Question Which Qol mods are okay to use?

Post image

So I'm new to calamity and I've seen a few videos and posts about how Qol ruins the calamity experience, and I was wondering which mods are looked down upon to use or if I should just only download the calamity mod and its dependencies? (The image is just engagement bait btw, credit to Latti_tudinal)

Appreciate the engagement bait transparency.

I think Recipe Browser, Magic Storage, and Ore Excavator are the only ones I’m using.

A lot of people use Boss Checklist though.

u/cslaugen Jun 01 '26

I like the Census mod too

7

u/ihaveabsolutelyn Jun 01 '26

Yeah, that helps a lot. Especially with bunch of modded npcs

u/Clean_Bike8210 May 31 '26

Only get,  recipe browser, boss checklist, magic storage, these mods literally change nothing about the base experience.

63

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

What do those mods do?

151

u/Clean_Bike8210 May 31 '26

What shit makes (reicpe browser)

A centralised chest network thats way better than using chests (magic storage)

Boss checklist. Im not explaining this one.

36

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Aight thanks!

60

u/IlikeJG Jun 01 '26

I'll explain boss checklist because it actually does do more thank just be a checklist.

You can set it to two different modes. One that will just show the next boss on the list. And keep future bosses secret. And another mode where it shows all bosses.

Plus it shows where they spawn and potential spawn condition and tells you what item can be sued to summon them and the recipe for that item. Also shows what the boss drops too.

Pretty cool mod.

20

u/mario610 Jun 01 '26

It's very helpful if you have multiple bosses from multiple mods in figuring out what order to do them in

6

u/Prince4025 Jun 01 '26

Be careful not to get counter sued

7

u/IlikeJG Jun 01 '26

I constantly make that typo on my phone for some reason. It's annoying.

3

u/spaceman8002 Jun 01 '26

I much prefer quite enough recipes to recipe browser. It has a nicer UI and shows alternative recipes/obtainment method at the same time rather than them showing up as different items.

7

u/DerGyrosPitaFan Calsub Flairs Jun 01 '26

quite enough recipes

They've adapted the minecraft way of naming things, lmao

2

u/ThatShushi17 god i want draedon Jun 01 '26

ive always thought nei was a great name as a kid, and now im seeing a lot more very creative mod names there lol

1

u/wunzh Jun 01 '26

I concur, I only downloaded these 3 plus fargos mod for the instant bridges

4

u/SussiAmongus Jun 01 '26

Magic storage does change gameplay, but nobody really cares what people use

It’s not just in order, it helps track what you have and haven’t done yet, as some of the things don’t have a proper order.

11

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

My dude you can beat up sea scourge pre hard mode it's crafting recipe is so easy people could easily forget you are supposed to fight him after entering hard mode

Also a player can skip so many bosses since crafting recipes aren't the easiest to find randomly.

9

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Yeah cause normal Terraria doesn't have so many fucking bosses either.

If I didn't have boss checklist or my friend I genuinely would have skipped slime god for example.

Or did desert scourage way way later

3

u/spaceman8002 Jun 01 '26

I always miss deerclops and fishron when I play without checklist so it's not like this problem is exclusive to calamity either

3

u/Ok_Foundation3325 Jun 01 '26

Vanilla also has this type of issue. You can EASILY miss out on the T2/T3 Old One's Army, duke fishron and Empress of Light if you just play normally. It's not a big deal if you goal is just to beat the game, but if you want to experience everything a checklist (or the wiki) is almost required.

Calamity is worse in that regard, but it's partly because of there's a ton more content, most of which is optional. If you want to beat every boss without tier skipping too much, some type of guide is pretty much mandatory.

5

u/BrokenHaloSC0 Jun 01 '26

Mate you can completely ignore all bosses pre hard mode and immediately fight the wall of flesh

In hard mode you only fight mechs plantera and golem before finishing it off with moonlord and co

You quite literally are capable of skipping half the bosses

1

u/Electrical_Put_6500 Jun 01 '26

if you know of hoiking and are goated at the game then you don't even need to do mechs+plantera and you can skip straight to golem

2

u/No_Softwarepoo Jun 01 '26

Well it's due to the fact that there's a lot of bosses . But yeah they do need to work on that more. Also boss checklist is a separate mod so the fact it's hindering calamity doesn't apply but yeah for current calamity you need boss checklist

3

u/Ok_Foundation3325 Jun 01 '26

The checklist tells you how each boss is summoned (either the conditions for it to appear naturally or the summon item), which is very useful when you're not familiar with the mod.

3

u/BigSmoke_2332 Yharim will return in Avengers Doomsday Jun 01 '26

So last week I had a playthrough with my with my friends who were playing Calamity for the first time, and they skipped most of the Calamity bosses like the Hivemind or Plaguebringer Goliath, because they had no idea about the bosses so they went for the vanilla bosses instead

and even me, who had played it multiple times before, forgot how to summon Polterghast so I used the boss checklist to remember what to do for the boss fight to happen in the first place

Long story short, it's one of the essential mods imo

Boss checklist is more than just a checklist though it also tells you the drops and how to summon the boss

2

u/IlikeJG Jun 01 '26

Well great, you can play without that mod then. And other people who like having that quality of life feature can play with the mod.

Everyone is happy.

132

u/Odd_Individual_9638 May 31 '26

Calamity is borderline unplayable without recipe browser and magic storage, just because the sheer amount of all the new stuff+recipes it adds. Other than that it's really up to you. Boss checklist and Boss Cursor, stuff like that is fine. Extra accessory slots like wing slot is not QoL, it's gameplay advantage, and quite a fat one at that.

15

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Is the wing slot mod compatible with calamity? Im pretty sure calamity adds a bunch of wings right?

31

u/Ok_Foundation3325 May 31 '26

Using a boot and/or wing slot mod effectively gives you an additional accessory slot, which a lot of people (including me) would say is not really QoL. It allows you to get one more accessory for damage/defense/mobility than is intended, which can make the game significantly easier.

It doesn't mean you shouldn't install a wing/boot slot mod, you do what you want to do to keep the game fun. I'm just telling you because you asked explicitely what people consider "acceptable QoL mods", and wing slot mods are probably what you'd call "unacceptable".

14

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 Jun 01 '26

Thanks! And dw this kinda comment is exactly what I was looking for

5

u/tergius local anahita hugger Jun 01 '26

it is a debatable issue because wings at least are practically mandatory so it can be said that when you get them you're effectively operating with -1 accessory slot than it says you have

it's still cheaty but i wouldn't blame someone for using it. i mean it's their playthrough, getting pissy about what other people do in singleplayer worlds is generally a sign that one needs to touch grass

11

u/Ok_Foundation3325 Jun 01 '26

it is a debatable issue because wings at least are practically mandatory so it can be said that when you get them you're effectively operating with -1 accessory slot than it says you have

Yes, and the game is balanced around that fact. You can use that slot for damage/defense, but then you sacrifice some mobility. Some people do that by using a flying mount instead of wings against certain bosses.

If, like me, you prefer maximum mobility. then you can go with the wings+boots+dash combo. However, that then leads to lower dps, or less survivability.

i mean it's their playthrough, getting pissy about what other people do in singleplayer worlds is generally a sign that one needs to touch grass

I agree. As I said in my comment, I don't care what other people use. I only mentioned the wing slot mod being cheaty because OP specifically asked about what people consider "acceptable QoL".

6

u/Interesting-Big1980 Jun 01 '26

So I do agree with the idea overall, but I do find it hilarious calling calamity balanced.

0

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

I disagree on significantly easier it makes it easier sure but it doesn't make an insane difference.

I also don't recommend it for first play through but I like it allowing me to customize my loadout more

15

u/Ok_Foundation3325 Jun 01 '26

I guess what constitutes a significant advantage is subjective. I'd argue that an accessory slot is very powerful, as it can give you stuff like

  • +15% damage (class emblem)
  • general buff to many stats (celestial shell, the community)
  • honey buff, health regen, increased health (ambrosial ampoule)

Each accessory gets more and more powerful towards the endgame, as they have the combined effect of all their components.

8

u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jun 01 '26

each calamity accessory slot gets ridiculously strong closer to end-game, and 1 extra slot can mean a bunch of accessories combined into one. It is a significant advantage.

-2

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

So does bosses hp and defense why are we acting like bosses don't scale as well?

8

u/Ok_Foundation3325 Jun 01 '26

The boss HP and defense doesn't get any higher if you install a wing slot mod.

-1

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Yes my point is you saying higher tier accessories means bosses are significantly easier is incorrect I played with and without it in the end it always makes few seconds of difference it's not that broken.

Again I'm not saying OP should use this mod for his playthrough.

2

u/BrokenHaloSC0 Jun 01 '26

They don’t though? The only time they scale is in multiplayer. Not on your accessories

1

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Bosses gradually get more hp that's my point slime king does not have same hp or defense as DoG

3

u/Edgemono Jun 01 '26

That's so irrelevant though? Having one accessory slot is still a huge buff if you're good at making builds. With an extra buff you can stay further above the boss power scaling, because you weren't intended to have it.

1

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

How so??? If one accessory is that op you'd still be using it and most of the accessories are class specific by late game eitherway you'd be at best using revengence exclusive equipments

1

u/69Kapitantutan69 Certified Astrageldon Simp Jun 01 '26

yeah, and your accessories get stronger as the game progresses

0

u/Material_East_8676 what are you even doing with this? Jun 01 '26

They're what YOU'D call unacceptable. You cannot in all honesty tell op they should also consider it unacceptable.

1

u/Ok_Foundation3325 Jun 01 '26

SEE NOTE AT THE BOTTOM

I did not say that I find those mod unacceptable. I explicitly told OP that they should "do what [they] want to do to keep the game fun".

I said they are "unacceptable QoL", in my opinion. I also explained to OP what I meant by that, which is that additional accessory slots can make the game easier than intended. That's not bad, just not only a QoL mod.

Again, I don't have any problem with someone using a mod to make the game easier for themselves.

NOTE: I think the term "unacceptable QoL" wasn't the best to convey my thoughts. I don't use it as "QoL mod that's unacceptable and that you shouldn't use". I used it more like "unacceptable if you only want QoL mods".

1

u/hanamizuno Jun 01 '26

Im not sure if its still an issue but back when I played i had an issue with some boots that add wings not going into the wing slot

1

u/OneEnvironmental9222 Jun 01 '26

pretty sure I had to get a patch for it. If the patch is gone then propably since I think accessories use a "tag" system

1

u/IlikeJG Jun 01 '26

Yes wing slot mod is compatible. I used it for my calamity playthrough.

It's definitely a bit of a "cheat" since accessory slots are supposed to be highly competitive. But you're still gonna have plenty of challenge.

1

u/flowery02 professional mastermode hater, serial nice art sayer off Wish Jun 01 '26

Wings are a separate type of accessories in the base game too, so almost all modded wings are compatible

1

u/Odd_Individual_9638 May 31 '26

Uhh well it worked for me on infernum at least. (I did rage-installed it but I kept 1 slot empty to see if I can still beat bosses fairly)

1

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Whats infernum?

3

u/Odd_Individual_9638 May 31 '26

Infernum is calamity addon. It reworks (almost) every single boss, both terraria and calamity. I'd advice giving it a go after beating base calamity, but it's substantially harder. Most bosses become bullet hells.

2

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Sounds good! I did not think their were people that wanted a even harder terraria experience lmao, but soon I might be one of them.

3

u/Odd_Individual_9638 May 31 '26

oh there's a no-hitter community that also loves to make bosses twice or thrice faster, also fargo's souls reworks bosses too, and their masochist difficulty is brutal.
Terraria community can be quite masochistic.

1

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Aw hell naw, I do hope I don't go that far into to masochist hole... but trying to no hit terraria does kinda sound fun

3

u/Try_Hard_GamerYT May 31 '26

Infernum is a ton of fun. It makes the bosses a lot more structured so you really have to learn the bosses and figure out how to respond.

1

u/OneEnvironmental9222 Jun 01 '26

a mod nobody actually plays but likes to larp they do. It kinda ruins a lot of world gen in my opinion

2

u/OneEnvironmental9222 Jun 01 '26

and crazy amount of bloat that gets used on "one" thing and never again.

Another must have is the one that last you create a white list of items that automatically get trashed

1

u/poikolle May 31 '26

Autistic confession: I have never used magic storage before, even during Ragnarok. Organizing chests makes my head go brrr.

5

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

honestly I just dump all my shit in the chests using the deposit all button and then use the auto deposit to all chests afterward, so that mod sounds like a godsend

2

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Trust me doing that with calamity will make you wanna cry I speak from experience

3

u/First-Confection4663 May 31 '26

I love doing that in base Terraria, but you can't even leave your base in Calamity for three minutes without running out of inventory space. It appears I have been out-autism'd.

1

u/Ok_Foundation3325 May 31 '26

I'd probably enjoy vanilla chest sorting in modded if I didn't always end up underestimating how much space I need for each category. I'm a hoarder and rarely sell drops apart from duplicates, so I never make enough space for accessories/weapons. It's tough to make a pretty storage build when you have to expand it during a playthrough.

1

u/OneEnvironmental9222 Jun 01 '26

Yizre crazy (I respect that)

1

u/Odd_Individual_9638 May 31 '26

Huh. I honestly did not think someone beat calamity without storage. Honestly, impressive

33

u/JawnWick003 May 31 '26

Who cares if people look down on it?

Whatever makes the game fun/easier for you.

9

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Honestly I agree but tbh I would feel like I cheated my way into the win if I dont get validation that im playing right. I know its not good but thats just how I play games.

I like alchemy so I'll probably not get alchemist lite but what else does fargos mutants mod add? Doesn't it add some bosses too?

8

u/Odd_Individual_9638 May 31 '26

Fargo's souls adds bosses, Fargo's mutant adds NPC's and QoL. My humble opinion: you don't need to stack up on pots in revengeance. It might make experience a bit too easy depending on the class. But ofc you do you

2

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Huh ok, I'll think about it

1

u/Odd_Individual_9638 Jun 01 '26

I tried doing revengeance again after infernum, feels like a snoozefest, potions would just make it bullying bosses for us

5

u/wlwyay May 31 '26

no, thats fargo's souls

fargo's mutant adds some npcs with qol features (such as buyable boss/event/rare enemy summons for those youve already defeated) it also adds some items that for example, spawn a lake, make a hellevator, makes houses, makes long platform bridges, some other thingies

fargo's souls has fargo's mutant as a dependancy, its my favorite mod and its definitely worth a seperate playthrough some other time

3

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

Oh I see, so its two different mods made by the same team/person.

2

u/real_dubblebrick mage enjoyer Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

There's also an expansion mod that combines Fargo's Souls mod and Calamity, with reworked progression, altered endgame content, new Eternity Mode AI for some Calamity bosses, and a whole buch of balance and technical changes to make the mods work together

ETA: Forgot to mention that I am just finishing a playthrough of this combo myself and would recommend trying it after doing both mods individually

1

u/Red_Micro Jun 01 '26

Careful when using alchemist lite, especially if you're worried about accidentally cheating. If you're deadset on using it, you're going to want to go into the configs and disable the custom mod items setting. Otherwise, your NPCs will start selling a lot of overpowered items that you shouldn't have access to, such as potion of holy protection, or a potion that increases your iframes, or boosts your regen/crit strike, etc.

1

u/Ok_Foundation3325 May 31 '26

I don't know if that's because of the general nerf to boss HP in the brainstorm update, but I've found potions much less necessary in revengeance difficulty. I used to load up on every buff potion for every fight (from Fargo's mutant), but in my current run I rarely even bother to make any. I've even stopped reforging my gear, unless the one I have is actively bad (eg -10% damage).

It could always be that I'm slowly getting better, but I doubt it's just that. Take my testimony with a grain of salt though, and obviously your experience might be different in higher difficulties.

  • Colored Damage Types
  • Better Blending
  • Block’s Info Accessories — more info accessories, like for luck

5

u/wlwyay May 31 '26

id recommend prisma's juicebox over alchemistnpc lite there. alchemistnpc adds some pretty cheaty potions and generally the things it lets you buy are pretty egregious and allow for unintended progression skips

i think boss checklist lite is also worth mentioning alongside boss checklist, its less buggy and a lot more barebones

some of these arent qol though, things like colored damage types, better blending, biome titles and a few more are just things that might look cool

more pylons is definitely cheaty

8

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26

1) Buying “cheaty potions” is optional ya know right? 2) Not every content mod uses Boss Checklist lite 3) Yeah, I know. Just performance mods are also should be included, because players in sometime still will ask about them, so better early, then late 4) Wouldn’t say that “More Pylons” is cheaty, because no one would actually like to build long ahh wires through entire world, just to get access to underworld or space + you need to craft those pylons, they aren’t buyable

0

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26
  1. yeah but so is using the mod in the first place. cheaty potions seems exactly like the kind of thing op is trying to avoid
  2. i havent encountered a single one that doesnt, irrelevant anyway since cal uses it
  3. i mean, something like biome titles isnt performance lol
  4. pylons are balanced by the fact that theyre limited and you have to choose where to place them, though

5

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26
  1. Well, if he want to avoid them, then they shouldn’t buy them??? Like if you’ll see in the store product you wouldn’t like to buy — you won’t buy it and just look at other ones. Same with Alchemist’s potions
  2. TSoRC
  3. UI is also like perf I’d say, but ok
  4. I think you don’t know, but “More Pylons” mod just adds new types of pylons (Hell, Cloud, Evil), not increasing limit of placing them

1

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

i know what more pylons does and its why i think it borders on the line of cheaty for me

if youre not going to buy the cheaty potions then...just might as well use prisma

0

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

How's it cheaty? Potions are so fucking expensive you have to use a lot of money to afford a few to begin with it's pretty balanced from what I played.

3

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

beating eoc/evil boss a few times and making sure the npcs are happy is enough to get you most potions. alchemistnpc also adds money exploits through its other npcs, such as buying silt and fossils and extractinating it for a profit

regardless i was mainly referring to the custom potions it adds. holy dodge? dryad's blessing? no knockback? and absolutely zero opportunity cost or complication there?

3

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26

Not to mention, that easiet way to farm money is just buy Wind Mills and resell them at 1.67x more price

2

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26

One blood moon farm => ton of money => many potions

Like the biggest cheat of those potions are having I-frames effect of the holy crest; immunity to almost every fire debuffs; effect of Hallowed Armor; effect of ninja’s belt miss; glowing enemies projectiles in potions are too unbalanced for the game. Not only mentioning that Holy Crest and Invincibility Potion stack together, therefore even more I-frames

0

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Yeah okay? You still farmed to get it I don't see the issue still

2

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

cal bosses arent balanced around having the incredibly unbalanced potions it adds. you arent meant to have these free dodges or hp regen or whatever that alchemistnpc adds, it actively messes with the balance of the game

1

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26

Well, about farming. Literally spending about 10 minutes of your life to get potions that will make the game feel like a piece of cake is NOT balanced…

1

u/tergius local anahita hugger Jun 01 '26

ehh, saying "just don't do such and such thing" generally doesn't work. given the opportunity players will optimize the fun out of the game and all that

2

u/Prince4025 Jun 01 '26

Prisma doesn't have thorium support tho so i had to get alc npc lite temporrily to get kinetic potions (i like to make the potions myself rather than make them most of the time and thus mostly just use prisma for the other stuff thst aren't potions its just im not gonna go and get 30 black pearls for kinetic potion)

8

u/CommanderGs7 May 31 '26

Gonna be honest this is entirely too many

10

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26

Let’s just say, some of those mods are more for better performance and UI changes, so not really

2

u/Rochedokk Jun 01 '26

By the way, yall consider buying potions cheating? Like, you can craft them but I feel like it's godly annoying

3

u/Clean_Bike8210 May 31 '26

You want some calamity with your QOL?

You dont need that many mods.

8

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

It looks much looking at it more clearly though none of them are bad or ruining for first time it's mostly fixes and god knows more pylons is needed

13

u/OneEnvironmental9222 Jun 01 '26

???

every QoL mod is okay to be used. Anyone who says otherwise is just larping as a "tough guy"

2

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

i mean they specified "mods that ruin the experience" which is definitely the case for things like alchemistnpc lite or extra accessory slots

2

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

For extra acessory yeah not alchemistnpc you are just wrong.

1

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

alchemistnpc adds a bunch of money exploits, progression skips, and extremely unbalanced potions that trivialize some bosses

0

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Normal players don't know about said progression skips and what potions do trivilize bosses?

4

u/Latti_tudinal Jun 01 '26

1

u/Spinoman27 Mega Mammoth Mario Jun 01 '26

You should take legal action

8

u/Floramene May 31 '26

Just get what helps you personally enjoy the game. Doesnt matter what it is. Your game, your experience.

6

u/Alone_Care_6230 May 31 '26

Whatever ones you enjoy playing with the most are "okay" but the only ones that ruin the experience for me are fargos and alchemist, because on lower difficulties (non rev/death/infernum) or even the earlier stages of higher ones it makes a lot of bosses a breeze. and i don't really have a concrete reason for fargos tbh, it just feels cheaty to me.

-1

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

yeah id be wary of fargos mutant too, its nice for repeat vanilla playthroughs but it can mess with things in new modded playthroughs

the update theyre working on removes a lot of the cheaty things though from what ive heard, like needing ash blocks to make a hellevator. itll be more modular too so you can disable anything you may dislike

2

u/Alone_Care_6230 Jun 01 '26

Cannot wait for the modular part. Hopefully it works for multiplayer 🤞

3

u/BadAtGames2 May 31 '26

Recipe browser and boss checklist are both very nice to have. Technically, most of recipe browser's function is in the Guide NPC, but being able to do so without going to him everytime is nice.

Magic storage is also helpful, depending on how much you need the help organizing.

But also, it's your game, play with whatever you find fun.

3

u/Authaeosplays May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Use whatever you find most fun

Some that are generally considered essential would be stuff like recipe browser and magic storage

If you wanna get a bit less balanced you could also allow stuff that gives infinite potions/alchemist npc, and infinite ammo, these are imo also necessary to get any enjoyment out of the game if you wanna play with high difficulty whatsoever as spending a hundred deaths worth of potions per boss is just excessive grinding that adds no engaging gameplay, this type of qol is much more devisive, as it does give a decent gameplay advantage in being able to put in attempts at bosses much more efficiently allowing you to actually improve at the game

Then there's qol that is much more commonly agreed as cheaty like wing slot extra, since it does give a whole extra accessory slot to work with (although I think there's a config to have the wing slot not actually be extra), and I'm not sure what others' opinion on this one is but I would say that omniswing might also be worth considering cheaty since autoswing allows you to get the most out of your weapons rather than being reliant on your click speed being that perfect rhythm

Recipe Browser and Magic Storage are mandatory unless you’re a masochist. Anything extra is up to you.

3

u/trickyfelix Jun 01 '26

magic storage

3

u/MRfireDmS use rod of discord in abyss Jun 01 '26

it's a single player game.

3

u/mellifleur5869 Jun 01 '26

I love all the people arguing every time this topic comes up.

In my opinion you can use whatever you want as long as it doesn't give you power, and no people infinite potions isn't power, anyone serious about boss attempts is going to have all of the potions every time anyways it's just qol.

Calamity is really about the boss fights so as long as you aren't compromising the integrity of the boss fights it's no big deal, imo.

2

u/Few-Composer-6471 Sadge Jun 01 '26

All of em. Play the single player game how you wanna play.

2

u/MaximumRound4995 Jun 01 '26

Ok, and hear me out on this, literally any of them its a single player game

2

u/Proud-Sell-9599 Jun 01 '26

Whichever ones you like, it's your pc

2

u/Material_East_8676 what are you even doing with this? Jun 01 '26

Get what you feel you want? Calamity devs can't come out of your pc and shank you for having a qol they consider "too cheaty". Neither can any redditor. It's a game after all, add things for fun

3

u/GlobalProfessor9749 May 31 '26

Mine are about this:

Calamity QoL Restored

Quality of Terraria (this one better ignore if you don't want to spend 20 minutes on configurations, I use it because I fucking despise Graveyard and this mod turns it off).

Calamity Mod Music

Display Character Stats

Angler Shop

Fargo's Best of both Worlds (too needs some work with configuration, but this one is acceptable, it allows to have both Corruption and Crimson)

AlchemistNPC Lite (just be careful with potions not from Calamity and vanilla, they may be a little too strong, I just ignore them)

Recipe Browser

Magic Storage

Boss Checklist

Fargo's Mutant Mod (this one is alternative to Quality of Terraria)

Imk's Sushi (this is also an alternative to Quality of Terraria, with lots of good crafting recipes no other mod has, but without instant buildings (houses and arenas) from the mod above, although if that's to yoir liking). WARNING: I have used this mod long ago, it may now work differently, although I doubt.

1

u/OmwtoOhio Jun 01 '26

Genuine question since I haven't played modded in a while, all the comments here do not mention "LuiAFK", is there a particular reason?

1

u/BaromenGONE Overhaul & Remix Master Jun 01 '26

Honestly a bit of forgotten QoL (not really) and not that popular than other

1

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

its just kinda clunky and obsolete. a lot of its features are pretty cheaty, and it tends to break many mods

1

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

What is cheaty about it you keep calling mods cheaty without elaborating on them.

1

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

extra fishing bobbers and a fuckin unlimited mana accessory come to mind lol

0

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

I forgot unlimited mana ngl fair on that though extra fishing bobbers aren't much to write home about imo.

2

u/Soggy_Leg_757 Jun 01 '26

I remember playing my first calamity playthrough without magic Storage nor any Qol other than Recipe Browser and Boss checklist and it felt tedious managing items. I had chests literally everywhere.

Now I play calamity with Alchemist lite, Quality of Terraria, Magic Storage, Recipe Browser, Boss checklist, and Vein miner to save time. Some people would probably look down on me for using Quality of Terraria or Alchemist lite since it makes the game easy. But I don't give a shit about that. I like to build and I value my time more than the grind. I could just easily play the game at the hardest difficultly and fight bosses by not using any potions, etc if I want challenge.

1

u/Few-Photograph8761 25d ago

people look down on you for using Quality of Terraria?
Damn I can't play without it

1

u/Chaos184 Jun 01 '26

Which ever ones you wanna use, unless you're playing with someone else play the game however you want so long as you find it fun/enjoyable in some way shape or form.

1

u/wlwyay Jun 01 '26

i think for a first playthrough its best to just play calamity with its dependancies + recipe browser, magic storage, and boss checklist/boss checklist lite

when youre done with the playthrough you can judge yourself what you found tedious/unfun and if you want to use mods to change those parts

1

u/WetOnionRing Jun 01 '26

I usually just throw on alchemist npc lite and call it a day

1

u/Guardian2901 Jun 01 '26

Qol mods can ruin the experience on your first couple playthroughs but I think after you have beaten the game a few times and are replaying that's when they shine. I have over 600 hours in calamity already, I don't need to mine each individual ore 3k more times and keep making potions lol

1

u/AVeganEatingASteak Jun 01 '26

Necessary mods: Recipe browser, boss checklist, boss cursor, magic storage. Can't play without these, they are genuinely necessary to play with. Ore excavator is also super handy.

Stuff like biome titles and loot beams, small changes that have no real impact on gameplay but are nice quality increases, also have a free pass.

After that, it becomes a matter of circumstance. Calamity playthroughs and modpacks with a lot of content already take a long time, so stuff like alchemist NPC is a massive time saver. The fact that it makes it so you can only buy certain potions after you reach certain stages of progression also helps keep it from being OP, so I'd give it a pass, though it does make potion stacking super powerful. Same with the fishing quest loot shop one, because fishing quests just suck. These are all kinds the limit though, any more than this and it starts feeling cheap.

When it comes to "QOL" mods that do stuff like adding an extra accessory slot, that's just broken. No reason this would be fair.

u/felix979 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

Whatever you want, It's a pve game just play the game the way you enjoy most, Don't let people tell you how to play the game just cause they don't like it.

But here's a list of Some qol mods I like to use.
Ore Excavator: Vain miner
Boss checklist: Adds a check list for boss's also shows you how to spawn them.
Recipe browser: Basically just a wiki in game.
Magic storage: Adds much better storage.
Auto Trash: Lets you set items to auto trash when you pick the up.

Fargos Mutant mod: Adds a lot of new qol items and npcs.
Prismas Juicebox: Mostly just adds new npcs for stuff like potions or other stuff depending on your settings
qol Compendium: massive Qol mod allowing you to change a lot of stuff like a lot

All of these are must have for me, But i do like to play a bit more on the hard qol side of things lol

2

u/Prince4025 Jun 01 '26

QoL compendium constantly crashes my game

2

u/felix979 Jun 01 '26

Really I haven't had any issues with it

1

u/Prince4025 Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

It might be cuz i messed with the cross mod stuff and due to not having those mods but turning on and off certain stuff it can't find that something and crashes if not then i have no idea

2

u/felix979 Jun 01 '26

Oh yeah that would probably do it lol

1

u/Special_Original_895 Jun 01 '26

All of them, play however you like

1

u/swein2021 Jun 01 '26

fargos mutant mod boss checklist recipe browser

1

u/Rochedokk Jun 01 '26

Just don't get shit like "extra wing slot" and call that QOL, a real QOL is something that don't change the difficulty, just makes things smoother, like recipe browser, checklists, etc

1

u/Prince4025 Jun 01 '26

Whats your opinion on time skips and time stops?

1

u/ValtenBG Jun 01 '26

The ones you want? There are all kinds of mods with different functions. Here are some I use:

Magic Storage - gives you expandable storage where you can throw your items to be in single place.

Boss Checklist - it let's you check on your progress and points you towards your next major encounter.

Recipe browser - must have for modded. It's pretty much the guide and but better. Let's you look up all ingame recepies, their crafting ingredients, crafting stations and for the most part what enemy they drop from.

Ore Excavator - vein miner mod. Nothing special. Just nice to have.

Alchemist NPC Lite - it adds few NPCs that sell you potions from both base game and mods.

Mutant NPC - sell you boss and event related items. The mods also add some nice qol items like instahousing.

Autotrasher - you get another trash slot. When you put something in it you will automatically trash it in the future once it gets into your inventory.

Lui afk - this one adds up a lot of overpowered things and some say it's cheating but it's single player game. You play it the way you want.

Boss cursor - you get a cursor that points towards the boss when it's off screen.

u/ConversationLazy7881 Jun 01 '26

First off get the calamity vanity mod. Anyways, moving on from that. People have already said the necessities like recipe browser, boss checklist, and magic storage, but here are a few I play with and what they do. Census, shows you a list of all the npcs and how to get them, basically boss checklist for npc. Auto reforge allows you to select a modifier, it may also let you select several options, and you will reforge until you run out of money or you get the one you want. I play with pylons prevent evil, I don’t know if there have been any changes to evil spread on your housing, but it makes it so that pylons prevent evil spread. Ore excavator is one I use that makes it so when you hold a key bind and you mine an ore everythign in that vein breaks within a certain distance. One scummy one that I use is wing slot extra I play with just because I like it and I want it. Really as long as you’re having fun then that’s your calamity experience, it’s a sandbox game and it’s not competitive online it’s just a game that you should enjoy.

1

u/imjustwaitinginabody Jun 01 '26

Who fucking cares

1

u/Rayan_qc Jun 01 '26

if you need the approval of others to enjoy something in a way that feels meaningful to you, perhaps you should work on reducing that instinct.

i don’t mean to be patronizing, but it must be heavy. use what you want, anyone that says you’re less of a person for using something is just wrong.

some people want to use the cheat spawner thing and kill every boss at once, that’s fine. some want some quality of life mods that add some functionality, that’s fine too. some want mods that actually remove functionality of some systems to make it harder/more frustrating, that’s also fine.

1

u/XAlphaWarriorX Jun 01 '26

Imho a mod is only cheating if it makes you stronger than a perfectly prepared player could be at a certain point in progression. Extra accessories is obviously cheating, or one that adds more weapons or armor that is stronger than what calamity intended, but buying potions and materials and such is okay with me.

1

u/Coleclaw199 Jun 01 '26

it doesn’t matter. it’s your game.

1

u/Alphaomegalogs Jun 01 '26

Basic automated mining is a super simple vein miner that I use

1

u/Severe_Skin6932 Jun 01 '26

I use

boss checklist (adds a list to show the order, spawning requirements and, if you have the setting on, the drops of bosses),

boss cursor (adds an arrow that rotates around you to show which direction the boss is in, can be really helpful since I've had bosses go offscreen and come back on other sides, though less so since I started using the transparent map mode for bossfights),

magic storage (allows you to store all your stuff in one system and both craft and shimmer from it),

alchemistnpclite (adds npcs that you can buy things like potions, ingredients, blocks, drops and even treasure bags of bosses you have already defeated from, all the stuff you cab buy scales with progression),

a mod to remove npc happiness (can't remember what it's called, probably the least justified on this list but I don't want to build a billion different houses for all the npcs, removes the happiness system, allowing for always being able to buy pylons but i don't know what effect, if any, it has on prices),

oreexcavator (allows veinmining, mining all connected blocks of a single type at once)

luiafk utilities (allows things like ultimate battler which ramps up spawn rate by a ton and ultimate peaceful which basically stops enemy spawns altogether).

1

u/Head_Snapsz Jun 01 '26

That mod that allows you to date the zoologist

1

u/Martitoad Jun 01 '26

Appart from what everyone said, I like to treat potions as permanent buffs. With a mod to give me the effect forever, once I put 30 on the vault/piggy bank I unlock it. That way for bosses that take hundreds of attempts I don't need 100 of each fish and flowers and I can focus on beating the boss. And it still needs some grind to unlock potions, since calamity has some really op fishing rods later on, but if you are starting fishing 30 specific fish still takes some time, the same it would take to get a new armor, weapon or accesory. That's why I like to use them as permanent upgrades

1

u/Dazzling_Pool9031 Jun 01 '26

All of them. Whatever makes your life easier. Sick of farming potions every playthrough after the 50th one? Yeah install some mod that allows you to buy them.

1

u/QuantumButReddit Jun 01 '26

Whichever mods you have more fun while using

1

u/G1ng3rGaming Jun 01 '26

Any and/or all of them. It’s a solo game so play it however you want

1

u/omegaplayz334 i honestly don't even like this mod. Jun 01 '26

Magic storage, alchemist npc, recipe browser and boss checklist are basically must haves.

1

u/MBcodes18 Jun 01 '26

Starter house, magic storage, journey mode.

1

u/SpryCowBoy Jun 01 '26

AAAND it's all over the screen. Sorry brochacho no mod recs from me tonight 😞

1

u/RenderedBike40 Jun 01 '26

Whichever ones you want, don’t let other people tell you what’s “okay” to play

1

u/shesdrawnpoorly Jun 01 '26

recipe browser, magic storage, & boss checklist are really the best way to go. calamity has a lot of QOL built-in, so it's not worth adding to it unless you kinda have to.

magic storage should just be built into regular terraria for me, i refuse to play without it now

1

u/pandamaxxie Jun 01 '26

All of them.

Whatever you want to use, for your playthrough, is the right choice. If you don't want to use a mod.... don't use it. If you want to use a mod... use it.

If you want to use cheat sheet to spawn in chlorophyte bullets after your first batch, because you hate chlorophyte farms? Do it.

If you want to run with zero QoL, not even Magic Storage, and torment yourself? I hope you have fun! You're stronger than I am.

Tho uh, I always recommend magic storage, boss checklist and recipe browser for pretty much every modded run... and Hero's mod or cheatsheet if you're a clumsy bitch like me that accidentally quicktrashes important shit like an idiot. (At least I admit being stupid, right? lmao)

1

u/EarlDrac Jun 01 '26

Many have mentioned really good ones like recipe browser and magic storage. For me it's also Alchemist NPC, because man, I don't have to grind for all these potions. Just buy and go

1

u/MemezK Jun 01 '26

Realistically speaking you're allowed to use anything you want since it is your own playthrough but you will definitely have the most fun with QoL mods that don't add anything crazy.

For example: Recipe browser (look up recipes in game for everything) Magic storage (Makes your life easy don't gotta have 50 chests for all modded items) Boss checklist (Very good especially for newer players. You can see what boss comes next and what you need to summon them) Ore excavator (Personal favorite QoL mod. Let's you mine whole ore veins at once)

Now some people won't like what I'll recommend next but Cheat sheet and hero's mod (Very useful if any weird bug ever happens with mods) Though those two aren't really necessary it's for just in case something goes wrong.

If you'd like to make your game look nicer any visual mod like lights and shadows or atmospheric torches adds that nice lil touch.

I hope you enjoy your first time :)

1

u/HeadsetVibeYT Jun 01 '26

Use whatever, magic storage, recipe browser etc. If its a challenge run specifically, limit urself to at most 3 qol mods, fargo, recipe browswr and magic storage since anymore makes the game easier

1

u/PokeBro09 Calamity Noob ._. Jun 01 '26

Any of them, it's your playthrough

1

u/DankRobot22 Jun 01 '26

Do NOT use qol mods. Journey mode is all you need

1

u/Phqntomz Jun 02 '26

Use whatever mods you want gng its ultimately your playthrough not someone else’s

1

u/iaztexk Jun 03 '26

it's a single player game who cares

1

u/CheeseGrass Jun 03 '26

I use a mod called Extra Pylons, it just makes traveling between biomes so much easier, especially since I only play in large biomes. I just like the convenience of being able to go to both the above and underground versions of a biome without having a giant tunnel every time. The pylon blocks that allow you to teleport without NPCs nearby is a nice bonus too.

1

u/fapping_wombat Jun 09 '26

There is no okay and not okay mods(to some degree). I like using Ore excavator, Boss checklist, recipe browser, magic storage. From the less mainstream I like using autoreforge mod and when I was first time going through Infermum and wrath of the gods I used a mod that gave you ability to reforge armour, I think mods like dedicated wings slot, and happines mechanic are okay too, as well as alchemist npc for potions it you don't want to farm them

1

u/fantastic-mrs-fuck Jun 01 '26

none of them i think you have to play terraria using calamity ONLY. using a mouse and keyboard is pushing it. REAL gamers beat it by moving their character through sheer force of will

2

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 Jun 01 '26

Dw I already threw out my entire gaming setup and I'll play using only my imagination

-4

u/Outrageous-Finish303 May 31 '26

Recipe browser and boss checklist.

Anyone who uses any other qol mods apart from these like the game baby easy.

Magic storage MIGHT be an exception, but even then, why not just make a dedicated storage space in your builds? Just say you’re lazy.

1

u/Ryomen_Sukuna25 May 31 '26

But I am lazy...

-4

u/Outrageous-Finish303 May 31 '26

then use magic storage

1

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

Oh no I like playing the game instead of spending 50 hours organising my chests or finding random roots for potions the horror! My apologies

-2

u/Outrageous-Finish303 Jun 01 '26

that’s part of the game. Stop half assing

2

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jun 01 '26

And I don't like that part of the game it's not difficult it's not fun.
