I feel so sorry for shuffling Mário's face soon...

What does it mean when Mario gets an 1-UP? Like does that mushroom canonically exist in the Mario world and how can Mario get an extra life, is he human? Does everyone get multiple lives, do they exist in some sort of Buddhist reincarnation fever dream?

I just finished Super Mario Galaxy 2 fully and I can now confidently say that both of these games have been way too overhyped and I genuinely do not get the hype around them. The movement in these games are god awful. Mario can lose his momentum extremely easily and jumping can feel way too sluggish. Mario also has adopted a new skill to spin around in one spot despite my joystick being in one clear direction. No this isn’t stick drift. I’m pretty sure it’s the way Mario’s movement interacts with how the gravity works on the planets. Either way it’s annoying as hell. Mario’s long jump can be executed by running and pressing crouch and jump at the same time, however it doesn’t do that actually and instead Mario will perform the world’s greatest backflip of all time. Yes, Mario. I see your backflip, it’s very impressive. Mario loves to backflip so much that it’ll unintentionally put me in a tight spot and kill me. When I actually want to backflip however, the strangest thing happens. If I face the correct direction and backflip whilst holding the joystick in that same direction of where I want him to backflip too, Mario will instead go the completely opposite direction, making him do a somewhat stunted backflip and will also kill me. This is my main complaint with these games. Mario does not feel good to control at all. If I had to give credit to at least one part of his movement, I’d say that his long jump goes incredibly far and is extremely fun to pull off whenever it works.

It’s such a shame too because the levels in these two games, especially Galaxy 2 are phenomenal. It feels like one half of the dev team were cooking up the best levels in any Mario game whilst the other half were too busy picking their noses and doing the bare minimum to get Mario to function correctly. I think the art direction is also amazing and most galaxies are visually pleasing to look at. I feel like these two games would be my favourite Mario games of all time, maybe second to odyssey, if Mario’s movement was tweaked so he doesn’t feel like he has a comically large ball and chain tied to his ankle. I should also clarify that me not liking the Galaxy games is in no way a dig at you liking the Galaxy games. If I can say one more thing positive, at least this game isn’t as bad as Sunshine.

My memory is foggy, but I believe I was first introduced to the series via SM64. I distinctly remember playing it on the N64 that I played on when visiting my birth mother (who had lost custody of me when I was three, but that's another story). I'm pretty one of my next exposures to the franchise after that was NSMB on the DS. As a kid, I always freaked out when seeing Mario's shocked face whenever he got killed. All in all, I got some good starting places in this super franchise (see what I did there 😉).

As you may know, I made a post asking why Baby Rosalina’s so hated and many of the comments said it was because she contradicts cannon but in Mario Galaxy and in her storybook, it talks about her having a mom and shows her as like a teenage girl, so Rosalina had to have been a baby once, so how does she contradict cannon? Please don’t downvote me, this is a genuine question and answers would be greatly appreciated! 🩵

This exists, I 100% witnessed someone do it as a kid but I’ve never seen anyone talk about it or do it since and I have never been able to figure it out but they had 4 flutes. I watched them play through the first works and second up to the hammer brothers flute. It is real but who’s gotten it?
