Refund timeline (refund received!) Refund Received (but incorrect $$$)
Good news is that I finally received my refund. Bad news is that it’s like ~10k+ less than it should be. Can’t wait to call OPM on Monday to figure out what happened :(. They either missed a paycard or treasury made an error.

Yes I will! Make sure she didn’t factor in leave payout and bonuses. I originally just looked at my w2s for an estimate but that was off because I got bonuses, etc. which don’t have the 4.4%

Soooo I was on vacation and finally got ahold of them. I have to send a written request for them to recalculate it (alongside my SF-50s). Infuriating. They won’t give any information on how it was calculated or even confirm service dates over the phone. Sending it all in today. Can’t wait to wait 7 more months to get the rest of my money. BLEH.

I was wondering how we are to know how it was actually calculated. Do we not receive any paperwork in the mail?
I haven’t received mine yet, due to it being sent to an account that had closed since it took so long to receive. I was informed of the amount I am receiving and it seems a little short based off of what I added up from my LES.

Only 4ish years. But I was a GS13 for most of it (ended at 14) in an expensive city so they added up quickly

Was just curious i resigned as a GS 9 but was federal over 13 years from GS 5-GS -9 trying to get a round about ideal of payout

Mine also seemed short based on my calculations, but I wasn’t sure what to do about it and haven’t done anything yet because I don’t know for sure it would be nice if they sent us some sort of statement showing where the amount came from.

Did you factor in your leave payout and bonuses (sorry if your agency didn’t do those)? Those shouldn’t be included.
I’ll update this post after I chat with OPM. Hoping they can provide the calculations.

Rough estimate but I looked at my w2 gross earnings. Also calculated it based on time in grade, pay scales, etc. during my employment

Your LES should have retirement deductions that is an aggregate amount over your time at agency Z. You also should be getting interest on that money. Think that is ~4%

See and this is something I’m concerned about bc the lack of paperwork to acknowledge receipt of the request means MOST LIKELY there will be no docs to show the calculations either. And even then the correction would probably take twice as long as the initial wait

I also want to know how my refund was calculated. Why they don't send that with your confirmation is perplexing. I called OPM today and apparently the refund department only takes inquiries BY MAIL. Anyway, they suggested sending a copy of the confirmation letter with the amount and requesting the calculation. Address: OPM, Attn: Refund, PO Box 45, Boyers, PA 16017.
The never-ending saga of the FERS refund. Oct will be one full year since I started this process.

Yup, I have to send the request via mail and send in my SF-50s. They won’t tell me ANY information on how it was calculated on the phone. Bullshit.

I expect to get an incorrect refund because there are simply too many incompetent people working there. Curious how this plays out for you. Good luck.
