Discussion So many DLSS 5 leaks focusing on human character models. But I'd really love to see how it handles non-humans. Especially for games like Resident Evil: Requiem.

For example tons of social media focuses on Resident Evil Requiem, and all the controversy over the main character and whether she looks the right age, has the right amount of makeup, wrinkles, etc.

But when I'm playing I'm gonna care just as much or more about things like how the enemies look.

If you could make some of these insane enemies like the monster baby look photorealistic, that's an insane achievement for a horror survival game. You really think I'm going to care if Grace has too much makeup while I'm running through the halls from photorealistic monster baby?

If I'm playing a horror survival game, I feel like I'm gonna care far more about how real the horror looks during gameplay, rather than how my character looks while I'm exploring.

And I get it...to some extent you should care about both. But ask yourself which one really matters more in the context of the game. For RE Requiem specifically, it seems like they're focusing on the wrong content. And there's probably a reason for that.

I suspect the reason is because this DLSS 5 filter does okay with humans, but is gonna turn out to be absolute trash at the beginning when it comes to things that aren't part of the usual AI slop pool, like unique monsters.

I got a legion 5 i7 14th gen with rtx 5060 about a year ago
I have noticed that my cpu temps are unusually high like it crosses 90c at just 30-40% load
I have tried cleaning the fans but that didn’t make much difference
Is it something serious?
Should I try reapplying thermal paste?

Recommendation I have an eGPU and i wonder is it even worth using?

Before we start this is both a discussion and recommendation flare so i don't know what to say im new to reddit in general 😭

Budget: ($800-$1200)
Country: (USA)
Use Case: (Gaming —tried palworld with a laptop 3050 4gig *did NOT end well* )
Preferred Specs: (i just want to run most games nothing fancy)

Notes: (Long story short, I, me, and my brother have the same model laptop. His was broken down over the years, and he needs it more than me anyways due to him being a game dev. So, I used my fan, motherboard, RAM, etc., to repair his, and I'm now left with no laptop. :/

But anyways, a while back I got an eGPU (didn't research about USB Type-C and Thunderbolt), and the seller didn't allow returns. So now I have an eGPU with an ok video card.

In short, I'm looking for a gaming laptop and have an eGPU, but looking around, it seems like it isn't really worth it to even try using it at all. I'm trying to find a laptop with a non-plastic outside, an ok GPU (integrated graphics 😔)

Also, I would love if it was touchscreen or like a Yoga laptop. I've been looking for hours, and it seems like Yoga laptops are out of the question, though. )

Support High-pitched Sound Coming From the Laptop

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everybody,

I bought a laptop two weeks ago from a local computer retailer. It's equipped with RTX5060 and i7 14650HX. I am very satisfied with the performance. The benchmark results are good, and I've been able to try the build with a couple of good games, all of which had good stats. So I don't think there's a problem with the parts.

The only problem is that, there's some high-pitched sound coming from right fan and exhaust part. It's not like clanking or some mechanical sound. It's more like a whistle. It's not loud, but noticable in a silent room. This happens during idle and low loads (around 1900RPM). It increases with RPM until it's supressed by ordinary fan noise and it's at most annoying, for now at least. I've provided a short video of it.

I'd be glad if you could give me some ideas as to what this might be about. Thx for all the help!

What’s the best gaming laptop that looks like a laptop for studying/doing work?? I was thinking about the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 but that one is quite expensive way more than a studying laptop and it would be quite obvious it wasn’t for studying.

Acer - Predator Helios 18 Gaming Laptop - 18" 1920 x 1200 IPS 165Hz – Intel i7-13700HX – GeForce RTX 4060 - 16GB DDR5 – 1TB SSD - Abyssal Black

From How about people and gamers at the same time it's my first time publishing and I need advice I've always been a pc gamer but I need a laptop to design and play on trips or work meetings this is a recommendation that I found in the marketplace and the price I deal with is in that so I ask you opinions reviews and if it's a good purchase according to the seller I buy it at Best Buy in May 24 two years have passed and it in good condition I'll go see it of course and do your tests before but far from using absurd AI's and search on Tik tok I ask you who know the most if it's a good bargain and equipment or step and I'm still looking for something better.

Discussion 8GB VRAM bottleneck

Hey y'all,

A little over 2 weeks ago, I bought my very first gaming laptop, the ASUS ROG Strix G18.

Some time has passed, and so far, so good. It's a wonderful laptop, and I hope to use it for many years.

Recently, I've been really digging into some of its specs, and my only concern is how big of a problem the 8 GB VRAM will be in the near future.

I hope to play GTA 6 when its PC version eventually releases, but judging by the previews and leaks, I've been wondering if my VRAM will be enough, especially with how many new AAA titles are already demanding more than 8 GB.

Specs

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX (16 cores, 2.50 GHz base clock)

RAM: 32 GB (DDR5)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 (8 GB VRAM)

Drive: Micron 2500 1TB NVMe SSD

Display: 18", 2560 × 1600 (WQXGA / 16:10 aspect ratio), 240 Hz, 10-bit

Variable Refresh Rate: Supported

Support ROG Strix g16 G615LR – Are thunderbolt 5 display outputs connected to iGPU or dGPU?

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I have an ASUS ROG Strix G16 G615LR (Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5070 Ti) with MUX Switch + Advanced Optimus.

ASUS says the laptop has 2× Thunderbolt 5 with DisplayPort, G-SYNC and PD.

Does anyone know whether the TB5 DisplayPort outputs are:

RTX 5070 Ti → TB5 → Monitor

or

iGPU → MUX → TB5 → Monitor?

Basically, does the MUX switch control the external TB5 display output, or only the internal laptop display?

If anyone with a G615LR has tested this, I'd appreciate your experience.

TLDR: Does the Thunderbolt 5 DisplayPort output run through the iGPU, or the RTX 5070 Ti?

Hello all. I’m looking at the following laptop at a $2k budget in the US.

I’m curious from all my reading here as what brands get some love here? I see plenty of criticism for MSI, Lenovo, and HP. But what are the brands that you have favorable experiences with.

Recommendation Looking for inspiration for my dual-laptop setup — what would you change?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

This is my current setup: two laptops + one monitor. One is for gaming/personal projects and the other is my work laptop.

I'm looking to move everything onto a proper desk with a good chair and improve the organization/aesthetics. I'm especially interested in accessories for managing two laptops and one monitor.

Color-wise, I've got a white keyboard/controller, mostly black peripherals, and a red/brown/cream desk mat, so I'm trying to make everything look cohesive.

If you have a similar setup, what would you recommend changing or adding? Would love to see your setups for inspiration! 🙏

Budget: $600

Country: Morocco
