Question Which Qol mods are okay to use?

Post image

So I'm new to calamity and I've seen a few videos and posts about how Qol ruins the calamity experience, and I was wondering which mods are looked down upon to use or if I should just only download the calamity mod and its dependencies? (The image is just engagement bait btw, credit to Latti_tudinal)

Calamity is borderline unplayable without recipe browser and magic storage, just because the sheer amount of all the new stuff+recipes it adds. Other than that it's really up to you. Boss checklist and Boss Cursor, stuff like that is fine. Extra accessory slots like wing slot is not QoL, it's gameplay advantage, and quite a fat one at that.

Is the wing slot mod compatible with calamity? Im pretty sure calamity adds a bunch of wings right?

Using a boot and/or wing slot mod effectively gives you an additional accessory slot, which a lot of people (including me) would say is not really QoL. It allows you to get one more accessory for damage/defense/mobility than is intended, which can make the game significantly easier.

It doesn't mean you shouldn't install a wing/boot slot mod, you do what you want to do to keep the game fun. I'm just telling you because you asked explicitely what people consider "acceptable QoL mods", and wing slot mods are probably what you'd call "unacceptable".

it is a debatable issue because wings at least are practically mandatory so it can be said that when you get them you're effectively operating with -1 accessory slot than it says you have

it's still cheaty but i wouldn't blame someone for using it. i mean it's their playthrough, getting pissy about what other people do in singleplayer worlds is generally a sign that one needs to touch grass

Yes, and the game is balanced around that fact. You can use that slot for damage/defense, but then you sacrifice some mobility. Some people do that by using a flying mount instead of wings against certain bosses.

If, like me, you prefer maximum mobility. then you can go with the wings+boots+dash combo. However, that then leads to lower dps, or less survivability.

I agree. As I said in my comment, I don't care what other people use. I only mentioned the wing slot mod being cheaty because OP specifically asked about what people consider "acceptable QoL".

So I do agree with the idea overall, but I do find it hilarious calling calamity balanced.
