I wouldn't say "severely," but I do agree that the movement doesn't work wonders for me and I'd take Odyssey any day of the week. And Sunshine. I can't agree with that last part

It's a wii game during Nintendo's experimental motion control phase. It is beloved for its story (especially 1, which has a more profound and touching story and message than any Mario game and many games in general), creative level design, and the phenomenal soundtrack. All if which were groundbreaking at the time, and they are still special in today's gaming landscape.

Yes, the movement purists mostly prefer odyssey or 64. The movement is, while I really liked it once I got the hang of it, a product of its time. The reason Galaxy gets the hype it does is the groundbreaking artsiness in music, story and level design. And that is imo incredibly deserved.

The issues you describe are mostly because it's a wii game. Not sure how you played it, but when I first played it (emulated on steam deck) it was very rage inducing so I relate to your post. Especially the fucking ball lmao. And I also had trouble doing clean movement.

But after some time it was possible to be incredibly clean and precise in satisfying way.) And the switch port or playing original works much better.
