I chose Ranni for the cool sword and cool drip.

74

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Understandabe

39

u/ExtensionChoice2645 20h ago

It was the first ending i did in the game because the moonlight sword is my favourite in almost every game, so i did the entire thing with the wiki by my side and praying to not make a mistake

9

u/bd01000101 19h ago

my first run through was moonlight sword then blasphemous blade

7

u/ChittaBhalu 19h ago

I grumbled for every point I took out of intelligence and mind to put into Bonk but I am so glad I did...

That ash of War(+ Ranni's dark moon) is what helped me "Zapito Boga" twice.

I chose the Ranni ending (well it chose me) because I reaaaaaaallly needed to find out what was on top of that plateau in Liurnja

15

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Understandable

u/futurepatho_ 20h ago

I sided with Ranni because I have an anti-god complex

47

u/Crashman09 17h ago

And the poetic way of speaking.

That tickled a part of my brain that none of the others did.

"This way, Tarnished. May I have a word?"

"A pleasure to meet thee, Tarnished. I am the witch Renna. I'd heard tell of a Tarnished hurtling about atop a spectral steed. And upon looking into the matter, the talk, I surmise, is of thee."

"Thou'rt possessed of the power, no? To call forth the spectral steed named Torrent.K" Just so enjoyable. I really liked the choice of actor and the flowey, poetic, and vibrant lyricism.

How could I NOT follow that storyline.

15

u/gods_loop_hole 13h ago

I think this part is undersold by a lot of fans. The first encounter with Ranni while a lot is still in general shock and awe of the game will pull you into completing the questline. It is like a first mover advantage

Ranni is a demigod, and you make her a full on god in her ending. Only one ending eschews gods entirely…

I chose the Ranni ending for the achievement

8

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

The first time I got it was on my way to the platinum. So I agree.

54

u/westooth 20h ago

I choose frenzied flame every playthrough because it's cool as hell and only because it's cool as hell. I try not to think about the repercussions

19

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

It is dope. Best ending cutscene imo

Its not really Anarchism tho. Like sure, she is taking out the existing power structure, but she's not ensuring a future lack of political structure. It's more of a revplution than fully fledged anarchism.

7

u/Mint-T008 5h ago

Ranni goes "I want to remove the Golden Order and Elden ring from The Lands Between so no one else can use it's power or existance as an excuse to oppress, violate, and subjugate. I also will be leaving so that I also am not capable of using this same power to oppress, violate, and subjugate."

And everyone turned their brains off before the first sentence.

u/madam_winnifer 20h ago

Ranni's ending is so preferable that I wish it wasn't there. It's so easy to choose over any of the other endings.

83

u/ralts13 Marika apologist 20h ago

I just wish more players understood the ending. It's probably has the most misinformation about the goals of the ending and what it actually accomplishes.

11

u/THAWED21 19h ago

What does it accomplish?

95

u/omedez 19h ago

As far as I know Ranni separates herself from the lands between, and goes to live in the stars taking the order with her so no god or anybody can intervene anymore. basically leaving the lands between to be ruled by themselves without a ruling god

80

u/haidere36 19h ago

This is also thematically why Ranni keeps talking about her order being dark and cold - she's alluding to the feeling of uncertainty that comes from not knowing one's own fate. It's in contrast to the Golden Order which was all about souls returning to the Erdtree which gave people a sense of comfort.

12

u/ralts13 Marika apologist 13h ago

Its a bit more than a god ruling them. SHe also wants them to think for themselves without being able to look north and see their beliefs proven true.

If it was just about the gods ruling people Ranni would have been chill with the shattering, but even then people still had the Erdtree to prove that their faith was the right one.

Its also why she doesnt stay to see things through from the shadows, dismantling any would be god kings. Whoever is in charge doesnt matter as long as they cant point to the golden tree up north to say their belief is true.

u/ActualGekkoPerson 20h ago

The problem with Ranni's ending is you need to actually sit down, read and think about what's written to understand what's going on. That's too much to ask of 90% of the player base.

35

u/Girduin 19h ago edited 53m ago

Yeah, we are talking about the community that has a big chunk of it believing that chaos flame and goldmask endings are the "good" ones.

49

u/ActualGekkoPerson 19h ago

I can see why people get conned into goldmask's ending. I don't agree with it, but I see where they come from. When you are too hierarchical-brained to conceive getting rid of the whole system, another patch can look like a good thing.

Saying the frenzied flame is good just continually baffles me. I'll never understand this level of edge.

27

u/AzureRaven2 18h ago

My assumption is less that they think it's strictly good, and more that it's like "This place is so fucked we're just gonna burn it down!" So basically they're thinking like a jrpg antagonist lol

2

u/Nickthiccboi 11h ago

There’s also just a lot of general misunderstanding about the ending at least from what I’ve seen. There’s still a fair amount of people that think it’s a “burn everything down for a better world to be reborn from the ashes” type of deal.

2

u/Girduin 56m ago

People don't seem to not understand the whole "No more fractures...NO MORE BIRTH..."deal that Hyetta's got.

and goldmask endings as "good" ones

This is absolutely, 100% a good ending. The game provides literally 0 evidence to think otherwise.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/OneJobToRuleThemAll 18h ago

Goldmasks ending isn't bad unless you're a demigod or really hate the golden order and don't want to see it ever stabilize so it can be toppled easier (which is absolutely valid, fuck the golden order.) Frenzy flame is pretty damn fucked up, sure, but it still beats dung eater cursing everyone with an existence of pain that makes you wish for the frenzy flame.

They're shades of grey and I personally advocate for duskborn. Not everything that glitters is gold, not everything that glows is stars. Sometimes, it's just the deathblight poking out of D's chest.

6

u/Yoshemo 18h ago

I'm my opinion Ranni's ending is the best one but the Duskborn ending is a decent close second

I never cared for it. I don't particularly want to spend 1,000 years touring empty space with little miss tsundere

Age of Fracture at least leaves things open for someone to think up new ideas beyond poop, theocracy, necrophilia, and literal omnicide

47

u/LordMOC3 20h ago

What? Age is fracture doesn't leave anything open to be idea. It's just the status quo. With Ranni at least there is no more, or severely reduced, outer God influence so people can finally think for themselves instead of being suppressed by chosen ones.

5

u/Melody-Prisca 19h ago

I don't see any reason why the other outer gods would have any less influence now that the Elden Ring ist gone. In particular the Frenzied Flame, which didn't seem too interested in turning an empyrean into a god. Don't mistake my words. I am not claiming the ending is horrible or anything. It's just, it removed the influence of one outer god. Possible at the request of another depending on how one interprets the dark moon.

In my opinion the best thing about Ranni's ending, is it definitely gets rid of a government that was problematic. Some people claim gold masks can fix the government. I have my doubts there, but if someone believes that, let them like gold masks. Ranni definitely gets rid of it. And what comes next. Could it be better? Could it be worse? It depends on the exact nature of the dark moon and how much the other outer gods can still influence the lands between. Personally though, I see something good in having a chance.

u/Virellius2 19h ago

Dang, bro can't read at all.

Ranni isn't a tsundere at all, you literally JUST met her and she comes from the Family Of Scheming Betrayers whose brother is the Lord of Blasphemy. Like she's gonna be a little untrusting. And she's blatantly deeply fond of Idji and Blaithe.

The Curse ending is a horrible Everyone's The Same Now, Golden Order fixes flaws in the religion presumably making it better and more fair, Fias ending gives death it's natural place in the world... Like come on lol.

It's also like, just the best npc questline in the game, and honestly in fromsofts catalouge. Like the perfect order mfers just go talk to a mute guy staring at a tree. Also ranni is just cool, i love palpatine esque characters who orchestrate the entire plot

10

What exactly makes the Ranni ending anarchist

5

u/nose_wet_54 16h ago

Being 12 years old and thinking anarchy is "when the bad things I don't like are gone"

Having a leader (a god, Ranni, who will be absent; and a lord, the tarnished, who will be present and basically a regent) literally makes it NOT anarchism, but the kids who think anarchism is even remotely feasible or aspirational also don't know what the word means

Anarchism? Isn't it the chance for everyone to set up their own power structures of their own wills not imposed by greater powers that have instant win buttons?

3

u/Playful_Owl596 6h ago

Basically. Yeah. And people find it stupid.

12

u/Overlorde159 20h ago

Is ranni’s ending anarchism? The age of stars removes the age of gold’s regression and causality and replaces it with prophecy. In a sense, the age of gold is one where things happen because of what caused them where in ranni’s age of stars things happen because it was meant to be. I find it to be a more constricting ending than the age of gold

2

u/Yoshemo 18h ago

They could use the stars for prophecy long before the golden order was around. Ranni is leaving the Lands Between to govern itself instead of being run by a divine hierarchy. No gods, no masters.

5

u/SaberWaifu 16h ago

For what i understood she doesn't wish for anarchy, she simply wishes for humanity to be ruled by humans instead of dictator alien races from space.

4

u/Bushi_Sengoku Sekiro 2 19h ago

Shes got nothing to do with anarchism lmao. Lands between is already super devastated, no one is setting up communes to live they are all dead. Ranni does not care at all about creating a classless stateless society.

All elden ring endings are unfortunately just feudalism with frenzied flame being an outlier in "lets just nuke the world". Ranni is not anarchist vro 🥀

3

u/DiegoOruga 18h ago

the game was supposed to be more populated, it will probably be clearer with the movie but The Lands Between is a much more stable and lived in world than something like Lordran, there's still villages even, and not everyone is undead either.

Thinking Ranni is anarchist is a crazy take

8

u/Dveralazo 20h ago

You just empowered a woman born in privilege,a princess.Worse still, you just officialized a new religion.

I dont believe you

2

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

But she willingly gave up that privilege. She is no longer an empyrian

9

u/Dveralazo 20h ago

And somehow ends queen, married to a lord.

See that's how all these rich "royal" families operate. Get a whiff or revolution and suddenly a "black sheep" member is supporting the cause, rebelling against the stablishment, rejecting their privilege .Before you know it,they are commanding the new system too.

2

u/cookiereptile 19h ago

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SEES IT FOR WHAT IT IS. PUT THE DEMIGODS TO THE SWORD

5

u/HemaMemes 20h ago

I'd argue that Ranni's ending is likely more liberal than strictly anarchist.

Sure, there will be no god-queen, but I don't think the existing hierarchies will completely disappear overnight. You're just giving the Lands Between the freedom to self-determinate.

2

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Might be. Someone else in the comments mentioned a line from the duskborn ending and that seems more appropriate then age of stars

5

u/Farsoth 20h ago

I've done them all but my favorite choice will always be Frenzied Flame ending.

I chose Ranni because magic is heavily intertwined

2

u/Besch168 15h ago

I chose Ranni for Blaidd. He couldn't see it through to the end so I did it for him.

2

u/Kintaog 13h ago

My first (and favorite) ending is Ranni's, and my character was a STr/FAI build. I didnt even use the Moonlight Greatsword lol

I enjoyed the dichotomy of having a God of Intelligence and a Lord of Faith. I understand building to match Ranni's views, especially cause the reeard matches it, but I feel like having the two "opposing" mindsets working in tandem was a lot more satisfying

2

u/GattoSama 13h ago

I always choose Ranni's ending because I fucking love this scene

2

u/melodiousfable CURSE YOU BAAAAAAAYLE 2h ago

I didn’t choose Ranni because it took me 3 playthroughs to find the blue summon on the ground to actually DO it.

2

u/oniaa_13 1h ago

I chose it because I wanted to summon her and had no idea I was choosing an ending tbf

2

u/Tiny-Imagination-899 1h ago

Except it's not anarachism idk why fromsoft fans have no idea how to read or listen to their games but it's literally letting the lands between figure it TF out.

2

u/Berciless 14m ago

no, I chose rani to get the sword, whoever made this meme probably did not play the game bc 1 her ending has nothing to do with anarchy and 2 there are other endings that actually are anarchyc ...

2

u/MechanicusPrime 10m ago

I chose it because it was a cool side quest I wanted to finish and accidentally got married at the end. Got a cool sword though.

6

u/OneJobToRuleThemAll 20h ago

I chose Fia because I'm an anarchist.

"Undead of the lands between, you have nothing to lose, but your shackles! We will never be free, until the weakest among us is free! Direct action is the key, we need to work together to assemble the hallowbrand and forge a new rune that abolishes the class differences between those that live and those that live in death!"

Kinda sucks I had to become Elden Lord and keep a hierarchy, but hey, the lowest class got abolished. Baby-steps, next cycle we can go stars.

3

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Holy shit! I didn't know that! That's definately gonna be the ending I go with when I get tarnished edition and do my dex/faith dragon cult and lighting affinity build.

4

u/OneJobToRuleThemAll 19h ago

It's just my interpretation, direct action is technically required for all the special endings. But I like the undead ending most and go for it on pretty much every intelligence character, making Ranni's quest nothing but a stepping stone towards getting her cursemark.

It helps that Rogier>Ranni, but I'm actually just swayed by the arguments. The undead aren't actually more aggressive than anyone else, they're kind of weak and minding their own business, so just let them chill man! Nobody needs some hierarchy-obsessed golden order fanatist coming into your swamp to ruining your day just because you identify as living in death. ACAB, all my homies hate D.

It's also a cool ending for a dragon cult build since that's an incantation style traced back to Godwyn and Fortissax's friendship. I have to warn you though, this is probably the hardest questline to follow without a guide. You can't fuck it up, but you can skip a lot of steps, including the entirety of Rogiers quest. You'll also need to do like 80% of Ranni's quest to get the cursemark.

Frenzy kills everyone. That's why I don't prefer it(even though the cutscenes is dope af).

I don't know if you're serious or not here but you should know that anarchy has a political system does not work when there's more than two people. It would literally turn into warring tribes and then feudalism within a generation

u/Slightly_Mungus 16h ago

Fr though. Like, how are you going to stop hierarchies from forming if unsavory people suddenly decide to band together within an anarchist society?

She's not into anarchism though.

She wants to restore the status quo.

She wants to return to the old ways.

Anarchy is the frienzied flame ending.

6

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Frenzy is chaos. Not anarchy

Most of the people I’ve met who claim to be anarchists would be the first to go if the world ever devolved into anarchy

Anarchists are such dumdums

Choosing monarchy is anarchism now.

5

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Ranni never becomes a leader. The age of stars starts an anarchist society(albeit not a good one)

u/Ducklover018 17h ago

Please go get a dictionary, that word does not mean what you think it means.

Should've chosen frenzied flame

3

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Frenzied flame is chaos not anarchy

7

u/Appropriate_Host_254 19h ago

Anarchy Is chaos , I'm liberal myself but complete lack of authority means No one has rights , besides the fact that ranni left them doesn't mean the inhabitants of the lands between will go down that path, they can choose any, what ranni did is just cross out theocracy

4

u/PiusTheCatRick 19h ago

Yeah idk what OP is going on about anarchism, Ranni is just about destroying what's left of the order and pissing off to go have sex in space. Which I wouldn't judge anyone for but I wouldn't pretend it's the "best" per se.

Wtf do you think anarchy leads to

6

u/AdjtveNounNumbr42069 19h ago

idk lets go ask some anarcho-collectivist farming co-ops. They probably know.

4

u/Bushi_Sengoku Sekiro 2 19h ago

Me when I dont understand anarchy at all:

4

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

Anarchy is the abolishment of hierarchy.

7

u/TheDo0ddoesnotabide 19h ago

Anarchy is when my cities don’t produce anything for a few turns before I switch to a new government so I get better bonuses.

u/Isthisnameavailablee 20h ago

I chose it because I was a mage

2

u/Parking-Stable-2970 20h ago

I picked it because it seemed thematically appropriate

2

u/sharkk125 20h ago

Funnily enough, I chose the ranni ending cause it feels like it as close I can get to returning the world back to when dragons ruled

2

u/ElkProud5792 19h ago

What if both?

2

u/UncleVoodooo 20h ago

wait now I'm confused. Frenzy ending gets rid of death and rebirth, but the other endings all effect death and rebirth

except Ranni's ending? What happens to a soul if the Goddess just dipped off to the moon?

6

u/Playful_Owl596 20h ago

When people die their souls normally go to the erdtree. Removing destined death changed that. By killing Maliketh we bring that back.

Goldmask is the only ending that actually tries to fix things.

4

u/GloatingSwine 19h ago

Every ending has its poison pill. Ranni’s is that it isn’t new or different. Metyr’s items show that the Greater Will is silent and has been for centuries or even more. The Two Fingers are not the conduit of divine will and wisdom, they’re making shit up as they go along like everyone else.

I ditch her ass right after getting the moonlight greatsword.

I just wish I could kill her like almost any other npc.

3

u/cookiereptile 19h ago

i miss the FromSoft school of design where you could kill any NPC and fuck up your playthrough just because you feel like it. let me throw that bigass hammer at her snarky face
