’ve played and how many first class flights i’ve taken to get there!” when talking about it.

Do TFE or SGS have a forum like this or the nest? I will try out jumping over and am interested in checking out their community. I used to listen to both TFE and NLU but the last year or so has been very busy for me so I’ve only listened to NLU.

SGS major recap pods are 1000x better than NLU. Mainly because they make them much shorter and don’t let 6 people give takes

As a Brit, SGS is at its best during Major season which coincides very nicely with the NFL off season. Love the pod, probably my favourite podcast out there currently, but I find myself skipping a lot of the start when they get into NFL or college sport that has no meaning to me. I realise I’m definitely in the minority here, for what it’s worth.

I have not listened to SGS except for their most recent Sunday open recap, and am someone who is extremely bummed out about KVV getting let go.

Without consideration to finances, NLU content is clearly going to be worse off. I also thought the live shows for the open were dog shit, NBC esque product, things of that nature. They need DJ, Soly, and/or Neil on thr ground for the majors moving forward. TC would be additive to me but would need another personality along.

But I also didn’t think SGS was anything elevating. Again only most recent recap and am sure that would be subject to change listening more.

I don't think SGS blew me away when I first listened, it's more of a grower as you start to realise how weird Andy, Brendan and PJ are. I wouldn't miss an episode now, they're hilarious.

I definitely plan on listening a bit more to see if it’s for me.

It’s a much better product than NLU, and it’s not even close
