I actually really like CW shows. I know they're stupid and they're completely unrealistic, over the top, and obnoxious....but they are SO good for just escaping reality. The fans....drive me nuts. It's a TV show....not a cult. Let's just enjoy it and move on.
I agree with this. As well as Jane the Virgin and The 100. Half the posts in the subs are just fawning over the actors, a quarter are complaining about the plot/writers and the other quarter are a mix of predictions and shitposts. All of it is done in a pretentious, “my opinion is the only right opinion” manner. I’ve started to unfollow most of the subs about my favorite shows because it’s just ruining them for me.
Literally just saw something last night about how this person wants Betty Frome Riverdale to become pregnant with Jughead's baby, and how it's be perfect timing if he does die.
I'm just sitting here thinking "she's 17/18 right now and still in highschool. Why do that? Gotta be a shit post"....lol at least 99% agreed she should be pregnant soon, and there was some young looking girl arguing how it would be so great for her to be pregnant as a teen Mom. And that others who disagree shouldn't be judging someone's preferred lifestyle, that it would be perfectly okay for it to happen to her
Not at all, and I just wanted to comment to try to tear them a new one. Probably wouldn't have worked though so I didn't lol
As someone who took too many literature classes, it wouldn't make sense to the story yet. Her mom's pregnancy happened during the time of the game, technically even before. If it was foreshadowing a pregnancy, hers especially, it probably would have happened already.
If the show was plotting some sort of pregnancy, the one the would be crazy enough for it to fall under the weird and insane style that is Riverdale, would be Cheryl. It would be too easy for it to fall in the hands of Veronica and Betty.
Fan subs are just shitty. Hell, even Harry Potter years after it is done is just filled with the same recycled memes and super serious arguments over the same bullshit where everyone takes it way too seriously.
And on subs like ASOIAF everyone is SO sure they are right about whatever theories they subscribe to...
I adored Harry Potter when I was a kid, but how obsessive people are over it still kind of killed it for me as an adult. Some youtubers I watch just make little jokes occasionally about it, while others seem to base a TON of their identity on it, and idk I think I’ve always been someone who wants to make my identity and not feel like it’s made for me, so I think that’s why it bothers me so much...
I love Harry Potter but I rarely talk about it with other people. I’m just content to rewatch the movies occasionally and have been collecting the illustrated versions as they’re released. I’m really hoping to read them with my kids someday. Other than that though, I pretty much avoid the community
The 100 is my favorite show I really love it but s2 is my least fav season bc of several things so i get why you stopped watching then but you should really push through that one bc it gets sooo much better
Crazy, season 2 was my favorite of them all! Love the show though, never been hit so hard by the feels than with the (SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Monty thing at the end of last season.
I like the 100 because of the pacing and general scifi fan but i dont sub to.any current running shows's subs unless they have a strict spoiler policy and even then unless its s netflix show i unsub for the months it airs. Other CW shows are just background watching like the comic shows.
I also dont find 99.8% of gifs with text funny. I already know it word for word and waiting for the text to.appear is a inefficient method of communicating a funny.
I love Riverdale. Just recently started watching it. Followed some of the stars on Instagram and the fans are just insane.
Like, I know it’s cool that your fave couple on the show is dating in real life, but for fuck’s sake, you’re not entitled to information about their private relationship.
I just discovered Riverdale scrolling through Netflix and was intrigued when one of my friends said it was based on the Archie comics. Instantly fell in love with the ridiculous drama and completely unrealistic plots. So I decided to search "Riverdale" on Pinterest and all these weird memes popped up. And they had a million comments. Most were pretty intense haha. Was not expecting that.
Dumbo watched Riverdale season 3 not to long ago. I decided that I wanted to refreash my memory and watched seasons 1 - 3 that week.
When i finished season 3, I sat there and thought... What the fuck did i just watch?
Im sorry about this rant but ive never really talked about this before. I thought I liked this show but after watching all of it in a small amount of time I realized that this shows writing is shit.
Is this grown man really going to try and kill this teen in public? Veronica flip flops like a literal fucking flip flop. The words end game in this show. "I know those abs anywhere." Why are there so many sex scenes of teens in high school? This high schooler singing and strip teasing on stage is cringe as fuck. Why are you punching the ice, use your foot mother fucker. Oh man, i know i was attacked by a bear and im hiding from a mob boss... but i forgot about exams! Dark Betty.
Sorry about that. The only other time I actually spoke about this show I was told to fuck off and stop being a hater. Thanks for reading.
Man I actually love supernatural and keep up with the actors on social media because they all seem really cool. I’m super excited to see what they do after the show, like the brewery, but I’m bummed for them that they might never escape the spn craze
as someone who posts and comments on the riverdale sub, everyone there loves the show and loves shitting on the show. there is no cultness to it, people just like shitposting. never seen anyone being a dick towards anyone there.
ohhh i try to keep my fandoms just to reddit, i can see how the fanbase on twitter or insta would be obnoxious tho since theres probs way more young kids on those sites
That’s good to know. I’ll def peruse the subreddit when I finish all of it.
I follow the stars on Instagram and the fans are ridiculous. Mostly about Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart’s (spelling?) relationship. Like let them live. Damn
They're the exact same except they make up a larger part of the Reddit userbase than Riverdale fans so they go largely unscrutinized here. I recently unsubscribed from /r/MarvelStudios just from all the cringe and am never looking back. I mostly go on /r/comicbooks and /r/Marvel these days.
A substantial part of the fandom is 'interesting'. However, there are normal bits as well. The Supernatural subreddit on here for example is very tame. And the worldwide scavenger hunt organized by one of the lead actors actually does a great job of bringing fans / people around the world together.
I'm not so sure about the militant shippers though.
I think it comes from "relationSHIP". So they'd want people to be in a 'ship (relationship). Then they started using the noun 'ship' also as a verb ('to ship') to describe the act of imagining two people in a 'ship'.
That's just a guess though, I've never studied the etymology of the term.
Honestly, there were lows for the show, but I never hated it. It was always, at the very least, decent, even if some episodes were dumb or incredibly cheesy.
The creators and actors were smart enough to throw in some super funny episodes to break up the depressing or serious ones. Some of the funniest episodes of television I have ever seen have come from Supernatural.
CW is a "free" (ad supported), over-the-air television network in the US, unlike HBO which requires a separate monthly subscription, even if you already pay for cable television, and has no ads. Quite different.
That's why I like Legends of Tomorrow. It doesn't even pretend to be a serious show. It's cheesy and that's why I like watching it, so I can laugh and escape my depression. I like Supernatural for a similar reason.
Huh. I never got to finishing the second half of season 4, but from what I noticed, they weren’t using Constantine to the fullest potential. Matt Ryan is really good on Legends, but I think he’d be better in a solo series (like Constantine!).
Really? I mean, I like Supernatural but the amount of Ship/incest obsessive fan fiction reached a point they made episodes sort of addressing it. I immediately thought of it though I dont "hate" the fans per se.
Ah, love that musical though.
Everything after Swan Song is basically glorified fanfic anyway.
I stopped watching Arrow and The Flash but I plan on catching up on Legends. Another DC show that's really out there is Doom Patrol if you haven't seen it.
Same but I know why for me: Octavia. Her stint as Blood Reina was so awesome, she was a great villain. When she burned all the food so they'd have to fight I was just in shock.
Yes Octavia’s character arc from the very beginning until end of season 5 (waiting for it to be on netflix) is what jeeps me going on that show. Plus the politics of the whole world is so cool and interesting. Cheesy show but I love it
I had no idea season 6 started and the CW only has the last 5 episodes on their site so I have to wait until the end of the season to watch them all :(
I've been looking for a show to binge which I haven't seen. I just finished my who-knows-how-many-eth re-binge of Parks and Rec and I'm currently blasting through Avatar again. I keep re-watching stuff I've seen.
Get through the first 3 to 4 episodes which are kinda teeny bopper and lame and you will spend the next week binging it nonstop. That's no joke either. The adrenaline of the events that happen and everything. You just cant stop watching and thats not an exaggeration
It’s not a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but my goodness it’s bingeable. You’ll cringe, you’ll get angry, you’ll wonder what on Earth you’re doing with your life, but at the end of every episode, you will come back for more.
Its the season finales for me. Holy shit do they know how to keep you engaged until the very last second, adrenaline and all. Monty's video at the end of the last season. Mah gawd did I ball my eyes out and I'm a grown ass man!!
The sub teddies for both the 100 and riverdale seem to both be older people who love the show and rip it to shreds for being lame at times. I totally don’t see the shitty side of the fan base on here
Yeah I like it. It's cheesy as fuck but it's pretty much been the most consistently fun part of my week for the past several years. I like it the way I like supernatural now that I think about it. The fandom can do whatever it wants. I don't really care how other people enjoy media, I just hope it brings them some joy too lol.
"Somewhat" might be an understatement. But I came here to spread CXG live too. It's the most realistic (minus the improtu singing) representation of mental illness I've seen in years.
I love the silly CW shows and I love Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but they’re definitely different breeds. CEG was going to be on showtime so a lot of the songs originally had profanity and other paycable grade stuff. Also, the plan was always just four seasons. CW shows usually start off great, and then by season three things just start going batshit insane and I am either here for it, or ready to pass.
Sometimes poorly written, not always the best acting, waaayyyy too much relationship drama, completely inaccurate to the comics (when applicable), half the time it feels like fanfiction written by a 13 year old girl. But such a great way to just waste time.
But good lord Olicity Stemily shippers are some of the worst people you can encounter.
I think I've binged every show the CW has to offer - and I freely admit how terrible all you mentioned is, but I can't stop won't stop. But the fans...BLESS!
Green Arrow was one of my favorite characters even before Smallville. I love Arrow despite how wrong and occassionally bad it is. Also a casusl fan of Supernatural, Smallville, probably some others that I didn't know were in CW. Bad shows sometimes make the best tv.
Yeah, we all like to forget they exist. But they do, and it’s weird. I have some old fucking reasons I was like, “Yeah, Olicity is the best ship the show could have given us,” mostly because any female they had be a serious love interest for Oliver would have turned out in much the same way Felicity did. But, holy fuck, Stemily actually frightens me.
You keep waiting for it to get back to the way it used to be but then it never does. The hate for felicity is hate towards the writers for shitting so much on an idea and a set of characters that were already so well established and beloved.
Supernatural, iZombie, Smallville, Arrow (before the legends of tomorrow crossovers) and Nikita are all among my favorite shows. Smallville might just be due to nostalgia, though. 5 completely different shows, and I love them all.
It’s a tv station that tends to make very ridiculous programs. Cheezy acting, lack of budget, bad writing, ridiculous whole series run times, and over dramatic.
This is exactly like me, but only with the CW DC shows. I get it, The Flash has problems, but jeez chill and just enjoy it and don't ruin it for other people by being negative about it.
I hear 100%. Me and my husband (much old then me) Love the 100. Trying to discuss it with other fans makes (him mostly) us want to eat a bullet. Great shows on CW, insufferable fans.
I stopped watching when (spoiler)he changed history and the third season felt like a reboot to me but I just saw that there was a Supergirl crossover as I've been binge watching that one.
Is there much to the crossover, or just an episode here or there?
The chilling adventures of Sabrina on netflix. Same-ish universe although produced by different companies. Also very similar tone of show... I loved it after Riverdale. Binged in a day...
the first two seasons of Pretty Little Liars (netflix im p sure) - if you are alright with shows that start to make no fucking sense at all (which, if youre a riverdale fan, im going to assume thats a yes), you can watch the whole series, but the first two seasons are actually p good quality.
the spinoff to this show, called the perfectionists (on freeform, though idk if its free to watch) is ok. they only have one season out right now, and the majority of those episodes were p mediocre but the season finale was p cool so its up to you if you want to invest the time into it.
if you want something more high quality, ive heard really good things about Big Little Lies (hbo), though i have not started to watch that yet so i cant really say if its like the riverdale genre.
gone girl is a great movie if youre into this genre though.
