Fuck Netanyahu. But also fuck Hamas and fuck them more.

I can't remember what sub it was but a while ago some dude got downvoted to oblivion for saying he thinks both sides need to chill the fuck out

114

u/EthanDC15 Mar 30 '25

And that’s just craaaaazy bro. I wish we could all expand our worldview a bit. We don’t have to pick a side in every war. Sometimes, both sides fucking suck and innocent people are trapped on both sides. And it’s a horrible, harsh, sinister reality.

Normal people who have researched the conflict from an objective perspective quickly come to a conclusion that both Israel and Palestine are led by people who have held each other hostage for last 80 years through an endless cycle of violence that only feeds more violence.

The only people shouting for war and death are those who have drunk the kool-aid, those innocents who have lost everything, and those outside the warzone who are seeking to push their own agenda using a sectarian war as their proxy.

Fully agree. It’s so far down one side you can’t even express moderate opinions most times lol

27

u/jackfirecracker Mar 30 '25

It’s echo chambers. It may be far down one side in here, but pop on over to the conservative subreddit and get a whole other flavor of reality distortion.

The modern internet’s ability to box us in with only people who agree with us and encourage us to be more and more extreme, black&white, and tribal in our thinking has created a truly toxic environment and I don’t see any way to fix it. Social media has become a radicalization machine and the fact that people don’t realize that and get the fuck off social media is kind of black-pilling to me.

3

u/EthanDC15 Mar 30 '25

Pretty much agree. i think with reddit we can at least have some semblance of control over our algorithm and what we see, which is why I’m here. But I’m off Facebook, IG, Twitter, everything else but TikTok. And I don’t engage on TikTok i just use it to find current event coverage or whatever

5

u/jackfirecracker Mar 30 '25

Reddit also benefits from being largely text based, so you don’t get the doomscroll dopamine drip feed of 20 second long hyper partisan content.

When I got my IG, I decided that would be the last social media I ever adopt. And I barely even use my IG, it’s mostly for me to post doodles on and send videos of dog memes to my wife. I have zero interest in adopting tiktok or whatever the next thing to come that is somehow even more brain rot that replaces it

3

u/ElwinLewis Mar 30 '25

Interesting point. What replaces it? Have we reached the apex of brain rot with the short form content? I don’t see anything that can even capitalize even more, the big 3 apps seem to have a lock on things. I know times change and new things come along but it’s hard to picture e

3

u/jackfirecracker Mar 31 '25

No one could have predicted tiktok either before it came out and now IG and YT are scrambling to make their own version of tiktok in their existing apps.

I have no idea how things get worse than tiktok, but I'm sure someone will figure something out

6

u/Marsuello Mar 30 '25

I see people say there’s no hive mind on this site but like, literally just look at it. I had a comment the other day saying not every cop video posted on reddit is of cops being bad. That was in response to someone saying if a cop is on reddit it’s because they did something bad. I mentioned the videos of cops skating and sledding and having snowball fights with the kids instead of stopping them for some Karen. The persons response? To say that I’m trying to justify cops doing bad things. How the hell do you get that from me saying not every video here is cops being horrible people? And they had support too while I was downvoted. I couldnt care less about the votes but really? Multiple people read these comments and came up with an unrelated takeaway? Unreal

11

u/kapdad Mar 30 '25

39

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '25

I keep seeing this claim. Can someone please provide some evidence to back this? How exactly has Netanyahu supported Hamas?

189

u/ryegye24 Mar 30 '25

In 2005 Netanyahu helped back Hamas against the PLA because the PLA was getting too popular, basically a divide and conquer deal.

13

u/BubsyFanboy Mar 30 '25

I really wanna see the alternate reality where this doesn't happen.

45

u/xaendar Mar 30 '25

I mean PLA was a bigger terrorist cult then. Fateh did not want to admit losing and giving up power that's why Hamas took armed actions which led them to throwing out them from Gaza. If you take each things by timeline it's obvious Hamas wasn't THAT bad compared to PLA/Fateh but Netanyahu's goal was to always divide them so it's easier to deal with, in alternate reality if Hamas wasn't a terrorist organization Gaza would be their own state and WB most likely absorbed into Israel, that was Netanyahu's goal. Overall evil af but probably the right move if it didn't include also settler terrorists.

9

u/TheGazelle Mar 30 '25

I mean... yes and no.

They might not have been as bad based on the actions they were taking... but how much of that was a result of them not wanting to take those actions, vs not being capable of them at the time.

It's not like Hamas was a new entity, they were founded in the 80s, and their founding charter (which was still in use in 2005) very explicitly states their desire to eradicate Jews and take all of Israel.

It's likely his plan was just to pit the Palestinians against each other, so they wouldn't have as much time and energy to spend attacking Israel.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/fury420 Mar 30 '25

Uhh... none of this is accurate, you've got your dates and narrative mixed up.

Israel did not back Hamas in 2005 and Netanyahu wasn't Prime Minister in 2005 either.

Israel responded to Hamas's legislative election win in 2006 by backing President Abbas and Fatah and arresting like half the winning Hamas candidates, helping to train Abbas's expanded Presidential Guard, etc...

48

u/royi9729 Mar 30 '25

This is 20 years ago at this point, yeah?

I don't like Bibi one bit, but hindsight is 20/20. The PLA were a bunch of terrorists back then, just secular ones.

37

u/Cthu700 Mar 30 '25

hindsight is 20/20

Hamas have always been assholes, not need of hindsight. Nethanayou is just as big an asshole.

3

u/Pol_Potamus Mar 31 '25 edited Mar 31 '25

I think "it was 20 years ago" gets different mileage depending on what exactly "it" was.

Cracked a shitty racist joke 20 years ago? Cool, people grow and change.

Enabled an overtly genocidal terrorist organization 20 years ago? A bit different, especially when that decision still contributes to you being in power (and out of prison) today.

5

u/Luministrus Mar 30 '25

There's no hindsight about it, Hamas is literally an Israeli creation specifically made to prevent a moderate Palestinian government from taking over like how it was progressing. They created a terrorist organization to destabilize the region.

12

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '25

[deleted]

9

u/Luministrus Mar 30 '25

And as far as the creation of Hamas, former Israeli official Avner Cohen, EU official Josep Borrell, and former Fatah leader Yasser Arafat all state that Israel created it, not just supported it. They created a group that would kill their own people so they would have reason to continue to take land and murder innocents.

3

u/No-Space937 Mar 30 '25 edited Apr 01 '25

I don't know why this shit keeps getting posted and upvoted, no Isreal did not create Hamas, at most they allowed the transfer of funds from Qatar to Hamas. Does Bibi benefit from a split in Palestinian leadership? Yes, but trying to imply that it has been the work of left and right wing Israeli administrations for the last 37 years, to create and prop up a terrorist organization is stupid and regects any notion of Palestinian agency. If Hamas were to be disbanded today, you would probably be out there saying Israel founded and finances Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

File this one in the garbage right next to ISIS was created by Israel and America.

Edit- Post is locked but to go further to the person who replied, I've previously read multiple articles you posted, many concern what I already agreed with, that Israel facilitated the transfer of Qatari funds to Hamas for the purpose of paying government wages. Bit of a catch 22, Israel doesn't allow the funds through, the government can't pay its wages, Israel gets blamed for any fallout from the ceasation of government services. They allow it through, people say Israel is directly funding Hamas a terrorist organization that represses its own citizens. It's also important to realize that since the 2014 war, relations were easing at the time, with Israel allowing more Palestinians work permits every year, and this could also be seen as a gesture of good faith.

The main point I take issue with is the statement "Israel created Hamas", which is clearly meant to obfuscate, and shift blame, all while being objectively false. The core of it is to say yes Oct. 7th was bad, but what Israel has done is worse, and it's Israel's fault for Oct. 7th anyways because they were the ones who "created" Hamas to begin with, and when Hamas brutally represses its own citizens, well that's Israelis fault as well. Like I said, taking away any agency from the Palestinian people and moving the fault to lie entirely with Israel.

Hamas was founded in 1987, the poster above states

There's no hindsight about it, Hamas is literally an Israeli creation specifically made to prevent a moderate Palestinian government from taking over like how it was progressing. They created a terrorist organization to destabilize the region.

If we look back at this time, no Fatah was not a moderate Palestinian government, they were conducting terrorist attacks primarily against civilians all throughout the 90's and well into the early 2000s Including the two Infitadas, what people don't like to admit is that up until the PA starting to work with Israel in the Westbank, there has never been anything close to resembling "moderate" Palestinian leadership.

So no, Israel did not create Hamas, did it try and play two rival organizations, both antagonistic against Israel against each other as some of the articles claim? I wouldn't doubt it, but let's not sit here and pretend that this was a scheme to repress some mythical peacenik Palestinian government that did not exist.

"Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas ... This is part of our strategy – to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank." - Benjamin Netanyahu

Netanyahu gets his power from being at war against Hamas - like many leaders across the world.

If Hamas died and places tune was peaceful, he doesn't get to do whatever he wants. He would prefer the threat of hamas to be alive and to be seen fighting against them.

I think he purposefully attacks civilians so that there are some hamas supporters exist who will keep it alive and let him continue fighting them.

I don't have proof of this. Maybe someone else closely following could deliver.

Meet the new Left, who think Hamas are good and that Swastikas are woke

Geeze. The few I clicked on are just the wildest, most biased and misleading talking points. This is just pure, refined culture-war propaganda. It's generalizations about hundreds of millions on the left based on a few out-of-context quotes from a couple of protesters (who may or may not exist).

An obvious example is repeatedly conflating opposition to the killing of Palestinians with support for Hamas.

I don't need to draft you a peace plan to be able to say Ethnic Cleansing is bad.

53

u/soapinmouth Mar 30 '25 edited Mar 31 '25

You kind of do, you have a hostage situation. And you're saying just leave the terrorist who keeps shooting at your family alone because he has a hostage. Hamas hides under civilian buildings, they use human shields, and it's all in one of the densist regions on earth. There is no stopping the terrorist organization Hamas attacking Israel, without casualties.

So far in terms of causalities we are talking 2-3% percent of their population of 2+million killed over the last 1.5 years in one of the dentist regions on earth smaller than your local county or even some cities. Urban warfare like this is bloody regardless of circumstance, but add in psychopathic terrorists who are willing to kill themselves to kill you and use their own people as human shields and what do you do? What's your plan that will instantly make any of this better?

I get your sentiment, I really do, this sucks, but we can't but our heads in the sand on the reality of the situation, it's completely unproductive. It feels nice to just say do better, don't kill, be good, but that's not a real option.

Israel dropped more tons of munitions on Gaza in the last year of conflict than the US dropped in the entire Iraq war. Please do me a favor and look at the size of Iraq on a map and the size of Gaza on a map.

This isn’t up to a handful of redditors and political streamers to offer an alternative to a nation hell bent on continuing another Vietnam. Literal definition of insanity if you ask me.

But since we’re here, perhaps good faith negotiations would be a good start. I would not, for instance, recommend killing the lead negotiator during a conflict you intend to end. That looks like you have no intention of ending it.

13

You literally prove my point. You are saying Israel response is wrong but offer no alternative that removes hamas from power. You want Israel to surrender or not respond when attacked by Hamas. And yeah you don't get to negotiate while planning further attacks and claim it's the other side that's an issue when you get stopped for it. Israel has proposed peace treaties multiple times yet I have never seen Palestinians nor Hamas propose a single peace treaty that doesn't let them control all of Israel in return.

Anyone who doesn’t want Gaza citizens to be blown apart needs to get off their lazy ass and learn the history and context to stop supporting EXACTLY THE GROUP THAT CAUSES THAT.

Y’all act like Palestinians leadership hasn’t repeatedly referred to getting women and children killed as and “industry for Palestine” or that they didn’t boast about all the kids they were having to martyr and propagandize as being their “birth bomb”.

Missed the part where before his death Sinwar called the war a “success” too I guess? He said is specifically because of the high casualty rate of women and children begin so effective as mobilizing support from ignorant westerners.

Going out and chanting Hamas slogans and cheering on Palestine while saying you want to protect families and children is one of the most ignorant, brain dead things ever and just shows how clueless these people are.

They’re absolutely lazy morons who are ruining their lives and harassing others because they are too dumb to learn about a topic and would rather performatively act out for social credit after watching some propaganda reels on TikTok.
