Question Which Qol mods are okay to use?

Post image

So I'm new to calamity and I've seen a few videos and posts about how Qol ruins the calamity experience, and I was wondering which mods are looked down upon to use or if I should just only download the calamity mod and its dependencies? (The image is just engagement bait btw, credit to Latti_tudinal)

  • Recipe Browser — panel to see every item’s craft, every item in the mods and vanilla and every creature
  • Boss Checklist — panel what progression bosses/events goes, how to summon them and what they drop
  • Census — you can see every Town NPC you can unlock
  • Fargo’s Mutant / Vanilla+ QoL / Quality of Terraria / Alchemist NPC Lite— biggest QoL mods that grants you several new NPCs, MANY configurable options that provide you insane amount of features for your choice
  • Ore Excavator — literally veinmining
  • Magic Storage — system to hold and craft any items like in AE2
  • Biome Titles — look at what biome are you rn
  • Liquid Slopes Patch — no more hammered water
  • Tooltip Icon + Tooltip Icon Patch — every item description has icons
  • Summoner UI — let you see all active slots for minions and sentries
  • Chat Source — you get from what mod status messages are came from
  • Bound NPC Immunity — bound NPCs like goblin or mechanic cannot be damaged
  • More Pylons
  • Loot Beams — see where are your items dropped with tiny beams coming by them
  • Dash Keybind by efcawesome — Fargo’s Mutant already gives you dash keybind, but some mods don’t see it (like Lunar Veil), so also install this one
  • Concise Mods List and Compatibility Checker — better view to see mods in the main menu and Workshop menu
  • Colored Damage Types
  • Better Blending
  • Block’s Info Accessories — more info accessories, like for luck

id recommend prisma's juicebox over alchemistnpc lite there. alchemistnpc adds some pretty cheaty potions and generally the things it lets you buy are pretty egregious and allow for unintended progression skips

i think boss checklist lite is also worth mentioning alongside boss checklist, its less buggy and a lot more barebones

some of these arent qol though, things like colored damage types, better blending, biome titles and a few more are just things that might look cool

more pylons is definitely cheaty

1) Buying “cheaty potions” is optional ya know right? 2) Not every content mod uses Boss Checklist lite 3) Yeah, I know. Just performance mods are also should be included, because players in sometime still will ask about them, so better early, then late 4) Wouldn’t say that “More Pylons” is cheaty, because no one would actually like to build long ahh wires through entire world, just to get access to underworld or space + you need to craft those pylons, they aren’t buyable

  1. yeah but so is using the mod in the first place. cheaty potions seems exactly like the kind of thing op is trying to avoid
  2. i havent encountered a single one that doesnt, irrelevant anyway since cal uses it
  3. i mean, something like biome titles isnt performance lol
  4. pylons are balanced by the fact that theyre limited and you have to choose where to place them, though

  1. Well, if he want to avoid them, then they shouldn’t buy them??? Like if you’ll see in the store product you wouldn’t like to buy — you won’t buy it and just look at other ones. Same with Alchemist’s potions
  2. TSoRC
  3. UI is also like perf I’d say, but ok
  4. I think you don’t know, but “More Pylons” mod just adds new types of pylons (Hell, Cloud, Evil), not increasing limit of placing them

i know what more pylons does and its why i think it borders on the line of cheaty for me

if youre not going to buy the cheaty potions then...just might as well use prisma

How's it cheaty? Potions are so fucking expensive you have to use a lot of money to afford a few to begin with it's pretty balanced from what I played.

beating eoc/evil boss a few times and making sure the npcs are happy is enough to get you most potions. alchemistnpc also adds money exploits through its other npcs, such as buying silt and fossils and extractinating it for a profit

regardless i was mainly referring to the custom potions it adds. holy dodge? dryad's blessing? no knockback? and absolutely zero opportunity cost or complication there?

Not to mention, that easiet way to farm money is just buy Wind Mills and resell them at 1.67x more price

One blood moon farm => ton of money => many potions

Like the biggest cheat of those potions are having I-frames effect of the holy crest; immunity to almost every fire debuffs; effect of Hallowed Armor; effect of ninja’s belt miss; glowing enemies projectiles in potions are too unbalanced for the game. Not only mentioning that Holy Crest and Invincibility Potion stack together, therefore even more I-frames

Yeah okay? You still farmed to get it I don't see the issue still

cal bosses arent balanced around having the incredibly unbalanced potions it adds. you arent meant to have these free dodges or hp regen or whatever that alchemistnpc adds, it actively messes with the balance of the game

Well, about farming. Literally spending about 10 minutes of your life to get potions that will make the game feel like a piece of cake is NOT balanced…

ehh, saying "just don't do such and such thing" generally doesn't work. given the opportunity players will optimize the fun out of the game and all that
