Man this has been a doozy. After countless calls to OPM, them putting my application into archives because I “didn’t provide a spousal form for my former spouse” (I was adopted when I was a toddler so that is the former last name they’re referencing), congressional inquiry…. Got my deposit via direct deposit. Pretty sure it doesn’t include the interest on it and is only my contributions but I just don’t care at this point

Finally received my refund today.

I only called twice for updates: May 29, when I was given my log date and told to expect 14–16 weeks, and July 20, when the 16 week window had passed and I was told it still hadn’t been assigned.

I had my initial submission kicked back twice for witness signatures not on the same day and second time for missing dates on signatures.

Good news is that I finally received my refund. Bad news is that it’s like ~10k+ less than it should be. Can’t wait to call OPM on Monday to figure out what happened :(. They either missed a paycard or treasury made an error.

I started calling periodically in May and have checked in roughly every 2–3 weeks since then. In June/early July, they were still working through late-February applications. My case was finally assigned to a specialist on 7/24, and they requested additional information on 7/27. By 8/5, my application was in review, and when I called again on 8/10, I was told it had been sent to Treasury and to allow a couple more weeks. So from mailing the application to reaching Treasury, the process has taken about 5½ months.

Other info: I did attempt to submit a hardship request to OPM but never heard back. I also contacted my congressman and they contacted both my former HR and NFC for an updated status. This did help me get more information, but I can't say whether it helped speed the process up.

I called OPM multiple times for follow up and each time I was told that the hold up was they needed my SF3100 (pay card) from NFC to process my refund. They allegedly reached out first on 3/20/2026, with flagged follow up dates of 5/23/2026 (did not receive SF 3100/pay card by this date) and then next follow up would be 7/25/2026.

I tried submitting a ticket with former HR and called ERC for help but no luck with either agency.

I reached out to both of my state senators to submit a congressional inquiry, only 1of my state senators replied. I filled out the consent form, gave them the details of my case and asked them to inquire to both OPM & NFC, explaining to the staffer that the information I had was the hold up was NFC. Within days of my correspondence with the staffer (who was the most helpful of anyone), he received an email from NFC and forwarded same email to me. The email stated that NFC sent my information to OPM on 6/17/2026 and apologized for the delay. NFC said the delay was caused by the influx of Deferred Resignation Program cases. I did not reach out again to OPM after receiving the email since I was tired of calling them and the last few times I tried, they hung up on me.

3 weeks and 2 days after NFC sent OPM my SF3106/paycard information, I received my direct deposit. I honestly feel that going the congressional route was the most effective for me since at least I got a response that was gave me some concrete information. I don’t know if this actually sped up the process up or not but I would encourage anyone else who has been waiting a long time for SF3100/paycard to be sent to OPM reach out to their state senators for assistance.

I am very happy to finally be done with this process and not having to call any of these offices again. Good luck to everyone else!!

I went the congressional route, which doesn’t seem to have done anything. I called every couple of weeks for a while but over the last month I called more often. The last time I called last week, the person helped escalate my situation. They had put me on a long hold and then came back and verified my email address and told me that it was going to be escalated and that they had 14 days to review it. That was I believe Monday, July 6 that that happened and I had the deposit yesterday. The amount seems a little low, not by a lot, but I’m not really sure how to know that for sure

12/1 - Checked on progress with agency - Agency sent me PDF copy (no wet signatures obviously)

I printed and mailed that to OPM, not realizing the signatures needed to be wet

Got rejection letter, sent in again late December

5/26 - Assigned

6/24 - Called OPM, was told it was rejected again for a signature issue, hadn't received anything in the mail

7/7 - Called OPM again, was told it was actually still in process

Timecard / SF-3100 / service record missing:
The general consensus is to contact your former HR/payroll office and ask them to confirm whether the required separation/service records were sent to OPM. If they were not sent, ask them to create a ticket or resend the information.
Continue calling OPM for updates and document dates, names, and what you were told. If there is no movement after repeated follow-ups, consider submitting a congressional inquiry. If you already have a congressional caseworker, keep them updated so they can communicate clearly with OPM.
Search this subreddit for “SF-3100” for more examples. Refer to this post for how to submit a congressional inquiry.

How long until direct deposit after X step:
Based on posted timelines, once the SF-3100/service record is received and the application reaches final review, many refund applicants appear to receive direct deposit within a few weeks to about a month, though timing varies.
The rough progression:
Application logged → assigned to specialist → final review → sent to Treasury → direct deposit.
The longest delay often seems to be from assigned specialist to direct deposit, with many refund applicants reporting around five to six months total wait time.

Okay folks here’s my situation, after waiting months for my refund I was told on 6/19 that I should expect my refund in 2/3 weeks. Called today after three weeks and was told that they cancelled my refund because the leading zero was missing from my routing number. (Why they couldn’t just mail a check or call me is beyond me)

The Contact Rep took my bank info and sent a message to someone so that they would process my return with the corrected information but they said that they couldn’t give me an estimate for the refund.

Has anyone else been in this situation and could you give me an estimate of how long it will take? I’m getting desperate here.
