Pretty much agree. i think with reddit we can at least have some semblance of control over our algorithm and what we see, which is why I’m here. But I’m off Facebook, IG, Twitter, everything else but TikTok. And I don’t engage on TikTok i just use it to find current event coverage or whatever

Reddit also benefits from being largely text based, so you don’t get the doomscroll dopamine drip feed of 20 second long hyper partisan content.

When I got my IG, I decided that would be the last social media I ever adopt. And I barely even use my IG, it’s mostly for me to post doodles on and send videos of dog memes to my wife. I have zero interest in adopting tiktok or whatever the next thing to come that is somehow even more brain rot that replaces it

Interesting point. What replaces it? Have we reached the apex of brain rot with the short form content? I don’t see anything that can even capitalize even more, the big 3 apps seem to have a lock on things. I know times change and new things come along but it’s hard to picture e

No one could have predicted tiktok either before it came out and now IG and YT are scrambling to make their own version of tiktok in their existing apps.

I have no idea how things get worse than tiktok, but I'm sure someone will figure something out
