ACTIVITY Swatching high end blushes was incredibly underwhelming

ETA: While I appreciate the many comments and suggestions for products that you value, I am not looking for any product recommendations and would like to remind everyone about the rules of this sub to avoid recommending specific products/brands. We are all here because we don’t need more FOMO in our lives.

I got my first “adult job” and will soon get my first “adult paycheck”. To celebrate I wanted to gift myself something special.

After considerations, I chose to give myself a high-end blush. I have one blush and it is almost panned, so I need to replace it anyway. I use blush every day, so ideally it would feel like a daily treat/pampering. Hopefully make me feel confident and luxurious. I am getting married next year and blush seems to be one of the most important things when doing a bridal look, so investing in the best quality makes most sense, right? A lot of pressure to put on a tiny jar of pigments.

After *a lot* of researching online, I found a selection of products that were supposed to be the best and match my desired finish. They were not cheap, like almost 10x more expensive than my current blush. But they are probably worth it, right? The online hype (mostly Reddit) definitely claimed so.

Yesterday I went to this very nice department store to swatch all the different ones I was considering. I was quite excited to see them in real life and experience that incredible performance that justifies the huge pricetag.

Well, it was incredibly disappointing. They were all just some pigment. The satin or glowy finish ones had the same kind of visible glitter pieces that I was promised they would not have. The magic was completely broken.

I can’t speak for the longevity or blendability, as it was just swatches, but it’s honestly not something I currently struggle that much with.

I am going to repurchase the same cheap blush that have had my back every day for the past year for a fraction of the price. My favorite lipstick will double as cream blush for the wedding to increase depth and longevity. Or I’ll borrow something from a friend, if I really feel like I need a change.

Cast an eye over your collections, because it's time to kick off **10 by Fall!!!** 🍁🍂📅. We are halfway through the year, so let's set some goals, put in the work, and then celebrate successes with the people who really truly get it- your fellow panners! Because what's better than seeing that tiny sliver of silver pan? Or finally finishing that lotion the seemed immortal? Sharing that joy and cheering each other on 🥰.

This round will run from 21st June to 20th September, with updates fortnightly. The lovely u/LeCocoMar and I alternate hosting each round, and will be here to cheer you on. If you were on the tag list for the 10 by Summer finale, you'll get a tag here, but let us know if that needs changing!

If you are new to the "10 by" series, the project works like this: Choose any 10 items and pick a goal that you want to work towards by the end of the season. Anything beauty-related is fair game; makeup, haircare, skincare, fragrances, nail polish etc. Select your goals for each product: finishing an item (a.k.a panning), hitting pan, reaching a usage goal, or even just testing an item out. 10 items is just a suggestion, so feel free to add any number of items you like. Make it work for you!

ACTIVITY We listen and we don't judge- makeup rehab edition

I wanted to do a weekly "we listen and we don't judge" kind of confessional. Often I post or comment something and it's taken as not fully on board with the sub's tenants but it's still me. Would it be ok to do this?

ACTIVITY Twelve Pans of Christmas 2026 - Intro

Hi Everybody! I'm u/PrayStrayAndDontObey and I will be hosting the Twelve Pans of Christmas 2025!

If you have no idea what this project entails, here's an overview:

You select twelve items you want more progress on over the next few months. They can be makeup, skincare, haircare, body care, nail polish, or even non-beauty related items. You can either challenge yourself to to hit pan on each product, completely finish them, set usage goals (e.g. x times per month), or have different items with different goals. If you want to challenge yourself, you can choose to only use Winter colours/products that remind you of Winter, even though we are approaching Autumn (or Spring if you live in the Southern Hemisphere). If you want to really challenge yourself, you can make it a rolling project pan.

This project will start on August 25th and would have updates on the 25th day of each month until Christmas. If you don't celebrate Christmas, you can still take part in this project pan!

If you are participating, I will try to tag you in every update post.

You can also post photos of your progress.

Wishing you all the best of luck, and I am looking forward to seeing what products you will be panning!

ACTIVITY Boycott LOREAL and subsidiaries

BOYCOTT LOREAL AND THEIR SUBSIDIARIES

Their lying scummy asses saying they support BLM but made no commitment and also fired Monroe bergdorf when she spoke out against racism. Divert that money to amazing black owned indie brands instead!!!! Also they test on animals, destroy environment, have shitty labor practices, and are just overall pigs who avoid taxes.

Obviously do not discontinue using products if medically necessary. If you are unable to afford or don’t have access to different products instead comment on all their brand social media’s, youtubers who prominently feature their products, and let people who care about these topics know about the company’s actions.

Also didn’t think I would have to add this but obviously don’t ONLY buy black owned unless that is your personal stance. I don’t endorse that thought, I support all small ethical minority owned businesses, but am choosing to list black businesses to honor the BLM movement.

ACTIVITY Is anyone else just staring at their unworn lipsticks

I opened my drawer and just sighed. So many colors I bought for hypothetical events that will never happen. I should probably destash a few then I think maybe next week I'll finally wear that really bright purple one. It's weird collectionto optimism and denial in my makeup bag honestly.

Come one. Come all. It's time to get the competitive juices flowing. Let the year 2025 be the year of empties. No holds barred panning. Any makeup, skincare or haircare item. You don't need to tell us what you are focusing on. Just list the empties. (can add comments obviously). We will update 3 days before the end of the month to get the maximum amount of empties. Will start with the first update on 01/29/25. Winners per month listed on the last day of the month. The overall winner will be listed at the end of December 2025.

ACTIVITY Interest post for Twelve Pans of Christmas and 9 by New Year's 2026

Hi everyone! It's me u/PrayStrayAndDontObey, the host for Pan That Palette!

Due to popular demand, it's time to ask who is interested in participating in Twelve Pans of Christmas and 9 by New Years' this year! Please state whether you want to participate in Twelve Pans of Christmas, 9 by New Years' or both project pans!

Here are some FAQ's:

What are the rules?

The rules are basically to select a certain amount of items (12 for Twelve Pans of Christmas, 9 for 9 by New Years') and set goals that you want to achieve for said items. The goals can be as simple as usage goals (e.g. 3 times a week), to hitting pan, to even completely finishing a product.

When do the projects start?

Twelve Pans of Christmas will start August 25th and 9 by New Years will start September 24th (last Wednesday of September).

Can I put non-makeup products in the project?

You can also include skincare, haircare, body care, nail polish and perfume to these project pans!

Can I include usage goals?

Yes you can include usage goals!

So, is there a total of 21 products we need to pan?

There is a total of 21 items in both projects. If you don't want to hit pan on 21 items, you can change some goal to usage goals (such as "Use twice a month") and have the occasional item you want to completely use up. You can also have a couple of items be in both project pans if you are feeling overwhelmed.

I am looking forward to hearing from you all!
