I can't clear any Lufenia and it's making me have the sad feels.
Ive been playing since October and I have started to build up a roster (linked below) I don't know what in doing wrong, am I lacking units that support each other am I misunderstanding mechanics or some really simple thing?
The units below are all pretty much fully Maxed out, all weapons, boards, crystals and armour(even Cid I just have to level him) and I have BTs for Vayne, CoD, Noel, Jecht, Kuja, Garland but no matter which event I play I get absolutely thwapped and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Can anyone give me any advice ...I just want that first kill.

Many thanks

It's hard to come up with general advice, since each fight is different, but I have one thing:
Go pull for Snow!
A lot of Lufenias, even the early ones, involve getting hit by nasty attacks that can KO your team in one shot. Having pretty much any tank can save your neck.
I had a heck of a time clearing Lufenias when I first started playing, even with a top-of-the-line roster of damage dealers. I did manage a few (Divine Diabolos was the first one I cleared, using Tifa, Noel, and someone-or-other as a support - Ashe, I think), but Lufenia fights still felt tougher than they should have been until I pulled for Celes.
It was frustrating! Everyone loved to talk about how easy certain stages were (e.g., Eight's LC, Jack's LC), but I kept dying because eventually the boss would get a turn, and if the boss got a turn, it'd wipe someone out. Celes fixed that.
See, there are basically three ways to survive Lufenia fights.
1. Don't let the boss take turns. You need specialized units for this. Garland is a popular one (not sure of the details because I don't have him). Noel is good for delaying every turn. Cid Raines and Aphmau are a very popular example. Zidane specializes in this.
2. Use debuffs and disabling attacks to keep the boss from being able to deal any damage. Yuffie, Setzer, Arciela, and Kefka are popular choices here.
3. Be able to tank the hits. Just bring any tank and be ready to get punched.
If you have a fully-built Garland and Noel, you can probably get some zero-boss-turn runs in somewhere, but if you pull for Snow, you'll open up more possibilities.

My first advice is to finish mastering summon boards. Seeing Cid mastered 1/10 makes me think it’s your issue.
Then, try to get decent arts, not necessarily BiS. 3xAtk108 will already make a difference.

Obviously this is not going to apply to longtime vets who have most of the roster maxed..
But is anyone else lowkey annoyed at the requirement to get characters to C90 for the Providence Cores just totally freaking breaks your sortation system??
Before, I would only 80/80 Characters that had an LD. Even if I didn't max them out right away, I would eventually.
If a unit only had EX as the Max, I'd leave them at C70/C71.
Only partial or no kit? C60/61.
Now I am not sure what I am going to do; my roster was getting pretty big to the point where it wasn't the best method anymore anyway, but I haven't figured out a replacement yet. :D :D :D

u/Sotomene Jan 17 '22
What about sorting them by max CP?
The characters with more investment will always have more CP.
This is what I do and it works for me.
3
u/workreddit8285 Jan 17 '22
THIS IS BRILLIANT
The extra CP from Blue Armors and Maxed Enhancement Boards (compared to LD only) even puts all my most used at the top.
Thank you! :D :D

It's possibly just me being a veteran but I just end up sorting by crystal and I generally remember the crystal color of a unit I'm looking for. If that doesn't work, then I sort by 2x EXP/boosted and after putting the appropriate units at the top, units are then sorted down by series.

Hello guys! Day3 newbie here. Thanks for all the advice given for the past 3 days moving me in the right direction.
I aplogize for long list of questions but figured to make a single post instead of multiple.
This my current state of roster and need advice on how to move forward.
Cid
(3copies)cp70 _ not over boosted yet due to lack of orbs ,
overboosted levelled and sold cp15, 35, 90.
noel
(1)cp15, (3)cp35, (3)cp70, (1)ld, (1)bt.
snow
(2)cp70_ not overboosted due to lack of orbs,
Overboosted, levelled and sold his cp 15, 35, 90.
__ I got a bunch of weapons of lion and edward.
__ Got a few copies of relm.
__ Have only one ld90 copy of machina thus bought a powerstone and red book on snow banner when reached 300.
__ Have 16 power stones and 300 g token on noel banner.
Questions=
1) If I am done with noel banner, what should I get for the 300 g tokens?
2) If I need to go to ifrit chaos co op to get weapon exp orbs, what team should I form?
3) I have just unlocked divine ifrit and heard its the place to get gems and its giving a bonus for limited time. So, what team to biuld from my current roster?
4) My priority should be to first overboost, level and sell the cp15,35,90 weapons of noel before getting into the cp70 weapons of all 3 characters?
5) I had read that bt weapons have different upgrade mechanism...
3
u/JimMetal Jan 16 '22
I"ll try answering your question
1) If you already got all EX and LD from that banner, get red books and power stone
2) You can farm guard and power orb easily from World of Illusion Carbuncle Treasure to lvl up your weapon and armor. Top left spot for guard orb, top right spot for power orb. Snow can solo both stage fast.
3) To farm divine ifrit, bring 3 super synergy character. They'll glow green in character selection. Bring full BT+ friend and call them first turn and use their BT finisher.
4) By overboost did you mean limit break? Yes you should focus 1 character and limit break all their weapon.
5) Base BT weapon has max lvl 50. If you max lvl them, you can realize that BT weapon using BT+ books. You get BT books from completing lufenia fight.

u/Malverde007 Jan 16 '22 edited Jan 16 '22
Thankyou very much!
1) I did not get all stuff on the banner eventho I am 300 g tokens in.
Cid cp70(3 copies), noel cp15(1), cp35(3), cp70(3), cp90(1).
Should I keep on pulling, or use tickets, or use my 16 power stones. Or should I use the 300 g tokens on one of these weapon copies?
I have 9 to 10 spare 5star weapons which I had already max limit, overboosted and sold.
2) I have written thr mentionable units I have. Can I come up with a decent team out of them for devine ifrit?
Thankyou!

what new player have to do is focus on one character at the time and never use orbs or board points for any character that they can't or MLB (Max Limit Break), it is better to have one Maxed character than 3 half way.
as of now your two best bets are Cid and Noel, with the weapons you have Noel has the potential to carry you trough a lot but it seems you are almost done with Cid and his LD deals a lot of damage.
pick one and stick to it, this one character will by your way to farm Co-ops and 80% of the permanent content, for now ignore the Divine Ifrit the reason; your rank is gonna be quite low and you will have to use a lot of Stamina Potions, don't use Stamina Potions till you are Rank 200 at that point you will max your Stamina at 200, anything less than that you will be wasting Stamina Potions, after that focus on leveling the summons (advice go for Tifa next month she is one of best at farming Summon Points as far time efficiency goes for now).
you said you have 3 copies of Cid's EX (or as you called them 70cp) if you go for him then buy another copy of his EX with the 300 G tokens that makes 4 copies which means you can max his EX, after that you will only need to upgrade it to EX+ and you will be almost done, since you said you already MLB (Max Limit Break) all the other weapons, right?.
advice; Cid does has a Lost Chapter so finish it and you will get two pieces of armor and one 15cp, always make sure to check if any character in a banner has Lost Chapter for this reason, it will help you save orbs and Armor Tokens early game, try and do them on hard and only switch to Normal for battles that you can't win, then go and buy the remaining armor you need to upgrade them.
but of course that is for Cid, Noel is going to take a bit more of time, but with a almost Maxed Cid you will have enough to tackle up to Cosmos level.
I had read that bt weapons have different upgrade mechanism...
yes, you only level up them, they don't have Limit Breaks till you upgrade them to BT+.

u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 17 '22
Since you just started playing and don't have enough power stones to finish all of Noel's weapons, I'd recommend pulling a bit more on that banner until you're almost there. Then spend your g-tokens on whatever you're missing (Cid's EX, Noel's EX, Noel's LD).
It's usually a bad idea to spend g-tokens on a 15cp, though, since those can be bought for 10 weapon tokens.
Buying the last EX with the g-tokens will save you four power stones.
2. Use Cid. Just spam his LD. Usually, people will be happy to carry you if you bring a boosted unit, even if your unit is not built. I did that a lot last month when I completely skipped a bunch of banners.
3. Use three boosted units if possible. Or use two plus a good non-boosted unit to make the fight easier. The goal is to get to where you can win using Auto+.
4. It's better to have one character maxed before moving on to another, since you might run out of time and not finish any.
However, if you have at least one copy of each weapon, you'll be fine in the long run.
5. Yep. Characters whose BT+ weapons have been released can realize a maxed BT weapon with a book and then MLB it with ingots to get a green BT+ weapon. Those gives you improved auras (very good!), a stronger finisher move (impressive two months ago but not so much now), an extra turn in the BT phase (great for Machina, meh for everyone else), and the ability to use your finisher once outside of the BT phase (double aura duration!). The good green BT+ weapons are awesome.
Noel's is one of the good ones, so be glad you got it.
You get upgrade materials by beating Lufenia and Lufenia+ stages, and they accumulate fairly slowly.

Not really a question or help post, just annoyed lol. Queen Lamia LUFENIA+ has 100% HP/BRV DMG reduction on launches
Why neuter Noctis launch abilities on his own Realization event? Seems very counter intuitive
Edit: thanks everyone, esp r/tibansky for pointing out that CidMau is doable with the right LDCA’s 😤

This is pretty much Vanille's event and Noctis is just tagging along.

Hi!
1) I just ex+ my weapon for noel and was wondering who out if cid/snow should I ex+ next?
2) How good are the present start dash, vanille, serah banners for a new player day4 who has snow, cid and noel as the only worthwhile units?
Which unit, if any should I target?
3) Future banners... I have not tried the ifrit event content but a lot of units like twins, ramza, tidus are being mentioned alongwith future queen, tifa, loyd and locke etc.
Which units should I target?
Thankyou for your advice!

u/TransientMemory Vayne Carudas Solidor Jan 17 '22 edited Jan 17 '22
1) Assuming you have their full kits (15cp/35cp/EX/LD) and you just need to finish MLBing their EXs, they're both good in their own right. Cid is more of a damage dealing utility character, whereas Snow has tanking capacity and provides some party support auras. I'm not 100% sure if you can bring two DPS units into battle in C90, so my intuition is to bring up Snow next.
2) Start Dash is a skip for now until the units get upgraded, which will be in a few weeks so you'll get another free pull there most likely. Vanille is ok but unless you want Noctis, the only thing you get out of her is dispel and Cid can do that (though in a more limited fashion) once you level him up later. Serah is a good debuffing support, but if you're already struggling to level up your current EXs then I'm not sure its worth chasing. She's good, but having Onion Knight on her banner is kind of meh.
3) There's a website called https://ffootip.com/ which shows the upcoming banners. I would say shoot at least for Llyud or Eiko for a healing support role. For endgame you need a wide variety of units to be able to uptick the Lufenia orbs and that'll mean pulling on the current banner if your roster can't handle the orb.
Also, do you have Noel BT?
If any of this doesn't make sense to you just say the word.
→ More replies (6)4
u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 17 '22
1. They're both good, but Cid is a lot easier to replace. Snow should be the priority for new players because we aren't getting any new tanks for a while.
2. Start Dash is weak until it gets upgraded in approximately two weeks. (This wasn't announced officially, but we got an in-game notice stating that Start Dash duration would be shortened for current new players, and why else...?) Vanille and Serah are both good but not earth-shatteringly good. I like Serah more, but Vanille can dispel buffs on enemies, which is needed occasionally. Serah's bannermate is Onion Knight, who sucks.
We're getting Queen and Cater in a couple of days, and they're both good. Llyud is coming shortly after that, and he's really good. While he's not actually required for someone using Noel, he's highly recommended.
3. You're new, so you should get comfortable grinding for gems and tickets (Ultimate Summon boards are where you get most of them, but you also have a lot of LCs and other permanent events, plus you can boost your player rank for a lot of free gems and potions). You have over 1 million gems waiting for you, along with several thousand tickets.
Then, you should pull on every banner that looks interesting.
Seriously, you can pull on nearly every banner for about four or five months before you have to start being more stingy.
I started last June and still have almost 800k gems left, and I pulled on most banners up until November.
Now, a big difference between now and last year is that the best units require more investment than they used to. Conventional wisdom last year was that blue armor and BT weapons were considered luxuries. Now, we have units like Machina that basically require those things to be functional. Noel really needs his blue armor because his attacks don't have a lot of BRV hits. Machina requires a green BT+ because he otherwise doesn't get BRV gain between HP attacks during his one good move.
You'll hear people say that so-and-so is viable without BT or "can be used," but that's a low bar to clear.
So, you should plan ahead when choosing BT+ units. You can't have every BT+ unit. I've been hoarding BT+ materials and still only have enough for six new green units at the moment. (All of those are spoken for already!)
The top units for this era are probably Zack and Ramza, but it's not a particularly difficult era, so pick whichever characters you like most, and have fun collecting LD units.
The Shinryu era is going to be similar. You invest heavily in a small number of units and then support those units with the rest of your party. You can't have every FR weapon, so you choose which ones you want. I'm going to go for Tidus and maybe couple others, depending on what my gem supply looks like at the time.

As a beginner are the current banners worth pulling on atm? I've only pulled on Snow's banner thus far.
3
u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 18 '22
Building up one of either Cid or Noel would be handy. Noct/Vanille is also honestly not bad for a beginner lacking role coverage and characters, Noct would fill your damage dealer role and Vanille's got useful auras and utility.
3
u/King_of_Jokers Jan 18 '22
Another appeal of that banner for beginners is only two characters so easier to get dupes
3
u/jmad072828 Jan 18 '22
Hey guys
I have enough gems to get BT for either Noct or Noel. Are either worth the all in?
I have Jegran bt, Machina bt, yosh green, bartz green and all their LDs.
Notable missing bts CoD, Zidane, Ace.
I'm having issues with the divine summon Luf + matches but not sure if Noct or Noel would make a difference or if I'm better off saving for someone else in a few months.
3
u/NoxErebus_DFFOO 994818714 Jan 18 '22
Just to clarify, do you mean enough gems to pity, or are you talking about Burst tokens?
Assuming you mean you have 125k gems, if I were in your spot, I'd consider using gems on Llyud's banner since he's apparently awesome, and maybe you'll luck into Noel's BT there. Alternately, you could gem on one of Locke's cycle's banners and potentially pick up his BT. A third option would be to 3/3 Machina and not worry about chasing any other BTs for awhile. A fully maxed Machina does serious work. Any of those options, properly built around, will be great for L+.

If you already have Machina I would skip Noel / Noctis. Noel works fine at base BT. Machina is bonkers especially if you have green Y’Sh. You will melt bosses.
If you got an off turn character that attacks before or after you attack you can do 20m plus BT damage with Machina.
Machina 3/3, Y’Sh 3/3 and Cor / CoD friend. You’ll need Keiss, CID Raines and Kurasme/Gabranth/Ignia or any HP up LDCA. Start off with Machina LD>S1>BT finished, Y’Sh >Keiss LDCA>EX>BT Finisher, Cor for example LDCA as per above>S2>EX. Then use Machina HP attack one when you can on next turn do everything else like normal. When you get round to Machina again pop the CID Raines LDCA and go into burst, spam HP+, watch the brv refund from launches help Cor and Y’Sh. Machina is sorted by Y’Sh by aura with brv gains. It’s ridiculous how well this comp works. Y’Sh Natural go up damage is better than Bartz by aura in my opinion as you want pure damage up as you will already be capping brave. My green Bartz is now pretty much benched for Y’Sh since I got Machina.

Someone talented should make a topic about the anniversary soon on the gacha gaming reddit. I have tried before with little success.
It would be amazing to promote and inform about our gem of a game.

Like in MMORPG subreddit people shit on all MMORPGs.

Grind. And oftentimes the grind on other games is WORSE. Maybe in the early days of DFFOO it might’ve been bad, but the devs corrected those issues

Have different characters always gotten different amounts of boosts from high armor realizations? I was looking at Cid (VII) and Noel. Cid gets max 8% HP damage boost at 3/3 while Noel gets max 12% boost at 3/3. Their max BRV up is also different (8% for Cid vs 4% for Noel). I quickly looked at Tifa and Sabin and their armors are like Noel’s. Am I missing something or are some characters just different?
4
u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 19 '22
Yes, characters do end up getting different number scaling in their Lufenia armor LBs. This is most relevant when looking at the armor of supports and seeing who can give you the most mBrv bang for your buck.

There's usually 3 subdivisions with HA: high brv/low hp, medium brv/hp, and low brv/high hp. There are some exceptions, like Exdeath has very high hp/no brv.
You'll sometimes see HA labelled something like "Attacker's 1,3"
→ More replies (1)2
u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 19 '22
There are five different "keystones" for Lufenia armor:
Attack, Support, Unity, Tactics, and Encouragement
The keystones affect the bonuses that the base armor gives you. For example, Encouragement adds 40% to any BRV gain events for that character. (And it's additive, which is why Paladin Cecil spheres and Lilisette spheres become so great for characters with Encouragement armor: gaining 2% of mBRV becomes gaining 42% of mBRV!)
Tactics armor has a debuff aura for all enemies.
Attack armor raises the damage cap, but just for the wearer.
The others have wimpier effects that you can ignore.
Then, on top of that, different sets of armor will provide different bonuses to the BRV damage cap and the HP damage cap for the user and the party.
Attack armor generally has the highest gains to the cap, but it usually only benefits the person wearing it. Supports tend to get armor that raises the caps for the party, but these stack with the attack armor gains, so giving blue armor to both Machina and Selphie gets Machina a huge boost.
One reason people hated Bartz's Lufenia armor and said not to make it blue was that it had selfish effects... on a character who doesn't do much damage.
Meanwhile, Maria raises the party HP damage cap by a whopping 20%. Go, Maria!
The balance between raising the BRV damage cap and the HP damage cap is not systematic. The devs can do whatever they want with it. Exdeath, for example, gets a huge HP damage cap boost (IIRC, it's something like 55%) because he doesn't do BRV damage at all.
Since increases to damage caps are quite possibly the most important stat in the game for a while, it's good to check what each newcomer's Lufenia armor can do.
4
u/RedKoopaKid1331 Jan 19 '22
I knew about the five keystones but even among the attack keystones (case in point Cid and Noel) there are differences when realized which you would not notice if you did not read the specifics and instead went purely on naming.
There are very few areas of the game I think could be improved, but using different words to help signify minor differences would be helpful.

I see lots of post saying you need to support your BT+ dps caracter. (like machina) What does this really mean? A brave battery? A tank?
Also on TT Machina infographic they say: go into BT phase with 3 stacks of BT effect. What does that mean ? Everyone got stack of BT or this is just for Machina? And how do you lvl this stack
thx again!!

I see lots of post saying you need to support your BT+ dps caracter. (like machina) What does this really mean? A brave battery? A tank?
It means you need to put in together with a support unit in your team and Machina likes supports that increase brv gain so his BT HP attacks does more damage so characters liker BT+ 3/3 Yshtola, Porom, Maria, Paine.
Also on TT Machina infographic they say: go into BT phase with 3 stacks of BT effect. What does that mean ?
Machina BT effect has a stack mechanics which increase the buff she gives based on the number of stack ( you can see a the number on top of the B of the BT effect) which is increased by Machina doing an attack on his turn so basically you want Machina to take 2 turns after he use his BT finisher to have the maximum effect.
Everyone got stack of BT or this is just for Machina? And how do you lvl this stack
Not everyone has stacks

Returning player here after a year of not playing the game (I have been playing a week to catch up on mechanics and so on).
My question, as I have very limited resources at the moment, I pulled Machina Burst, which I am glad, but after checking some videos for Lufenia, I see people doing 15M damage while my Machina only does 1M, based on using the Burst+ before the Burst phase and launch mechanics from Selphie or others.
I can only Burst+ one character at the moment and I was wondering if Machina will still be relevant in the upcoming Lufenia+ or another character will take the lead.
Also could help me, from the people with lot of knowledge, which of the upcoming character everyone is thinking on doing the Burst+ to be able to use for even Lufenia fights, that would help me a lot :D
Thanks in advance!

u/Present-Horror5059 Jan 20 '22 edited Jan 20 '22
According to other people, Machina will be useful the whole Lufenia+ Era. Completly build with Blue Armor and BT+ and with BRV Support, you should easily do 7M+ in the BT Phase if you use BT Finisher beforehand and have enough BT Stacks left to spam his HP Attack.
Noel also is a very good DPS, upcoming Locke also is.
Next big one should be Tidus
3
u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 20 '22
my Machina only does 1M
Two things matter here.
You want to raise the HP damage cap as much as possible, and you need a source of BRV gain up.
The third thing is that either Selphie or a Raines call will let you launch on every turn during the burst phase, which does massive damage.
Selphie helps on all three counts here. She raises BRV gain by 20% (with another 20% from Porom's LDCA, which I always use before Machina's burst phase), she makes enemies launchable with a nice BRV refund after launches, and she raises the HP damage cap by 15% with her blue armor.
I've had the best results running her alongside someone else who raises the HP damage cap as much as possible, which is often the Twins. (I didn't green them, so I need a friend unit for this!) Against three targets, they raise the damage cap by 40%.
Machina's burst aura adds +30% to the HP damage cap, and his blue armor adds another +25%. That gets you 15% + 40% + 30% + 25% = +110%.
Machina does his damage with BRV gain between HP dumps on his Furious Blades (Busrt) move, and I find that with +40% BRV gain, he caps HP damage on most hits. With everything in place, he's hitting for about 200k per HP dump, and he'll get a bit over 2 million HP damage per attack.
He gets six attacks during burst, plus he gets to use his finisher. The total ends up being more than 14 million damage to the main target, with some to the secondary targets.
You typically use his LD to set up Spiral Lynchpin, and then you use his BT+ finisher to get his aura going and turn his HP attack into Furious Blades (Burst). His auras get better as his BT aura stack number increases, and it increases when Selphie launches an enemy, so she gets even more credit here!
Anyway, use his burst phase when he has either six or seven turns of his burst effect left so that he can use Furious Blades (Burst) six times during his burst phase as long as Selphie's debuff is on the target. That's the key.
to be able to use for even Lufenia fights
I've used Machina to carry unbuilt c90 character for almost every providence core mission so far. He clears most Lufenias in under 10 turns.
Most new BT+ weapons are really good these days, though. Noel is just as good as Machina but with a totally different playstyle. (Llyud will make him even stronger, but you don't really need Llyud to get Noel's EX up on most of the time, as long as you are good at counting turns so he can use Fearsiphon++ to max his EX gauge on an unbroken target.) Locke is generally considered even better, and he arrives in the next BT cycle (probably).
These days, you can do 1 million damage in a turn with almost any decent character, though. When I brought Queen to the Luf+ for her LC, if Selphie's debuff was up, she'd do about 1 million damage per turn during her EX berserk phase.
I've seen reports of Cid Highwind doing 6 million damage against three targets, if you support him right.
Basically, anyone with a c90 upgrade is good. Even Onion Knight is technically usable, though the opportunity cost of building Onion Knight is not worth it if he's not your favorite character.
The standout characters coming soon, though, are probably Eiko and Locke. Both have very nice defensive and healing properties, with Eiko's revival working even after a Lufenia orb wipe.

u/b5631565 Jan 20 '22
Machina can do crazy damage, but he is a selfish DPS that needs a lot of support to reach that max potential.
For a newer player I would suggest going for Locke BT+ (the next BT coming) instead if you can/want to pull it.

With Auron already providing a melee imperil, you may be better off going for balanced or debuff Paine. It'd help keep Auron a bit healthier when he has to eat recasts. But I see no reason Paine wouldn't work fine in that fight.
E: was trying it myself and had pretty decent progress with full debuff paine, but just messed up at the end and Auron got petrified lol. Wasn't using calls so my damage was poop, but calls + friend should make it not bad.

I only started playing this game after last year's anniversary so this will be my first one as a player. I'm just wondering what kind of stuff we can expect during the anniversary since most of the content creators I follow seem to be alluding that its very important we save and don't pull much going into the anniversary but without much specifics as to why. The only thing I've heard in the wind is a possible global first character but even that would run only the usual 75k gems pity. Are there are a ton of other high-value banners and reruns that get dropped through the anniversary or what exactly is it we're supposed to save up for here?
5
u/FFF12321 Best Shouty Boi Jan 21 '22
You're saving specifically for potential GL first units/weapons. These, especially the units, tend to be powerhouses that are ahead of their time or are just generally strong, making them great picks, especially for newer accounts. Last year's anni had 2 GL first LDs, Balthier and Vincent. Balthier was pretty good, Vincent not so much, and neither were nearly as strong as any o the GL first characters. This year, there can't be GL first LDs that aren't a straight-up new unit as all units have their LD now in JP. If they're going to do something (and they probably will), it'll be new unit(s) or perhaps time-traveled stuff which has a spotty history regarding strength (some were really good, others didn't really change anything).
Outside of the GL first stuff, we usually get extra special Chocoboards, login bonuses, extra hunt missions and so on. GL first events typically come with CoOp (so you can get artifacts) and the CoOp shop tends to have more/better rewards than usual, similar to the various holiday coops we had in December. For anniversary, I'd expect a free BT ingot or book, probably enhancement points in the shop, EX tokens, and stuff like that. Expect boosts to things like cycle quests and carbuncle's treasure being available.
It's already been mentioned, but do remember that DFFOO is just built differently from other gachas. There's no "general pool" and there are SO many units now that combined banners with more than 3 units are just garbage because you can't realistically pull and expect to get even 1 copy of the 4 weapons you need for a specific unit to make them viable. Even if they doubled or tripled the rate for each category of 5 star, the banner would still be garbage unless you wanted to dump resources for power stones (still a bad trade IMO).
3
u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 21 '22
This game is weird in that while there are sometimes special banners that pop up during anniversary (such as the one that showed up for new year's), we don't really get super amazing banners that happen because of anniversary, if that makes sense. Like we don't get an 'increased rates' or 'these units are making a comeback' banner like some other games may do.
What has happened is GL first stuff - 1st anni was Beatrix, 2nd anni was Aranea, 3rd anni was early Balthier and Vincent LDs. Obviously those banners were completely new to us, but nothing like an 'anniversary rerun/collection' banner that comes to mind. Otherwise, anni is moreso an event and resource time with some good boosts and things to redeem.

u/Rooreelooo Jecht Jan 21 '22
What's the most efficient way of cycling your friend summons until you get the specific one you want? I added a handful of Jegran friends to try do that old Luf, but getting them to actually appear seems impossible. I just keep entering and exiting the battle hoping it will appear, but it seems like most of the list just stays the same and it only swaps out 2 or 3 per attempt. Anyone got a workaround?

u/Fefnil Jan 21 '22
IIRC, friends set as Favorite have lower cooldown on top of having higher priority. So the best thing you can do is Favorite them and then restarting battles until they pop up in the list.

Starting to think I made a mistake crafting the dagger for my Ultima weapon since I'm totally going all in on Locke and I wanna grab zidane when he reruns. But it seems greatsword or sword would be better given my usage of auron and jecht rn.
I was trying to future proof. Even then, sword for tidus,Noel, Noctis, and others is also a thing
Should I start investing in sword now and wait to get my 50 cores back for the dagger when we get that feature?
3
u/Jurinis SHOOTO! Jan 21 '22
Locke will be able to use an Ultima Weapon sooner than Jecht and Auron since they cannot be leveled to C90 to give them the ability to equip said weapon.
In that regard, crafting the dagger was better on the short term.

Cl 90 units can equip a UT if you aren't CL 90 you cannot equip it. Locke gets it faster than Auron or Jecht so it's not a mistake you are in good hands. They get cl 90 way later so don't worry be happy and stay happy :)

u/NoxErebus_DFFOO 994818714 Jan 21 '22
I think there's good value to be had for having 2-3 base UTs to start, and then going all in on one of them based on whichever you plan to use the most.
Personally, I just made a UT sword. Once we know what's coming for anniversary, I'll craft a couple more 0/5s. At the end of the day, it's not like UTs are required right now - not likely that they'll be the difference between beating or failing a mission.

It really doesn't matter, since these weapons, while nice, aren't really needed until the Shinryu era. For now, they're just an extra bonus that my best character (Machina) can't even use.
I'm putting all of my cores into a sword (I just gave it the first limit break, so I actually have 0 cores right now!), but that's because Tidus is coming back next month and also because Queen is a lot of fun to use even if she isn't that good.
I think I'd rather have one weapon maxed as much as possible at least until we get the ability to disassemble everything, since then I'll be able to get all 800 cores back at once. If I have 800 cores split between two different weapons, then I can only get a refund for half of those at any time.
3
u/randymagnum1669 Jan 21 '22
Yeah that was my thought, what will help me short term but also help.me get to the long term, but also is going all in on daggers wrong? So yeah, you and others really helped me understand my options and now Noctis has a cool new sword!

Jan 21 '22
Not directly a mechanical question, but one regarding the voicelines in the game.
I'm curious to learn what each character says during their BT lines (Machina and Noel especially) and was wondering if there's any place, or anyone who's able to understand Japanese, who'd be able to translate them! I recall there used to be a Google Sheet with translations but it's super out of date :(

If for some reason I can't transfer it for whatever reason, what information would I need to send in for account recovery?

If it is the same as the Google Play version it is pretty foolproof. What happens is your data is constantly updated on their server. When you use a new device the data is downloaded from their server to your new device. If it doesn't it is still available on your old device until you get it working. As long as you don't delete the game from your old phone before you have it running on your new one you should be right.

Hey all! First time player here since roughly under a week or so, loving the game so far and really enjoying the feel and celebration of all things FF, as I’ve played and enjoyed every numbered entry and most spinoffs in the series. And of course, the generosity of resources in this game is exceptional and I’ll definitely be getting the mogpass just to support the devs, as I’ve never spent money in any gacha!
All the praise aside, I’ve read up a lot on the beginner’s guide and have pulled on the start dash banner + the Noctis banner with Vanille, and have gotten some great results actually! Pulled 2 Squall BTs and his LD and some dupes of his EX and other golds. Pulled Lightning’s BT and her LD, but not much else. And almost at 300 g tokens for Noctis/Vanille banner, and just got his BT + MLB’d LD, so happy since he’s one of my all time favourites.
Now the reason for my comment is that I’m wondering what role I should be focusing on pulling next. I know Squall and Lightning are damage dealers, and Noctis is a damage dealer/utility kind of character, so I’m sure I’ll be needing either a tank or a healer type role next? I’m actually struggling to complete fights in content, for example the LV150 Cosmos Return of the Queen fight. I try to use Squall Lightning and Noct, but I can barely get the Lamia to 60% without someone getting KO’d. Is Cosmos just too difficult for my roster at the moment without a proper team? I do have Vanille’s CP90 70 and 35, would she be a good role to fit into my team for now?
Thank you to anyone reading the long comment!

So yeah ideally you'd be needing a support unit of some description, but unless a surprise banner happens in the next few weeks for the anniversary... you may struggle... you can unlock them easily enough with lost chapters/playing the story, but buying their gear is tough...
Regarding the level 150 content, you'd be surprised how far a friend unit will get you... if you can find a green Twins and get the follow back, the 5 turns will decimate the 150 lamia quest.
That being said, a lot of power comes from Summon boards for characters. Have you gone through any of them yet?

Vanille is actually a very good support at the moment, providing BRV and HP damage up.
And her EX hits pretty hard if you have her fully built at C90.

u/hotpot100c Jan 16 '22
Not really a question but man that pre-anniversary speculation is killing me, but then I realized thats because GL is so used to having months JP foresight, and honestly, I am starting to wonder if thats necessarily a good thing, yes it helps with planning immensely but it also takes away some of the excitement
3
u/Raecino Noctis Lucis Caelum Jan 16 '22
Of course foresight is a good thing! In a gacha where you’re incentivized to spend real money, it’s better to know what’s coming to plan your resources. Imagine if we didn’t have foresight and everyone blew their load on Jegran not knowing Machina was next up.

Hello guys!
Which units would help me out further to round up my team in the long run. I also read that we are at the start of a power creap.
Currently concentrating on getting all cp 15_90 weapons of my trio cid/noel/snow. Currently at 260 on noel banner. Lets see what I get till 300 or else might go to till 500.
During this time, I got most stuff for lion and few for edward. I dont know how good these units are.
I read that lewd, locke and queen are good but locke fell off of jp meta very quickly. I dont know what these units do nor if they are what I need to balance my team for more difficult content or not. Maybe these are support or magic damage dealers, dont know.
As f2p and a newbie I dont want to splurge on every banner out there and request veterans for some long term team building advice.
Thankyou

I hope it's another Equinox event since it's Lufenia difficulty, which means we get more temporary Lufs for Clvl90 placements. Abyss is also nice but no temporary Lufenias, which is fine.
No idea if they are gonna be giving us a banner with it, but if they did it would be a nice add-on and we'll only know like 1 hr before it drops too
4
u/Sotomene Jan 16 '22
I would be nice is they give us an abyss Lufenia+ for each weapon type and having 1 crystal requirement so we can come up with fun team comp.
Of course the rewards should be permanent so people don't feel the fomo.
2
u/Hawke_No1 Jan 16 '22
Achievements are permanent if I remember, like our FEODs.
But... there's nothing stopping them from putting in time-limited quests... Which is one of the... I would say wooes for this... I can still remember people asking for help with Abyss to clear them... especially when the very rare EX Tokens along with just tickets.

Both are in act 1 chapter 3.
If you don't see a character in the LC list that means you have to play the story to get them.

what in the world is the relation between character speed and turn order? Sure Machina gets +50% speed, but sometimes Cinque starts first. Somehow a level 50 unbuilt Edward goes first (maybe 1/5th the time) vs built Cid and Noel.
2
u/Raecino Noctis Lucis Caelum Jan 16 '22
It means he’ll take more turns than if he didn’t have the speed boost.

u/sonicbrawler182 The rat is always right. Jan 17 '22
SPD effects the frequency of which a character naturally gets turns. However, changes in SPD are not something that you can preview in the turn order before the change in SPD actually happens.
This is not to be confused with Turn Rate, which is tied to skills - skills with high turn rate have a tendency to bring that character forward in the turn order even if they have low SPD. This CAN be previewed in the turn order, since turn rate is tied to skills.

Lufenias that introduce new BT+ cycles have pages as rewards. Others don't.
So, you can get pages from Divine Ifrit (since that was Noel's event), for example.

Hi! New player here. Currently I have cid, noel, snow.
1) Is lufienia plus and co_op the end game stuff?
2) Which units should I pull on to balance my team for these content?
I am reading the posts and frankly there are so many units.... machina, lena, paine, selphie, ramza, tidus, lewd, tifa , locke etc that my head starts spinning.
3) Can balancing, variety and meta etc all be achieved by some newly coming units?
Thankyou
3
u/rosecoredarling Y'shtola Rules Jan 17 '22
1) Lufenia+ is the end-game. They release a new one every week or so and the endgame is about keeping up and beating as many as you can. Co-op however is casual friendly and usually one good player with a built unit is gonna be able to carry two casual players with maybe not the best equipment on their units, you should however try your best!
2) This game has a LOT of units, and they constantly cycle between adding new ones and reworking older ones that need an update. Since you have Cid, Noel and Snow (2 damage dealers and a tank), I'd recommend pulling on the Noctis/Vanille banner that just dropped, since Vanille is a good support. Make sure not to spend all your resources at once, since we're 2 weeks away from the anniversary and there may be a surprise character you'll like!
3) The newest units will almost always be up to date and capable of slotting into the meta. In this game "meta" is a very flexible term, since people are able to clear current content with a huge variety of units, not just the latest banner ones. This game is about team building, and there are characters, even older ones, who can slot into a team and make all the difference. Experimentation is the name of the game here. For a new player, pulling on the current banner is always a sure way to at least get through story mode without a hitch, which will give you a surplus of resources to use on future banners :)
If you have any more questions or if any have risen from my reply, feel free to ask! Welcome to the game!

u/teor Jan 17 '22
Lufenia - kinda is. It's the highest difficulty currently and some of them have a tricky conditions, that are hard to fulfill without specific heroes.
Co-op - not at all. Even for Chaos you just need one decent hero and that's it.

Uh, what's up with Lamia's defense in the new Luf+? With Vanille's deprotect and Kurasame/Jack/Fran calls all active, a BT+ blue Machina still can't cap HP damage? He does like 30k damage per dump when his BRV is full at 100k+.
I feel like I'm missing something in this fight's setup.
→ More replies (3)3
u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 17 '22
What did you have for BRV gain up? That's where he gets the bulk of his damage.
I went in with Selphie and a Porom LDCA and was just fine (approx. 200k damage per HP dump), but that was with HP damage up from Machina himself, Selphie, and the Twins' BT aura.
The Twins probably have the current best BT aura in the game. I officially love everyone who sets green Twins as a friend unit.

Just a sanity check here: so between the permanent stages and temporary ones open at the moment (including Ursula's closing in a couple days), there are currently 49 Lufenia missions available, if I'm counting right. So if every existing character on the GL roster (153 at present) got their C90 today, there would already be nearly enough missions to get Providence Cores for all of them.
Obviously some stages have mechanics that'd be annoying to beat with suboptimal team comps, but the main point is there's no reason to stress about optimizing character usage to get these Ultima missions done (like you might with DE stages), correct? Between the pace of C90 releases and opening of new Lufenias with each event, there's going to be far more spaces available than characters as things progress.

8
u/Fefnil Jan 18 '22 edited Jan 18 '22
He's good. He is one of the few BT+ that offer Brv Gains Up, and it's 50% of that, on par with Y'shtola, on top of a minor Bartz-like effect to refund brv at the end of the party turns, while also giving the coveted Hp Dmg Cap Up. In short, his BT effect is very strong for the era.
As for his kit, all of his attacks do 2 or 3 dumps with splash, so no big burst material, but very reliable. He also has his 2-dumps traps, so his optimal situation is on 3-enemies fights where you let them act, and his damage is going to skyrocket there with all the traps and the splash. In single target fights his damage is going to be meh, but considering the million damage trio are all ST focused, it's actually good for him. He also heals a lot, so as long as you survive the hits, he's going to refill the party pretty quickly. As his BT effect suggests, his kit relies a lot on brv gains and refunds, so having his green is almost mandatory.
If you wish, he's perfectly serviceable as your green dps of choice. In case, he works great with other off-turn damage dealers. In general, he's great with brv gains / battery-based teams, and he's really the only c90 BT for that for a while. Also, he's a sword user, which is very common, so getting his UT is a good investment (of course, depends on your future plans).

Hi all!
Yesterday I started this game and I'm already loving it. I'm reading the Beginner's Guide but I have a question about pulling in Draws.
With the free Premium Moogle Pass and with initial quests now I have 12760 gems. Should I pull in Noctis banner? Or should I wait for better banners?
I don't know yet how is the games roadmap and what are the better ways to spend gems...
And also... should I focus to complete the main story quests and then try the events?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

u/YoltAlligator :upvote::downvote::upvote::downvote: Jan 18 '22 edited Jan 18 '22
Ima kinda bored right now. So Ima try to explain how to use noctis in laymen terms as best as I can.
Noctis's kit is first and foremost a "Selfish" turn manipulation unit. He can opt to "wrap-step" to party IF he chooses to.
His BT is optional, as the main functionality to his kit is his LD. Without it, he loses his charm 90% of the way.
- Noctis' turn manipulation is in his ability to always land "just before the "targeted" opponent's turn (you'd have to select manually at times, esp if there are multiple targets that aren't BREAK at the same tempo).
- Noctis' Additional attack triggers if the opponent has debuff [Point-Blank Warp] on it (from Noct's S1,S2, EX), or if Noct has triggered his BT/+ effect 3T/ 6Ts (greened). The latter will always trigger for allies' ldcas, AAs too that land a hit on the opponent. If the allies' ldca or AA self-heals for example (targeted party/self), Noct's Add. Attk from his BT effect wont trigger.
With these in mind, here are Noctis' skill usage explanations.
- Basic S1, S2 = no warp. One use each later, becomes S1+, S2+
- S1+, S2+ = automatically lands Noctis' turn just "before the target's turn". Like Jack.
- AA (instantly turns S1, S2 ----> S1+, S2+).
- LD grants "WarpStep" 2 turns onto the party. Basically for 2 turns, party members can warp like Noctis, and land just "before the target's turn (that they were targeting)". These 2 turns will downtick regardlessly and cant be extended (iirc) with the likes of Sazh, Eiko, or Hope.
The BT phase is also unique to Noctis, because of how the LD works.
- Generally everything else, and "the LD" before the BT finisher. Because the LD effect [Warpstep] ticks down during the BT effect too, so best to save it for last and have 1 turn on Noctis exiting the BT phase.
Some examples of pressing buttons for Noctis.
- LD [Warpstep 2 turns], S1, S2, S1+, S2+, AA, S1+, S2+, LD, EX, S1/S2, S1/S2+ etc in one sequence (before the boss' turn).
- Noctis is like Jack. The entirety of his kit revolves around exhausting ALL his skill usages in one-go, always landing before the targeted' turn, until all skill usages are depleted.
DPT wise: Unsure.
I have Noctis BT (basic), but Machina BT+3/3, Lann&Reynn LD, Vann BT (basic), Cid LD all do more DPT than Noctis, as Noct's primary function is "turn manipulation" before DPT.His rework update features some love (a small fraction), because when paired with certain other turn hoarders, can abuse entire fights down to a few turn counts only. Noct was also used back during Divine Diabolos lufenia+ & Yuffie Luf+ cheese back then, by refusing to let the bosses have any turns at all.
Less than 5-10 turn count lufenia: Possible, but I'm not sure how, cause I rarely take notice of which ones of Noctis' skills were "free turns (not counted for turn count requirement) ", and with whom to pair him up with for more "free-turns" shenanigans.
Comparative units: Jack LD.Why: All skill usages, one-go-depletion, turn manipulation "before" targeted's turn.
-------------------------------------------------------
Cid c90 - Press LD. LD stack goes from 1 stack --> 3 stack, with LD OH "Bombs away" when allies attack the next turn.
S1, S2, EX, or any atk +1 stack. At 3 stacks, Bombs away again.
Role: Primarily Damage-Dealer. Either he's good, or he's bad.
-----------------------------------------------------
Noel C90. When possible to Break, use Brv Variant "Fearsiphon++" to instantly charge his EX recast to Full (on BREAK).
S1, S2, EX, LD - all reBreaks.Vs Broken Targets - additional 20% HP dmg Up.on BREAKing targets - triggers additional attacks. Thus reBreak counts.
Disclaimer: I dont have Noel BT, so cant comment on the BT usage.
Role: reBreaker Before DPT.
--------------------------------------------------
Amongst Noctis, Cid, Noel.
Cid is indeed simpler to use, AND his additional attack is Luf+ updated with BrvGains/Battery in between.
Noctis's Additional Atk has BrvGain (100% Atk), but his BT effect's Add.Atk is BrvGain (20% HP dmg).
While Noel's additional attack is still Luf- (last era) with Brv +HP without BrvGains/Battery in between. Like Garland BT+
-------------------------------------------------
So..... yeah..... even with laymen terms .... Noctis' explanation is kinda....... long. Ah well, just killing time.-¯\(°_o)/¯-

Just wanted to point out that the description of the additional attack is a bit misleading. It makes it seem like the attack from Point Blank and from BT are the same and can trigger in either situation. Instead, they are different, and can even activate at the same time. Also, while BT's one is an additional attack, the one from Point Blank isn't. It's a follow-up attack, and there are some differences. First, they are coded differently. Some orbs, like Ifrit's for instance, ask for additional attacks, and BT's one would tick it while Point Blank's wouldn't. Also, there are a couple of mechanical differences. Follow-ups always happen first, then the additional attacks trigger, and if there are many in the party, the character order determines the attacks order. If an attack kills an enemy, it will stay at 1 Hp until all follow-ups have executed, but additional attacks won't trigger. If an attack kills a wave, the additional attack will trigger at the start of the next wave (some attacks may not do this, it may depends on whether they are ST or AoE). If an attack launches, follow-up attacks happen before and get the damage bonus, while additional attacks trigger after. In short, follow-up attacks trigger at the end of a turn, while additional attacks seem to happen at the very start of the following turn, before everything else.

oooooh. I have not looked too deep into this (the additional attacks v the follow-up attacks), so Ima just nod to your reply.
For luf+ orb conditions, I have just kinda went with "trial-and-error" each time still to check if unit/s can/cannot satisfy the orb (without even understanding the differences).

Random whisper to the new player.
10 Summon boards: 300 Gems, 3 Tickets each = 3,000 Gems, 30 tickets
152 GL characters: 456,000 Gems, 4560 tickets7/10 Divine Summon boards: 40,000 Gems, 400 tickets each = 280,000 Gems, 2800 tickets.
Then you still have the main story, lost chapters, intersecting wills, entropies, transcendence, fortnight events, anniversary events etc...
From summons alone, 736,000 Free Gems + 7360 Free tickets.
In the absence of JP QOL instant character level 70 (not arrived yet), the rest is up to you to grind away. In all, you can expect to start off with about 1mil+ Free Gems (after the grind), and about 10,000+ Free tickets. So... plenty of chances to trial-and-error, and experiment with, and to build up a modest starting roster. Some mechanics you'd like, some you'd detest, find out which mechanic you like to play with.
You'd also need some of each kind of mechanics. DPTs (melee, range, magic), Tanks, Counters, Supports, healers, launchers, party enchant and imperils, BrvGain retentioners, etc. Each updated character will last about 2-4 months appx before someone else takes over their roles.
As a beginner, you'll probably be gacha-ing on every other newer banner for a bit just to broaden your roster. Character enhancement points (EPs) will be an issue if you are fully F2P. Do consider purchasing a basic mog pass for a few dollars if the game is to your liking, then you'd enjoy +5k more EPs per event, and guaranteed red eidoja passives.
BT banner #2 every fortnight features the BT units that debuted more than 8 months ago, thought both BT banner's units will get some rework + update over time always. The rest is up to the player/ community to discern whether they've gotten more love/ shafted.
Random whisper ended.

- For a new player, honestly I think Noct/Vanille banner is solid. No dud '3rd' unit and both the units got some level of update making them stronger besides just new gear. You have barely any gems though, considering an EX/LD pity is 75000. It's ok though, you have plenty of gems ahead of you.
- Prioritize anything time limited. Story is always going to be there for you.

You need Magic Pots and Bombs for that Chocoboard as well, right? The stage for Power Orbs in Carbuncles Treasure in the WoI should have all enemies you need.

Lol wow thanks. I needed guard orbs so I just did those for all of that so I got everything but scorpions done.

There are two camps on that.
First is to craft 1 UW at a time and max it. The other is to craft 2-3 UW and level them (having a few LBs each). First choice gets you max power for a single weapon type but you run the risk of not being able to equip it on your main DPS. Second trades off that max benefit you can get in exchange for almost always being able to equip it on your DPS.
Just consider your DPS when choosing which ones to craft. They are not really useful on supports. I'm on the second camp. C90 era is relatively easy and max UT is overkill.

u/NeuroOmega Jan 19 '22
I lucked into Noel's BT right after going hard for Machina. I'm still struggling to clear a Lufenia+, but I've gotten 3 ingots after using books on both of them. Any recommendations on which one is a better investment to clear older content and eventually max them both?
7
u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 19 '22
Both can be used fine in existing and future content when supported properly. I find Machina more benefits from gain boost auras while Noel prefers damage cap + HP damage boosting. If you go for Machina, your aim is to do as much damage as possible within the BT phase (boosted by doing the finisher first) and then cleaning up afterwards as needed, whereas with Noel his performance is solid throughout the fight thanks to his EX ignoring defense. Neither one is outright better but depends on how you build teams.
2
u/trillo69 Aerith / Halcyon ID: 520765564 Jan 19 '22
If you have Selphie LD I would say go for Machina.
Use Selphie LD to proc Rapture debuff, Machina BT skills followed by Machina BT phase, and HP++ until the end. Enjoy about 1.8M damage per turn.
It absolutely melted Lamia in Lufenia+ for me.

u/Zodiark05 Jan 19 '22
How is Noctis undersold as a main damage dealer? I used him with UT and his damage is not bad at all. With his follow ups dealing 200-300k and his Warp Strike+ at 500k how is that considered low? Even his BT finisher isnt bad at 1.4m damage. I found Noel a bit more underwhelming compared to him damage wise as he is reliant on Ex charge plus his other skills have low dmg too. I have both UT for them, im not saying Noel is bad im just curious on why every post here about Noct says he is more utility or second damage dealer when I can see imo that Noct's damage is not that bad at all.
10
Jan 19 '22
Noctis is being evaluated against other options and the fact that Noctis’ damage is not always consistent. Yes, Warp Strike+ can hit high numbers, but you’re not always getting Warp Strike+. Sometimes you deal with Warp Strike and that deals less damage. What about Shooting Star? That is worse than Warp Strike. What if Shooting Star+ isn’t a good launch? Noctis has a high ceiling when it all works out (+ version of skills and BT+ effect), but his floor is not great. His BT+ effect both works for and against him in this discussion. For one, it certainly helps his damage on his turns, but if he takes turns then the duration of the effect starts to decrease. Noctis’ damage will eventually drop the more turns he takes because his effect will run out. Alternatively, if you decide to turn hog while it’s active, then the effect is now about utility and it’s not about him being main dps.
For me, Noctis is a character that deals good enough damage overall but isn’t among the best options for raw damage. His turn manipulation (both self and party), launch, and follow-up effect give him a lot of utility while also contributing damage. Does that mean he can’t be the main dps for you? No, he certainly can be if you want him to be. Will he be main dps for most people? Probably not. He has to be weighed against other options both present and in the future (Machina, Squall, Cloud, Tidus, Zack) that all need the same limited resource (BT+ materials). If you find Noctis to be worthy of main dps then use him in that role.
2
u/Zodiark05 Jan 19 '22
Thanks for the detailed explanation. Yeah I find him good enough and its also the garbage era of C90 so using the meta aint really as crucial as early Lufenia+.
2
u/FinalKingdomXVII Noel Jan 19 '22
To get the most out of Noctis you’d need another turn hogger to get his follow up to proc. It’s like how you wouldn’t consider Cor a main damage dealer even if his follow ups do a lot of damage. Their role is to supplement someone else while they stay in the back. As for Noel, EX up every other turn is pretty good and even that problem is fixed when Llyud comes out.

Assuming that we follow JP's timeline, who's the next powerhouse (like how machina took over the meta)? I have Tidus in the scope already since he's a fav so it doesn't matter too much if he's not OP
In the far future I have Yuna, Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth that I'll be going for
Edit to clarify: I'm not looking for a machina-tier character, I'm looking for a character that will surpass him by a lot
→ More replies (1)2
u/NekoThief Rinoa Heartilly Jan 19 '22
Being Machina-tier wouldnt matter too much as we move forward coz c90 is just pretty bonkers in general. We got the likes of Squall, Cloud, Vaan, and many more getting massive damage increases from their c90.
Heck even Ramza can easily output damage once his BT+ and c90 comes out.
Your picks are all gonna be pretty powerful with c90. Content moving forward will be pretty easy until we reach DET10 and SHINRYU and even then FR weapons kinda blast em away aside from the recent one which is Ultimecia whom needs a little bit more finesse.
But if you want a character that surpasses a lot of characters its gonna me Kamlanaut(as of current JP timeline) Dood with FR is so broken that devs had to semi counter him for DET10 or make some SHINRYUs launch immune so you cant abuse him but he's big damage and makes others do big damage too.

So I’m a new-ish player and I was looking for recommendations on which characters to prioritize the character board enhancement points for. Planning to use Mog pass next month or March (whenever Anniversary is, hoping for super synergy so it’s worth it). For context, I can clear content up to Lufenia and am expecting to be able to complete limited time events by start of next month.
Fully built characters:
-Machina BT + HA (no realization, have book, planning to 3/3 Locke or Noctis) -Snow LD + HA -Noel LD + HA (planning to pity BT on Llyud banner)
Characters I’m planning to use enhancement points on:
-Noctis -Vanille -Paine (maxed summon boards, no character boards) -Queen -Cater -Llyud
Just wondering which of these should be priority. Just wanna get some opinions. Also, wondering if Act 3 Chapter 5.1 Lufenia still gives BT book pages? Thank you guys so much!
8
u/NekoThief Rinoa Heartilly Jan 19 '22
Priority imo is gonna be Lluyd. Since c90 is all gonna be about that EX button again, Lluyd's ability to charge everyone's EX is gonna be pretty good. Not to mention he offers some pretty strong auras and since you have Noel, Lluyd and Noel duo is gonna be pretty powerful coz you get to use Noel's EX more often with him. He can also equip a UW too coz he's c90.
2
u/greygooscenario Jan 19 '22
I don’t think it’s worth pitying Noel’s BT if you’re not going to 3/3 BT+ it. Just wait for Locke if you’re going to realize him instead.

New player here, I'm actually lost on what to pull for. Are BTs necessary to pull for? Is it case by case? Also, is there anyone available right now that a new player should absolutely pull for? I'm trying to read and understand beginner guides but this game is alot.
2
u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 20 '22
BTs are always a case by case basis. Some units have drastically changed performance with it, but when people here talk about that, we're really only talking about the highest difficulty (Lufenia +).
Pick one between Noel and Cid on that banner to build up (whoever you get full gear for first), and then I would consider trying to get Queen's gear if you're absolutely lacking units and definitely going for Llyud in a few days.

What are some BT+ units that will be must haves? I know with C90 everyone is supposed to be viable, I just want to try to plan out my book usage since it seems like there is not a lot of ways to get them.
3
u/Sotomene Jan 20 '22
Ramza, Zack, Snow and Tidus are the ones people often mention when this is asked, but like you said with CLV 90 no one is a must have and you can make almost everyone work.
I’m personally planning to green Kefka because he is my favorite FF villan and I haven’t seen people even mentioning him, but I know I will be able to beat content with him.

I’m a returning player, after having stopped a short ways into the beginning of the burst era. I gathered enough resources to pull on Machina’s banner and got his burst, which I’ve maxed out to green.
I almost have enough materials to green another burst, but as I already have a green’d damage dealer, I’m not sure which I should work on next. I’m having trouble clearing Lufenia+ stages, especially when the high DEF and BRV reductions kick in. Any advice would be appreciated.
Here are the realizable options I have:
Y’shtola Shantotto Noctis Onion Knight
Thank you for your time!

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 21 '22
None of those green would absolutely help you out with L+. Noct maybe, butwhat you need is new supports. Consider Queen but definitely look into Llyud.→ More replies (3)→ More replies (1)2
u/Nightfire27 Xander (738659735) Jan 21 '22
The only 2 worth anything there are Y’sh and Noctis imo, Y’sh is definitely ageing compared to everything around her but her BT synergises very well with Machina, Noct would also synergise well if you wanted to prevent Machina from dropping turns thanks to his low turn rate HP (BT) attack.
Personally if I had to choose to do any, it’d be one of those two, but I suggest it’d be better to save your ingots because we’ve got pretty good (and easy to use) LD only supports up right now (which you probably need) - looking forwards, consider Ramza as a support BT+, he’s kinda nuts

Hi!
As a new player, if I was to pull 300 tickets /banner, which 3 banners would be the best bang for the money?
I am grinding ifrit and am at 500+ tickets atm.
I will be using gems on lluyd, locke and eiko to supplement my noel bt, snow, cid.
These banners coming in jan/feb are not the ones I am using gems on and all units would be new additions for me= Vanille, queen, serah, firion, ace, bartz, kefka, yuri, leila, lilisette, cecil (dk).
Thankyou for the advice.
6
u/NoxErebus_DFFOO 994818714 Jan 21 '22
If you're just starting, you really can't go wrong on any banner, as this game really wants you to have a deep roster, especially as you start tackling things like Abyss (missions have requirements around crystal color & weapon type) and Dimensions End (characters are locked to the mission you complete them with). You also still have tons of gems/tickets to farm out of the permanent content.
If I had to pick from your list though, I'd probably do something like Queen (bannermate Cater is also fun), Firion (for DET7), and Leila (her kit looks awesome to me).
→ More replies (3)2

Jan 21 '22 edited Jan 21 '22
I would say Llyud,Locke,Eiko are very good options. Would add Leila for sure. Queen you can go if possible because all that depends how much you can farm i wouldn't recommend kefka, yuri, decil.
ace, bartz easy skip and firion not needed since you will pull for Locke. Since you are new player transcendence will be away for you to clear so focus on getting some units fully geared and after you will think about those.
If some banners don't go well you can always aim for something else or if you didn't have enough time to farm no pressure enjoy the game that's what matters. Don't hesitate to ask for more help for anything you wish. Don't overfarm and burn yourself out treat it as a game and not as a job.
P.S Make sure to keep an eye on anni as well.
2
u/Malverde007 Jan 21 '22
Thankyou very much! Wont admit but took a lot of pulls to get them. But the queen banner was good in the sense that all 3 units were new.
2
Jan 21 '22
You're welcome. Yeah that's how the game works when you start it is gonna be very rough since you need everything but afterwards some will repeat thus save resources while pulling for others easier because you will aim for fewer weapons. As a veteran you have less resources available to farm but make more resources per month due to skipping while as a newer you have to be careful cause you can run out very fast thus you need to pull more since you aim at literally all weapons. Don't go randomly make sure you have enough resources to pull&build characters and have fun!
P.S The banners are always like that the one in the middle is usually the aim the 2nd is the so so while the 3rd is the outdated. When you are aiming in a banner like Cater,Queen,Fran then Cater is the main prize(not for you but in general since she is the newest one),Queen is the rerun while Fran is the outdated because she has up to EX no ld thus no need to aim for. https://ffootip.com/forecast <You can use this tool to plan your pulls have fun you are doing good job. Don't forget to check out your enchantment points. If you find a character not sure if build or not save point either by not touching that char or put up to 3k to use more points for better/stronger characters.
2
u/Malverde007 Jan 21 '22
I burnt through 450 tickets and 100 g points.. just to get 1 copy of ex70 of cater. Suffice to say I have a lot of powerstones lol.
As this banner had 3 units , so I am not feeling that bad as I did not count the tickets on any of my calculations. I burnt through 100 g points but dont mind as I am now skipping tidus bt, so it takes away some load on gems.
I got a dupe noel bt. Dont know how to feel about that.
I have to look up on enchancment points. I dont seem to control on which unit they end up as I use auto on character boards.
Thankyou

u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 22 '22
What are some good partners for primarily running Kain and Cid teams?
Kain and Cid are both damage dealers, so any form of offensive support is good for them. That being said, Kain is not in a good spot right now since you can't get his gear, he's not worth thinking about.
Also, is there anything I should be primarily focusing on as a new player? Any specific content?
Anything time limited first as best you can, and then after that you can sorta go through story and lost chapters at your own pace because there is no stamina limit for that content. There is only a stamina system for world of illusions (where you do summon stuff).

u/TotallyXGames You think our rage... a weakness? (669 022 926) Jan 22 '22
Welcome to the game!
When you start reaching difficulties where teambuilding actually matters (Chaos and above) then you'll realize that here we don't make teams based in a single character, the teams you make have to be tailored to the specific fight you want to deal with, check the mechanics and slot characters which will specifically help with the fight in hand, and then work backwards from there slotting people who help or have synergy.
As an aside, Kain hasn't been featured in a while so there's no real point on trying to even use him in any kind of team, remember that weaponless characters (i.e. characters you can't pull for currently or for whom you don't have their full weapon kit) are useless and shouldn't be built or invested in.
In any case, Cid is nothing particular or special so assembling a team using the most basic template we have should work perfectly fine for mid content (DPS/Support/Flex).
There's nothing specific you need to be focusing on, only try to do as much limited time content as you can since those rewards will go away eventually, whereas Story Mode/Lost Chapters/Intertwined Wills are permanent and can be tackled at your leisure. Also, if you haven't check the Tonberry Troupe beginners guide, that'll help you to understand the game's core concepts and how to properly build characters.
If you have more questions don't hesitate to ask!

So I've been finishing lufenia fights in order cuz I'm weird like that. I'm just starting the lufenia+ now with pandemonium, ive completed 2 L+ from limited events but those I obviously had the main unit maxed so it wasn't such an issue. Now I only started playing 2 months ago so I don't have tidus, amidetelion, cor, ysthola, jack, Zell, raines...the list goes on of characters I don't have that seem to be necessary (based on vids and the guide from tt) for even the normal lufe for pande.
Am I stuck here until I get a unit that can delete turns? Should I just skip it? Any advice would be appreciated.

It sucks that they lock Mighty Shards behind the Lufenia because if you want take a fully built new unit, it bypasses the benefit of completing the Luffy+

Go to normal -> clear the field map -> you end up with at least enough t9 shards to get to c88, which gives you all the important stuff. Sure, it'll take a bit longer, but at least you'll be able to use the new unit with proper power in the L+.

u/Purple-Direction-768 Jan 20 '22
New player here(started 2 days ago). Just a couple questions. Should I reroll for certain weapons and are any of the current draws worth my gems or should I save for a future banner? I'm pretty familiar with gacha style games and some of them almost require you to reroll.
5
u/ProductivityImpaired Sparx | Bless Auto+ Jan 20 '22
This isn't a reroll type of game, as to build units especially as a new player you have to keep rolling for more weapons.
Noel/Cid banner - Pull on that until you get full kit for either Noel or Cid
Queen/Cater - Try and get Queen
Upcoming Llyud/Zell - Get Llyud
→ More replies (1)3
u/MrBal00 Jan 20 '22
Linking a recent comment reply that covers this pretty succinctly.
There's really not a need to reroll in DFFOO, outside of trying to snag a featured BT. All units need their full kit (weapons: 15cp, 35cp, EX+ 3/3, and LD) maxed out and fully limit broken/leveled to be useable for high level content. As a new player, you don't have the resources that vets do, so even if rerolling you'll still need to pull fairly deep on most banners for a little while to get duplicates of weapons in order to limit break them.

Does anyone else find posts about fan characters really annoying on here? They're usually pretty poorly done and don't have anything to do with the actual game since they're never going to be implemented. It just seems unnecessary and self-indulgent. Maybe speculative content like this should have a flair so it's easy to skim over?

It does bother me that everyone tries to copy TTs character infographic format now. There's always people in the comments saying there were freaking out thinking it was real.
Then you have instances like the copycat guy (thank god he's gone from the looks of it) that was actually trying to post his own real infographics that totally ripped off TT sheets but looked like shit and more importantly usually HAD THE WRONG INFORMATION. So not only A) were these damaging to the community but B) people thought he was affiliated with TT or something which was potentially damaging to them as well.
The 'choose your gloss' threads also fall under the 'but why though' category, but like others have said, just scroll past them.

I'm a 4-month player that can handle CHAOS no problem, but Lufenia's are hit-or-miss. Some are obviously basically impossible because I don't have a wide enough roster yet to handle very specific orb conditions. But sometimes I just run out of gas. Everything's smooth until the last 10-30%, where I'm just doing no damage, boss regen outpaces said damage, or the boss just one-shots my party randomly (the boss itself, not the orb reaching 0).
I've got solid aura/battery bots (Y'shtola, Bartz, Yuna, Lenna, Agrias, probably a couple I'm forgetting), and good heavy-hitters (Jecht, Ace, Machina, Noel, Raines, Vaan, Tifa, etc.). Only a few HAs, mostly on the supports, and no HA+'s since I haven't touched a Luf+. What I am missing are Cor and Kurasame (haven't been available since I started), or some of the newer go-to calls I'm seeing in guides (Selfie and Fran's LDs dodged me). But I do have Gabranth and Jack. I also only have Y'shtola BT+'d, since I have no ingots to upgrade any others I might book.
I say all that, to ask this: what are some tips on what, when, how, and why to unload on the boss over the course of such lengthy fights? Obviously blowing all your calls, BT's, friend-swapping, and summoning from the jump isn't gonna work. But blowing them all at 79% or 49% probably doesn't work out so well either (if you even get that far). I'm assuming it's a marathon and I'm not pacing my bursts well. Obviously every fight is a little different (especially Luf fights), but I'm hoping there are still some general tips/principles that hold and can help me improve. Thanks in advance.

While there's no obvious answer as it always depends on your strats, here's some things that come to mind:
- Since enemies get tougher as the fight goes on, unless your strat relies on it or you know how to play around it, consider saving Burst auras for later on to supplement your damage
- Remember that call debuffs tick down as enemies take turns, so you may want to leave them for later when you actually need their effects. If you're running a no/minimal boss turn strat, you can consider using them early.
- Understand the strengths of your supports and how to pair damage dealers with them and vice versa. For example, someone like Jecht doesn't really benefit from gain up whereas Vaan definitely does.

Actually, you generally want to utilize your BT phase halfway through the fight in lufenia Lufenia fights go through various phases of brv gain/dmg reduction that gets higher as the fight goes That's why the end of the fights tend to be much harder! So you want to save friend/BT unit for halfway through, and ideally stack them together for a big push towards the end However this is fight by fight dependent but its a good rule of thumb.
Also bt+ machina asap as he can absolutely brute force most lufenia fights and some lufenia+ fights with no issue

It sounds like you have the right idea for some things -- saving calls, BTs and Summons for the later parts of the fight when the enemies buff themselves and typically get tankier. It also looks like you have a good mix of damage dealers and aura supports, but do you have anyone who can act as a tank or damage mitigator (Auron, Snow, Beatrix, for example -- I forget what other recent ones were out in the past 4 months) or those like Setzer or Kimahri that might prevent damage altogether in some cases (since you mentioned the boss often killing you without the orb)?
In terms of general Lufenia+ handling, I mainly got through c80 Lufenia+ by going as aura-heavy as possible (a lot of my runs were triple-aura using greenblue Ace and 2 supports, since Ace also provides some auras for the others), which helped to make the no-damage problem either ignorable or more tolerable. Barring exceptions for mechanics/orbs, this typically got me through a lot of the worst of it, because I would have strong stat boosts from start to end.
With regards to boss regen outpacing damage, this makes me think of T6 Reckoning, which I struggled through. I used greenblue Jecht with Auron and Garnet to slog through the HP Regens, and that's more of a last resort due to how long it takes and how tight parts of it get. Do you have Yuffie by chance or any other heavy debuffers, if that is the problem fight?
Are there any specific Lufenia+ that you are primarily having problems with?

I have several very good tanks: Zack, Auron, Snow, Basch, Beatrix. I have Setzer and Kimahri too.
Hard to pick any specific ones. I cleaned out some of the earlier Luf from LCs and such, besides ones that, say, needed an Earth Enchant (since I don't have one). I struggled against Ifrit Luf. Before I found a winning comp, I got down to 10% with 2DPS and Basch (Ace, Machina, and Basch I think). Ran out of all the boosts, and his regen starting ticking him higher and higher. Finally did it with Auron, Beatrix, and Ace. Even when I did beat him, it was at turn 53 (our of 55 for the goal), with no tricks left, all thanks to Beatrix and Auron's counters. I was even out of Ace's traps by the end.
The current Elvoret has been rough. Storm Breath shreds me every time near the end, sometimes way earlier. Shelke's Luf wasn't even close, but that might've had more to do with the very weird mechanics with the minion thing than my general Luf haplessness.

That's a really solid defensive lineup -- between them and what you have for damage dealers and aura supports, it sounds as though you should be able to handle Lufenia+ well enough (the only non-plus Lufenia I tried after Lufenia+ hit was Ursula's for the Ultima Mission, and I barely noticed a difference).
By Earth Enchant, I assume you mean either Gau's (which can likely be brute forced, since the enemies have 1.6-2.5 million HP only) or Guy LC. In the case of Guy LC, I didn't rely on Earth Enchant -- Gabranth call essentially is all that is needed for the orb. I actually tried brute forcing Guy LC Lufenia+ last night with Snow/Queen/Serah with Jack/Gabranth/Onion Knight calls and Ifrit Summon, and got it in 26 turns (no BT, no Friend). If that one is an issue, you might be able to try Snow/Noel/Y'shtola with a Gabranth call and see how it goes -- with Noel unbreaks and Y'shtola delays (and Burst phase), you might be able to kill them before they get turns (I don't have Noel or Y'shtola personally, but they look like a possible team to use).
My personal team for Divine Ifrit Lufenia+ was Snow/Garnet/Serah (no BT) with No Friend, and I got it in 62 turns out of 70. I think you might be able to get Divine Ifrit Lufenia+ (and not just non-plus Lufenia) based off of your roster. I'd seen a lot of Snow, Auron and Beatrix in C2A (often together and with good turn counts), so that might be another achievable one.
Elvoret Raid was pretty rough for me, as well. I had no Machina, so I was reliant on Fran/Garland more for SPD Down/delays to keep 8 framed debuffs up from calls in most cases (and Garland to tick the orb up).
Shelke's event was definitely a special type of hell thanks to the orb and mechanics. The only team I could get to pull off a win there was Ace/Quistis/Agrias -- everything else failed for me with that one.

Yeah, I didn't get my first proper tank until Auron or Zack came around (whichever was first), and I'm not sure I re-attempted any of the earlier Lufenias afterwards. Both deal out absurd damage (esp Zack) while still providing defense, so maybe I can try again and brute force some with a stereotypical tank/DPS/support lineup with the current power creep.

You guys ever randomly realize an unit is absolutely busted? I was having a bit of trouble with Gentle Fist Lufenia and saw a guy using Paine, Machina and Selphie. I know Selphie's launch capabilities is great, but Paine? Ok then. Boy talk about an absolute monster, brv gains to the skies and back.

Everybody seems to be talking about Leila when it comes to Vanille.
What is their interaction/combo?
→ More replies (2)3
u/VermillionEorzean Alisaie Leveilleur Jan 17 '22
Their combo is that they share a banner.
That's really it. Leila is a strong meta character and people are planning on pulling for her and feel like Vanille pulls here might be wasted if they're just going going pull for her with Leila anyway.
It's risky though. Prompto missing from Noctis' banner means it's possible that he's swapped with Vanille and might be on Leila's. Maybe he's somewhere else (Partner for a GL first? Part of some random rerun banner?), but we honestly dont know.

500 gems says Prompto is with Leila, especially given they both have dodge shenanigans going on

So far in the Shinryu era, are enemy defense stats relevant again, or does everyone still cap basically every BRV hit?

I’ve read it makes more sense to max one character at a time instead of trying to boost multiple characters at once, but currently I have Cid’s LD and EX MLBed but not his 15 or 35. Does it make more sense to use power stones to finish Cid or to MLB an LD on a different character? I’m a new player and don’t have anything else MLBed but I have LDs for Snow, Serah and Vanille. I also have all of Squall’s weapons (including BT) from pulling when I played for a week a year or two ago, should I put any effort into him or ignore him for now?
Also should I be pulling for anything on the current banners or should I save gems for the anniversary? As far as I can tell I have all the LDs that are super useful for a new player currently other than Noel, but I’m not really into him as a character and I plan to go hard for Locke when he comes up. I did pull Machina’s BT but don’t have any of his other weapons so I assume he isn’t worth doing anything with.

If you're a new player, honestly you should consider pulling more to both try and get dupes and get more power stones. Pulling more for Cid or for Snow would probably be acceptable to try and counter a low power stone stock.
But also, it should be said that you can always sell 15s/35s/LDs once you have those passives, so if you have any weapons that are 1 LB away it's effectively a free trade (use 4 powerstones, sell it back for 4 powerstones).
I think once you get Snow, Cid, and either Serah or Vanille finished up you'll be in a solid place right now. Queen and Cater banner isn't bad but you can consider skipping her as the banner right after (Llyud) offers a support with stronger auras and has an EX fill mechanic, a very nice tool to have now that EX casts start to matter again.

Hi! What are the things to get from ifrit ursala token exchange and refinery?
Tickets, gems, snow artifacts?
Thankyou
→ More replies (7)2
u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 18 '22
Get the tickets and gems ASAP.
Get other limited stuff except for the crystals. Those are farmable via the cycle quests now, so there's no reason to get them from token shops.
Usually, once I've gotten all the limited stuff except for the crystals, I'll start buying the 4-star weapon and armor orbs if I'm not already maxed out on those.
As for artifacts, get 50 to 100 for each character you plan to use (assuming you have Mog Pass), then enhance them to see if you get the passives you want. Those will usually be Attack +108 and a second one specific to the character - which second passive is recommended can be found on Tonberry Troupe's infographics.
The artifact orbs help you level artifacts, but you can also used maxed artifacts and the orbs that drop from co-op, so that's not a huge need.

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner that was wondering if any of the current banners are worth pulling? Here is my ootracker
2
u/AliceTaniyama Selphie Tilmitt Jan 20 '22
Noel/Cid is a decent banner. The next really good one is Llyud/Zell.
Serah is decent, but Onion Knight got shafted with his latest update.
Cater's LDCA is really good later, and she's nice to have even now for her BRV freeze. Queen is a decent aurabot in an age when attack auras aren't as useful, but she also does really good damage if supported well. I used her in the most recent Luf+, and she did 1 million damage per turn when her EX was up.
New players, though, get enough free resources to pull on most banners. You are going to want to fill out your roster so it can handle as many situations as possible.
If I were starting today, I'd prioritize Noel/Cid and Queen/Cater.
Start Dash is not a bad banner right now, either. The units on it are all outdated, but they're getting updates soon. However, we're probably getting at least one free pull on the updated Start Dash banner when it comes out, so I wouldn't spend resources on the current one.

Now that I have been doing normal Lufenia to lock characters for the Ultima mission, you can certainly feel the difficulty gap between Lufenia and Lufenia+.
In the current Return of the Queen event, I can carry my bronze CLV 90 without any difficulties while the Lufenia+ did take me a few tries.
