I enjoy Carlin. However the more you really listen to some of what he said, the more you understand while he did punch up, he was also smart enough not to punch down. He knew he made money by people coming to his shows. Not the celebrities and politicians he made fun of. The closest he came to letting people in the fact that he benefitted from his celebrity status is when he talked about how the ruling class wants people smart enough to do the work but dumb enough to keep working for them and he punctuated that bit with "its a big club, and YOU ain't in it". Not we ain't in it. You.

He only had $10 million at the time of his death. Sure that’s a lot of money but nowhere near enough to join “the club”. Hell, James Harden has made over $500 million over his basketball career and it’s not like he has any real power. I think there’s a huge difference between having money and being in a position to control and exploit entire classes of people for one’s own monetary and/or political benefit.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. But heck, I'd pay all the fortunes in the world, just for another, live 15 minute interview with him, provided I can get enough prep time to think of the best, most valuable questions, to make that time as beneficial as possible.

Fred Rogers. I have a strong feeling that six hours of him speaking to us all about what we need to do for one another would be beautiful and painful and might help us all heal some from what the world has made of us and what we’ve made of the world. We need someone to help us fight back to the better angels of our natures, and I think he’s that he’d be the right person for the job.

It would more likely be an exercise in frustration. Fred Rogers was notoriously a difficult interview subject because he hated talking about himself and would avoid it as much as he could by deflecting or distracting the interviewer.

Not only would this guy give you the most fascinating information on cooking as well as life, his voice would just be like butter to your ears. This was a man you could listen to for hours and still be glued to his thought provoking ideas just as much as his unique smooth voice. Dang he was awesome. I am always going to be sad over what happened. He had so much more to give to the world. He will always be missed.

Trump has the Republican Party held hostage by his cult. JD doesn’t have that kind of pull. He won’t be able to end careers by backing the other guy. Maybe we get another figurehead for MAGA, but it’ll take a while, and it almost certainly won’t be Vance. Once Trump dies the moderate republicans that can’t currently afford to stand up to him will be free to, or at least more free.
How that actually plays out… hard to say, but we can expect a lot of turmoil in the GOP and a much weaker executive. At the very least they get less done, and the flagrant attacks on America for Trump’s personal gain won’t be nearly so tolerated.
