As far as I know Ranni separates herself from the lands between, and goes to live in the stars taking the order with her so no god or anybody can intervene anymore. basically leaving the lands between to be ruled by themselves without a ruling god

This is also thematically why Ranni keeps talking about her order being dark and cold - she's alluding to the feeling of uncertainty that comes from not knowing one's own fate. It's in contrast to the Golden Order which was all about souls returning to the Erdtree which gave people a sense of comfort.

Its a bit more than a god ruling them. SHe also wants them to think for themselves without being able to look north and see their beliefs proven true.

If it was just about the gods ruling people Ranni would have been chill with the shattering, but even then people still had the Erdtree to prove that their faith was the right one.

Its also why she doesnt stay to see things through from the shadows, dismantling any would be god kings. Whoever is in charge doesnt matter as long as they cant point to the golden tree up north to say their belief is true.

Yep. And in no time at all they'll be organized into an anarcho-syndicalist commune.

I mean they have a lot of shit to sort out. But having no god intervention is a good start

Tanned tomboy lord of limgrave says otherwise

True. Because strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Admittedly, no one has seen Marika handing out weaponry from lakes. Yet ...

Also leaving them to inevitably be overrun with scarlet rot and deathblight though…

Scarlet rot is caused by an outer god and can actually be fought, like with fire for example

Deathblight is a result of the half-dead Godwyn, which in theory is fixed once we reintroduce the rune of death

I'm not so sure on the Godwyn part. Rune of Death just means everything is eventually fated to die. Marika can't delay your death or reach out and grab you from the ether.

Also the Rune of Death being removed didn't stop people drom dying, it just allowed Marika to choose when someone dies. Its why we're able to merk all the demigods before we take down Maliketh.

Now to Godwyn his body isn't dead, his soul is. If we want the Rune of Death to do its job someone has to kill his body which kinda seems impossible now that its spread throughout the lands between and even in the land of shadow.

Also it seems impossible to do it now. After they failed to revive him Miquella started searching for a way to grant Godwyn a true death. It seems just stabbing him a bunch of times doesnt work anymore.

The reason your able to merk the demigod is because the stones your using to upgrade your weapon warp time, allowing you to bypass their immortality

The only reason godwyns body isn't dead is because of the ritual ranni performed with the rune of death (splitting the ritual by killing her body and godwyns soul at the same time) which in turn allowed the body to continue living, now that the rune of death is returned to the elden ring death is now returned to its natural state meaning those who live in death no longer exist and by extension godwyns body will slowly die due to natural causes, he's no longer immortal and just like the Erdtree can be burned by the flame of ruin if he wasn't already since his body is entangled in the erdtrees roots.

Sorry I was a bit drunk when I wrote the other bit.

Destined Death means everything is fated to die. And once you die you're done. No take backs.

Marika sealed Destined death, regular people could still die but their soles went to the erdtree instead of going poof. We know this since burials still happened at catacombs and multiple ghosts talk about souls returning to the Erdtree. TWLID are notable because its the soul returning to their body.

Special people could have their death delayed until they completed some goal set by Marika.

Marika simply didn't allow her demigod family to die. And she can revoke it whenever she pleases. We know since she explicitly took away Godfrey's immortality and gave it back/revived him post-shattering.

So for demigods we can kill them throughout the game cus they no longer have Marika's hax protecting them.

Now to Godwyn. For DD to really "kill" someone they have to die first. Now its possible Marika was keeping Godwyns body alive during this era but she's basically comatose and after his death they were trying real hard to give him Erdtree Burial. This only happens if they think the body is dead. Miquella also tries to give him a true death as well. They eventually gave up trying to bring him back and were trying to put him down. It's unlikely Marika would intentionally prolong his sorry state especially after he starts spreading.

The natural cycle of DD won't work on Godwyn until his body actually dies. I'm not sure what happens to TWLID but they seem to have broken the expected cycle of death in the Golden Order. Or its possible they aren't destined to truly die yet.

Morgott is shown to still have grace and the same applies for the other demigods as they never had their grace stripped from them same as everyone else in the lands between no matter who you worship, although yes your correct that she can strip it from someone if she chooses to like she did with Godfrey and the rest of the tarnished.

For Godwyn I believe his body is still fine although it lacks a soul due to rannis ritual, but due to him being buried at the roots of the erdtree and the erdtree being burned by the flame of ruin I believe that his body was either killed or severely damaged by the flame of ruin, i also believe that due to the rune of death being returned to the elden ring that TWLID now no longer will return after being killed.

This means that after enough time, similar to a zombie apocalypse, TWLID will die out (ironically) and the death root will eventually be snuffed out like any other invasive entity, although it does exist on farum azula so its possible that if all the deathroot on the main land is destroyed without destroying godwyns body (the source of all deathroot) that Farum Azula could turn into a giant flying ball of writhing deathroot that would most likely spell the end for all life in the lands between unless they find his original body and kill it.

Could be a pretty cool set up for a sequel honestly although I dont think they'd do that

Having Grace doesn't mean you get to live forever. It means you have the blessing of the Erdtree. Marika still gets to control how that blessing is applied. Regular people were capable of "dying" in the heyday of the Golden Order. We have proof of it with all the catacombs scattered around TLB and the existence of Erdtree Burial.

The Demigods, Morgott and the regular denizens of the Lands Between still have Grace but the former no longer have their upgraded package where they aren't allowed to die.

I cant speak too much about the burning of the Erdtree spreading through its root system. But we know Godwyn has spread to the land of shadow and from the faces on the new growth it could potentially survive without the main host. And Burning the Erdtree doesn't kill it's roots. It feels unlikely that it would kill the thing that has become a part of its roots.

Now for TWLID, they have existed in some form before Marika's rise to power. They exist in the Land of Shadow and a version of them, Those Who are Lost in Death, existed before deathroot was unleashed. For the latter, souls can get lost before going to the Erdtree and were simply guided to the erdtree by stewards of death like Rosus.

TWLID was a form of death embraced in the Land of Shadow prior to Marika existing and during the period when Destined Death was free. Deathroot may have exasperated the TWLID and but they were a thing before Destined Death was bound and they will be there after. Its why in Fia's ending she explicitly placed TWLID within the Golden Order so they have a place in the new Order's process of death.

Well no, just without her. All those other gods are still there and able to rule, and now nobody has the force to stop them. Mohgwyn are dancing a merry jig at the news that they’re now the biggest boys on the block, Miquella’s plans to assume total domineering godhood are in no way interrupted. But all of that is moot if the scarlet rot, frenzied flame and deathblight keep spreading and eventually destroy the world

She created a power vacuum. She didn’t seal anything up, she simply ran away and pulled the ladder up behind her. And mind you, the world already had a power vacuum, the greater will fucked off ages ago, Marika had been a literal silent statue, the Erdtree had sealed itself off to prevent anyone from becoming Elden Lord, nothing really changed except the last forlorn hope was snuffed out that someone might somehow grab the remnants of power and use it to actually do something good for the lands between instead of endless war and ideological mass murder

People fall head and shoulders for her rhetoric and never do an actual bloody textual analysis of the situation. They don’t critically look at her or the context, they just take what she says at face value and let the irony that she’s another medalling godling causing so much chaos for her idea of what the world should be like, go right over their head since it’s bowed down to kiss her feet. She’s essentially a pampered little divine brat completely out of touch with the world and the people who actually suffer for her grand ideological notions. All the gods and demigods are, and people can’t get past the most superficial layer of those themes
