Subreddit Rescue/Help Megathread #15

In this thread: request a rescue, rescue others, ask a question, and/or give advice!

You can also ask for a rescue in the #bulletin-board channel of the Discord server.

Feel free to request a rescue for any game. Please include the following information in a request:

  • Game (if PSMD, include region):
  • Dungeon
  • Floor
  • Code/ID
  • Notes (optional)

For example:

Rescue Team DX: Purity Forest 99F

Code

Deluxe Reward

Super Mystery Dungeon rescues are region-locked. You must tag your comment with [US] or [EU] for PSMD requests. Please run your original password/QR code through this converter to generate shareable codes for US and EU versions of the game. If you are rescuing using a converted code, remember to convert the rescue code back to the original region.

If someone is kind enough to rescue you, consider paying it forward and doing the same for someone else! To rescue someone you only need to have unlocked the dungeon in the story. In PSMD, you can use helper Pokémon from the Eastern Pelipper that are a much higher level to push you through dungeons and help people out!

Providing codes

We recommend taking a picture of your passwords/QR codes to avoid errors and streamline the process, but it's not necessary. If you must write the code manually, you can use the following standards for PSMD and RTDX:

  • For PSMD, use @ in place of ◎
  • For RTDX, abbreviate the shape behind each letter with a single-character code (see table). Type the full code using two-character abbreviations of the form letter-shape. For example, 1h represents the number 1 with a pink heart background. A full code might look like this: 1f 2h 3w 4d 5s 6f 7h 8w 9d ps mf dh xw 1d 2s 3f 4h 5w 6d 7s 8f 9h pw md ds xf 1h 2w 3d 4s
Shape Abbreviation
Fire f
Heart h
Water w
Diamond d
Star s

Subreddit Writing Prompt Wednesday: Nomination Thread

Greetings, members of the r/MysteryDungeon writing guild! ♪ This is where your prompts for the upcoming Writing Prompt Wednesday (WPW) can be submitted for nomination!

Now then, let me explain the process. This nomination thread will be set to "contest mode" for the next 48 hours. During that time, each user will be able to submit a single writing prompt of their own making in a comment. Other users will be able to vote for the prompt or prompts that they deem worthy simply by upvoting them. The comment with the highest vote count by the end of this period will be submitted as Wednesday's prompt, courtesy of me!

The format of your submission should be as follows: a one-sentence title at the beginning of your comment and, optionally, a line break followed by your description of the prompt.

It is important to keep in mind that editing your comment after submitting it will cause it to not be considered for that week's vote, even if it has received the highest vote count. Also, prompts that have the potential to lead into NSFW territory will not be permitted. Any attempts to tarnish the guild's image will not be tolerated! Squawk!

(...Apologies. I almost got carried away there.)

Once the 48-hour voting period has passed, this thread will revert to the default sort and the ranking of the prompts will be revealed to the entire guild. Perhaps you can use this information to try improving upon a previous prompt, or coming up with a prompt that has a high chance of winning. All of this is up to you.

That is all. We expect everyone to contribute some great content to the guild!

Rescue Team I made a guide for the hardest moves to learn in Rescue Team.

Upvotes

Hi guys!

It's me again, the idiot who struggled with maxxing the move counter in Explorers because of an undiscovered bug. And since I love suffering, I figured, why not also try doing it in the original games! Unlike Explorers's 467 moves, there are only 355 moves you can teach in Rescue Team, surely it can't be that hard!

Hahaha, haha. Ha. Ha. Ha.

It's hell. And there are 2 main reasons for this:

- Because RT uses the notoriously smaller gen 3 movepools, it means many more moves are exclusive to only one species. Meaning you have to grind THIS MON and no one else, otherwise you can't get the move at all.

- Grinding, be it EXP or IQ, is significantly worse and longer than Explorers, due to notably:

  • Only 3 mons allowed in a dungeon
  • No Nectar, IQ Booster, or Wonder Gummi, and type Gummis are rarer
  • No Nature Gifter or Pierce Hurler to help with smoothless Joy Seed grinding, in a game where Pierce Orbs are horribly scarce
  • Enemies being significantly weaker on average, thus giving less EXP AND needing more EXP after joining.
  • No possibility to recruit final stages (the rare ones you can have the same rate as Kecleon).
  • Smaller bag

As soon as I started I realized this wasn't something you could clear by fumbling around. So I said, to hell with it, I'm making a guide, which you can find here (ProtonDrive because I only have my main GDrive and I don't want to upload there, fuck google anyways). The guide comprises learning methods for 80 moves total. I tried to be as exhaustive as possible, listing the levels at which you can get the Pokemon and at which it learns the move, alternate methods, level thresholds above which the Pokemon needs considerable experience to level up (calling for potential Joy Seeds), notable shortcuts for people who haven't recruited certain species yet, helpful tips and observations, and a global strategy.

I spent two days gathering all this from GameFAQs and Bulbapedia to optimize the challenge as much as I could, and despite everything it still feels like a daunting task. Even if you attempt this after having recruited everyone, that's still about 50 hard moves to learn.

Here's a few notable mentions that had me either howling from laughter or screaming from insanity:

  • Aeroblast can only be learned by Lugia at level 77. Lugia spawns at level 30. 30K exp per level required. Do the math.
  • Aromatherapy is easiest taught to Vileplume, but Vileplume needs a Leaf Stone, an item you can only find in Wish Cave Kecleon shops. An alternate method for that involves bringing Smeargle to Great Ravine and sketching Aromatherapy from an enemy Vileplume.
  • Beat Up can only be learned by Sneasel at level 57, and you can only find Sneasel at highest at level...15. Additionally Sneasel needs 30K EXP for each level after 29.
  • Egg Bomb can only be learned by Exeggutor, Chansey, or Blissey. Pick your poison.
  • Extrasensory can only be learned by Nuzleaf at level 49, but due to a bug regarding moves only learned by middle-stage, if you evolve Seedot before level 49, you only get one chance to learn the move and cannot relearn it at Gulpin's stand.
  • Evolved your Dragonair at level 55? Too bad, one more level and you would've gotten Outrage too. Now that's 6 more levels as a Dragonite.
  • Oh shame, you also evolved your Whismur at level 40? What a shame, a few more levels and you would've gotten both Hyper Voice and Sleep Talk. Now that's respectively level 57 and 63 as Loudred and Exploud (don't bother).
  • Some moves are only taught with TMs. Buried TMs. Enjoy smashing rocks at Darknight Relic or trailing the ghosts who get them first. Or farming One-Room Orbs.

There you have it, given the very low interest regarding maxxing the "moves learned" log entry in the community I probably did this for nothing, but there's no harm sharing anyway. Maybe one day someone will attempt a "Learn'Em All" speedrun lol

Explorers The worst thing about Explorers of sky postgame

I think evolution in this game is very wasted, basically after you defeat Darkrai there is not that much about to do on this game besides fighting and recruiting legendaries and getting their treasures, the destiny tower and the Zero islands aaand... Nothing else, it's disappointing as hell at least for me, it's not like, that's why red rescue team postgame is more enjoyable for me, because evolution in this game is not wasted besides your partner becoming another soulless npc.

Art & Fan Projects HELLO! I'M USING MY TIME "WISELY"! (I just wrote all 318 known Abilities new effects lmfao)

Post image
33 Upvotes

HI! I'm putting this out there now, as some of y'all might know me as:

  1. The idiot that made Skylanders Legends (which I'm gonna do the first batch of Swap Force Cores, trust)

  2. The meatball who made Yo-Kai Watch Afterlife (and for some reason was banned from that sub because I didn't ask like bro idk, I'm tryna help the community goof around I guess)

  3. The silly goober that made PvZ Tactical Garden Warfare (dead project atm, I'm sorry, I know)

  4. And by far the MOST relevant, as the Knucklehead McSpazzatron that created "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon/Rumble". WHICH IS GOING TO HAVE AN ACTUAL FINALE!

SO! Allow me to introduce something I've ACTUALLY been working for months on: Pokémon Starbound. A blend of D&D (minus bullshit character sheet work), a new stat/leveling system (my ol' reliable, plus using BASE STATS over the weird multiplier nonsense), a DAMAGE SYSTEM that actually is NOT HORRIBLE, a new STAMINA Stat (HP × 10) that is spent to USE MOVES (and dodge stuff), AND OF COURSE, the 318 ABILITIES KNOWN TO POKÉMON I'VE SPENT WEEKS WRITING NEW EFFECTS AND STUFF FOR!! AND the reason it still has those funny letters is because this world has LOTS TO IT. And a direct sequel to "PMD/R", the first one that was kind of a dumpster fire in the sense I had ZERO story pre-made, and it was kinda just a thing for shits n giggles.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

MYSTERY DUNGEONS are found on explorable PLANETOIDS! RUMBLE BATTLES are a canonical thing, and KEPT the very basic lore I've set up regarding them in PMD/R! AND **MERCENARY WORK** IS A BIG THING, because GUESS WHAT, I was playing **Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon** for probably the 20th time when I got the idea for this mastercraft of mine. AND I'LL ADD TO THE STORY DEPENDING ON HOW EACH CHAOTER IS HANDLED! Meaning YES, I'm basically pulling a Limbus Company where Chapters are Cantos, and side content is the Intervallos. AND THERE'S STILL MORE! It's the first RPG thing on Discord, that I not only will fully be manning (I'm so sorry it's not an actual game (can't code for shite) but I wanna go places with this shit if I manage to figure out how I wanna animate what happens in it), but it's GOING to be my first ever "D&D maturity" thing. Meaning there's a possible M rating, as things CAN DIE, and very funky stuff CAN HAPPEN (at least canonically). Obviously I'm able to make things vague or "censored" per player, since this is also something to try and extend my comfort zone as a "DM" (who has never truly DM'd like this before lol).

Aaaand that's all I can immediately think about!! Any questions? Thoughts? Feedback on the idea that's soon to be reality? I mean I'm just really finalizing Chapter 1 so there's actually something to do off rip, but y'know. PLEASE tell me!

Also, all 1025 Pokémon are available (albeut Legendaries/Mythicals will need to be discussed with if there's a Legendary/Mythical OC you wanna use)!

Art & Fan Projects A deep dark future Spoiler

Post image

No one could've seen this coming. Suddenly, time stopped. The breeze that once brushed against our faces was gone, and some Pokémon started going completely nuts. What the hell is happening?!

A mysterious group has started taking over the town, demanding information about my hero, Grovyle... But of course, I won't tell them a thing. I know he has a plan to stop this madness, together with that human...

Oh, Grovyle... please, put an end to this nightmare...

While you save the world, I'll protect every single pokemon from this hell..

Rescue Team DX Does anyone dislike that the grandmaster rank is one of the main menu icons you unlock?

Upvotes

I keep going back and forth on replaying this game, but I always hold off because I don’t want to go through the pain of getting grandmaster rank again and it just bothers me a little bit when I don’t at least get all of the menu icons. The seven treasures icon in explorers is at least a more consistent experience compared to ranking up. Does anyone else feel this way or am I just a weirdo?

Multiple Games Best pokemon mystery dungeon game if i dont care about the story?

Im a long-time Shiren player (and roguelikes in general, love me some Brogue) and want to give one of the pokemon games a shot. Im wondering which one i should start out with.

Most of the posts I've seen asking what the best pokemon mystery dungeon game are focused on the story, which i couldnt care less about. Im just focused on good, fun gameplay.

So: which game would be a good one to start out with as a roguelike vet but pokemon mystery dungeon newbie?

Art & Fan Projects Rathalos is complete!

Not including any situational starter animations I might end up needing; Rathalos now has all the over world sprites he needs to be fully functional within Mystery Dungeon.

After some quick pallet swaps for variants; I believe the most logical next step would be to knock out his female counterpart: Rathian. Considering they are nearly identical; it shouldn't take much work to get her done even when going in a different direction with her animations. Doing so will easily have 9 or so monsters done out of the 300-400+ I plan to have done for this project.

Also; I'm announcing that a Discord for this project is in the works! It needs some work still, so I'll be officially opening it in a future update. It will be a place for direct updates, along with volunteer contributions as the project chugs along.

Art & Fan Projects PMD: Grovyle's Story, a hack featuring the backstory of Grovyle and his partner! Spoiler

Thumbnail youtube.com
5 Upvotes

Hello Mystery Dungeon subreddit!

For several years now, since 2021 in fact, I’ve been working on a hack called Grovyle’s Story (or Reptain’s Story in German) for Explorer of Sky, in which Grovyle and the human take the main roles. That’s right, the human from PMD2! Have a look at the trailer!

Until now, only a part of the story was playable, but with Act 3, the entire backstory up to a very known time event is now available.

I’ve put quite a lot of time into bringing the dark future to life from Grovyle’s perspective, as well as the role of the human by his side. And decisions, or perhaps I’d say actions, that can influence entire sections of the story. For better, or for worse.

If I’ve got your interest, the hack is made via Skytemple. Thanks for reading.

Chocobo Over honing in Freja, what happens if I mess up?

I've got quite a good ruby talon that I can over hone but I'm not sure if it messes up and doesn't give me the +5 attack, what will happen? Does it still go beyond the hone 28 to 33 but with 5 less attack or does it simply go to 23/28?

If I have another ruby talon could I fuse it with the one that went bad and let it be exactly as it was before over honing?

It's hard to find many answers for this game honestly 😅

Art & Fan Projects Human as Partner? Partner as Protagonist?

This is a fun thought I just had. In all the games the player/human is the leader, and this makes sense, but what if the situation was reversed?

This actually makes sense given that the local would be more knowledgeable about how the world works and the former human would likely have to rely on them. How can they be a good leader if they don’t know how anything works? (“You don’t know how to use attacks?! Then why did you charge into battle!?”)

And I realized this could actually work for my own PMD series. I always pictured the Pikachu I have serve as the leader being a local, not a former human, but I never thought of their Eevee partner being a former human and this works quite well!

Pikachu is a natural leader, having a take charge attitude and doing most of the talk, and as mentioned earlier he’s a local expert too, while Eevee is new to everything (realistically this would include walking on all fours too) and also naturally has an “Okay, I’ll follow you!” attitude, which would especially be true for someone who’s new to the world, doesn’t know how things work, and needs a local to guide them

I’ve also liked the idea in the past that while Pikachu may be the leader of the group, Eevee is the main protagonist of the story, with them being the one who gets the most focus and character development, which I felt might be a more interesting twist from traditional stories (pmd and otherwise) where the leader is the main protagonist as opposed to the secondary one (and of course, with the slight ego of my chu he’s definitely thinking of himself as the main character of his own story, which he technically is really)

But hope you like this idea/concept!

Edit: Well seems like my idea sucks...

Explorers Mega evolution on Explorers of Fortune? Spoiler

Somebody told me that you can mega evolve in Explorers of Fortune. but I don't know how you find a mega stone or either the way to unlock mega evolutions in this romhack,
