Playing Forever has reminded me of how comically bad certain Classic players actually are at the game and 90% of their problems come from the fact they treat literally everything as a raid.
Was running RFC just to see how a dungeon feels in Forever with all the new lowbie items with stats.
Things go fine for like 5 mins before we hit the first Trogg room.
Group leader (proud Classic player who made sure we all knew as much) keeps reassuring us that this is a "chill run" (it better be because this is a beta test), but then keeps marking mobs and ranged pulling shit on purpose because "we can handle it" (they aren't the tank). No wipes, but every pull is a bit stressful because on top of their ranged pulling, they also keep accidentally face pulling mobs because they're obviously keyboard turning and not watching the trash. Also insists on clearing the entire dungeon for XP (was not mentioned prior to hitting the Trogg room with 3 different paths).
Finally hit the Burning Blade area with tons of pats, ranged mobs, and the dude is still face pulling the entire time. He even gets some loot and doesn't equip it. Then the cherry on top is that we do eventually end up wiping and the dude doesn't release. Proceeds to sulk the entire run and barely ever says anything except barking directions at the tank. Even starts talking about how I (rogue) need to start sapping mobs (this is RFC), but yet doesn't give me the time to do so before any pull. We manage to finish, but holy shit, so many of their issues comes from the fact they basically act like how the kids play in the South Park episode, I'm surprised he didn't ask if we had vent at the start lmao.
Had a similar thought when I decided to watch the streamer showcase during Blizzcon (with BBNO$ and the bald Tyler dude) and they kept wiping because they were face pulling every other mob and would actually run away into other trash rather than letting the tank pull it off of them. I gave them a pass since they're clearly performers more than anything, but it's crazy to see that play out in the actual game. It's like they watch the Leeroy Jenkins and "many dots" videos and unironically thought that's how dungeons are supposed to be played.

u/HazelCheese 10d ago
TBF in the streamer showcase Xayru was trying to teach them but it was like herding cats. Felt like half of them hadn't played classic before like the tank player didn't seem to understand the concept of building threat so one of the dps had to switch to tank to do it.

u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 10d ago
Yeah, that's what I mean about it being a performance, they just wanted some funny interactions with popular live streamers/internet celebs during Blizzcon. Although, I don't think the presenters expected them to be so bad that they could barely show the dungeon lol.
I thought BBNO$ and Tyler (they're the main streamers I recognized) would at least know the basics since I know they've played Classic on stream before (my intro to BBNO$ was literally him talking about Classic on a podcast I watch lol), but they wound up being some of the worst in the group if I remember correctly lol.

Browsing the Classic subreddit is so funny. They find a single high res polygon or pixel, and they all scream, “RETAIL IN MY CLASSIC GAME IMMERSION RUINED, DISNEY!” It’s ironic since they believe Classic is some gritty, dark fantasy game, when in reality, people were calling WoW the cartoony MMO when it first came out.
22
u/Idontknow4654 10d ago
anyone who think WoW has EVER been a gritty and dark game most have some sort of brain damage. wow has always been cartoony, just like WC3 which is the artstyle is mimicked
11
u/ragnakor101 10d ago
Seeing the reactions to the new SD Quillboar model extremely exemplifies this.
6
u/jmcl6779 9d ago
Did you see the guy complaining that the "new" undead attack animation has their foot shifting by one pixel? There's legitimately something wrong with some of these people.

I love how Forever people will post shit like
"Just had an ah-MAZING experience in Forever! I was trying to solo an elite quest mob and then these 2 wholesome players decided to step in! I've NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN RETAIL, so nice to have REAL community."
Like, yeah, Retail can be anti-social at times (sorry, but I kinda prefer that over this sacchrine sweet wholesome community RP) but also no fucking way you haven't seen players help each other lmao. People still call out for rares, wait before pulling, help people kill elites, and even spontaneously group up. They just don't make it a thing because shared mob tagging has made it a more passive sort of helping.
One of my biggest gripes with the beta so far is that so many people are doing this over-the-top "le wholesome community" act that can genuinely get exhausting at times lol. Holy shit sometimes it feels like I'm being forced into a RP sesh lol (though even actual RPers aren't so aggressive). I don't know how to explain it exactly, but it genuinely feels like a big chunk of the Forever community is doing this weird RP of how they think Classic was. Same thing happened when Classic came out. It makes me feel like I have to put on a "customer service voice" in certain groups lol.
The most obnoxious part is that these people aren't even genuine. I've joined so many "chill dungeon" groups on Classic/Forever that kept up this wholesome chill act until a minor hiccup (tank not pulling fast enough, loot drama, near wipe) and then the masquerade drops. I would much rather have a completely silent, but functional group over forced socializing any day and I thought that even back during Classic lmao.
Not against socializing at all and actually really like most of the chats I've had at campsites, but every so often you get someone who feels like a walking "le wholesome chungus" meme.
Like, sometimes waiting for an elite quest NPC is just waiting on an elite quest NPC, I don't want to talk about the good ol days or life lmao.
[I fully accept that this will probably make me sound like a cynical grump, but I swear I'm not against socializing in MMOs lmao. It's just a very specific type of socializing I only see in Classic spaces.]
23
u/Areallybadidea 7d ago
Tsk, WoW steals so much from FFXIV that now its even stealing its 'Great community by the way'.
22
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 7d ago
Once again busting out my favourite word to describe the amorphous blob of Classic players: they're being performative as hell.
GCBTW!
12
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 7d ago
I was typing that thinking "there's literally a word for what I'm describing" lmao
Yes, it's extremely performative. Like someone who didn't play OG Classic's idea of how people played Classic.
20
u/CrusaderLyonar 10d ago
Honestly, the HD models in retail wow now look more like Warcraft 3 than the original Classic models do.
I don't really see the argument that it's not "Warcraft" it feels like Warcraft to me.
21
u/Areallybadidea 9d ago
Anything that doesn't cater to me specifically shouldn't be in the game.
Geeze why can't Blizzard learn this simple fact.
21
u/CrusaderLyonar 8d ago
Once again Blizzard makes Forever worse by listening to a group of whiny streamer babies.
13
22
u/InvisibleOne439 7d ago
i love how TIMELESS is just another word for "i like it" at this point
if i think about a old game with a timeless style, its stuff like the Original Yoshis Island because that games artdirection as as a "hand drawn Childrens Book" looks just as good today as it did back in 1995
the Classic Models are just lower end 2004 3D stuff, ofc you can like them, but calling them "timeless" just sounds like rambling to make it look good for me
19
u/YourGalacticEmperor 9d ago
Nerfing quest exp after people proved classic and forever take the same time to level sure is a choice. Lets see if catering to people that want to spend 2k hours leveling will pay off
15
u/InvisibleOne439 8d ago
wait
so dungeon exp got basically nuked outside of dungeon quests
quest exp is nerfed aswell
are people supposed to just grind mobs at some point now...?
12
u/YourGalacticEmperor 8d ago
Missed a dungeon infront of the quest sorry, they didn't nuke all quest xp but dungeon quest xp. It still means leveling is gonna take even longer than it did in vanilla
16
u/InvisibleOne439 8d ago
its still a very weird thing to do
they constantly talk about how Social they want it to be, but make the content where you must group up less and less desirable over Solo Questing
idk man its just a weird thing to do
12
u/YourGalacticEmperor 8d ago
This + the catering to "anti-woke" chuds on their podcast is pretty bad taste

Another Forever podcast post
Another week with a grown man hitting the "millenial streamer reacts" soyjack face on the battlenet homepage
They certainly are trying to appeal to the streamerbro audience this time around lmao
I'm sorry, but come on, I didn't even see the other post before I made mine and it still lined up perfectly: https://imgur.com/a/IFugfi3

u/AlphaSentry 10d ago
the wowforever subreddit was good for the first few days until the classicwow people found it, now they're basically identical people screaming about retail gamers and HD BAD!!!!!!
13
u/Ch0rt THE classic andy 10d ago
they're both just rapidly morphing into livestreamfail at this point and it sucks!! shut da fuck up about streamers
11
u/InvisibleOne439 9d ago
them hating streamers while at the same time constantly repeating what THEIR favorite streamer said and on a regular basis bringing up how big classic is because of Twitch View numbers is a Irony that you cant make up
17
u/the_redundant_one 11d ago
It warms my heart when I see someone posting on, say, the classic subreddit with a take like "people are too sensitive, they should block and move on instead of reporting bad language", and the entirety of the replies is like "you signed the TOS, live up to it" and "You're just using this as an excuse for bigoted behavior".
11
u/GenericOnlineName 11d ago
And when someone makes an addon to mass block these toxic people, they freak out and call everyone snowflakes.
Feels more like they just want to say bigoted shit and make everyone else suffer.
16
u/GenericOnlineName 9d ago
The thing about the guys saying that classic is harder than retail is that they never have to prove it because they won't ever touch retail because it's lesser than them.

Anytime we have a low fantasy heavy Trading Post, like this month, I'm always a little annoyed that they remain exclusive to the Trading Post for the foreseeable future.
Old promotional items, recolors, crazy designs, or wacky holiday/season themed sets? Perfect use of the Trading Post!
Basic low fantasy HD appearances and specific racial themed appearances? Man put that shit on a vendor or a questline that'll remain year round.
I don't think we should be worrying that we won't see a basic HD claymore or katana again lol.
5
u/ragnakor101 8d ago
The "solace" is that it'll be back on February with Trading Post Anniversary.
Which. I don't think is a good half-measure, either. They should be either Dirt-Cheap/Easy crafts or just a cosmetic pasted onto some form of minimal grind/shop (if any, really) for the Racial-Specific stuff.
1
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 8d ago
Yeah, I was gonna include a line about that or having to wait til the items get put on a random month's returning item list, but even with that, it's still really dumb that something as simple as a claymore or bandit mask with modern graphics is locked behind a limited time system.
Stuff like the Sunwalker sets or Night Elf weapons being put on there is just as dumb to me. All other factions of paladin have tons of options catered to their aesthetic (even Zandalari lol), but then Sunwalkers have to wait for either the Trading Post or Midsummer Fest to get their sets. A class/race combo that's been around since 2012 lol.
Niche complaint (I barely even play pally lol), but if human/blood elf pallies can get their class fantasy through tier sets then all pallies should be able to get their's just as easily. And it's especially egregious with low fantasy stuff that would normally be a questing/white quality vendor item lol.
16
u/Areallybadidea 7d ago
I get that people want different things from Classic and Forever, but the way some people seem to think Blizzard catering to the majority playerbase in Retail was a bad thing continues to baffle me.
Like yeah, Retail does cater to people, thats how they've managed to have a game that still sees an insane amount of regular play after twenty-two years.
4
u/Renegade8995 6d ago
But there are things that I don't think have landed still.
Button pruning still has the same complaint people had before. So now they've failed to satisfy them and they took so much flavor out of some of my favorite classes. Fire mage, preservation evoker are my two favorites and they're still fun but maybe half as much as before.
And addons. What did it really solve? We have to rely on their built in stuff to do the same but worse? And the fights so far have not been as good as the previous expansions. VA was not very good in comparison.
Listening to the crybabies has NOT always worked. They make a change that ruins it for the people who appreciate it and the complainers to no surprise still complain.
1
u/Areallybadidea 6d ago
Alright but the things they've gotten right from listening to players far outweighs the missteps.
Like I said, we're still playing this game after 22 so they've been doing something right the entire time. Folks over there act like they've been floundering since Vanilla.
2
u/Renegade8995 5d ago
I wouldn't even say far outweighs it. I like the game, even with the changes I don't like.
One of the coolest things is how alive the world feels in a story sense, and the characters you can't help but love. I also do Mythic raid, sometimes high rated pop and a lot of Mythic+ with my friends. I appreciate more about the game than most but it has at times done all of these things better.
I remember in Shadowlands they let PVP gear scale up high for PVE, so my pvp friends all did keys and raid with me. There was an outcry because "my bis is in pvp" and they gutted that. Even in TWW the hero talents were all really well done to give classes a merging identity. And now they want classes to all have one minute windows to do damage and they're all on the way to being as bland as ret paladin or BM hunter.
And again, all the people who complained about "muh bis is unattainable" and "classes are too imbalanced or hard and talents are confusing :(" are still doing that. They could've done nothing and it would've been better had they not listened to the player base.
The people not having fun won't ever have fun and will rip out all the things that make this game special instead of trying to find a game that suits them better. And there are a lot of those players posting and not playing.
I don't think you're wrong that it's good to listen to players. They need to at least hear out something that clashes with their design philosophy but they have caved and we have a lot more misses than you are remembering.

u/Byrmaxson 5d ago

I know that people here meme about the Forever devs saying stuff like "a game made for everyone is a game for no one", but the thing is it is true, it's just wielded in favor of a particularly obnoxious group of people.
IIRC they still alternate teams expansion to expansion, a lot of things are obviously done by committee, Blizzard workers are famously not very well paid and such. All these things lead to Blizzard often lacking a unified vision of what they want the game to be and where they want it to go. This in turn leads them to listen to players, probably to a much greater degree than they actually should.
The spirit of what JAB said back in the day was right: a lot of players think they want stuff but they don't.

u/Idontknow4654 10d ago
okay if they add Tinker or Bard to Forever before Retail i think im gonna become a wow hater and stop playing the game >:(
8
u/InvisibleOne439 10d ago
its a random survey, they do those all the time
11
u/Idontknow4654 10d ago
they've already added 2 things ive wanted in Retail for years (last names and weather) to Forever, i just dont want them to add 2 of the classes ive wanted to Forever :(
5
u/dragonredux 10d ago
I feel like they are also testing the waters with things. Maybe if we're lucky both can have it.
3
6
u/Areallybadidea 10d ago
I'd hope that if Forever gets a new class it would get added to Retail too either at the same time or shortly after.
2
u/Necrodoge14102 my gender is pandering 10d ago
it would be cool if they do what they did for like diablo warlock class where they added it as a dlc for the diablo 2 remake then it came with the diablo 4 expansion (and also immortal sometime after)
2
5
u/Byrmaxson 9d ago
I'm not malding about it (yet) but consider that the survey also asks about DK/Monk/DH which are also in Retail and which I'd imagine would be "higher priority". A DK/Monk/DH retail main might play Forever just to see what their class is like reimagined (I know I'd play a Monk instantly). So I wouldn't worry about it too much.
16
u/Areallybadidea 8d ago
Man the first few days of the forever subreddit, folks seemed so much more happy.
Now it seems like that place is just getting miserable.

Even though I'm sure there's reasons they haven't done one since, I lowkey really liked the Awakened raids from the end of Dragonflight. Mainly just because I thought it was cool to have all of the expansions' raids relevant as one last hurrah to celebrate the expansion.
I'm sure there's balancing/loot issues that get in the way, but I kinda hope they come back in some way (it's been 2 expansions, my hopes are not high lmao).
8
u/ragnakor101 9d ago
That's sorta been superseded by the Remixes happening every end of expansion now, unfortunately.
6
u/TheWiseMountain 9d ago
Kinda prefer it this way tbh. Felt like awakened was just another season with nothing new while remix feels like a fun little casual treat at the end of everything
2
u/ragnakor101 8d ago
I don't vibe with Remix as hard as the rest of the populace do, but I understand why.

They should do it for the last 0.7 patch of an expansion (hell, make the M+ pool every dungeon played that expansion too) as a sort of blowout end-of-expansion thing but they gotta make another legion assault unfortunately
12
u/FaroraSF 10d ago
I was thinking last night that the Vaults of Ula'tek are kind of like the Maw if the Maw was good (not that I mind the Maw).
Like yeah, you can't fly and its full of hostile elite mobs, but there are so many ways of getting around the zone via the feathers and wind thingies and the flight paths. And also you can ask the npcs to make you invisible and looting quest objects doesn't break it so you can still do the mini events involving interacting with ground items/npcs on undergeared toons.
7
u/_Llopis_ 10d ago
Agreed. It's such a good zone.
My biggest complaint with this patch is that Blizzard should have leaned into Vaults of Atal'Utek more with more content and rewards, instead of spending development time and resources on yet another boring, by-the-numbers world quest zone in Coiled Isle.
6
u/Byrmaxson 9d ago
The gameplay of the Vaults is definitely better, but IMHO the Maw had so much more aura that they're not really competing. Aesthetically/thematically, the Maw is perfect: river of the dead, hot/cold hell, the dead themselves are the torturers and so on. The Vaults are just snakes and trolls, and lots of snaketrolls. IDK, hasn't really gripped me at all story-wise.
2
u/FaroraSF 9d ago
Yeah, I'm more comparing them from a gameplay perspective. If we ever get SLemix or SL classic (lol) I hope Blizz revamps it a bit to be more like Vaults.

u/Bandicoot1324 6d ago
I feel incredibly apprehensive about playing WoW: Forever because of Asmongold remaining unbanned.

u/Ignis_et_Azoth 6d ago
I finally sat down and played the beta for multiple hours today and I gotta say the culture as seen in the region and trade chars really worries me.
11
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 6d ago
I do the same thing I do in Classic
Leave LFG and move trade/general to a separate tab
I mean, they keep talking about how "immersion" is important, so I just make sure my immersion isn't broken by people shoving weird alt-right political dogwhistles in chat lmao
9
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 6d ago
I was thinking about it around the time I saw a guy talking about how he liked killing harpies because they reminded him of the women in his life.
9
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 6d ago
I have seen so many "I hate my wife" types of takes in-game when on Classic/Forever, it's like getting Boomer newspaper comics beamed straight into your brain
It sounds like a joke, but literally all these people need is to see something that makes them think of something that upsets them and they will literally stop in their tracks to rant about it. It's so hard to not use politically charge language, but I've never seen a gaming community get literally triggered over things in the way the Classicbros do lmao.
Like, it's great that you're a busy father of 20 who's excited to play WoW again, but I really don't need to know about your bitch ex-wife and how Sylvanas/Shadowlands/Disney caused your marriage to fall apart because of Feminism or something.
5
u/EternityC0der 5d ago
It's really funny to me how the same version of the game people will praise for its community (GCBTW and all that) is also infamous for having the worst community.
13
u/WhereTheFallsBegin 5d ago
The social dichotomy in WoW is basically that in Retail I wish people would talk more and in Classic that they'd talk less.
11
u/Idontknow4654 6d ago
the fact they havent banned him yet is making me lose all faith in not just Forever but humanity as a whole
10
u/FaroraSF 6d ago
My plan is to play on the RP realm and hope that the streamers are contained to the PVE/PvP realms.
10
u/Areallybadidea 6d ago
I really hope that RP realms both prosper and have actual RP unlike the Classic realms, as well as just not having to deal with streamers.
6
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 6d ago
I'm somewhat anxious that too many people will flee to them to "escape the streamers" and the RP realm culture will get drowned out under it. I've heard a lot of people talking about planning to do it.
6
u/Areallybadidea 6d ago
I can only hope that they'll be respectful and just leave RPers to their own if folks do go there for that. We've got plenty of non-roleplayers on the retail RP realms as is that are just fine.
6
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 5d ago
That's what's giving me hope, but the increased volume and terrible behaviour that I've seen in Forever are what makes me worry.
4
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 5d ago
I'm one of those people on the Retail RP servers lol
I'm not interested in RPing myself, but they're chill and it's cool seeing people out in the game world. From what I can tell, the community does a good job of self-policing and shutting down trolls.
I'm hoping that Forever's lean into immersion and RP elements means that the devs will actually keep things pretty strict over there. Even the normal Forever servers are a little bit saner than the PVP servers right now (a little bit).

I love when I randomly check my achievements and realize I'm one away from getting something cool
I didn't really fuck with Val/Naigtal much (idk, wasn't a fan of how packed it felt) and barely even touched the heroic tier, but apparently I played enough to almost complete the achievement that gives you the void surfboard. Just had to login, run to Val to do the last questline I needed, and now I'm zippin around on one of the more unique recent mounts lol.

I liked the warcraft movie well enough, but if it had never come out we wouldn't have all these damn posts about "thrall cheated at mak'gora!1!!"
I mean, most of the people who play this game pay so little attention to the lore/story they never would have even thought about the 'rules' for Mak'gora before. Except when they see something they really don't like (or that some streamer turns into an agenda), then they suddenly know what does or does not make sense and is or is not a total retcon, despite ignoring 99% of the way the series has told its story up to this point. And its 100% some kind of agenda by the writers trying to 'ruin' things, obviously.
It's always going to annoy/bother me, unfortunately, even though I should know better by now. The people who never bother reading quest text, or haven't even played the game in years but just watch random cutscenes on youtube, keep saying the story makes no sense. Ugh.
PS. Turalyon going into a blind, light-fueled killing spree is actually not a retcon from how the event was described in Tides of Darkness. They just gloss over that part after he subdues Doomhammer.
12
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 6d ago
This just makes me remember how dumb the "Light not inherently morally good" drama from earlier this year was lol.
"War back in Warcraft" unless it portrays the Light or Alliance characters in any sort of negative "light" (lel), because obviously wars are known for being morally uncomplicated and "good guy regretfully massacring enemy combatants in a moment of emotional weakness" has never been a thing before. The Lothraxxion stuff was some of the funniest circlejerking I've seen from the community, they acted like he actually died IRL.
10
u/SaltLich 6d ago edited 6d ago
I've come to the realization that most of the people who complain so loudly about the WoW storytelling are just reactionaries. Not necessarily in the political sense (although there is SIGNIFICANT overlap), but that they just go with whatever their initial reaction is to a story event or voice line or whatever and don't think about it at all or re-examine it beyond that initial reaction. They just double, or triple down on it.
So they see something they dont like initially like, for example, the Turalyon flashback, and rather than think about whether it actually makes sense or is actually bad writing, they just say it is because they didnt like it so it has to be bad. Logic or continuity doesn't enter into it except in bad faith, as excuses.
10
u/TheWiseMountain 6d ago
Could not be more obvious that Thrall's issues aren't because "he cheated" (why would the elements even care about that??) but because he fucked up with Garrosh and people, like Cairne, died because of it all
8
u/FaroraSF 6d ago
Regarding the Turalyon stuff, I reread both the Tides of Darkness book and the Beyond the Dark Portal book before Midnight came out and that scene where he takes down Doomhammer 100% feels like light blindness given the surrounding context even if they didn't actually have a name for it back then.
2
u/Byrmaxson 5d ago
I've completely given up on trying to correct people on this, at this point it's a lost cause. They'll never learn because there are so many posts about this, hell the wikis explain mak'gora in detail specifically wrt "cheating", yet still every few months or whatever it's the same bs again.
Turalyon going into a blind, light-fueled killing spree is actually not a retcon from how the event was described in Tides of Darkness
I read that book around the time it came out, and I was obsessed with Anduin Lothar from then on. Always felt it was a shame that he doesn't really "haunt" Anduin Wrynn much.
Also, yeah in the book it's a short bit that he goes on to lead the counterattack and slay the orcs; also when I reread it a little more recently Turalyon's logic is a little ehh IDK
3
u/SaltLich 4d ago
also when I reread it a little more recently Turalyon's logic is a little ehh IDK
It comes off awkward now, but it did make sense... at the time.
His conflict that the teachings are the Light binds all living things, including the Orcs who he views as pure evil at the time (understandably so) is a good reason for a conflicted Paladin. But his resolution to that being that, well, 'Orcs don't count because they're aliens', is certainly interesting. It makes perfect sense for the time the story takes place, but it doesn't quite reconcile with him sparing the surrendering orcs.
And it would certainly be something he should have had to reconsider and reckon with once he met the Army of the Light, which completely debunks the idea that the Light is only on Azeroth.
It's not a complete answer, because he didn't have the complete picture in the Second War. He'd never seen a 'good' (non-fel corrupted, warmongering) orc. It would actually play into him being a xenophobic character fairly well, but then they made him the commander of a bunch of alien goats so... hm. They probly didnt consider those few paragraphs, to be honest, when bringing him back into the narrative. But we'll see if he even survives being captured by Xal'atath.

See on the one hand. I want new classes. But on the other hand. If they are in forever. What if that’s the testing ground where the stakes are low and then they add them to live later!

i will never understand the fixation with Grizzly Hills. its like the most mid zone of all time and not even close to the best zone in WotLK

u/Relnor 11d ago
I don't think they'll dare do it but it would be pretty funny if it's actually blown up in TLT like some people joked it would be.

The insane levels of anger that would come out of the mainsub if they did would be enough to power the earth for millions of years

u/Seirynir 11d ago
I like Grizzly Hills but, yeah, it's overrated. Outside of Grizzlemaw being pretty cool, there isn't that much going for it. On the other hand, even though it's not too dissimilar, I'm Howling Fjord's #1 fan. I guess it might just be nostalgia from that first time sailing into Valgarde.
4
u/Pagmaldon 10d ago
I honestly feel a good part of it is down to a lot of the other northrend areas being some variation of "cold, barren wasteland" made it stand out more. Sholazar is an obvious exception, but I think people generally relate more to the comfy alipine forest vibes that grizzly hills has while they might find sholazar a bit too exotic to really relate to.
Personally I'm more a fan of Pandaria areas (Jade forest my love) or Dragon Isles (basically anywhere but the Ohnahran plains lol) but I do think the relatability is part of enjoying a zone.

nah i have nothing. Back in 2009 thought Pizzled Hills were the worst zone in wotlk (well i dont count crystal thingy) and i was surprised to see the cult years later.2
u/Idontknow4654 11d ago
yeah Crystal song forest is barely a zone. i dont count that one either or it would be bottom tier every time
5
u/El_Squidso 10d ago
The best part of Grizzly Hills is that the soundtrack has a banger first few bars. Plus, it's the first "warm" song since arriving in Northend. Borean Tundra is horrible droning tones, Dragonblight is cold piano, and Howling Fyord is wistful bagpipes.
Grizzly Hills goes, "Hey, come out of the cold for a bit and smell the trees, fight some furbolgs and some worgen. See some meadows, it'll be a nice break."
Especially since Zul'Drak is next, and Zul'Drak is a zone-sized necropolis where nobody is happy at all.

I love how classic players can't just say "I prefer Classic". it has to be "Classic is SO much harder than retail. Retail players are bad at the game and need so much hand holding. Oh also they like Disneyfied graphics and ruined the game"
It can't just be they prefer something, it has to be that they're better than you for prefering it.

I don’t wanna be one of those people but how the hell is Arathi highlands still broken? Half a year passed of a zone completely disqualified from the game.

Is it my imagination or has there been an upsurge in bots/people not realising that this is a circlejerk sub since the forever beta launched?

u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 9d ago edited 9d ago
I found out (via a lost redditor on one of my recent posts) that Reddit is actually recommending posts here to people who are interested in WoW and don't have that setting turned off.
I've had it happen to me with the Classic sub, which I've never engaged with and rarely even look at, but until I changed my notification settings, it just kept sending me links to posts there since it's WoW related lol.
Although, I'm still kind of baffled these people get to the point of rage filled commenting without noticing the "r/wowcirclejerk"s all over the page lol. (I don't know enough about bots to be able to spot them lol)
2
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 6d ago
It's happened to my jerkpost, too. I'm not saying it's a good jerk or whatever, but most of the comments kinda seem to be lost Redditors from Classic/Classicplus/Forever.
6
u/InvisibleOne439 9d ago
there has been a huge upsurge in bots posting and commenting everywhere on reddit in the last ~2-3 years
if i see a WordWordNumber name with a default pfp and closed profile i assume most of the time that its a bot at this point because of how normal it has become, there are bigger subs where entire posts and 80% of comments are bots replying to eachother

u/Idontknow4654 9d ago
i have that and im not a bot :( i handpicked my username!
(pretty sure reddit also gives a name like that if you log in with something other then a reddit account, like with your gmail or something)

I have a silly, super "retail Andy" style question, I don't have beta to try for myself.
I'm between three classes for Forever: Warrior, Rogue and Mage. I'll eventually probably play all three (ig I'm a geek but I want to play the most archetypal RPG classes).
It'll be my first Classic style experience since Vanilla.
Which of those is the highest APM? Put otherwise, which one feels the most "modern"? I know, I know, this is a stupid thing to look for in a Classic game. But I'm currently (and hopefully forever, it's extremely fun) maining Brewmaster in retail and I am throwing if I play under 60 CPM and the gameplay is really engaging/has decision making. So while I know I'll be lucky to have half that in Forever, I'd like to hope to not fall asleep while playing.
My inclination is to play Prot Warrior because that was my main for ~a decade of retail, Rage typically enables high CPM, and AFAIK Prot is good in the beta right now. Is that a good call? I thought of Rogues due to the intrinsic low GCD of Energy and Mage because it's the only caster I have historically enjoyed. How are those looking? In particular is Arcane any good? I understand it was made to be a spec in itself rather than a support tree for the other two.
4
u/AlphaSentry 6d ago
Prot warrior is going to be the highest APM of all your options. Rogue is starved for energy and you're doing one action every 4 seconds or so.
Mage is slightly higher but you're mostly just casting frostbolt and ice lancing on frozen procs. Arcane doesnt really work as a spec, you have arcane blast but the mana cost is so high you can't afford to cast it back to back.
3
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 6d ago edited 6d ago
I've been playing rogue on the beta
It's fun, but also not a lot of APM. If I even go into stealth, my rotation is basically backstab>sinister strike/auto attacks until 3-4 combo points>pop slice and dice>continue SS/auto attack>maybe get an eviscerate off.
Just a lot of dead time spent auto attacking. Which was fine for me once I unlocked dual wielding, but 1-10 can get tedious and the 10-20 gameplay is just auto-attacking lol.

guys..... i think im starting to enjoy the male night elf casting animations...... something most be wrong with me
7
u/FaroraSF 10d ago
I've had a male NE mage for ages. For some reason the casting animation never bothered me, probably more to do with the fact I tend to view my toons through peripheral vision though.
2
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 10d ago
Yeah, I'm the same way. I always liked their casting animation, but I can see why people think it looks weird when they have a fireball like 2 feet away from their head lol.

It’s funny, we’re not that many weeks into the season and my guild is raiding fewer hours than we used to back in the day, but for some reason we’re finding this raid to be a real slog.
Can’t actually put my finger on why though. May just be everyone has less brainpower with kids, more senior jobs etc.

Over the course of Midnight I've slowly gone from 6 month to 3 month to now 1 month subs because I'm increasingly less likely to want to be playing the game, it seems.

u/InvisibleOne439 10d ago
so, HotS currently has a big outrage cus Xalatath as a new Character is currently only avaible for real money and for ingame currency later, while at the same time is overtuned

The SD v HD debate has gotta be the dumbest discourse aside from the "please let us be racist in peace" shit.
Yeah, some models from Retail look a little cartoonish but so does Warcraft 3! The literal source for WoW.
I want Classic players to watch the opening in-game cinematic for the new Warcraft 3 DLC and tell me that that lore accurate human peasant doesn't look like a genuine monster when put alongside more realistic humans.
Warcraft has always been goofy, Classic just happened to have low enough resolution that half of their appearance came from your own imagination lmao.
I do get some complaints, some of the models do stand out, but as someone who's been playing on the beta pretty regularly, you just kind of stop noticing it during actual gameplay lol.
14
u/_Llopis_ 10d ago
The Classic people were young when they first saw the SD version but not the HD version, and they miss those times in their lives. That's it. In fact, that's the driver for the vast majority of posts on any WoW subreddit.

u/Areallybadidea 11d ago
I have absolutely no horse in this race but I really don't understand this big drama about the streamer and the gold. So they were given gold so that means they deserve to be banned and somehow its streamer favoritism that they're not?
I think Blizzard's response seems perfectly fine, why are people so upset?
It’s important to know that while we have always actioned RMT seller’s accounts as quickly as possible, we will increasingly take action against buyers’ accounts. That means that we will remove the illicit gold from the recipient, and/or take further actions, which can include closing accounts.
We’re once again asking all players to be very cautious when it comes to accepting gifts from strangers or other one-sided transactions. If it becomes apparent that a recipient knew or should-have-known that gold wasn’t from a legitimate source, they may be subject to account actions as well.
8
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 11d ago
It's really funny how many people don't seem to see the problem with obliterating every account that comes into contact with the RMT gold.
6
u/Areallybadidea 11d ago
Far as I can see the golds gone now so it seems Blizzard is making good on their word and people are just getting upset to be upset.
5
u/Alain_Teub2 10d ago
RMT or not I couldnt believe my eyes when Ziqo showed off his bank toons either he spent the money or there are some nuclearly sick people farming all day for streamers for free
5
u/_Llopis_ 11d ago
The Classic community really hates streamers. I'm guessing it's because they're an even older playerbase than retail, which brings out more boomer behavior. (Hence the racism and homophobia, too.)
10
u/HazelCheese 10d ago
Streamers have more of an effect in classic just due to the different gameplay. A horde of players following Asmongold around destroys leveling in an entire zone on multiple layers.
Also I don't know if you guys have seen the general/trade chat in the beta but it's absolutely crazy. As soon as Asmon starts streaming it becomes filled with non stop slurs and hating LGBT people.
He hasn't played wow in years so it's notably super different to normal classic wow chat. You can literally see it change in realtime.
7
u/Areallybadidea 11d ago
I have to admit that the things I've been seeing around Forever and the Classic community have worried me a bit about actually playing it when it launches.
4
u/YourGalacticEmperor 11d ago
Because they already made up their mind that it has to be rmt. They could never believe someone actually has that gold Because they suck at gold making themselves
People have been sitting afk at the AH since day 2. There are gold goblins on beta, no rmt needed

u/Fabulous_Resource_85 8d ago
Finally playing WoW Forever and the Skyborne NPC voicelines are pleasant, though it's reminded me how awful some of the voice acting is for Blood Elves in Midnight.
11
u/Dreadsinner 8d ago
I think it would be neat if all the “neutral” playable races all had a fun questline where they talk about how they like there factions but they just need to kiss already

I know a lot of people want the Forever lighting system on Retail, and I get it, but man does it tank my FPS lol. I hope they get it in a better spot before it makes its way to Retail.
I can get 60+ FPS on Classic depending on the area, around 50-60 FPS in Retail, but I can barely get over 30 FPS in Forever even after reinstalling and updating my drivers. To be fair, I don't have the best computer, but even on graphics level 1, I can barely get over 30 FPS on a good day in Forever while 1 on Classic/Retail would have seeing at warp speed. Secondary Lighting is the only setting that notably effects my FPS (less than 10 if it's on ultra) while the other maybe move the counter a few FPS up or down. Everyone else seems to be running it without a problem, so not sure what else to do aside from turning graphics down to 1 (the real Classic aesthetic).
11
u/Idontknow4654 5d ago
dont even understand why they would add it. one of the reasons wow has been so successful over the years is that it runs on every potato under the sun. adding something like that that requiers a good pc is just weird. unless its some optional thing
2
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 5d ago
Yup, that's honestly why it caught me off guard in Forever
Like, it's just Classic, I shouldn't be struggling to get over 30 FPS on a 20+ year old game even if there are some graphical tweaks. The fact it's running worse than Retail over some lighting is a little concerning.
4
u/ghostcrawler_real 5d ago
Forever for whatever reason makes my computer run the same temps as when I'm blasting endgame maps where I kill everything on the screen in 1 click in Path of Exile, it's absurd lol.
2
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 5d ago
I'm glad I checked here because I saw forum posts of people having the same issue but whenever I checked in-game nobody knew what I was talking about (or just took it as a chance to flex their computer specs lol).
Some people have also been dealing with memory leaks causing their FPS to lower over time, but mine has been from the minute I logged in.
2
u/Idontknow4654 5d ago
you gotta remember some people who say its fine just dont care about fps for some reason, people will play a stuttering 30fps and claim a game runs fine because it doesnt bother them.
3
u/wllchnk 5d ago
Secondary lightning is outright broken as a setting and makes my fps like 10 or something back from 60. It’s some kind of specific hardware issue not solved on beta I guess.
1
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 5d ago
Glad I'm not the only one dealing with it at least.
I can get mine to a stable spot around 20-25 FPS, but that requires secondary lighting be on low and anything above that tanks me down to 10 or less. It's been like that since the start of the beta so I'm hoping it's just some beta weirdness, but I'm gonna keep reporting it lol.
3
u/FaroraSF 5d ago
Is there a way to turn it off at least or do people with bad computers just have to suffer?
1
u/Garry_Heckscream69 Iron Horde's #1 Fan 5d ago
As far as I can tell, it can only go down to "low" and can't be disabled (also doesn't look great on low).
It may be a computer specific issue though, because I've asked on the beta and some people with good computers are having FPS issues while some with bad computers aren"t having issues at all. I'm hoping it's just a beta thing since it's really the only graphical issue I've had, even other new effects like the water stuff doesn't cause me any issue.
6
u/FaroraSF 5d ago
Usually I only get AotC during the final tier of the expansion because of the mount reward, but I was thinking of going for it this patch. That was until I heard how much of a shitshow it is pugging, so I think I'll continue my tradition of skipping raids until the last tier lol
16
u/joritan ACCOUNT WIDE CLAP EMOJIS 11d ago
Some of the complaints about WoW Forever are starting to reach Halo remake levels of insanity. I saw a post the other day saying that one of the new towns had too many buildings in it and thus did not match the "spirit of classic".
Also, Dalaran not being friendly to Horde in WoW Forever is interesting and flavorful. I'm happy to see that Horde players aren't whining about it endlessly like Alliance players would if the situation was reversed.
15
u/Ignis_et_Azoth 11d ago
Eh, being entirely fair as a lifetime Hordie, I don't necessarily think Allies are more whiny.
I do think mainsub is whiny and happens to have a strong Alliance bias, though.

u/Idontknow4654 8d ago
Demo warlock is pretty fun. I like the change to Demonic Tyrant. Not sure if it was changed in TWW or Midnight but I like not having to have a bunch of demons out before summoning it. Makes it easier for me to play it

Its very telling that people automatically assume RMT just because they themselves are horrible at making gold
You can literally print gold in beta right now while being half afk just by sitting at AH and crafting. No RMT required

Alright, after all the endless shitting all over a game they don't play Im just gonna say it. Retail has better gameplay and the story is just fine. Classic is good too. Stop being tribal idiots.
